Definitely yes!! I had a few older and younger pharmacists recommend them. Even the younger pharmacists were starting to get varicose veins and it also helps with fatigue and soreness.

Sometimes I will wear a knee brace and another pharmacist recommended a posture corrector as well.

I purchased my compression socks on Amazon from sockwell. They are more comfortable similar to regular socks. The sheer socks you can purchase are not as comfortable, but do provide more compression. Try both types and see what you prefer.

I like mine! I tried one that I don't recall the brand of, then gave it to my SO and got this one which I like much better, it sits further out on my shoulders so it pulls them back better. I wear it for a few hours a day at my desk. It's still definitely possible to slouch while wearing one, so you do have to do a little work, but having it on helps me be more conscious of my sitting position anyway.

The two most important things for those of us stuck at desks all the time are 1) taking regular breaks to move and 2) setting up your space as ergonomically as possible.

Taking breaks is the easiest one. For me, I am constantly drinking water (a couple liters a day), so that means every hour or so I need to get up to either use the bathroom or refill my water bottle. If I don't actually get up and move around, I'll at least check myself once an hour. Sit up straighter, move the neck about a bit and get back to work.

Proper workspace set up is the most helpful in the long run. Monitor placement: you want your monitor set up so the center of it is at eye level - if it's too low (which is what usually happens), put some old books or something below it to raise it up. You also want it at a good distance from you. The trick I was taught by a physical therapist is to sit in your chair and straighten your arm - the monitor should be at your fingertips. My office chair is not ideal, so I invested in a low back support cushion. It makes sure that I'm not flattening out my back too much (usually by pulling my hips forward and slouching). I'm also short so I had to get a cushion to put under my feet since they don't rest flat on the floor - however I doubt this applies to most people.

Good luck, I find that being conscious of your posture and your setup is the biggest part, and you're well on your way to that.

I’ve had a few different belts/bands and found this one from Amazon helpful early on (I’m 33 weeks with twins and this does nothing for me at this point and I’m now using a Boba wrap). The belt is super annoying to try to take off and put back on when you have to pee — especially in a small bathroom stall — but it helped me walk with less pain. Unfortunately if you have SPD this pain is likely not going to get better until you give birth. Try to always move with both legs together like when you get into a car don’t stand on one leg and put the other in, sit in the seat first and swing both legs in with your knees together. Physical therapy and heating pads are good also.

I don't know if you've ever tried a brace, but I use this one a few times a week, especially if I'll be up walking around. For when it feels like I want to cut my arm off, I use the wedge pillow part of this one to give supportive rest. I tried the sling part, but it didn't do much for me (or maybe I never got it adjusted right?). The pillow part might be available seperately.

This one is better than others that look like it because the front is like the non-rough velcro side instead of fabric. Either one is good, but this is lasting longer.

I've tried two others, they are one piece and wrap over themselves in the back. I was not impressed. Maybe because they were too small or maybe because of where my pain is. I have also used baby wraps. You can use either a stretchy one (like a Moby) or a woven one (like a Tula) and there are videos on YouTube. This is good if you plan to baby wear after the baby arrives, just be careful not to wrap too tight on the hips, trust me.

I have SPD and not really back pain, so my pain relief needs could be different. But that's been my experience this pregnancy.

I have two, but can only really give my personal experience with them.

The first is one of those elastic tubes that you can also use to hold up your pants in the beginning. It really doesn't provide much in the way of support, but doesn't show lumps and bumps under clothes. I tend to wear it for short days out or if I know I'll mostly be sitting.

The second is this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009M2U0LQ/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The band over the top didn't seem to do anything for me, as the belt tended to slip up if anything, so I stopped using that part (it attaches with Velcro, so I just took it off). The support is really good but it does appear lumpy/ bulky under clothes, though it helped my back enough I didn't care and wore it pretty much daily anyway. I have recently noticed that the band has developed some creases, which not only dig in, but also seem to make the weight not distribute as evenly. So, I haven't been wearing it very often. I don't think it was particularly well made and definitely won't be able to use it for future pregnancies.

