We got the 40in variety from Amazon.

I use this for play time with my rats. I can't deal with trying to make sure they don't destroy my room.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002Y1OZE/

Or if not I will setup on the bed and just let them run on the bed.

I understand your feelings and maybe pet ownership is not something for you right now. If you do decide you don't want them anymore make sure to take them to a shelter or rescue so they can be re-homed, sometimes giving them up is the kindest thing you can do if that's just where you are at.

Sometimes I have to look at my pet ownership as service to the animal, and I wont' always get what I want out of it but I if I can ensure my rats have a happy life that's something to feel good about.

You might want to consider buying an x-pen for when you leave your puppy at home. It will give her a little more room to roam (and you could control what goes into the x-pen) without needing to be leashed up. We left our puppy in his x-pen (for about the first 6 months of his life) when we would go to work during the day, and eventually he just learned to sleep while we were gone. Once we finally let him have free roam, we worked up in very small increments - like 20 minutes while we ran to the grocery store. We slowly built up the increments of time we left him, and eventually we were able to let him roam free by the time he was about 7 months old or so. Maybe we just got really lucky, because we're pretty sure he just sleeps by the door the whole time we're gone. But the x-pen is definitely a good option!

I would suggest that you definitely keep up the crate training. Are you putting treats in his crate when he goes in? Sometimes it's best to associate the crate with these types of positive reinforcements so he is more inclined to think the crate is a great place. If he has separation anxiety, I heard this heartbeat toy works quite well for young puppies.

My other suggestion is, the meantime, while you are crate training him, why don't you get one of these playpens if you have to leave him in the kitchen. That way he is at least away from the walls and in an enclosed space. If he starts to chew the playpen, you could spray it with this bitter spray which really helped my dog when he was teething.

Good luck!!

This breaks my heart! My rabbits are the love of my life. I have two now and have fostered a dozen of them. The /r/rabbits subreddit might be able to help you both in terms of rehoming but also mitigating their behavior. Here are some suggestions I have:

  • Buy an exercise pen and keep your rabbits in the enclosure. This is enough living space and you can let them out supervised to run around.

  • Cover their play areas (and the expen floor) with cheap rugs for them to dig on. You can also use bedsheets and towels from goodwill!

  • Get them more chew toys. Their teeth don't stop growing and it causes them immense pain to leave it that way. Without enough chew toys, they'll destroy things. Try wicker baskets, cardboard boxes, and chew blocks. All only a couple dollars.

  • Get them a dig box. Here's an example, you can put dirt or whatever they like to destroy in there, put a lid over them so it doesn't spill, and puncture holes for air.

  • are they neutered/spayed? if they aren't, fixing them will not only increase their lifespan but also reduce their destructive behaviors.

These are just things off the top of my head. Please, don't hesitate to PM me (or post on the rabbits sub) and I can help you fix your setup. If you want to send me pictures of your home, I can try to come up with some ideas!! Please don't give up on the little buns... mine have destroyed so much too but they just don't know better!!

    Edit:

  • How well trimmed do you keep their nails? That could be a factor
u/tinycatface · 2 pointsr/Rabbits

I like this one for my one dwarf rabbit but also have this one at my partner's house when the bun is staying over there. I got the large for the second one, FYI - the others are a bit small.

Both are big enough for my bun to run laps, hop about and binky - the one without a bottom is more customizable but the other is easier to store and travel with.

My dog had TPLO done last November. Recovery is a pain but she's good as new now. We bought a dog pen (like this), put her bed, blankets and water dish in there. She hung out there during the day while we were at work. Good luck!

Share with your mom the resources I shared. I work for a bunny rescue and I know what I am saying.

Hay is 90% of their diet and really critical for health! Tell you mom that otherwise she will have to spend a lot of money on vet bills later! Any money spent on good hay saves tenfold the money on vet bills. If nothing else I can promise you this! Show you mom - this print it out!

Please don't ignore this advice - if you want to keep her healthy she needs to eat a ton of hay and right now I best she is not eating a lot at all. Hay fiber is what keeps her digestive system healthy and hay is what grinds down her teeth the best, otherwise the they never stop growing and eventually overgrow to the point where the cause mouth sores... she will stop eating and get very very sick. You don't want this!

Here are some resources from professionals:

https://myhouserabbit.com/rabbit-care/hay-for-rabbits-the-basis-for-a-healthy-diet/

https://rabbit.org/the-importance-of-hay/

https://www.saveafluff.co.uk/rabbit-info/importance-of-hay - look at pictures of teeth that happen without hay - this will cost a lot more to fix than hay

I am sorry but if you cannot buy her good hey you need to rehome her... she will eventually get sick and die without hay. It's cruel to keep her.

And please don't buy another cage!!!! I shared with you exactly what you need to buy! Did you look? here is what you basically want to do - so just get two things:

  1. This xpen - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Foldable-Metal-Exercise-Playpen/dp/B07584TRYH/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=xpen&qid=1558727781&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&th=1 (42 inches)
  2. For the floor you can use a thick plastic tablecloth - you'll put this on the floor beneath the pen. It will be easy to clean, and protects your carpet from pee/droppings just in case. Over the tablecloth you will place a thick blanket that the bun can run on. Anchor outside pen edges so the bun can't dig it up. You can wash the blanket and wipe the plastic under it. You bun is happy and floor is safe.
  3. You also need a larger litter tray to get her litter trained like this - it's only a few bucks
    1. I highly recommend using either carefresh paper litter the is much more absorbent or wood pellets which are equally absorbent and actually have good odor control... might suggest using a mix (in layers) kind of like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPMlRVUNZ00.
  4. And here is the hay https://shop.smallpetselect.com/products/sampler-box
    1. I can donate the hay to you - one box so you see that she will eat it and she need it (PM me).

