How about some Drew-ass Saitek X52 H.O.T.A.S.?

u/coderbenvr · 14 pointsr/oculus

Joystick and throttle with a pile of other controls within fingertip reach.

u/Wraithial · 12 pointsr/starcitizen

that isn't a HOTAS that's a Joystick/Flightstick. the Throttle in a HOTAS setup is a full size Throttle with buttons on it, thus in theory giving you enough keybinds that you keep your "Hands on Throttle and Stick"

Depends on if you want a simple joystick, brent1123 mentioned one.

Or if you want a HOTAS System, meaning a joystick plus a throttle control. That's going to cost a bit more, but it certainly feels nice. I only have experience with the Saitek X52 which is great, then there's a cheaper one with the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X people seem to like.

u/Invinciblex · 5 pointsr/arma

Saitek X52. No forcefeedback, but the springs are stiff enough for me. I love using it with arma. And cheap. Kind of. $100.

u/GaulKareth · 4 pointsr/Steam

For me: http://store.steampowered.com/app/314160/

Flight Simulator X is worth the 5 bucks as I've been enjoying a pirated copy for over a decade. It runs as well if not better than my old cracked copy, and if you ever wanted to get a flight sim, this is it. I learned how to actually fly ILS (Instruments) in a 747 on this game. Takeoff to landing from places like Keywest to Cuba, etc. Pair that with a Saitek x52 controller set for under $150 bucks if you're interested!

The Saitek X52 and X52 Pro are extremely popular from what I've seen. I use a regular X52. They don't have quite as many hats as the Warthog, but you can use the pinky switch as a shift button to double the functions on each hat.

Buying new, you can find a regular X52 for around $80, and a Pro for around $140. You can always get better prices if you're willing to scour the internet for used ones. I've heard about people getting a regular X52 for around 50 bucks, which is a great deal in my opinion.

This profile is what most people base theirs on, I think. The link has detailed instructions and a diagram showing what's mapped to what. The rotaries on the throttle are unmapped - I use one of them for FOV zoom, which has worked well so far. It's really useful for gun runs.

I've also heard people recommend the Saitek X45, but I have no experience with it or any other modern joysticks. I only got back into flight sims very recently.

u/UCB1984 · 4 pointsr/flightsim

You really need some kind of joystick, or at least a gamepad. Playing with your mouse and keyboard is quite difficult and makes it nearly impossible to click on switches and buttons while flying. If you can afford it, a TRACKIR system will increase your immersion immensely and it also makes flying a lot easier, in my opinion.

As far as addons, the ones that I like the best are fspassengers (which really gives you more of an incentive to actually complete flights), REX (better weather simulation and textures), UTX (landclass addon. It puts roads and lakes and coastlines etc in the proper areas), and GEX (Ground Environment Extreme, a retexture pack that is pretty affordable).

Track IR

FSPassengers

REX

UTX

GEX

Saitek X52 flightstick

Buying all of those wouldn't be cheap though. I would recommend starting with at least a flightstick and fspassengers. That will help you have a lot more fun without your controls getting in the way. You'll probably want to look into some addon planes too.

I ordered a Saitek X52 this afternoon. A little more pricey than the one you were looking at, but think of all the buttons!

u/loomynartyondrugs · 3 pointsr/EliteDangerous

In case you ever wanna switch to the dark side, I've posted a breakdown of the current hotas situation on the vive subreddit before, lemme see if I can find it.

Found it.

The cheap end would be the T-Flight Hotas X ($50).

On the cheaper mid range side, either the Saitek x52 ($140), or the Saitek x52 Pro ($180)

On the more pricey side of the mid range I can suggest the Saitek x55/x56 ($250)

Top of the Line would be the Thrustmaster Warthog ($400)

Since then thrustmaster also released the T.16000M ($130) which as far as I know was made in communication with Frontier so it should be a pretty good fit for Elite.

u/NdWar2000 · 3 pointsr/EliteDangerous

I'm thinking you might be better off with an Xbox pad? It's what I use at the moment. But two joysticks will be a cool way to go!

