Most motherboards since the 90's have supported Wake On Lan. You configure in your bios to 'listen' when the machine is powered off for a special network packet. When the computer sees that network packet it powers on the computer.

Someone has written an alexa skill for it.

There are a few of them actually!

  • "What you are seeing and reading is not what's happening." - Donald Trump, PoTUS

  • "Alternate facts" - Kellyanne Conway (not super clear what she actually does, technically an "aide" but she's on TV a lot)

There are probably a lot more, those are just off the top of my head. The Trump administration loves presenting "different versions of the truth" as if reality is subjective.

The V1 hub does not allow for changing colors via the Hue Skill and that is the only way the Echo can natively change hue bulb colors. Says so right in the skill description. Are you saying you can say "Alexa, set <bulb name> to <color>" with a V1 hub and it works?

Here is the Hue skill description for reference.

Hue Smart Home skill is not compatible with scenes from the Philips Hue app Gen 1.

Compatible with: Philips Hue Bridge V2 (square shape) to add support for Philips Hue scenes
and rooms. On, off, and dimming of lights is already supported on both Philips Hue Bridge V2 and V1 with Amazon manufactured Alexa products (e.g. Echo, Dot, FireTV).

Just the reg. DTV skill.
The ratings are pretty lousy (which I don't really understand because my experience with it has been pretty flawless).

u/FkChildSupport · 2 pointsr/wyzecam

You're not going to be able to do that with Wyze+IFTTT+Alexa alone.. you would need some form of 3rd party skill and/or software..

Home Assistant (+ NodeRed) has an Alexa TTS service which will make Alexa say whatever you want, based on an event detected by a device linked to Home Assistant, or MQTT or IFTTT or whatever..

Or there is Notify Me an Alexa Skill which is supported by IFTTT Webhook. Which you set up a Motion Trigger on IFTTT to send (via Webhook) "XxxxX" to Notify Me which would then have Alexa speak (not bark) whatever you wanted to say..

What you are wanting to do is not limited by Wyze or IFTTT, its a limitation of Alexa.. she's not capable of receiving direct input via IFTTT without a 3rd party skill.. You would need a Skill that 1) is compatible with Alexa & IFTTT. 2) That is able to play an mp3 (or whatever) through Alexa when an IFTTT.

Look for Webhook based Skills (which will increase the skills available to do what you want)

u/FoferJ · 2 pointsr/Hue

Works fine for me. Do you have a v2 hub? Did you install the new Skill? http://alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html#skills/dp/B01LWAGUG7

IFTTT doesn't work nearly as well, in my experience.

u/MayorOSeedy · 2 pointsr/amazonecho

There a a Secondary Hub skill you can use for an additional hub.

u/friendlyhermit · 2 pointsr/amazonecho

If you scroll down on the Sonos skill page to the recent comments, there seem to be a lot of complaints about the Sonos skill not working with Alexa. That's unfortunate.

u/matdwyer · 2 pointsr/Hue

I saw this on the description from adding the skill on alexa:

"This skill specifically adds support for Philips Hue scenes and rooms. It is only compatible with Philips Hue Bridge V2 (Square shape) and NOT compatible with Philips Hue bridge V1 (circular shape) in order to ensure reliability for this new functionality and to provide the best customer experience."

http://alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html#skills/dp/B01LWAGUG7 (don't know if that will be an actual link or if its a private link, but I found that page at alexa main -> smart home -> hue in the description.

I know you can do ifttt still, I didn't keep going to see if the 1.0 worked I just assumed it didn't, re-reading it it may be referring to the specific skill of the scenes but I'm not sure.

Hi Oscar, for some reason when I enable this skill it doesn't appear in my skill list. Is it perhaps regionalized to North America? I live in New Zealand and all my enabled skills appear on the australian alexa https://alexa.amazon.com.au

The WoL skill also doesn't appear when I search for it on https://alexa.amazon.com.au/spa/index.htm

Any ideas? Thanks

One theory that I have is that the supported language prevents the skill being added to australia-based alexa services. For example, these all work

but https://www.amazon.com.au/Oscar-Penelo-Wake-Lan-WoL/dp/B07PGKK416

does not exist.

Perhaps this is the reason that the Skill cannot be enabled?

u/flashlightgiggles · 1 pointr/homeautomation

TLDR: you're good to go.

The C21 is not the default control for the Celano v2. It is an optional control. You/previous owner/installer must have changed the "standard" handheld remote to the C21 at some point in time.

The Celano v2 includes a "normal", easily replaceable receiver in the canopy. You COULD replace it, but Fansync fans should be compatible with at least Amazon Echo and Google Home.

I've never used Fanimation's fansync. Try enabling the Fanimation Ceiling Fan skill on your Alexa device.

I don't have any bulbs that change colors, so I have not tried it, but it does show that it has that capability here. Of course, you need to have a bulb that is capable of changing color for it to work (not all are).

u/bvmr · 1 pointr/amazonecho

Just enable this skill https://www.amazon.com/SkanShan-List-Assistant/dp/B076J751W3

Search in Amazon.com for "SkanShan" and enable List Assistant skill.

