Sale just concluded. Rip...https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07CMH78R5/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
The 10TBs are like 79USD
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07CMH78R5/
They're also available from amazon.com.au for $129.84 AUD + Delivery

EDIT - Looks like they still ship from the US though
Might be a 10TB external HDD like this.
One of the first ones when I googled it:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CMH78R5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9GPMDbX96N01S
You can find them cheaper.

And the 10TB My Book was on sale on Amazon.com for as low as $145.99:

At this point its likely better to wait for 10TB sales, as 8TB drives seem stuck at a certain price-point. The price of the 10 TB drives moves closer and closer to that of current 8TB drives (until the price of the 8TB drives begins to drop further below $99)
Also the 10TB drives are reported to use less energy and are more silent (not sure, cant confirm yet).
Did you go with the 8 TB in this post, or the 10 TB for $79.99 USD? There is a limit of 3 on the 10 TB.
If you are in Australia, you can also get it from Amazon AU
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07CMH78R5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you want more than 3 drives, it appears you can order from the difrrent local Amazons.
Eg. I put 6 though by using Amazon US + Amazon AU
(I did cancel 3 after though, cos I can't justify getting 6 and it was just to get cheaper local pricing)
I just had mine delivered with the free prime shipping!

AFAIK there was no sign of a pricing mistake. They quickly sold out and went on back order and then stopped accepting orders but unlike the infamous $80 ($79.99) etc incident the orders shipped without issue. Also Amazon wasn't the only one to offer that price as B&H also did.
FYI , a similar product is $194 in amazon right now

It really depends on what you want to do now and potentially later. You can buy...
Since you are familiar with Ubuntu, which is based on Debian, you should look into Proxmox VE, which is a Debian server with custom tools and a web UI for creating and managing Linux containers (LXCs) and kernel-based virtual machines (KVMs) and storage management. LXCs are similar to Docker containers except they behave more like virtual machines. Pre-built LXC containers including tons of web development frameworks like LAMP, Node.js, Drupal, Django etc. are available from TurnKey Linux for downloading and installing in minutes. Great fun!

No, it is obvious
The lowest this item has ever been on Amazon is $196 … out of the blue going down to $80 is an obvious pricing error. The reaction in this thread also shows people knew it was a pricing error and could be used as evidence.

For anyone who needs 10TB for homework, there’s a great sale on a WD external for $146 here
https://www.amazon.com/10TB-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBBGB0100HBK-NESN/dp/B07CMH78R5/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=10tb+wd+mybook&qid=1558255062&s=electronics&sr=1-1-fkmr0
Because the offer did not exist on the AU site. The price was, and still is, $400. Even with shipping+10% GST, it only came out to $155; 61% off
EDIT: I've been shown that the offer did exist on the AU site, but it wasn't when I checked for whatever reason
You can sometimes find 10gb external drives for sale around $180- If you find the right brand, these drives can be removed from the external enclosure and put into your computer. (easy tutorials online)
I think this is the one I was thinking of: https://www.amazon.com/10TB-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBBGB0100HBK-NESN/dp/B07CMH78R5
If I'm not mistaken those are WD Red NASs in there.
I'm Canadian. Trick is you buy the drives when there are good deals. I don't see any right now, but $400 is a bit high for 10 TB even in Canada. This 10 TB drive is CAD$300 or $315 after taxes on the Canadian Amazon store. This 8 TB drive is only CAD$184 on Amazon Canada, meaning you could get 16 GB for $368+tax.
Is the NAS really worth it for the premium price in storage? Guess it matters how much you care about redundancy. I personally don't because I can just re-download stuff fairly quickly if anything happened (~1.5 days for 16 TB and 1 Gbps connection) and nothing in my hard drive is that sensitive. Of course you might have other circumstances that make the premium price worth it.