If you do go dual sticks though, that's ~£40 a pair. For £100 you can get a Saitek joystick and thruster combo (x52). A lot of people on here seem to have a good time with Saitek. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-Flight-Controller-System-Joystick/dp/B00030GSJY

u/42194821 · 3 pointsr/flightsim

T-16000M if you just need joystick with twist (rudder). It has amazing precision. Uses HAL sensors (probably not the same as the ones used in Warthog which is currently the best joystick available at around 400$).

T-Flight HOTAS X if you want a good but cheap HOTAS. Has twist (rudder).

Logitech Extreme 3D if you just want joystick with twist (rudder). Another cheap but amazing joystick.

All of the above are well under 100$ and decent. You could also get X-52 but like most said it's a gamble.

Both T-16000M and T-Flight HOTAS are excellent and pretty cheap so they would be my #1 recommendation. Here is a small comparsion between the two by somebody.

You could try finding and reading some reviews online before you make your decision.

u/Kirby86 · 3 pointsr/starcitizen

Look at the x52 or x52 pro.

u/pad117 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Yeah I've got it all sorted :)

And yeah I have a HOTAS setup atm, this one. It's not half bad for a starter one, just to get a feel for it and see if a joystick is for you (over a controller or m+k), but I'm planning on upgrading to something more rugged soon, like this, or if I can afford it, this :)

u/Spyknight · 2 pointsr/starcitizen

As far as flight sticks go I have been eyeing this one
http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B00030GSJY

Its a good thing that this game does not come out for a while so I have some time to save up for things like this :)

I have to say I wrote off Orgin ships for some reason or another but the 350As nice clear front window will proably make for amazing flight and dogfighting views!

u/MayIReiterate · 2 pointsr/Warthunder

I would suggest the Saitek X52 Joystick.

Most people I know like it, I don't own it myself but I plan to buy the Pro version of it.

u/Rispetto · 2 pointsr/gaming

I live in Canada and the following prices include shipping from the states (which can sometimes be $60 alone). The TV was purchased from a local Walmart. After the smoke cleared:

TrackIR: $250

Saitek X52: $170

32" Samsung TV: $370

I take pc accessories to a bit of an extreme though. The prices on some of these products have also changed drastically since I've purchased them.

Also the TV link isn't the exact same model, I think that ones a bit older.

Some other examples:

Razer Naga Molten: $100

Razer Tiamat 7.1: $220 +

PC gaming is not cheap. Over the past 2-3 years I've spent a solid (rough estimate) $2500. I tend to go a bit overboard, too.

Thing is.. with a shopping list like this it seems quite intimidating. In reality.. I can spend $100-$200 in a weekend going out drinking with my friends. What does that get you? A shitty sunday hangover. These things will last me years, if not decades. In the big picture these figures are chump change (I work a minimum wage job).

u/Pyrarrows · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

The Throttle/Joystick is a Saitek x52 It is really fun to use, especially with my Oculus.

u/ravenescu · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

A few days ago, David Braben did a interview for PC Gamer in which he most definitely recommended a Saitek® X52 - which can be bought from here madcatz for 150$ or cheaper of amazon, either used or new , for like 120$.
I will save up for something like that. Can't wait for tomorrow!

u/Ti1ted · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

Those prices are insaine! The cheapest I could find the x52 on amazon UK is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-Flight-Controller-System-Joystick/dp/B00030GSJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417424960&sr=8-1&keywords=x52+saitek

£130 = $203.20

Sure I know other things like cost of living and average wage come into play but the price difference is too much >.< I've been looking to buy an x52 for so long now but just can't find a reasonable price. Still using my extreme 3D pro, which isn't even a HOTAS >.< (unless you count hold the accelerator at the bottom of the stick a proper throttle.

Anyone know where I can find a reasonably priced one in the UK?

u/The_Wanderer_Xain · 2 pointsr/ThriftStoreHauls

Nice find! The lowest I can find them for is $117 but they're regularly $160+ new. Amazon Link Been hoping to come across something like these but I barely find children's games and sports titles at my thrifts.

u/donttalknojive · 2 pointsr/starcitizen

This is the one that I have, and it's great. You can probably find it for cheaper on ebay or craigslist or something.

Okay. I went and checked Amazon thinking maybe you are on to something and Fry's just was not saying discontinued. That maybe Saitek was going to stop making this model and make the x55 Pro or something, but Amazon is showing it in stock.

