I dont have this problem, just messed with some extra equipment. I suggest

I have a logitech red ball from the older corded version of that. Found it on CL and just took the ball out.

There's also a red one that they sell on Amazon that fits:

Yeah, at first you could find trackballs, keyboards, little d-pads like on game controllers, and trackpads on phones. The recent BlackBerry KEYone had a hidden setting that allowed you to rub your fingers over the keyboard and move the mouse cursor on the screen like a trackpad on a laptop. Android has full support for mouse cursors, and last I checked there are a few apps that allow rooted phones to have a little trackpad on their screen.

For some operations, it sucks. But for a lot of navigation, it takes a lot less effort to keep your finger in the same place. The Nexus One I linked to in the original post would let you scroll down a webpage with it, and as you scrolled, it would also highlight links on the screen. Then you push in the ball, it makes a little click, and it takes you to the webpage. I liked that. ♥

Logitech and Kensington still make computer trackballs, and even release new designs now and then! The current popular one for hardcore users seems to be this one, though: https://www.amazon.com/CST2545-5W-Ambidextrous-Performance-Ergonomic-Trackball/dp/B00YI07MC2/ There's a review on one of the product pages from someone who swears by it for playing Planetside 2, lol. 99% of people say those who play FPS games with trackballs are nuts, but the other 1% say it's so much better. 😁

u/QWERTY36 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Two recommendations:

  1. Full desk mouse mat, very helpful especially with 2 mice. Makes it look clean too (which you've don't a great job with so far!)

  2. You should check out a Nice trackball or a track pad for whichever computer you don't game on, it'll save space, and it'll look a bit cleaner since there aren't 2 mice on the desk.

Yeah I seen that when I googled it. I don't think you can make a controller as precise as KB/M. There was a company I think was designing one but they are not shipping as far as I know. In my PC gaming days I used a Logitech Marble Trackman mouse for Quake III and was always accused of being a bot an actual character bot. So much so that game servers would actually send character bots out after me. Sigh. The good ole days. Anyway, the XBox/PS controllers joystick doesn't work well for aiming in FPS. Maybe a controller that has a mouse ball for one of the joysticks would be a nice. This is the mouse, not the new ones: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-TrackMan-Marble-Wheel-Mac/dp/B00004L8IG

I couldn't find anything other than PS2 keyboards but I did com across an advertisement image for the Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball V1.0 and PS2 that had an external connector that connects the PS2 part to a connector that looks similar to VGA on the back of the first computer. Product found on Amazon.

Hope that helps even a little bit on trying to find a mouse and keyboard for those ancient pieces of history.

Perixx glossy red 34mm from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071NX7Y2J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XpZVCb1S7WAY2

I've used both glossy and matte red and they both feel great. I swap between them pretty often, depending on what I'm doing, but I definitely prefer the glossy finish. I would say the finish on the stock MX Ergo ball is somewhere in between the two.

u/mattrox217 · 2 pointsr/headphones

Thanks for the advice. I also was hesitant over the price selection ally with it being priced so close to the CST Trackballs I use at home.

If you travel with the M 570 a lot, I’ll recommend getting a hard shell case for it like this. I had two M 570s break from, I assume, getting jostled around in my bag. I now put mine in a case and I’ve had no problems since.

u/IvGotSomthinToSay · 2 pointsr/diablo3

This may or may not help a bit on your wrist, but it looks like it’ll still be hard on your elbow at least. I’m a huge fan of my thumb ball mouse. There are other finger track balls that some people like. I’m partial to the thumb ball ones though. They obviously take some adjusting to get used to, but since I switched, I stopped having wrist pains.

This is the one I’m currently using.

u/yoshemitzu · 2 pointsr/answers

They definitely exist (you want to search for "mouse retractable cord," or something along those lines -- Amazon, for example), but you probably unfortunately won't be able to find a high end/name brand mouse with that feature.

Edit: Worth mentioning, since I'm extremely anal about mice as well: if your issue with wires is annoyance WRT them getting caught on stuff, the cable being too short/tight, etc., you might consider a trackball mouse. This one has a wire. With your thumb on the trackball, there's no motion of the mouse body itself required to move the cursor, which totally eliminates cord snag issues.

I personally use the MX Ergo. It's wireless, but I was able to fix issues with shoddy wireless signal by giving the dongle a long USB extender and putting it far away from any noise sources.

u/dragontology · 2 pointsr/Enhancement

They didn't make the wired version at the time. I can find it now on Amazon. Collectors are selling them for $399.99. That is not a typo.

Here's a generic one for $24.99. Also not a typo. ;)

Weird coworkers... sure, I'm almost 40, given time I could probably come up with a few other gems. I just thought of the lady with the Vietnamese snake wine because it was so odd and at the same place.