I had mine on Friday. I'll tell you about the good and the bad, because you should be prepared for what is going to happen. No sugar coating it because you need to know what you're in for, but also that you start to feel better pretty quickly. I am on day two after my surgery, and I already feel exponentially better than I did yesterday.

I am not sure what you're having done, but I had a full hysterectomy. Going under was the easiest thing in the world. They gave me versed ahead of time so it calmed me down. Then they put the anesthesia into my IV and I was out just like that. I ended up being under for 8 hours, because the endo was very severe, and my doctor was determined to do it lapro so she wouldn't haven to open me up. I didn't realize anything at all was going on the whole time.

First waking up was rough. I had pain all over, including my vagina and anus, and of course my stomach. They immediately gave me some pain meds, and the pain began to subside. I was in the post-op room for about an hour, then they moved me to a room. The pain meds wore off, and at first the pain is intense. They want you to urinate and to walk a bit before they send you home. After the first time I tried to urinate, when I tried to lie down, the pain became so severe that I started to hyperventilate, and basically had a mild panic attack, but my sister was there are was able to talk me down. I really just had to take longer and slower breaths, but in the midst of the pain it was difficult to think to do that. You are going to have phlegm built up in your lungs. It is important that you try to cough that up so you don't get pneumonia.

I went home that night. Because of the IV fluids and all the water I had post-op (you get very very thirsty) I had to urinate several times that night. I could not get up on my own. Thankfully my husband is wonderful and was willing to get up with me and help me each time. Yesterday, the pain was intense. I was exhausted from barely sleeping all night. The pain pills barely touched the pain, and my sister and husband rightly would not allow me to just suck them down like candy. It was terrible. I won't lie. Being helpless was incredibly frustrating and difficult.

The pain meds make you constipated. I still haven't pooped. Get some over the counter stool softener and take one each day. Purchase some broccoli and salad greens. Stuff with fiber. Be prepared to get full very quickly. You'll be better off eating four or five small meals because even today I could only take a few bites and then I was full. Overfilling your stomach will cause pain.

Things to have to make your first day easier. Pillows. Lots and lots of pillows. My husband went and got me a body pillow and a couple extra regular sized pillows, and I am able to use those to prop myself into a comfortable sleeping position. You will NOT want to sleep on your back if you can help it because your tail bone will be unhappy. Second, an abdomen binder. Something like this. It looks crazy, but it is so helpful to help you when you're lying down and walking around. Lastly, a goodfriend/SO/Family member. Someone who you'd be comfortable seeing you naked. They will need to help you go to the bathroom. They will need to help you change your clothes. They will essentially have to do everything for you for a day. You WILL need the support.

Everything I've said here sounds awful, and it was. But it's day two for me, and I am already feeling so much better. The pain is still there, but it is not nearly so overwhelming. I can get up and move around without help. I can go to the bathroom without help. That first day feels like it is never going to get better, but it will. Just hang in there, and you will be surprised at how quickly you start to feel better. Just don't push yourself too hard.

Before I get started, I want to let you know that I was told not to work during my pregnancy. Luckily, we can afford for me to be a stay at home mom. I’ve been pregnant a few times and have two adorable kids, one seven and one three months. I am so glad I was given this advice because there is no way I could have been on my feet during my pregnancies.

Also, you can do this! It’s hard, but if you love kids as much as me, you’ll do anything to get them! I viewed my pregnancy pain as acute pain. It was going to have a stop date... I could do this!

Also, my pain level did get worse after each pregnancy. I want to be honest about that. I combat it with exercise. I try to exercise every day now so that I have enough energy to be as active as a mom as I can. I do not regret my babies at all. They are my pride and joy and their existence is worth it. On the flip side, being with them lowers my pain level because it helps to keep my mind off of the pain.

