A question. In Germany, you won't find a kid that can't swim without floaties. They wear them normally until first or second grade when the kid has mandatory swimming-lessons in school.

Considering such systems, kids that can't swim don't have to relay on clinging with their life and their own strength on something. Aren't they used widly in the US as well?

Sounds like my fan bearing did when it was failing on my 2000 lx, almost had an exhaust-y sound from the drivers seat. The bearing is built into the fan bracket. Not too expensive of a part($100ish on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031GCUEY), but a pain to remove. For the fan bracket to clear when pulling it out, you have to rotate the a/c compressor out of the way just a bit which requires loosening a bolt you can’t see under the manifold. Additionally, the nuts holding the fan onto the pulley/bracket are pretty soft. I rounded one off and replaced them with stainless when I put it back together. Here’s a pretty good video on the timing belt maintenance that shows the fan bracket removal: https://youtube.com/watch?v=4dO8KW1-NQs&t=11m55s

Edit: bolts to nuts

Honestly, it should be running two belts. The 302 vbelt setups on with power steering requires a double belt crankshaft pulley and double belt water pump pulley. Yours is only a single (meant for manual steering). I'm surprised, even with the belt tensioned that your water pump can move.

Your saginaw style steering pump should have a square hole on the bracket to tension with a socket driver with no adaptor, and there should be a bolt on your alternator bracket to tension with.

I can take a picture of mine in a day or two. I have a 69 that I converted to power steering, but I replaced all pulleys, but textualized here goes:

One belt is for water pump, crankshaft and alternator. This should be on the notch closest to the block on CS pulley.

The other belt is for PS, waterpump, and CS pulley. It will go on notch closest to radiator.

Edit: words and links to pulleys.

Edit 2: I guarantee your power steering pump pulley protrudes further than other pulleys which is bad for the belt and possibly the PS pump.
