There's a much less expensive way to get something like the article mentions. I'm sure not quite as awesome, but it worked great for me.

1. Buy these.
   
2. Get some decent quality earbuds/IEMs
   
3. Remove stock ear cushions.
   
4. Jam earbuds/IEMs into the goo, then jam the goo in your ears.
   
5. Create hole for sound to pass through.
   
   Also, just watch this video. I did this for a pair of bluetooth buds that were constantly falling out. Now they're super secure and sound waaaaay better. So much fuller.

I'd strongly advise you to look into getting a pair of these. They're custom molded to your ears, making them comfortable enough to wear while sleeping, and they're more effective than most types of ear plugs.

I had to log in to respond to this. I have a similar issue with noise, I live in NYC and the subways can be unbearable sometimes. You'll still get the dampening they provide and it could make all the difference.

You can get tan colored ones that blend in with your skin color (provided you match the tan color that is). People don't seem to GAF what I look like when I wear normal buds that stick out. These ones can sit more flush with your ear and no one will notice.

I have to say, walking around when I need these has been an amazing help with living stable. It's basically body armor for your ears.

I'll vote "bad idea" just because you probably shouldn't be doing experimental chemistry inside your ear canals. Personally I wouldn't even use Sugru. There are other compounds specifically intended for creating ear plugs and these compounds appear to be safe for direct skin contact. You'll notice in the Sugru video they are pretty careful to insure the silicone sleeve stays between the skin and Sugru preventing actual Sugru-skin contact.

So far, I really like them although the last batch I made a bit too big. The helmet goes on just fine without disturbing them but taking it off is sometimes tricky, one falls out and I have to go searching. Clean your ear really well with baby wipes or rubbing alcohol and DON'T open your mouth or flex your jaw while they're forming. When you mix the stuff together try to estimate how much will actually fit inside your ear canal and make just enough so you can smooth it out flat inside your ear. Helmet shouldn't bother you any more on/off.

The Shure's are a great entry level pair. They are reliable and sound very decent. I actually use an older model of these for ipod headphones, as they sound better than anything else out there that I can find. The best feature IMO is the removable cable. I had a pair of really old entry level Shure IEMs that still sounded great, but the jacket on the cable riiiiight next to the earpiece corroded and it killed them - no fixing it, unfortunately.

I have a pair that I use - they don't sound quite as good as the Shure's do, but for the price differential, it's no surprise. I have been an audio engineer for 10+ years and can vouch that these things do a pretty damned good job for around $10. You can replace them 10 times for the price of any other "entry level" IEM (In-Ear Monitor).

To clarify are you referring to the sharp angular corners on the metal housing for the CA's?

If so, I feel your pain... The shell design albeit aesthetically pleasing are kind of an ergonomic clusterfuck (IMHO). From personal experience I strongly recommend using some sort of quick-set silicon/rubber to get a comfier fit! Sugru or Radians' Moldable Ear Plugs work great!

Here's a pic of my KZ ZS5 knockoffs with Sugru covering those harsh edges that make them uncomfortable for extended listening or under and minimumal pressure. Since the CA's have no diaphragm ports or venting on the shell you could get away with covering interior side's surface entirely to give the best form fit to your ears. I'd suggest you don't try to fit them with a material like Sugru directly on your ears unless it's made for that like the Radians' earplugs. (Also added tip, just put a generous amount of the moldable rubber in the general shape of your ears and shave down the extra after its set)

If you decide you'd rather not have the rubber attached to your Jupiter's for a more permanent (less hassle imo) addition, just go the moldable ear plugs route and tape over the iem's nozzles first. Then quickly slap the globs of silicon in your ears making sure they're making a nice, deep seal over your ear canal, and squish the CA's snugly into the mold. Make sure they're in nice and secure with the nozzle seated towards your ear drum. (Tip: Do this fast because the silicon becomes unsalvageable roughly 30 seconds to a minute after you've mixed it) With this option you won't need any ear tips for your CA's and they'll have excellent isolation. The downside being they do look like you're wearing some strange franken-hearing-aid homunculus of sorts. (You can get them in a tan color 😂)

I've had tinnitus as long as I can recall. Before I met my wife, I'd always sleep with music on to drown out the T. Well, she doesn't like sleeping with music because it gets her mind going. And she snores terribly loudly which usually prevents me from sleeping.

I picked up a pair of Custom molded earplugs and a set of SleepPhones. Earplugs alone drown out the wife, but makes the T super noticeable. Add the headphones, put on some relaxing classical or simple white noise, turn them up just enough to drown out the tinnitus and I'll pass out no problems.

I used these earbuds because they were low profile and simple. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore. You don't need to spend much on them. Adding the custom molding around the buds dramatically improves the sound quality.

The molding will block out pretty much all external noise. I never had to turn my volume up all the way, even on the highway with no windshield. And since they are custom molded to your ears they will fit perfect every time and never fall out like when you're using regular earbuds under you helmet.

To set them up, put the earbud in your ear and get it to where it seems comfy and sounds good. Follow the instructions on the putty and get it ready. When you have it mixed and ready to go start packing it in around the earbud. Make sure the earbud stays in place tucked into your ear hole. There's a part of the ear called the "concha", I believe. It's the part that is right above your ear hole. You want to make sure that your mold extends up and into that part. If you look at completed custom earbuds you should be able to see what I'm talking about. It almost looks like a little nub or finger that comes up and around the top. I believe that it the part that really secures it in place. That should be it.
