I have a dash cam. When I lived in California it cleared me from three separate bogus traffic charges: speeding (the camera records GPS and therefore speed), erratic driving due to texting (the camera showed the cop was too far to see anything in my hand and the audio confirmed I wasn't speaking on the phone), and running a stop sign. Without the video I stood zero chance. Two of those three resulted from me passing a cop at a safe speed.

Edit: it's a Roadhawk HD but I think there's a new model out

I'm an auto claims adjuster, so let me reiterate the importance of protecting yourself by installing at least a forward facing dash cam. Believe it or not, the statements that people give regarding the sequence of events that led up to an accident that they were involved in can not always be truthful. I've seen several cases where video evidence proved that someone was lying, but a majority of the time it is just word vs. word. Video never lies and may save your ass from having to shell out a deductible, your rates going up after an accident, and from accusations of a BS injury suit. Having a dashcam is very cheap insurance to prevent all of that from happening to you.

I installed the Timetec Roadhawk HD in my car last May, and have not had any issues with it and am impressed with the daytime video quality. The night video is not that great though. I feel like there are dashcams out there now with similar if not better features for a lot less (I paid $200 for mine new). If the requested subreddit gets created, I have some good content that I've saved up that I can attribute!

Looks like a Roadhawk HD, I haven't seen that timestamp design in any other camera.

Paging /u/designgoddess who wanted to know too.

A friend of mine purchased a really cheap one a few years ago and the quality was so low you couldn't see anything that you needed to like faces and license plates at night. I've seen the Car Black Box posted a few times throughout Reddit and it seems to be a good unit. The video quality should be high enough that you could use it in addition to your go pro for auto crossing and the GPS speed might not be 100% accurate but it'd still be nice to look back and see how fast you were going at a certain section

I use the Timetec Road Hawk 1080P HD says 299 but after you add it to cart it drops to 199, or at least it did when i bought it. Its an amazing camera. 1080p, good night viewing, GPS tracking, G-force, MPH, time and date stamp. good stuff
edit: It came with an 8g card, but you can buy bigger or use your own, it also has a setting to just rewrite, so once it fills up it starts writing over the oldest clips first. so that way i know its always on and dont have to dump the memory every day.
