Or you can just get one of these for $30.

Why make it complicated with a phone plan?

I got a GPS tracker online on Amazon for $30 and I had it installed at a local stereo shop for $80 bucks. I use an H2O wireless sim car that costs $10 every 90 days. This option is a lot cheaper than LoJack and I've had it installed in both of my cars for over a year without any problems. It is controlled through text messages, and you can use it as a remote kill switch. I usually kill it every night, so even with the keys it won't start. It also comes with a small discrete panic button that sends an alert to anyone you select. Another cool feature is that it allows you to remotely listen in to a microphone that you connect to the tracker, included in the package. Overall I am highly satisfied with the quality, price and robust features of the system. It is neatly tucked in the steering column so that it is not visible.

the only bad thing on bikes is there is not really any good place to put it that can't be accessed with ease. on sportbikes the compartment under the passenger seat might work, but that is usually crammed full of stuff anyway

I setup this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KNR2YZ4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on my adventure bike and love it. You can get a prepaid sim card for $10 that'll last up to 3 months or 200 texts through https://www.amazon.com/H2O-Wireless-SIM-Card-Kit/dp/B004MF3IA8 (Not sure if this sim card works in Australia, but I'm sure you can find something similar). I love the alarm system, I used a high pitched siren for the alarm (had to get separately) and it's quite ear piercing. It has a bunch of different settings for quiet mode vs sirens and has a motion alarm as well. I wish it had more sensitivity settings through, as on high it goes off at the slightest touch (and sometimes the wind), and on medium I couldn't make it go off when shaking the bike back and forth, so I leave it on high. I haven't used the ignition cutoff feature, but it does come with a relay so you can remotely kill the ignition from a sms message. It does drain my battery after about 4-5 days though, so I leave a trickle charger on my bike. I think the cell and GPS antennae are supposed to have line of sight to the sky though, and I have mine zip tied to my grab bars, which are visible. They might work underneath plastics though, I haven't tried.
