I cannot recommend this one enough. "Big Truth For Little Kids". It utilizes the Reformed Catechism for Boys and Girls. Also pair this with "Ask Me Whooo" which are the same catechism questions put to song which makes it really catchy and easy to remember.

As a starting point, I would say keep it simple. Little kids get burnt out if you get bogged down for too long. We do ours over dinner, after we talk about our day. I also use "Short Steps for Long Gains" as a conversation starter.

Here are our favorites, I'd recommend first checking your library:

Caspar Babypants, very catchy tunes with silly songs. It took us two or three go-throughs with these cds before we fell in love, but now we (and the friends we've gifted them to) find ourselves listening in the car even when we don't have kids with us.

Classical Kids story cds, we listen to these while going to sleep at night.

Laurie Berkner Band, I discovered this, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Caspar Babypants all while tweaking my favorite kids' songs on Pandora.

Wiggleworms by Old Town School of Folk Music, these have all the classic kids' songs and more in a music together sort of style.

Instead of laying with the 3yo, maybe your wife could sit in a chair nearby (could gradually move further every night if you want her falling asleep independently). You can also try coming in to check on her every 5 min, then 10 min, etc. Start with very short intervals that she can tolerate - even if it's just "Mommy has to go to the bathroom and will be right back" - and praise her for staying in bed. You could even do a sticker chart if she's motivated by that.

Sounds like she also may just not be ready to sleep - either overtired or not tired enough, not able to wind down, etc. Might be worth looking at the rest of the bedtime routine leading up to this and make sure it's as relaxing and low-key as possible. You could try some music or an audiobook/guided meditation (like this or this) while your wife is sitting with her, something that would keep her interest in staying in the room but not be so distracting it keeps her up.

I don't mean to make light of your situation, but lullably versions of Taylor Swift songs do exist.

I've never field-tested these on actual infants, but I suspect the first one would be more effective.

  1. Ursula! So disgustingly evil!

  2. I'd have to say Ariel!

  3. Disney Album!

The tiny ones I'd like to win this Wiggles CD/Mp3s are my cousins kids, a boy and a girl (Twins!) They love The Wiggles, one of them has the same name as one of the band members and they absolutely love when they're on screen it's adorable.

When I watch them I sometimes put on a Wiggles DVD I used to watch on VHS 20 years ago when I was 2 (the age they are now). It's very surreal and also excellent because I remember all the words and dance moves to do with them

Miss Amy - Do You Know Your Muscles

unfortunately theres no youtube video of it but the song is on itunes/amazon you can preview it first. it's funky as can be and it's educational too! perfect for a 5 year old (and maybe this 21 year old too). i know she does like a whole sort of teaching kids through music thing kinda like the wiggles but i dont know what the rest of her stuff is like.

The very un majestic way my son just shoved an entire piece of toast, plus three pieces of cheese into his mouth, only to spit it out in one large ball of mush makes me want to get him the new Beethoven's Wig album so he can calm the fuck down. :P

Oh! Well, then scratch that suggestion. Instead, I suggest this mp3 since it goes with the same theme I was describing, but I doubt you've heard it enough to be sick of it.

I've been partial to this "Disney Jazz" compilation - "Everybody Wants to be a Cat" (http://www.amazon.com/Everybody-Wants-Be-Cat-Disney/dp/B0045CBKN0)
Top jazz performers reinvent Disney classics. Most are quite good. The music never falls into that vast wasteland known as "smooth jazz" - instead, it stays firmly rooted in true jazz. Good stuff.

Louis Armstrong's "Disney Songs the Sachmo Way" is another fun compilation of tunes. This time done only as Sachmo could do them. His version of "Bibbidi Bobbidy Boo" is my kids' favorite. (http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Songs-The-Satchmo-Way/dp/B0013JZJ2Q)

Dave Brubeck also swung Disney songs in a jazzy way. His "Dave Digs Disney" is a classic jazz album, and fun for the Disney fan. (http://www.amazon.com/Dave-Digs-Disney/dp/B0018PZ80I)

There's also the Sherman & Sherman Songbook, which is quite a treasure. (http://www.amazon.com/Sherman-Brothers-Songbook-digital-booklet/dp/B0039F4P18) It features stuff from the Mickey Mouse Club, many original Magic Kingdom rides (Small World, Tiki Room) and a ton of other great stuff. It's a must-have for any Disney aficionado.

My son is currently hooked on Joe McDermott, his two favorite songs are:

Don't Get Close to the Alligators

Baby Kangaroo

The Whole Album is really good...

Couldn't find any youtube links, but he is on Spotify/Itunes/Amazon

Fun stuff available from Dan Bern and The Terrible Twos (1) and (2).

The Terrible Twos are really just The New Amsterdams with another name for their kids albums.

Was it on Don Cooper's Dino-Songs album? https://www.amazon.com/Dino-Songs-Don-Cooper/dp/B002G80OV4

I personally use the brown noise app, but if the loop is an issue, try this song https://www.amazon.com/Brown-Noise-Sleep-Sounds-Life/dp/B001YWEO78/

I just added that song to a playlist that puts it on repeat for 8 hours. Since it takes 1 hour to finish the song, I'm typically asleep by then
