【Ultra HD Real 4K Dual Channel Dash Cam】 Adopt top quality Sony 8MP IMX317 Sensor on front camera and Sony IMX 291 sensor on rear camera, this dual dash cam captures super clear view at Ultra HD 4K 3840 * 2160 @30fps + 1920 * 1080P @30fps at the same time. 4K resolution offer amazing video quality, four time higher than a regular Full HD recording. Help you read most details from street signs, license plate etc. Give you peace of mind when you're driving.【Upgraded Super Night Vision & WDR】Come with 8 Megapixel image sensor, provide a much clearer image than most dash cameras at night, combine with upgraded 7-Glass F1.8 aperture lens and WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) technology, maintain sharp image and automatically balance the lighting at over bright and over dark area. Help capture clear details that other cameras cannot read, like road signs, license plates.【Buffered Parking Mode】Buffered parking mode will be able to record events leading up to an impact / motion that has been detected. Car camera will save 15 seconds video before the event and 30 seconds after the event. This is an excellent feature and completes a true parking mode as there can be a lot of vital information in the lead-up to whatever triggered recording. To use parking mode, it is better to buy VIOFO HK3 hardwire cable separately.【Built-in Wi-Fi & GPS】 2.4GHz & 5GHz dual-band Wi-Fi could transmit in two different standard frequency ranges to avoid wireless interference. A more stable Wi-Fi signal and faster Wi-Fi speed bring blazing speed for file transfer. With GPS logger, dash camera can log the current speed and GPS location, also automatically correct the time by synchronizing with the satellite. Timestamp can be embedded in the video. Real-time speed would display on car camera screen in KM/H or MP/H.【Premium Functions】 Loop recording, emergency recording, motion detection, time lapse and so on. All your daily driving needs will be satisfied by this one dash cam.

I liked that full suited roundhouse kick from that dude. I was not expecting BOTH of them to be in suits.

Road ragers are one of the reasons I got a dashcam. Especially living in LA with all the angry, fucked up people here. I have a no name cam but TBH I should've gone with the A119 that was recommended by everyone on here. I actually just ordered the A129 Pro duo that just came out for wife's car. Looks like a really nice cam.

EDIT: Also, really recommend a high endurance SD card like this since dashcams put a lot of read/write cycles on sd cards.

u/Genos-Cyborg · 60 pointsr/IdiotsInCars

Watching that gave me a huge adrenaline shot too. Aren't you glad you have a dashcam though? If you had not braked in time, without any video insurance would likely determine that you're at fault. With video, that guy is now at least partially at fault for making an illegal turn (from a middle lane).

This is why I tell everyone to get a damn dashcam. IT's not hard. The /r/dashcams subreddit even as that sticky thread with recommendations that got updated and theres like a thousand different How-To videos on Youtube.

EDIT: FYI I recently decided to splurge on myself and upgrade to the new A129 Pro Duo

The viofo a129 duo pro. It's probably one of the best quality cams out there.

I am stoked to install this in my wife's car tonight. I decided to go for this one specifically since I wanted the GPS module with it. I previously have had the older generation A129 which was working beautifully and giving it to my friend, but I wanted to get this one cause of the 4k video. REALLY stoked about the video quality!

u/Bowflex_Freddy · 7 pointsr/ft86

Probably possible. Not sure if it would be worth it. A dash cam with motion detection and an additional battery might be enough to ease you worries. I had one installed and it makes me feel a little better.

Best how?

  • Best coverage of all areas?

The Tesla Sentry system: Front/Rear/Left Rear Mirror, Right Rear Mirror. - Tesla might have more cameras.

However, it is more for Tesla's Driver Assist feature (autopilot), and less for parking security or dash cam. - Tesla's Camera setup has all the cameras in the right places for parking mode. - However, the video quality of the cameras, is maximized for the Driver Assist functions, not capturing plates/faces for instance.

  • Trucker DVR 4-8 channel setup + reddit discussion link with weather proof side mirror cameras, or Tesla's Sentry mode, which is Front/Rear + 2x side mirrors. Example of Tesla's Sentry system + Reddit link

    ---

  • Best video quality?

  • A119 v3 ($110-120 USD) - This is one channel, and only (2K) but probably the best video quality possible in all environments (Day/Night/Shadow/Rain/Snow ect) (You could 2x A119 v3 + 2x hardwire kits (long) + 2x Micro SD card for (Front/Rear.)

  • A129 PRO Duo ($250 USD) - This is 2 Channel, (4K), but I would rate it below A119 v3 in video quality.

  • BlackVue DR900S 2CH (4K) ($430-591 USD) - Cloud feature - This is 2 Channel (4k), but I would rate it below A119 v3, and below A129 PRO Duo in video quality. This one has different options in Codecs (some save space and lower video quality, other codecs are for maximum video quality.) - This is one of the few "Cloud Feature" dash cams. Which is really cool, but I will cover it later.

  • Best Bells and Whistles?

