He could get one of these for the rest of them for use on other computers

Seeing as how this is a thing, I don't see why they couldn't make something similar for the Book or just implement it. The Book is already so expensive though so any niche functionality is going to be cut to save costs.

I also imagine that the adapter didn't seel very well, so it wasn't worth it for Microsoft to develop one for the Book.

Another route would be to add this functionality to the Surface Dock, but just make it require a physical connection? (Clipboard to Dock to Keyboard).

the type cover doesn't have bluetooth connectivity.

You can buy a 3rd party bluetooth type cover clone keyboard but it won't work connected via the Surface Pro pins or you can buy a standalone bluetooth keyboard that will not fuction as a cover.

Microsoft used to make a bluetooth adaptor that can be connected to the type cover, but they discontinued it. If you can source one that might be an option.

This is where I gave up: http://edwardsh.in/keyboard%20cover/2015/02/23/probing-a-surface-touch-cover

That's too much for me. I was using the Designer keyboard, which is BT and awesome, except that the Fall Creators Update changed the way it sleeps so that instead of a multi-hour (I'm guessing) timeout, it went down to ~5-10 minutes, which means I frequently started typing and lost the first 4-5 characters. After a month of searching for a fix, I gave up and threw the $100 keyboard into the "worthless" pile to be recycled. If you don't mind a larger keyboard, and manually waking it every 5 minutes or so, it's a fabulous device - every bit as good as the SP keyboards.

There is a device - a BT connector - for the SP 3 keyboard. It's no longer made because it sucks. https://www.amazon.com/MICROSOFT-885370628494-Wireless-Adaptor-Cover/dp/B00FFIN8SS Not only does it suck on the SP3, for which it was made, but it doesn't even work on the SP4 typecover, afaict, though it was flagged as compatible in the store (when it was sold). I purchased on and, after having no luck, I called MS Surface support, and they said it didn't exist. After 10 minutes and dictating the MS URL, the CS rep admitted that it did exist. She then said they had one right there in the room, so she "went and tested it" and then came back on the phone (after 3 minutes) and said it didn't work with their SP4 so it was probably incompatible.

Yeah, the Bluetooth adapter is discontinued but you guys are acting like it's not available for purchase anymore. It's still in stock at plenty of places including Amazon.com

Get the type/touch cover wireless Bluetooth adapter if you don't want to lug a new keyboard around with you. The only downside is that you have to charge it after each days use.

Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FFIN8SS?pc_redir=1408079288&robot_redir=1

You'll probably be able to find it for cheaper if you were to look. I got mine for $39 CAD. And us Canadians get shafted on electronics compared to the States.