Yeah, a couple years later, I was doing a security job — jobs were kinda scarce right after 9/11, even though we weren't in a high risk area. Big companies were shipping jobs overseas, afraid of doing business in America, even in low risk areas. Anyway, I worked with this cheerful idiot of a man child (not that I wasn't one myself) and he once confided in me that he went to the interview stoned out of his gourd. To a security job. As if he didn't know security companies were staffed by retired cops. Or guys who couldn't make it as cops. So he gets there, high as a motherfucker, and they go to do a swab. He tells them his mouth is dry and asks if he could please get some water. They let him. He goes into the break room, and they have a water dispenser. He pours a cup of the hot, near boiling water, and he chugs it, burning the shit out of his throat. He gargles it. He takes the swab test and passes. If you think this is bullshit, I'm right there with you. He told me this story. I have no way of verifying it. He didn't last long, and when he left, he was fired, and the supervisors wouldn't say word one about it. I bet they caught him with weed. Security guards get dropped in on by their supervisors all the time. You're working a site, it's just you, plenty of opportunity to do drugs (or pot; I know, pot isn't a drug, the Good Lord wouldn't have made it if the Good Lord didn't expect us to smoke it, etc., etc.) but also, surprise visits are a thing.

Anyway, I'd relieve him after an 8 hour shift, and he would not leave. We'd get to talking, and I was on shift, I couldn't leave. And he'd stay for an hour. One hour turned into two, two into three. Longest he ever stayed was 5 hours, unpaid, into my shift. If anyone asked, I was training him. No one ever did, that was just the cover we agreed to. Supervisor dropped in, he forgot something and was just going (and would). Anyway, I started doing the same as we became friends, but I never stayed more than an hour, and most of the time he'd stay one or two hours, too. What was so special about this guy was, he would not shut up about a show called Babylon 5. Maybe you've heard of it. What he didn't tell me, that I think is so interesting, is that it was one of the first TV shows to air in 16:9. It would either have the letterboxing (bars on top and bottom) on the old 4:3 TVs, or they'd just cut the sides off (pan and scan). It was a challenge back then. TV stations didn't like it. Anyway, he actually told me, one day, the entire story of the show, leaving out very little details. And it sounded awesome. I meant to watch it, but didn't, for years. And then one day I got a great deal on the DVD box set at a yard sale. I thought, has to be fate. I think I paid like $20. Wife wasn't interested, so I watched it on my own. And I loved it. Wife agreed to watch it with me, so I watched it a second time with her.

Sorry, that was a long story, and that guy wasn't that weird, except for how he passed the drug test. Supposedly. But I mean, he didn't smoke around me, he wasn't trying to sell me pot, he wasn't trying to sound cool, so I kinda believe him, though what I choose to believe is, one, he probably cut the hot water with cold so it wasn't at 185 or whatever those hot taps put out, because I think that would have caused permanent damage. And two, either he didn't smoke that much that morning or, I don't know. Either the swab test was weak or faulty, or maybe it showed pot but no other substances and they passed him anyway. I don't think his story was 100% truthful, in any case.

Ah, my bad. I owned the OG "Trackman Marble" (same name, but that thumb-ball form factor and in the beige era : https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-TrackMan-Marble-Wheel-Mac/dp/B00004L8IG )

I highly agree with your sentiment that the centered ball type/form factor was weird and unusable. But I do know someone who swears by it. Really weird.

I thought the new one was named the Trackman Marble too. But yes, I also owned that gray/red model (Trackman Wheel). And the wireless black/blue M570 that followed it.

Sadly, their microswitch quality has gone downhill in recent years. I would've moved on to the MX Ergo, but the prices are just insane and the microswitches are still prone to failure. I've since switched to gaming mice and am really happy with their crazy-precise sensors. I miss having a good thumb trackball though.

I also got an Elecom thumb trackball. It's like the Trackman Wheel, but with a few extra buttons, a better sensor and a fancier mousewheel. Feels alright to use. Would recommend if you're really sticking to that form factor. I don't know if I would've enjoyed it long-term but I eventually just gave mine to my sister's husband to use when his Trackman Wheel broke. He's been happily using it for a year.

u/Fish-E · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

Based on the name I'm going to guess that's where the tube goes through... well, down there. I felt disgusted enough having a tube in my arm, so I'm shuddering just thinking about that.

I've been thinking this through some more - would something like this be of use? I don't know a lot about carpal tunnel, but presumably you could still play turn based games using this - I suspect you could roll it, somewhat accurately, with your other hand or, if necessary, nudge it along with your elbow and use your elbow to click the big buttons. It would hardly be ideal, but it's better than sitting around being bored.

u/FF0000it · 1 pointr/Trackballs

Note: I have smallish hands for a guy.

I have the Elecom wired version, and I love everything about it. It's a little smaller than the Logitech, but I don't have any problem with it. For $48, I suggest you take the plunge. Give it a couple weeks to get used to the size if your first impression is "wow this is small".

What I do have problems with are huge trackballs the size of pool-balls, e.g. the CST trackballs.

Note: previous trackballs were the Microsoft Trackball Explorer and then the Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. The MS was my all-time favorite, but I wore it out in about 5 years. The Logitech was good, but I wasn't in love with it. I actually prefer the Elecom to it. The MS is still the winner, and if I found a stash of a dozen new ones at a reasonable price I'd snap them all up. :)

u/UnclaimedUsername · 1 pointr/Gaming4Gamers

A trackball, like so. You don't need to move it at all like a mouse, just put it wherever's comfortable. Takes some getting used to but in time you can be just as good with it as with a mouse.