  • BlackVue DR750S 2CH ($329-510 USD) - Cloud feature

  • BlackVue DR900S 2CH (4K) ($430-591 USD) - Cloud feature

So Cloud feature - Upload/Download/Streaming/Storage to the cloud. GPS Location in real time via the cloud. - It can Cellphone Text Message Notification(s) of G sensor activation(s) while in parking mode. Also Text Message notification(s) of Over speed while driving. - And lots of other features.

  • Requires (Separate purchase) Mobile WiFi Hotspot, with the attached Cellphone LTE Data plan/Network. There are limitations with in the Cellphone LTE Data plan/network (Coverage area/Roaming/Throttling/Data limits/ect). There are limitations with in the Cloud network itself (Upload/Download/Storage/Streaming limits.)

I am aware they are working on new versions of BlackVue DR750S/DR900S - That have a built in Mobile WiFi Hotspot which would only require a Cellphone LTE Sim card, with the attached Data plan/network.

I may have listed links in the bottom, which I did not list above, because I got tired in the middle of it.

Anyways, the best rated heat are the Street Guardian line up. Since I don't particularly like or dislike Street Guardian, I don't look at their line up, except when people ask about extreme heat conditions. They could have newer dash cams, I would just be unaware of them.

Anyways, SGGCX2PRO, and Street Guardian SG9663DC are pretty standard advice. For better advice, look them up, and their other products.

    ---

    > what can i do to mitigate the heat?

  • Buy a Prius with the solar panel that turns the fan vents on. Seriously, it cools the car with the solar panel on the roof, but that is the only thing that solar panel does.

  • Dash mat - Won't reduce heat, but it will protect your dashboard, and reduce reflections. - Pick a dark color.

  • Car Window shade - they sell them, not sure if they work.

  • Car windshield Sun Shade - Not sure if they work, but people have them.

  • Car window tint - No idea if this works, but people have them.

  • That car window vent fan thing - Doesn't work but people have them.

  • Cracking your windows - possibly works.

  • Car Window rain guards - They work at keeping out the rain when you crack your windows.

    ---

    > Are there any dash cams that are not pricey and are heat resistant?

Street Guardian either the SGGCX2 1CH, or SGGCX2Pro would be the most heat resistant, have the best video quality in extremely dark conditions.

    A119 v2, B1W, and SGGCX2Pro are common answers.

    A129 2CH, BlackSys/Thinkware/BlackVue models are as well.

    ---

    Edit: Added new dashcams.

Added: B2W, Yi Nightscape, A119 v3, BlackSys CH-300 2CH, + Updated Some prices but not all.

    ---

Removed BlackSys due to lack of OEM support in US/Canada/Mexico.

    BlackSys:

    BlackSys CH-200 2CH ($250-260 USD) - Operating Temperature -20 ~ 70 °C / -4 ~ 158° F
    BlackSys CH-300 2CH ($290 USD) -

IMHO there are better places to purchase from, with better customer support. BlackBoxMyCar.com - price match and Customer service. CaptureYourAction.com is also excellent to deal with. /u/estore009 on ebay, and Amazon is also excellent to deal with.

    ---

    I would also ask resellers:

/u/captureyouraction, /u/blackboxmycar, /u/estore009, /u/StreetGuardianUSA, and /u/ThinkwareDashcamNA their opinions specifically. - As they are retailers/manufacturers of said dash cams, and may have different perspectives.

The Viofo A129 Pro Duo w/ GPS is available right now for $191.95 w/ free shipping, sold by OCD Tronic but it's fulfilled by Amazon.

If you're interested in one I'd hurry, there's only 7 left at the moment.

u/HugePair · 3 pointsr/Dashcam

You can't seen license paltes with most cams. It's not a resolution issue. It's because of the reflection. Even $600 cams have trouble picking plates up. The trick is to read it aloud and have it record the audio.

The 4k cam if you want it is also on sale https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Buffered-G-Sensor-Detection-Recording/dp/B07RXQJ148

u/OhLawdHeChonks · 3 pointsr/Dashcam

I will also put a plug for the A129 Pro Duo. Also came with the little trim tool which was really helpful for running the cables to the rear cam. Has GPS tracking as well, though I keep the speed turned off the display. Still logs it in a separate file or metadata I believe.

Did not see it. How long did it last?

Also, I am going to make a pitch for having a dashcam. Especially living with all the dishonest, fucked up people. They are not even that expensive. My cam is this A119 after it was recommended on /r/dashcam, though now they have the V3. Also for front and rear cam the A129 Pro Duo just came out and it is in 4k video. WIll likely put that in my wifes car in a month or two.

u/Elon-Mesk · 1 pointr/dashcams

Go with the A129. Blackvues are over priced. The A129 Pro Duo is one of the favorites here on Reddit and it's 4k, has GPS, and wide angel of view. So while it's not quite a Tesla Sentry mode, it covers pretty much all you need.
