It's not region free out of the box, whether for DVDs or Blu-rays. Modded versions that are region switchable for Blu-rays and region free for DVDs are readily available, though. Look at the Amazon page for the X800, scroll down to "Sponsored products related to this item" and you'll see third party sellers offering modded versions for about $100 more.

I was using a One S but didn’t like it very much. The Sony was a big improvement over it.

This player is the one i have, it just a simple 4k player and ive never had any problems with it in the 2 years ive had it.
You can think what you want but you would be very wrong.
