I just bought a cooler master elite 130 for transporting around. Had to get a mitx motherboard and new processor as well, but I think it will be worth it. Its nice to know that if I want to go to a friends house I can just put it in a duffle bag along with clothes and be fine for the weekend. Might also want to look into getting one of these for easy monitor transportation.

I guess the con's to a mitx build could possibly be limited airflow and lack of ports on the motherboard.

The choice is yours to make. You can actually make fairly small ITX desktop builds that are easy to tote around. Tiny ones like the Cooler Master Elite 110(10.3"x8.2"x11.1"). Or a case like the Corsair Graphite 380T even has a built-in handle. Though you still have to think about a screen and accessories but they make tote bags for those too. It still may be a bit much but there are choices.

Anywho's, you can check out Notebookcheck.net's review of BF1. That will give you a good idea of GPUs (both laptop and desktop) to think about.

edit

If you are interested in an ITX build, PCGamer's budget and mid-range builds are both ITX. They also have a "best of" guide to ITX cases.

$1000 Desktop = $2000 Laptop.

With roughly $1k USD you'll have plenty of budget for an awesome high-end gaming PC. With mini-ITX, you can even make a desktop that's fairly easy to carry around for Gaming Events, a desktop small enough to fit in a backpack and strap a monitor down to the same pack, or use another carrying option like a Roccat Tusko, or similar bags.

Once you have your money ready, head on over to /r/BuildAPCForMe, /r/CabalOfTheBuildsmiths, or /r/BuildAPC. The latter two subreddits expect you to show up with a build already planned out, and they can help you save money or get better parts. The first subreddit is great for anyone who doesn't know where to start picking hardware but still want to build their own system.

If you have any questions, just ask! PC is a great platform and is constantly growing, and I loved to help people get into my platform of choice!

There were battery packs posted on here back when the Vive first came out but I don't use them. I ask for two outlets but if not available I have a 75ft extension cord and a 30ft one. I'll run the 30ft from an outlet to a power strip that runs the computer and one light house, then the 75ft one from that power strip to the LH in the opposite corner. I've never had an issue with that.

I have two STANDS with two MOUNTS for the LH units to sit on. I used the mounts and power adapters in the box for my home setup and bought 2 x POWER ADAPTERS and 2 x POWER EXTENDERS to run the LH from on the road. These both live in the front pocket of my MONITOR BAG while I am home.

I also bought ONE, EACH, OF THESE to give me some wiggle room on bigger setups too.

I recently pick up one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-Widescreen-Designed-Flatscreen-Monitors/dp/B002RSQ732

Its buckled around the monitor with adjustable straps and it has worked really well for me. I like that the bottom has an open slot for the stand to come through so you can set down the monitor when you need to. The screen protector portion is really great too, cushioning the screen on its face but the other side is very hard and durable so I can put it face down on the car seat or up against something if needed.

I bought my brother one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/ThinkGeek-GearGrip-Pro-Large-Size/dp/B00021UJ62/

He said it worked great for him! I would get one for myself but I already bolted a metal pipe handle to the top of my tower for ease of carrying haha.

It all depends on how big of a monitor he wants. They have monitor bags.

These arent design for air travel, but car travel is doable.

If you want to simplify packing it all up the roccat tusko may help out a little bit since it holds the monitor and keyboard.

If anybody is wondering:

On the right is my PC being transported with this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00021UJ62/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And the Monitor is being transported with this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RSQ732/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use the shoulder strap on each making it much easier to transport then carrying them.

u/dmlang · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I vote keep the 3440x1440. I had one myself then bought a 2560x1080 ultrawide for my sim racing pc and truly regretted it. Once you have gotten used to the 3440x1440 I don't think you would enjoy going to the other resolution. Consider using something like this carrying device I will link and just don't clip the side straps, that's how I transported a monitor while I was in college. https://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-TUSKO-Across-board-Flatscreen/dp/B002RSQ732/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1526153846&sr=8-6&keywords=monitor+carrying

As far as monitor transport goes I would check out this. It is pricey right now but you can pick them up for around 40 bucks usually.

As for transporting the whole rig I would check out this.

Both of those are very well made and make transportation of expensive equipment a breeze.

As far as cases go I would just advise you to do lots and lots of research... most mini cases will allow you to squeeze in something equivalent to an h80i inside but then you have the tubing blocking airflow. I am fairly certain that this Noctua will fit inside something like a node 304... however I would recommend that you find a case that allows you to fit a fan on the top blowing down directly on the motherboard(I think the Silverstone SG-05 is the smallest case that will allow this). Just take a look at how much more efficiently the Silverstone SG-07(now the much more sleek looking SG-08) is at cooling down the hardware inside.

One last thing... ASUS is about to release this monster if you haven't seen it already.

Oh no, 300 dollars for the school laptop that you use back and forth and a build at your main place. A monitor back in forth would be to buy a suitcase or monitor carrier if they make those. I thought you needed a build alternative to a laptop. http://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-Widescreen-Designed-Flatscreen-Monitors/dp/B002RSQ732 here is a monitor carrier.

u/tekmonkey · 1 pointr/DIY

You can buy a hard case if you really want to protect it from damage, but that would be a massive, heavy box.

If you just want to make it easier to carry, you can find carrying straps like this:

u/cirreus · 1 pointr/gaming

Must have LCD monitor protection ! Can never trust the destination.

u/zekmon · 1 pointr/sffpc

Consider the Roccat Tusko + decent 24in monitor of your choice. Holds a keyboard and mouse too. Definitely recommend.

That's great, I forgot this detail, even less expansive, this will be great.
Is it a bad idea to insulate the pc from dust with nylon pantyhose?
Do you think it's possible to transport this pc with this https://www.amazon.it/Roccat-ROC-15-302-Borsa-Tusko-LCD/dp/B002RSQ732 ?

u/ryios · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you just want a portal desktop, you should build a Mini ITX. They make travel backpacks that you can use to transport a monitor and all periphreals.

http://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-Widescreen-Designed-Flatscreen-Monitors/dp/B002RSQ732

The Mini ITX case would fit easily in a normal backpack with all it's cables too.

u/LoneKrafayis · 1 pointr/sffpc

The Roccat Tusco bag lets you carry a normal monitor more easily.

No problem. I'm just glad they still make them. They used to have them for LCD screens but i'm not sure if you can find them for bigger LCD monitors. I rocked one when my 21" 4:3 was cool.

Amazon is amazing - https://www.amazon.com/ROCCAT-Widescreen-Designed-Flatscreen-Monitors/dp/B002RSQ732/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485559792&sr=8-1&keywords=monitor+carrying+case
