I think this is caused when your controller doesn't support Xinput (not entirely sure what this means, but it's how windows reads controller inputs). You can find perfectly good Xinput controllers online. I've been using This one for ages.

If you can get used to the fact that the 'triggers' are actually buttons, then you'll be hard pressed to find any trouble with it, It suits me just fine. Maybe the USB cable could be longer.

I suppose you could use something like this but a proper ps4 controller would last you a lot longer and much more comfortable to hold