Now, just say:
Alexa, ask list assistant to email my shopping list.
And get your shopping/todo list to your email.

u/chubbyslum · 1 pointr/alexa

Well Philip Hue works the same for some of their devices, as long as you have the Hue Hub.. You just press the button the Hub, and Alexa will discover it on the network. But your control is limited. (The Echo Plus is only required if want to eliminate the Hue Hub)

>Basic lighting functionality (on / off / dimming) is available without the Smarthome skill and is compatible with Philips Hue V1 (round) and V2 (square) bridges. Philip Hue Skill

I use these also (again because no skill is required and I don't need to turn my lights pink, purple, blue.. on/off is good for me)

u/Bluechip9 · 1 pointr/ecobee

Link to the skill.

Would be useful to put that in the post, /u/Mikey-A-.

Two different harmony apps? Not sure if this link will work but all I see if the one Harmony skill: http://alexa.amazon.co.uk/spa/index.html#skills/dp/B01N4DMQ5P/?ref=skill_dsk_skb_sr_0

u/keitheii · 1 pointr/Hue

It isn't working for me on my 2.0 bridge, but the info for the new feature is below.

https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Hue/dp/B01LWAGUG7

Color Control:

  • It offers possibilities for playing with colors on color lights. Say, "Alexa, set the bedroom light to orange"
  • You can control shades of white on your Hue white ambiance lights, from cool energising daylight to relaxing warm white light. Say:
  • "Alexa, set the kitchen light to cool white"
  • "Alexa, make the living room warmer"

I have followed instructions, and this is offical Alexa skill - https://www.amazon.com/Nvidia-Corp-NVIDIA-SHIELD-TV/dp/B07JY9S81F , I have discovered and paired my Shield with Amazon Echo , but not working. Device is there, but any command with "Ask shield, or open shield" it does not work.

u/write2prateeksharma · 1 pointr/Aqara

I am using this skill https://www.amazon.com/Lumi-United-Technology-Co-Ltd/dp/B07FNFMJ64

Given my bulbs and sensors are working with Alexa, I expected Smart plugs to work as well.

u/Kv603 · 1 pointr/homeautomation

If your panel is compatible, can add EyezOn EnvisaLink and keep all your existing keypads functional, while adding app and Alexa control.

If you only have two you are in luck.

Logitech has two harmony skills. If you need a third hub you’re going to need a separate account.

Or use this skill to email to any email id which is registered with amazon.

According to the skill page:
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Visual-Products-Inc-Android/dp/B0731LJ4L9

You can directly tell it to set the volume to 45. "Alexa, set volume to 45 on <TV name>."

u/randyth · 1 pointr/amazonecho

Check out the Notfiy Me skill, which let's you trigger Alexa notifications with a simple web request, something most home automation systems can do. If your HA system doesn't support web requests, you can use IFTTT as the middleman between your HA system and your Echo. See www.notifymyecho.com for more info.

u/ichasecorals · 1 pointr/Aqara

I use this one

Aqara skill

u/j28791 · 1 pointr/ecobee

If you have ecobee4 you can simply ask Alexa:

"Alexa, ask ecobee to turn fan on" (Remember to have her turn the fan off too! )

"Alexa, ask ecobee to turn fan off"

If Alexa doesn't follow those commands make sure your ecobee is named "ecobee". You can check and change this in the Alexa app on your phone.

https://www.amazon.com/ecobee-Inc-plus/dp/B071672K2R

There is a list of commands at that link. You must have the ecobee plus skill enabled on alexa to do this. If you don't simply ask Alexa:

"Alexa, enable ecobee plus skill"

Alternatively, you can turn on the fan from the thermostat itself. It's nested under settings and "test equipment" This is why I suggested to just ask Alexa.

u/LEGENDARYstefan · 1 pointr/amazonecho
u/mbne84 · 1 pointr/xboxinsiders

Thanks for the response. I tried again and im still getting the same unable to link to xbox message. Just to make sure im trying the right skill, is the address below the right one?

u/atvking · 1 pointr/homeautomation

I don't have any of the assistants with a screen, no. They would be nice to have but I don't think I could justify the price for a screen I would only use for recipes.

Seeing as how the two combos are very similarly priced, I would get this combo instead and test out the Echo Dot if you haven't had any experience with either platform yet.

Then you can enable skills on the Echo Dot through the Alexa app to use your lights as an alarm (see Hue skill and IFTTT). You could even use the Echo Dot itself as an alarm in unison with the lights.

Watch some youtube videos on useful Alexa/Echo skills. Worst case scenario you don't like the Echo and you could sell it or give it away.

*Edit - There's also a very good chance that your thermostat company will have an Alexa skill too (nest skill, ecobee skill, honeywell skill, etc) which means you could control the temperature of your house with your voice as well

u/jonarogers · 1 pointr/simplisafe

It is arming and general status, so it will respond if you system is in Home or Away. It will NOT disarm via voice, for security reasons. Do not want some burgler coming by your window and shouting "alexa, disarm simplisafe!" :)

u/jotunck · 1 pointr/homeautomation

I actually found 2 Alexa Skills, Lumi Smart Home and Aqara Home.

It looks like Lumi Smart Home supports a lot more than just the hub and smart plugs, but I'm not sure why there are two skills or why Lumi Smart Home doesn't list the Aqara Hub as a supported device. And technically if it supports the hub it should support all the child devices that connect to the hub (in-wall switches, etc)?

u/ButchDeal · 1 pointr/solar

There is already an Amazon Alexa skill for PVoutput
and you can link most solar monitoring (including SolarEdge) to PVoutput.org

Here’s a link.