There's the Saitek X52, but that's only $20-$50 dollars cheaper than this one.

u/Pfunk39 · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

TrackIR 5 This includes a clip that attaches to a hat that will use reflectors that track your head.

TrackIR 5 w/ TrackClip Pro This one includes the Trackclip pro which unlike the hat clip attaches to a headset and uses active IR LEDs as opposed to reflected light, it is slightly more accurate than the hat clip

X55 Rhino $200

X52 Pro $130

T-Flight HOTAS-X $50

HOTAS Warthog REALLY Expensive ~$400, one of the best sticks on the market, but you would also need to buy a set of Rudder pedals as this stick does not twist.

u/ProblemPie · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

Here is a slightly less expensive x52. Canadian Amazon has it on sale for $108 USD. I still really don't have THAT kind of money to blow, either, but if you're looking that might be useful to you.

u/SteepHyperspace · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

X52. It's literally the joystick that's in the game.

Or the more expensive version, X52 Pro.

I haven't tried the Pro so I reccomend you research that one.

u/DerBarden · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

Awesome! I currently have the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick but I really want to have a HOTAS set up. I've been looking at the T Flight HOTAS, but I'm also considering saving up and going for either the Saitex X52 or the Saitex X55.

First thing first, create an acount with a referal code from randomizer(and add your own referal code to randomizer after you pledged.)

Like everyone else said, try to grab a discounted starter package tomorrow and if you can't, get an Aurora LN package instead.

You will have just enough money left to buy Saitek X52 HOTAS

You don't need to spend 250 pounds. Here's the X52 for $129.99USD.

u/I_TensE_I · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'm very excited for both Elite:Dangerous and Star Citizen however I'm waiting on putting my money in SC since it doesn't look like it's coming out for AT LEAST another 2 years. So I pre-ordered E:D since it will be available soon (less than a week) and got a Saitek X55 Rhino which is kinda pricey but looks (and actually is) very nice in terms of quality and functionality. Sure it's made out of plastic and for $200 that's apparently outrageous but it feels very solid and not like it's some cheap knock-off.

There's also the Saitek X52 as well as the X52 Pro which are a bit cheaper and are getting very good reviews as well. Also the Logitech 3D Pro that apparently served some people for AGES without breaking (but that's just the joystick)

u/person1234man · 1 pointr/starcitizen

I would prefer one with a throttle I found this one recently and am considering it
http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-X52-Flight-Control-System/dp/B00030GSJY

Could you link me to a throttle that would go well with that joy stick?

u/zalifer · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

AFAIK the ones available on the ED store are also at a discount from retail, though they may appear cheaper on some sites/stores.

X52 on ED store

€110/£88.99 as listed for me, but there are shipping charges of £7.50/€9.57 for the UK and £20/€25.51 for Europe.

Shipped costs:
UK : £96.49 ( €123.09 )
Europe: €135.51 ( £106.23)

Still works out cheaper than Amazon.co.uk

u/envoy1234 · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

I do not know about either of those but I would suggest a stick that and throttle that are separate like my x52. I say this because I like to have my moniter placed between the two with my arms spread out. Of the two I would get the Mad Catz.

u/SlackerZeitgeist · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Great discount on the Saitek X52 if you were looking for a HOTAS.

u/TheRealHortnon · 1 pointr/gaming

Picked up one of these. Got it brand new for half off. Learned to fly on one of these

I can't wait to test out the helicopter flying, that's what I was good at.

u/Issues420916 · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

I'm unsure where everyone is from but for me the regular X52 (That I love, Don't get me wrong) is the same price, 129.99 US + Shipped etc.

If TM is a more reputable company is seems like a no brainier. It has far more buttons and hopefully we get a build quality post closer to release.

u/ClassifyLP · 1 pointr/MathasGames

Well, apart from Elite Dangerous itself he uses Voice Attack for the voice commands.

The Joystick and Throttle are the Saitek X52 (no idea what setup he uses).

u/Color_blinded · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

So I just received my Vive and am eager to play this game with it now. But I must buy some joystick(s) first. So my questions is:

Is it better to have two joysticks, or a joystick and throttle?