Looking for a full-size steel/aluminum rgb/white backlit usb wired mechanical keyboard w/a trackball for under $150

basically a combination of https://www.amazon.com/Desktop-Stainless-Keyboard-Mechanical-Trackball/dp/B07252JMJF

and https://www.amazon.com/Perixx-Periboard-522-Mechanical-Trackball-Keyboard/dp/B07F17YLLM/ for desktop use

Ideally it should be easy to clean with all keys removed, relatively silent, either permanently tilted or with pop-out supports on the back,

and have all mouse buttons + forward and back by the trackball (fingers getting stiff) with the ability to both scroll and move the cursor

u/Mr401blunts · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I actually want this,

Think about it,

5 buttons. Each scroll wheel clicks down & 3 independent buttons.

Godly concept, i really want one & will continue to search till i find one of modern taste.

And so i did

Edit: Fist contender & i love this idea, its by the thumb.

Ah Thank you for such good feedback.

My friend has this orbit scroll ring and raves about it. Which one precedes it though, I thought this was the one?

Wow I hadn't seen that MacMice one. Not my type though, too.... Mac-ish and seems like I will spend more than what it is worth.

I agree that weight wont be too much different for most. I am worried though, I heard some reviews claim that the nice Kensington balls weigh close to a pool table ball.

Damn honestly I have been down to the Deft Pro and Orbit w/Scroll. I was leaning towards the later. I have bought so many mice this year. I made the MX Ergo my expensive mouse buy because I thought it would be the end of my search. I think another reason I am leaning towards the Orbit is that i can use my left hand if my right gets sore.

Here is a case for Deft Pro I found on Amazon BTW

Edit: I meant to ask whether center balls are supposed to be better for the wrist. I find my pain is from clicking with my fingers rather than in my thumb (although it may all be connected).

Edit2: Sorry I realized that the case is the Deft HUGE.. You right I couldnt find one from the PRO. Seems like they should have one for the PRO before the HUGE.

u/speewave · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Woah, thats insane how much that costs. i'm not too big in to Gaming mice to know why this mouse is so damn revered. although it's no where near the cost of a Trackball Explorer

The one i have,

Sounds generic, but it's a MS Mouse

u/Risket2017 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the best subreddit for this sort of question. If anyone could point me to the correct place that would be greatly appreciated.

My Dad recently had an aneurysm and has lost some of his ability to use his right arm and leg. It's getting better with therapy, but will most likely never be the same. With his diminished ability to get around, he's spending more time on the computer, but he's having a lot of trouble using a mouse. He currently uses a standard wired USB mouse.

He's able to use the mouse, but is having trouble with accurately pointing it where he wants. For example, I had to remote into this system to reorganize his Edge browser bookmarks because he accidentally messed up the order he had them in.

I was thinking about a trackball or maybe a track pad of some kind.

This thing looks interesting, but it also looks like a fucking Fisher Price toy: https://www.amazon.com/BIGtrack-2-0-Trackball-Buttons-12000006/dp/B0006ZM7VY

Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing and could recommend a good candidate for someone in my Dad's condition?

Thanks

u/Enignite · 1 pointr/starcitizen

Thought about using my Bamboo Pen but I think the lack of buttons would be an issue. I have a Warthog stick (no throttle) plus CH Pedals so I might just have to rebind stuff but I dislike using the 'brakes' for much because it's uncomfortable as a throttle while still using the pedals for roll and without a keyboard I'm not sure how much room I'll have left on the stick.

Has anyone tried a trackball though? Something like this, it still lacks buttons but at least has two + scroll, I'm just not sure if trackballs are responsive/accurate enough for gaming.

u/Ulnor · 1 pointr/MAME

Understand why you like the model you posed since it's external use, but like many here said to MAME it's a mouse. So why not consider an actual trackball mouse like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B002Q42S4E/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_yJDSDbNDBWZ8J ?

for very small hands, I have seen in a shop in Japan a tiny thumb trackball.

I just found a page (in japanese) that have them: http://www.biccamera.com/bc/disp/CSfDispListPage_001.jsp?dispNo=001110045&entr_nm=%83i%83J%83o%83%84%83V

The maker is Nakabayashi, maybe you could find those abroad as well.

u/JeffIpsaLoquitor · 1 pointr/Surface

I recommend the M570 thumb trackball It's stationary and cheap and takes up less space than a mouse because it doesn't need to move. There's a decent case that you can buy to carry it. All in all, it's cheaper than a nicer mouse and functional.

I use it with a radial menu and a handful of AutoHotkey scripts for fast access and scrolling. Quite a nice accessory.

I here these are the best to game with, out of all of the trackball mice. I use this mouse for productivity. I have a logitech g502 that I use for gaming. I am REALLY considering this right now though. There is a drop for them on Massdrop.
