FWIW, I find that the Elder Scrolls games tend to have a pretty good attachment rate with adults. Currently on PS4, you could go one of two ways with that, either get Skyrim Remastered or Elder Scrolls Online.
Not sure how old your old man is, but if you're looking to really occupy his time, Elder Scrolls Online is fantastic value for the price. Not to mention, it'd give him some socialization with others and some sense of normalcy despite the disability. I know for a lot of people, games like this tend to be a good escape from some of the normal issues in life, and it'd "give him something to do" on a day-to-day basis and keep his mind occupied on tasks and objectives. It's fairly easy to play and will won't really break the bank either, as there is no subscription fee. Plus, thematically, the games are fairly adult, and tend to lean more on classical / traditional RPG themes.

You don't get a digital copy of the original game at the moment of your pre-order; the base game will come with the morrowind expansion when it's released.

You want this version not the upgrade. Upgrade is for someone who already owns the base game. There are four different bundles on PSN if you go via desktop and not PS4. You could try calling Sony and getting them to refund you so you can buy the right version. Don't just chargeback without going through them or they'll ban your account.
Editing to add: You can get base game on disc off Amazon for $13 right now. Though you might want to invest in gold edition for the DLC that's included.

$29.99 for Gold Edition on Amazon. That's the lowest price you'll find for a new copy. Used copies will most likely have the DLC code already redeemed, don't waste your money.
Sadly, I can't try it unless I buy it. How much does the sub costs? Also I was talking about this.
