Prize suggestion: Gaming equipment? Razer for example, complete set with mouse, keyboard and headset :) Maybe throw in a fancy mouse pad as well to get closer to 500$ :D

Also, the game to play should be TF2 imo. For reasons already stated by others; It's free, easy to learn etc.

I don't know about either of those keyboards, but I personally use the flagship Razer Black Widow Ultimate. I'm sure everyone has heard of this keyboard, but to me, I wouldn't have any other keyboard. This link will show you a couple different versions, including one for Mac if you have a Mac. http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackWidow-Ultimate-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B003ZJ5B4I/ref=pd_cp_e_0

This keyboard is very responsive, and has a nice backlight. As well as a USB port on the side, as well as mic/speaker inputs, and even a braided cable. I love this keyboard. I've had it for about four months now.

u/Kram_Smada15 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The one with blue backlight is the 2012 model. I found it on Amazon for ~$130 used (with shipping included).

u/DanV2 · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

Okay, maybe some of Razer's other peripherals are overpriced, I don't know because I haven't looked into them before. But this post is about the keyboard specifically, which you elsewhere claimed costs 10x what it is worth.

So, here is a BlackWidow for ~$70. What would be the best alternative to that in terms of cost and quality.

u/oneshrimp · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

I just a got the black widow ultimate edition for $100 a couple months ago and its fully mechanical besides the 5 macro keys and its backlit in badass blue. I absolutely love it. The backlighting is customizable, it has a gaming mode which disables windows keys and well as other possible things, and you can record macros. If you want to more features just check amazon or the razer site, but the 2013 edition just came out and its backlit in green instead of blue. To be clear, the ultimate edition is backlit, while the standard editions including the 2013 are not backlit.

Get MX Blue's or Browns.

People will tell you blue's are bad for gaming, but they really aren't and they have by far the most satisfying mechanical chunky feel.

Das and Razer both make good mainstream MX Blue keyboards. I'd get a Leopold Tenkeyless with that budget, but for gaming specifically I'd recommend the Razer, it's got gaming geared features and the backlighting and it's right under your budget.

That one is MX Blue's btw.

u/Armestam · 2 pointsr/buildapc

It's alright. The Black-widow Ultimate is backlit. I have the non-backlit version. It's a good keyboard and you won't be disappointed. It's got MX Blue switches, which are the loudest ones. But if you don't mind that then you'll love this keyboard.

EDIT: It is one of the most expensive keyboards, which is why I just got the black-widow standard.

u/munch112000 · 2 pointsr/razer

Honestly the difference to me is where you are buying it from. I know a lot of people try to sell Razer knock offs any way they can. I also know that the blue one goes for a minimum of 200 dollars

u/SlipperyRoo · 2 pointsr/gamingsuggestions

SteelSeries 6Gv2 as previously mentioned.

Razer BlackWidow Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. They have different models so don't be turned off when the link defaults you to the Ultimate model ($130), they have a $70 Standard model.

[DAS Keyboard Silent] (http://www.daskeyboard.com) $130.

Your PC should be around $1500. Look at other people's builds, find one that looks good and copy the one you like This leaves you $500 for speakers, your monitor, keyboard and mouse. The Razer Deathadder and the Logitech G500 seem to be the most popular gaming mice. Personally, I have a Deathadder and really like it. For your speakers, pick whichever ones you like that have good reviews on newegg. You might want to get a good headset too. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD555s with the 595 mod. For your monitor, read this thread Personally, I have a Viewsonic VX2268WM and love it, since it can show up to 120fps (as opposed to most others that only show 60) and is 3D compatible. For your keyboard, look for a good mechanical keyboard if you have money left. A good budget mechanical keyboard is the Razer BlackWidow, Amazon has the Ultimate Edition on sale right now. The standard edition costs around $70, and is good too.

u/xelested · 1 pointr/gamingpc

Razer makes great products but their quality control is not that great. I've had multiple mice break after just a few months, and I hear their keyboards have had problems with the top of the keys wearing over time and after a while the backlight starts bleeding through around the letters.

