Good question, and it pains me a bit that I have a small box of unused tools that were purchased when I began. I'm sure I missed a few things, but here you go:

And I'm saying you don't need chisels at all. But that's crazy talk right?

That book I linked, and the making cases series, is the single best purchase I've ever made when it comes to leatherwork, bar none.

But you want specifics, right?

• Diamond awl haft - Barry King or other Osborne brand, I like the rounded back versions
  
• Diamand awl blade - Douglas used to make the best, but are harder to find, and Barry King is always out of stock. Osborne's are pretty good too, but will require a bit of sharpening.

• Overstitcher size 6 is pretty universal, other sizes have different spacing to determine spi.
  
• John James Harness Needles
  
• Barbours Linen Thread, 6 cord Right/left twist doesn't matter for hand sewing. One spool could last a dedicated hobbyist at least a decade.

• Contact Cement, pick up the Thinner too and add some whenever the glue starts to get a little thick.
  
• Craftmaster Pro Stitching horse is probably one of the better ones to hit the market recently.
