Here's a couple of other ideas for you to pursue.
You could get a bicycle and start bicycling everywhere. This would get you out more and you could also pursue limited social interactions. As time goes by you could expand your range of travel, join a bicycle club, hang out at the bike shops and meet others who have similar interests.
Another idea if you're near water is you could go sea kayaking. The local shops have a lot of supportive people that work there. I eventually got a membership and traveled several miles 3 or 4 times a week, even in midwinter storms.
One more thought if you're concerned about body image is to purchase a rowing machine. A rowing ergometer to be specific. You can set it up in your garage or a spare room and use it there. It's one of the best overall body workouts you can get and I'm sure after a month or two will really help your body image and your self image as well, which should give you more confidence in your interactions with others.
This is the type that I have. This way you don't have to worry about money for gym memberships that you might purchase and then never use because of anxiety about interacting with others. If at some point in the future you decide you would like to re-visit a gym you would look better going in and again have more self confidence.