Also, reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackWidow-Ultimate-Mechanical-Keyboard/product-reviews/B003ZJ5B4I/ref=sr_1_1_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Bad ones do exist.

u/Ritz527 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm surprised there's so much dislike for Corsair keyboards. I have a Das for work, a Rosewill for my home-server PC, and have used a Razer before but my Corsair is the one I love most.

u/Juhzuri · 1 pointr/mechmarket

I'll think about it. I have a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate That I may value at a low amount. Have to decide if I want two water cooled 290s in my case...

You may not even want that keyboard too.

I have the Razer Blackwidow with blue switches and blue LEDs I'd let ship sell for $60.

the logitech is a great mouse, but it is kinda odly shaped and gets a little uncomfortable after a little while, and as lieutenantClone said, it does drag a lot, personally i use a razer death adder. Also i have tried the 7g, and im not to big of a fan, the button press is a little off in my opinion, right now im using a razer arcosa, but i would recommend the Razer BlackWidow, and for surfaces, this is gonna sound bad, but Razer Vespula, just some suggestions, and im not a razer fan boy all thought it may seem, ive used many different gaming electronics, and ive had some good ones, but for the price i think razer is pretty good

u/Pufflekun · 1 pointr/buildapc

Amazon has the Ultimate for $102 including shipping. It's probably worth it for that price.

You can get the Razer BlackWidow mechanical keyboard from amazon for $80. Be sure to select standard edition, the page shows the ultimate at first.

"Razer’s BlackWidow and BlackWidow Ultimate are produced by iOne who also produces the XArmor line of mechanical keyboards."

TBH the Ducky 2 certanly isn't the 'holy grail' of mechanical keyboards, I'd say a Filco is if we're talking about cherry switches. The OEM does not relate to the switches, it relates to the build quality.

http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackWidow-Ultimate-Mechanical-Keyboard/product-reviews/B003ZJ5B4I/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0

This Filco is much higher quality than the Blackwidow and is also cheaper. In Australia the filco costs MUCH less then the blackwidow, so perhaps that, along with the terrible quality, is why I'd never recommend one to anyone.

u/Nanthelas · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Edition (the older version).
http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackWidow-Ultimate-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B003ZJ5B4I (don't worry it's not actually 500 dollars).
I'd have to test it first but it's in good condition other than a slight problem with the spacebar - one side doesn't press to well. I could clean it if you were interested in purchasing.
Also can post pics if you're interested.

u/acebo · 0 pointsr/starcraft

I dunno, this just doesn't look like it. Like Tasteless said, that cord could lock up a bicycle!

Doesn't look like the BlackWidow either.

CORRECTION: Yup, it is the 7G. Thanks!

I know this to be true. When I said "Prove it" I was referring to the questionable build quality of iOne. I have never heard this, though it very well may be true.

> http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackWidow-Ultimate-Mechanical-Keyboard/product-reviews/B003ZJ5B4I/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0

A few things:

  • I can just as easily link the 5-star reviews to give someone the exact opposite impression. A more important point is average review score. The BWU has a 4/5 over hundreds of reviews.

  • I should clarify I am talking about the BWU 2013 Elite, their latest. The average review score is 4/5 with over a hundred reviews.

I do apologize for the miscommunication, but the BWU 2013 has a few differences. The finish is completely matte, and the LED's are now green instead of blue. I cannot say for the build quality differences between these two, but I can say that this keyboard weighs a hefty amount (~5 pounds) and is definitely the most solid keyboard I have ever picked up. I have never personally used a Filco.

As for why that Filco is less expensive, one of the main reasons I see that would constitute a price variance is the Filco you linked is a TKL board. Another would be that the "New Prices" for the BWU you linked are not from Amazon, as they no longer stock it. The BWU 2013 is cheaper than the Filco you linked by $10 - and it even has more keys.

I guess there might not be that many people who have experienced the BWU 2013 yet, but it's been a fantastic keyboard to me. Thoughts?