  1. Find a PT who has had coursework in pregnancy. Specially ask for coursework. Experience was not enough for me with my first pregnancy... she was horrible. My second pregnancy I had a PT I had worked with for a few years and she specifically took PD for pregnancy for me!
  2. Your OB does not need to have experience with fibro to be a great OB for you as long as they are willing to learn! Neither OBs I worked with had had a patient with bad fibro before. Both were so amazing because they were willing to learn as things came up. The only thing I insisted is that I see them for all OB appointments and that they try their best to deliver me... and they both did! I also interviewed my OBs. This was easy to do in city 1. City 2 did not have a procedure to do this. I pushed back and explained that I was disabled and needed to find the best one to take care of me as a result. Second I said disabled, they made it happen. Only reason I had two different ones was because I moved across country.
  3. You may need to take opioids during pregnancy. Take the smallest amount possible. If you do, demand to have a consult during pregnancy to see a neonatologist at the hospital where you are delivering. They can help put your mind at ease. Talk to them about the hospitals protocol for babies born with any amount of narcotic in their system. They may have a longer stay. Find out the protocols for monitoring them for withdrawal. Find out who will be monitoring them for this...
  4. Pregnancy support bands are a must when you start to get big. They aren’t pretty, but you can barely see them when you are wearing clothes.

  5. Stay active during your pregnancy! Walk everyday. At least 20 minutes at 60-80% of the target heart rate for your age. You get endorphins this way that will help with the pain. You also will have more energy after the baby comes this way. When I got further along, this got harder. I got this to use as a sitting bike or an arm bike to make exercising easier. I continue to use it as an arm bike for the days I have trouble walking.

If your posture is in your upper back and shoulders I would suggest buying a brace to wear around the house, in addition to working on your abdominal strength and neck flexibility.

My hips are the worst too!! My physical therapist recommended I wear an SI belt especially when I’ll be walking a lot, to support my lower back/hips and help them stay in place. She even helped me pick out this one, and said not to bother with the fancy expensive ones (and she was right, this simple one works great!). You wear it around the mid points (in front) of your hips, and the kind of knobby back points of your hips. Tighten up and you’re ready for business. Hope this helps!

The regular RidgeRest already has an r value of 2.6 which should be OK at 20 degrees. I have multiple CCF pads and quilts and just tried layering them and the comfort level was marginally different at best. I would just get a sit pad such as the Thermarest Z seat or this one to put under your feet.

I used a rolled up towel for a long time. It definitely worked! I eventually went to one designed specifically for lumbar support, and I definitely noticed a difference in the quality of support. The towel tends to squish down, and lose support after 30-45 minutes, in my experience.

I've spent the last 3 or 4 years trying to correct my shoulder. I did way too much bench as a kid (literally only bench), and my left shoulder is so tight I'm amazed I didn't snap something back in the day. Now I stretch it every damn day, I have weird marks on my bicep (I must have damaged a blood vessile from all the stretching at some point), and I can't even bench / row much anymore because when I do it with proper form my tendons are so sore from all the stretching that it just hurts too much. I reach tendon failure before I ever even give the muscles a good workout. I think I'm getting close to finally growing my shoulder into proper place, but Jesus Christ it took me 3 or 4 years of really hard stretching just to get here. Often times I will stretch so hard that my arm goes numb and starts to turn a kind of purply color. All I want is to be able to make regular gains just like regular people but these fucking tendons are just not long enough. This thing has been a god-send for stretching. I feel like such a weirdo because most people don't have problems like this. I've been lifting on and off now (properly) for a couple years now and my max bench is still 135 x 4 and I can only do like 6 pullups.

Have you tried something like this?

I have a spinal cord injury and throughout the first year and a half, some seats/surfaces caused incredible pain in my back. The support helped. I also had to bring my own cushion to sit on. Maybe just having a softer surface to sit on might help. So, maybe have a soft pillow/cushion to sit on might help with the pain.

