The glaze is celestial blue (though I don't think this job does it justice, I knew I didn't like him before I glazed, which was rushed).

What I bought to make the candles:

  1. Paraffin wax ($12.00/5lbs) : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4JNWRY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  2. Wicks ($4.95): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015W8DWUO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  3. Pouring hot pot ($11.45):

  4. The smelly oil (I spent >$12.00, it's recommended you use 1oz of oil/ lb of wax): https://www.candlescience.com/fragrance/all-fragrance-oils

I had a thermometer and I just boiled water in a cooking pot to apply the heat.

Obviously new to candle making, there could be better/cheaper tools out there, this is just what I got from ~15 minutes of looking around.

    I used this how-to video.

I filled 4 smaller pots and have enough to make 5/6 more with the 5 lb amount of wax.

I just started rebuilding my vivi nova heads.

The wire I use is Kanthal A1 32 guage, and I buy it from this guy on ebay for $12.99 / 100ft. Free shipping:

I've finally found what seems to be the PERFECT wick. Cotton square braid candle wick (#1/0). I got 10 yards for $7.99:

Be sure to boil the wick for 15 minutes and then let it dry completely.

I followed this tutorial and it is REALLY easy:

The head I'm using now is 2.1ohm and is miles above the stock heads. The taste...OMG THE TASTE!

Thank you! I like to save jars from cooking, and started thinking I could make some candles with them. So I bought an enormous amount of soy wax and candle wicks from Amazon for ~$30 total. I also had some essential oil samples that I saved from work for this purpose.
I made a double boiler with a large metal bowl and a large pot of water. Melted the wax down, let it sit for a minute or two, then added the oils (so they wouldn't evaporate as quickly? it seemed pretty hot, so just an idea).
Then I made a makeshift funnel out of parchment paper, wrapped the wicks around skewers to keep them in place, and poured it in!
One thing I noticed with the first batch is that it takes a LOT of fragrance to actually smell like anything when you burn it. So I doubled the amount I used for the remaining batches and it seemed good. I don't have any measurements but I'd estimate ~3oz of oil for 1lb of wax.
Also I will put a bunch of parchment paper or something down next time, because I made a complete mess while scooping and dripped wax all over my counters. Had to come back with a razor blade when it dried :)
Overall it was really fun and relaxing, and I only used about half of my supplies! Making the labels was also cathartic.
So all the candles pictured (including the two huge ones in the back!) cost about $15 to make.
They burn relatively evenly, but I do get a bit of unevenness like you said, especially with ones where I used more oil. They dry pretty smoothly though.

I have done this. My oven is hot (120 degrees F constantly) when it is off, so I put the candle in there for a few hours to liquefy. Then I drop in a fresh wick, center it with a toothpick, then allow it to cool and solidify.

A few hours in a hot car can be enough to melt the candle. Then your car smells nice, too.

If you let the candle totally melt down, the ashy sediment sinks to the bottom, so the rest of candle looks cleaner.

In the Rockin' Robbie video, he uses #1/0 candle wick. I'd say if you do a search for that specific size, you'll get better results. Of course, make sure it's lead-free, 100% undyed cotton.

Edit: Like this (was first result I got. You may find a better one.)

To add to what others stated

http://www.mcmaster.com/ (search 316 stainless steel wire rope 7x7, their site doesn't work well on my phone)

Http://www.themeshcompany.com (they have SS mesh and also silica wick now)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GEXTTK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1368888473&sr=8-1&pi=SL75 (square braid cotton wick)

LorAnns, Hobby Lobby, and even some.Wal-Mart's sell organic "wick"(hemp, bamboo, cotton you want unbleached and 100% of whatever material, no nylon or polyester)

Also make sure to boil any organic wick for 15 minutes and never dry burn it. Oxidize any.mesh. if you use SS rope, add a layer of Oxidized mesh where the coil is or use some xc-116 ceramic sleeving(sng_vapor or bigtexvapor sells)

For the wick, I'm going to just buy the ones with the aluminum base like [these] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PEZZDC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2JVBPBGJYYSPJ&coliid=I3Q6POU42CEF6G) because they are cheap, have great reviews, and come in large quantities. For the holders, I'm going to create some out of wine bottles we have lying around by heating them with string and sanding the edges smooth. I'm super excited!

Why don't you try this stickers? The extra strong double sided adhesive foam discs are perfect for securing wicks to the bottom of your container in hot wax. The candle wick stickers prevent your candle wick from shifting in container while wax cools. They stick fine even after pour wax.

I’d try switching brands of wicks, even the ones I get off amazon cheap burn 3 inches easily. You can also try wooden wicks to guarantee they get the whole diameter. https://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Wick-Co-Original-Authentic/dp/B07JR9JGSW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=wooden+wicks&qid=1566955498&s=gateway&sr=8-3

When I rebuilt my protank head, I used cotton as well. I placed another wick on top of the coil and I haven't had any issues with gurgling/flooding.
