I use this one which works great, but the one you posted from catit probably works really well. Love their toys.

I think they recommend the filters be replaced every week or so but I usually just play it by ear and judge how the filter looks whenever I refill the water. I find that I end up replacing it closer to every 3-4 weeks. I looked at the page I linked too and the standalone filters are kinda expensive there, here's a much more affordable amazon link for replacement filters specifically

The filter isn't required for it to run.

Thank you! It was actually my attempt to get her to exercise a little. I placed her food bowl up on the top so she has to jump up a couple steps to get to it. The food bowl itself is also a weight management strategy by requiring cats to dig up food bits from inside a tube onto the eating area. So fingers crossed that these methods keep my gargoyle watching me for a long time to come :)

In case you are curious about the food bowl and water fountain, here is the link on Amazon ;)

Here's what i have. Nice and quiet as long as you keep it topped up. You do have to clean the parts often or they get icky from cat food particles. Filters arent too expensive and last a while. Pretty to look at at night.

Definitely better than a bowl or gravity fed water bowl.

You can get this on Amazon for around $55 (large) and $68 (small).

I would, however, recommend this instead:

Cats actually need fresh water but most people dont know that. Some cats wont even drink out of plastic bowls because of all the bacteria that grows in them. My cat rained herself to turn on the sink faucet and I never new why until years later. There are little kitty fountains now.

I would get a water fountain and separate the food and water. I keep my cat's food in the living room and her water in the kitchen. Cat's instinctively don't like them next to each other because in the wild water sources have a lot of traffic which makes them vulnerable.

Any water fountain will do but I recommend ceramic because they're easier to clean and more hygenic compared to the plastic versions. I have this one. It's a bit pricey but totally worth it!

First- Congrats on your new kitty! They're so much fun and full of character, I'm sure you will love having one.

Others already hit on some great points, so I'll offer my personal favorites for keeping mess down and controlling shedding.

I could talk about my fur baby all day...his name is Mercutio Bartholomew (Moose for short!) I've had him since he was a wee baby fuzzy ball of fluff. He is the best. He acts more like a dog than a cat. He used to play fetch when he was little. As an adult fluff ball, he loves car rides (he will sleep on the passenger's seat, and he likes to look out of the window as we drive.) He loves when I take him to be groomed! He never bites, never scratches. He adores belly rubs. You can rub his belly all day. He recently beat diabetes (he used to be 23 pounds, now he is down to 17 pounds!) I love him so much, I don't know what I would do without my cuddle bear <3

Here is a picture of my handsome man!

He would really love this Petsafe Current Circulating Pet Fountain because he currently only has a tiny bowl, and the dog always steals his water :(

Thanks for hosting, and I can't wait to see all of the other kitties!

Edit: Misspelled a word!

I got this it’s plastic and comes apart. This one doesn’t pool but he stands on top of it and digs at it. So splashes everywhere or manages to knock it over. I even tried taping it up with electrical tape so he couldn’t separate the layers and surrounded it with bricks. He still digs. He’s a 15lb ball of muscle. He knows how to slide the bricks across the floor and how to stand on something just right to knock it over. I was also thinking of a ceramic fountain that doesn’t pool?

Funny that this comes out on the day that I've been seriously researching cat fountains! (Seriously, I've spent maybe three hours on this the past two days...)

I've been looking at this one on Amazon, because it has the most reviews and isn't as large as the Catit. I'm a big fan of the removable-flower-model, though, which is probably why this other one has made my list, too. I am mostly worried about the reviews -- how much should I trust them?

My biggest worry though is that I'll buy a $30 cat fountain and have it burn out and have to replace it yearly, or I'll buy an $80 cat fountain and meet the same thing. My parents' cats have a fountain, but it's just too large and gets too dirty for me to want that style.

You could spray him with a spray bottle (they're sold at Dollar Tree (and sometimes Walmart) if you don't have a clean one (with no chemicals/chemical residue))... but it would be hard to make a budgie bathe. I've owned lots of budgies over the years, and only a few willingly do it on their own.

https://www.dollartree.com/colorful-plastic-spray-bottles-10oz/177821

I see you have a water tray already that looks similar to the "budgie bath" that is sold on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Budgie-Bath/dp/B004J1VTK6

You could also consider having something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYWQOE1/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

... But the bird would likely be afraid of it... and since it isn't tame, there probably wouldn't be a good place for it outside the cage anyway.

Birds usually have to feel safe and comfortable to want to bathe
