It may not be historical but this design for a sheath lets you draw a zwei hander immediately from the back. Two hooks at top and a short sheath for end of the blade.

I got it from Amazon and it's made of plastic .
I was zelda obsessed at five, I want to echo that my favorite thing was what someone suggested, sword shield and outfit.
Most zelda stuff is for a slightly older kid but if he doesn鈥檛 have it already there is a foam master sword that is fairly cheap and pretty cool you can probably find it at Amazon.
If not then just more foam swords even if they are not zelda related, I broke on at least once a week while hitting too many things with it so it was important to have more

That's easy. This bad boy. It's honestly more of a "joke" item. You know, something no one would ever get, "but I can dream!". Even if it didn't fit, it would look SWEET on a mannequin. Barring all else, I could sell it for a pretty penny and buy the rest of my wishlist.
But I'd really love to get one or two of the nice shirts I have on my wishlist.
Find a belt that fits your waist comfortably. Get your scabbard and attach two straps (you could cut these from another belt, clog, whatever)-- one around the scabbard, a bit below the mouth, and one folded into a loop attached at 90 degrees to the first strap, on the back side of the scabbard. You should end up with a loop sticking up behind the hilt of the sword. Doesn't need to be a really big loop, just big enough to get the waist belt through. Put the waist belt through it, belt it around your waist, and adjust where the loop sits along the belt so the sword hangs at your hip.
ETA: Like so. If you get the size right, you can make the part around the sheath a solid loop and skip the lacing.

Apparently these are the best you'll find. Under the Q&A section someone details the metals used. What sucks is that about 2 years ago these were on Amazon for less than $20. It might be a good thing if they started using quality metals. I really don't know for sure though.