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH POST WITH YOUR MOM - I am an adult, I know what I am saying and would not give bad advice or try to waste your money. This is under $100 in total.

I’m also moving and have two cats. I haven’t tried this yet, but I found a play pen on amazon with great reviews after a friend of mine recommended I give them some more space than their little crate. Ruff 'n Ruffus Portable Foldable Pet Playpen + Carrying Case & Collapsible Travel Bowl (Large (36" x 36" x 23")) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071RY3NF9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MgGzDbPV7DQ2Y

I’m planning on using the play pen for feeding so they get used to it and relate it to something good (they love eating), add their favorite blanket & some toys.

Very good idea to get a chip - both my indoor kitties have chips too! My cats love to look out the window and watch birds but it doesnt really necessarily mean they are desperate to get out. In fact my younger one is scared of the outdoors, but my older one loves going in her pen. I would say ultimately it's up to you about indoors or outdoors; theres also the risk of him catching various diseases/parasites outside as well (more trips to the vet!)

This pen that I have but there are so many colors and sizes, I'm sure you'll find one you like (note that these are typically for dogs but my cats do just fine in them!)

Stroller I have is from chewy.com:

While dogs notoriously like dens (small spaces) and feel safe in them, I would have to imagine that just for general safety and visibility, it would be best to not put the dog under the bed. Puppies do really stupid things (like eat carpet/dust bunnies/cloth/whatever) and it would be best if the dog was in your sight. The idea of a pen is a great one though!! This is really commonly used, and the typically name you'll hear it called is an "Ex-pen" or exercise pen. These are actually so common, they're available on amazon!. If you can make one yourself, they are a really great way to make sure your puppy is safe when you cant watch them.

He wont need a lot of space since he is so small, so between your bed and a wall may work just fine. Its great you are so handy to be able to build this, they really mark them up.

u/AtlasMaverick · 2 pointsr/cats

May I suggest a yoyomoon as well? It’s not for walking, but it’s great to get indoor cats outside! The bottom can be unzipped so they can enjoy the grass, and it collapses completely flat.

I know an Indian woman named Alka and I think that's really pretty. Congrats on your fur baby! I'm so excited for you!

Edit: also, this might be helpful while she's adjusting to your home!

He spends most of his time in here:
https://www.amazon.com/IRIS-3-Tier-Wire-Cage-Gray/dp/B009LCU51M

but I am trying to figure out how to add this thing (which I already have in the house) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MU2FAYC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in a way that he can't climb out of it (we are building a roof, basically).

I'm thinking of stretching it out to be long and narrow instead of a big hexagon, possibly putting that section behind the couch so he can get at a window.

Thank you for your kindness, you have made me feel a lot better about all of this.

if they are eating, the chasing doesn't occur as much. The chasing has been relatively constant today; I think both of their sleep schedules have been affected. They aren't big on toys. They have one little plastic hut that is rarely used by either unless we are trying to extract them for some reason (nail clipping etc).

The pen is basically this: https://www.amazon.com/Magshion-S-XXL-Animal-Playpen-L-36inch/dp/B01LWPMU53/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1480194117&sr=8-4&keywords=36+pen+animal

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013OP4J0E/ref=sr_ph_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492098654&sr=sr-1&keywords=jespet

Only the bottom isn't totally waterproof so I put pee pads underneath the pen to make sure my floors aren't wet if she knocks over the water or something. It collapses so it's pretty easy to store and it's almost half mesh so she plays with the cat while I'm gone. My dog is young and has sharp claws so she's poked some holes but it still works fine.

This is where I got mine as I have Prime. If you do, it's really not a bad price. :) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NHVR3JK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

He should be fine. He might be a little skittish after this ordeal, but you are a first-time rat owner, and you guys are just getting acquainted. The occasional setback is a pretty normal occurrence. Just go slowly, and move at his pace, rather than yours.

Is there a way you could relax a bit while interacting with him? Something that would allow you to sit down, while also giving him a little bit of room to retreat from you? Bathtubs and tabletops are good, and some people find that bathroom floors work well, too. Give him a box or tunnel within this small space, so that he can hide, but encourage him to interact with you.

Another option would be to use a playpen with walls tall enough that he can't jump out, and steep enough that he can't climb them. And it should be big enough for you to sit in there with him. Something like this.

u/tequila_mockingbirds · 1 pointr/RoverPetSitting

Would she consider a little portable pen (not to be mistaken for a crate) to place Kayla in? That way she's still in the one room with the others, but she has her space, still separated from Hallie.

something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Allisandro-Playpen-Portable-Outdoor-11-8x11-8/dp/B07PSHQ5PN/ref=sr_1_14?crid=1HEA2KJI5SXXI&keywords=pet+playpen&qid=1558667790&s=gateway&sprefix=proxy+spr%2Caps%2C199&sr=8-14 Inexpensive, keeps her separated and still safe.

You can buy a small animal playpen from amazon and have your bonding in there! I would suggest getting two if you plan on being in there with your hamster as well. Prevue Pet Products Multi Color Small Pet Playpen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S6BYWYQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_qVkMDb0P4WQ7Z