Also, do you wear a belt when you sit? For me, a belt causes lower back pain after a while. Maybe take off or undo your belt when you're sitting. I have to undo mine to relieve some pain.

I'm 33 weeks with #2 and I've been experiencing this! My midwife recommended getting a V2 supporter. It has seriously been a game changer. This is the one I use. Also, try to stay cool and dry, so a lot of airing out and icing if possible.

Thanks for the update! A laparoscopic procedure will have a much shorter recovery time. Some people go home the same day, but I had to stay in the hospital overnight. I was up and able to walk to the bathroom the next day though. I actually went to the grocery store on the 4th day, but I was only able to shuffle around slowly and I needed a lot of help. The second week I was able to get around on my own using a cane. By the third week I still was pretty sore but I was able to walk around like normal. It's week 6 now and I still have some incision pain if I move in a funny way, but I'm definitely ready to go back to work.

If your mom ends up having an open procedure, the recovery time will be a bit longer. She might be in the hospital for 2-4 days and it could be 4-6 weeks before she can walk around like normal.

I'm not sure if the doctor mentioned it but here are some things that helped me with recovery:

  • an abdominal brace like this one
  • a grabber/reacher tool so I didn't have to bother people constantly to get things for me
  • a heating pad to help with the abdominal discomfort

    Side note: One thing I wasn't prepared for during recovery was how bad the withdrawal was once I stopped taking the painkillers. I was incredibly impatient, irritable and depressed coming off of the oyxcodone. My husband and I were fighting constantly until we realized it was due to the side affects from the medication. So if you're helping take care of your mom, remember to be patient! The psychological struggle during recovery can be just as hard, if not harder then the physical one.

I've got terrible posture from years of hunching over trying to hide my breasts in baggy shirts. I've got fibromyalgia now, and that coupled with my poor posture is wreaking havoc on my back. I recently bought this and much to my skeptical surprise, for the week I wore it before I went into a flare, it actually helped. It's not super comfortable, but it's also not torturously uncomfortable, and I do have to wear a shirt under it, which is kind of a pain in the ass, but still. I don't want to be that little old hunchbacked lady you try not to stare at in the doctor's office, you know? A tip on sizing; I am a small-boned girl, 5'4" 132lbs and the medium juuust fits me around the chest. Just thought I'd throw that out there it case it might be helpful to you.

Its simple too. Lay on it for 5 mins then on the floor for another 5. There should be how to videos on YouTube.

Our back pains are for very different reasons and works for us both. Sometimes one use is enough Sometimes it takes a few days but still worth a shot

Another thing you might consider is adding a lumbar support cushion to your chair, and mount it slightly higher than you normally would such that the butt of your pistol tucks underneath the pad. Congrats on the new job! I'm starting a new job next week, although not as glamorous, as a lifeguard so that should be interesting :)

Will your whole family be moving in with you at the hotel? Or is it just you staying there while you work? Just curious!

I decided to pick a couple of things that add up to 30, if that's not ok I can change it. I stalked a little and saw that you were trying to get healthier, so I think this is really important to have, because getting enough water is a really important part of being healthy. I have recently started leading healthier lifestyle and I carry my tumbler around everywhere I go so I always have water to drink and I'm not tempted to drink soda etc. Secondly, if your work allows it, i think this fan is a really good idea to have, because I know lobbies can get really warm and standing most of the day can make you sweat. No one enjoys being more uncomfortable than they have to be at work.

If the two items isn't ok i think this lumbar support cushion would be your best bet, I'm not sure if your work would allow it but it has some amazing reviews and could hopefully lessen a bit of the back pain you're feeling

This zumba cd would be my choice for myself :) or this juicing book

I've been having leg spasms, which seems to be attributed to poor posture when sitting at my desk. I also just need to help keep my body in shape while I'm still young so that I'm not in crazy poor shape when I'm older!
This isn't the most urgent need in the world, but this posture pillow on my wish-list is something I've been hoping to buy for myself once my housing situation is figured out more (and my finances along with it).