Or even more specifically, which of these two options would be best? two of these joysticks, or one of these.

u/Cereaza · 1 pointr/oculus

The flight stick is a Hotas. Saitek X52 flight stick.
Surprisingly cheap.

The wheel, I can't id. Judging by the pedals, it doesn't look too expensive, or at least high end. Wheels w/ pedals can be pretty expensive, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was in the $150-250 range.

u/Infininja · 1 pointr/battlefield3

Lots of people recommend that. I haven't tried it myself. There's a pro version too that's made with more metal, less plastic, and I think has a higher strength spring in the joystick.

The regular version is cheaper on Amazon. The pro version would be cheaper on Newegg, but it's out of stock.

Hi,

I can't believe that no one responded to this post - I know that Father's day is well and truly over now but if you're still looking for a joystick for a birthday or Christmas etc then I will give you my advice.

Over the years, as a flight simulation enthusiast, I have tried many joysticks and throttles; many of these have been expensive and some of them not so. If you are on a budget then the best thing you can buy, in my honest opinion, is the Thrustmaster T-Flight joystick with separate throttle quadrant - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001DMUCAC it is cheap and good quality for a joystick that comes with it's own throttle (which despite the picture can be detached). It also what I am currently using and for the value I cannot fault it one bit.

However if you want to find the best possible joystick for him and for whatever reason money becomes no option in the future then I would recommend the Saitek X-52 pro - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00030GSJY which while more expensive is considered the definitive product on the street at the moment (Unless you're prepared to shell out nearly £400 on this bad boy - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00371R8P4 - I can always dream!

However, if he is not going to use this joystick for other games then perhaps he may prefer a flight yoke. The yoke is basically a generic model joystick of what you find in many aircraft today - mostly cessna's etc but Boeing 737s also make use of a yoke. This can be the most 'realistic' experience however they do come at a similar expense as the X-52. Do a quick search on Amazon for 'Flight Simulator Yoke' and you will see what I mean.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Franchise is now dead in the water. The last release was FSX and since then they have disbanded the team. FSX has it's share of problems such as was not built to work across several processing cores which means that a lot of people have trouble running the software smoothly. If your Father has a good 'gaming' rig then he can most likely run it with little issue although I would post the specs on a flight simulation forum and ask their opinion first. Failing that the next best thing would be Flight Simulator 2004 which a lot of people, who cannot run FSX, still use - by the time you make use of several addons a lot of people believe that FS2004 looks just as good as FSX.

Another new comer to keep your eye on is Prepar3d - In a nutshell Lockheed Martin bought FSX from Microsoft and are continuing the development which has included the ability to now make use of more than one processing core.

Anyway, I know it's most likely far too late but thought you deserved an answer and I hope I've helped in some way - If you have any more questions then please let me know and I will do my very best to answer them.

u/smegma_legs · 1 pointr/gifs

the enthusiast market will always be more expensive, but it will always be the cutting edge. I don't mind shelling out more to stand on the front of it all. All I have to do is have a job, which I have 2.

Honestly, I want to combine star citizen with a hydraulic force feedback chair attached to a good flight stick for the cockpit while i'm flying and the omni and a gun for boarding / ground combat. Rift will be on the whole time. I want to see how many toes I can stub blindly jumping from the chair to the omni.

u/Anthrawn · -2 pointsr/starcitizen

Yes you should get a joystick. Mice just don't do well with space sims like this, its not quite like freelancer that game play aspect. I would recommend a HOTAS (Hand on Throttle and Stick) flight stick, which can range anywhere between about $50, up to $500 depending on what you want to spend.

If you want a good stick that isn't too expensive, this is a good one
http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-X52-Flight-Control-System/dp/B00030GSJY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1368421471&sr=8-3&keywords=HOTAS

You can also wait, Chris has said that they are working with some companies to create peripherals for Star Citizen, we have no idea what the prices on those will be though.

As for upgrading your computer, you should be fine for now, you have a better card than what is required for the CryEngine 3, so you should be able to play the game. If anything if you keep that card for the Alpha and beta, that will help getting some very useful information to CIG in regards to how well certain hardware runs the game. So I would say wait till closer to the game launch (sometime late 2014) and maybe get a nice deal on a new graphics card for one of the holiday sales.
