Always test it once downwind first. Each cannister has about 20 shots.
If you ever have to use it never pussy foot it, otherwise you'll just escalate the situation and potentially freeze. Unload the thing on the attacker so that you're 100 percent sure it'll incapacitate

There's that thing too. Those are good from close range.
It's good to get brightly colored ones so you can easily find it.
The pepper spray with the plastic shell is better because the grip makes it obvious which way it's pointing.
But again, always test them to make sure they aren't defective. There's always a chance that you have a dud that doesnt spray right.

I'm a small girl, 5'3" and 110 pounds. Never been threatened by another charger, but have definitely felt unsafe given amount of homeless and crazies around where I live. I carry a taser - 10 bucks on Amazon, fits in your pocket, has a flashlight and it will let out a warning CRACK that scares the shit out of people without having to actually fire it. Here's a link to the stun gun I carry, definitely keep one of these in your pocket or your door too just in case. It's better than pepper spray in that you won't harm yourself if you need to discharge it.
I agree with every saying to check the laws in your state. I personally live in the suburbs of a pretty big city in a low crime area. My office is also in a low crime area. I always carry my can of pepper spray and/or a charged taser when I'm walking to my car at night. In my state, you can't conceal-carry a taser, so I'll walk with keys in one hand and taser in the other. So far I've had zero incidents, but you can never be too safe!
