My cousin had a shower for every kid. She has four. I was invited to the first one and brought [this] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0743224450/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=999UJX39RKF3&coliid=I229DK1OQILYJP), [this] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0762424915/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=999UJX39RKF3&coliid=I3NVUOR1RXEXLP), and [this'n.] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0061759570/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=999UJX39RKF3&coliid=I2S7SJAR3Q9ZWA). For some reason or another, I wasn't invited to any others. Didn't even get a thank you card like everyone else. And she used to be the snarky fun cousin before she had an "accident" to keep her man from leaving.

Lay Down Daddy Games

I got this book for my husband for Father's Day this year. We both get a kick out of it.

u/babydekuscrub · 15 pointsr/breastfeeding

lol there's a very accurate parody book of this, The Very Hungry Pregnant Lady, it sounds like it could use a sequel...

u/Hazcat3 · 12 pointsr/pics

But please, dogs in costumes has been done. Dress the human, leave the dog.

May I suggest:
Scene from the Fugitive just before doing a Peter Pan of the dam.
My Cousin Vinny something
Untouchables, put the human in the bad guy's white suit
Ferris Buhler's Day off, how about the float scene (let me know if these are getting too elaborate)

Confessions of the World's Best Father is a book where a dad did similar (though not film related) photos with his little daughter.

An author here in Ottawa (Jim) sells a book on Amazon called "Lay Down Daddy Games" (https://www.amazon.ca/Lay-Down-Daddy-Games-activities/dp/1983636339/). Basically, a bunch of games us dads play with our kids when we try not to do anything as much as possible.. like the Quiet Game, Stone Man, Don't Wake the Sleeping Giant, I'm Frozen, etc.

I figured the book would make a funny, and potentially useful, Father's Day gift. Maybe you could reach out to him and see if you can get some in a small bulk quantity instead of paying the retail cost. I have no idea what Amazon's cut is, but I imagine it's probably high.

Thanks for getting back so fast Ken! I found the book(Because I said so) I believe my mom purchased me the book because growing up she used that phrase often, and now its like a joke(I'm now 24)

Tonight, I start reading your book. Thank you!

The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy: Or Everything Your Doctor Won't Tell You?

I've read a couple of books about childfreedom (this one and this one aren't on your list), but I'd be more interested in regular books where childfreedom is portrayed positively within the story.

I suggest everyone go to amazon and listen to the audio version... Waaaaaaayyyyyy better than this penis terror.

As far as baby books go, may I suggest: What to expect when you're expected.

u/Prof_Brown · 3 pointsr/predaddit

My wife is also just over 8 weeks along (Due March 8th, 9th, or 10th, depending who you ask). We were trying, but it was still a bit unexpected when I found out (in both a good and panic kinda way). The worst part now is that the wife has a cold and can't take much to help her feel better. Normally she would be okay, but would be taking cough and congestion medicine.

As for worrying - I do it a lot. I spent many a night tossing and turning and worrying about stuff. I talk to my wife about it, which certainly helps, but mostly I'm a wreck. I have found out that physical activity helps a lot (running, biking, etc).

We've been to the doctor once, and everything was normal, but I won't be happy until this little person is born. That being said, I've been very happy with the book: She's Having a Baby, I'm having a breakdown to be very useful, informative, and like many other books, doesn't get me worked up over things.

Lastly, congrats!

Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas! :) Here are a couple things I liked in my planning:

  1. Wedding Planning for the Busy Feminist - Practical and funny and very useful day-of timelines. Also a great appendix of vendors, designers, etc. https://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Planning-Feminist-Amanda-Pendolino/dp/1980821887

  2. The Knot's Planning Binder - Great for organizing contracts and business cards, I liked their color swatches for choosing coordinating colors. https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Wedding-Planner-Organizer-binder/dp/0770433367

  3. Budget Savvy Bride Wedding Planner & Organizer https://www.amazon.com/Budget-Savvy-Wedding-Planner-Organizer-Checklists/dp/1623159857

  4. K Company Smash Book - My sister in law gave me this - a great place to collect all sorts of mementos as you're planning your special day! https://www.amazon.com/K-Company-30-659391-CompanySMASH-Wedding/dp/B007HONAV8/

I'm a fan of Man Vs. Child for the humorous book. Expectant Father and We're Pregnant are good for actual information. We're pregnant is great because it goes week by week in bite-sized chunks, great for people who don't consider themselves "readers."

Is this going to be anonymous? If not, ask to borrow her car one day. Say yours is in the shop. Fill it up with gas, wash it, change the oil, whatever you can afford to do.

If she has things on layaway, go pay them off.

These are mostly all monetary things, I know, but it sounds like she may be struggling a bit on that end.

Nominate her or put her name in for draws, raffles, anything. I know the radio stations here sometimes have a week where you can nominate someone awesome for whatever. This could be a good way to do things anonymously.

If you are close to the friend, you can do little things through her. Get her a gift certificate for something, have the friend say she won it and won't use it.

Good luck!!

Thanks! I definitely appreciate your input, but I am a slow reader and my sister-in-law already gave me this book which should give me everything I need. If I finish it and feel like I'm missing something, I'll checkout your rec.

So, my SO and I have kind of hit a rough patch in our life recently. Not in our relationship, but in life. Though we're making headway in rectifying it. I'd say the thing that bums me out the most is coming home to a dirty house and piles of laundry, and right now our house is filthy.

But, I do have lots of positives surrounding this time of year too so it's all good. My fiance just quit her job to follow her passion, and I just got a new job that I love. I'm on my feet most of the day and a bit of it is manual labor so I'm super happy. I come home, I'm exhausted, I've seen the fruits of my labor produced at the end of the day, and it's something I'm passionate about. It's not a career, but it's holding the fort down for now.

The thing that cheers me up the most is sitting down with my fiance, talking over a home cooked meal, enjoying (and reviewing) some scotches, beers, and other various palate pleasers, and looking back on how far I've come in life to get to this point. Even on my worst days now, I had worse in my past so these are a breeze(not really, they're still a bitch, but I guess a little easier to get through/over).

I want this book because after we get married (October 2016) I'll be on the fast track to /r/daddit and need all the help I can get haha :)

What to expect when you're expected.

I haven't read it, but it was on the Daily Show. Humor is always good. Congrats!

Wedding Planning for the Busy Feminist

The book is filled with practical, funny advice from real brides, grooms and vendors about how to plan your dream wedding on a budget. It's also an empowering survival guide that examines how modern women feel conflicted about outdated traditions and expensive social media fantasies but kinda want the perfect wedding anyway.

Paperback: $12.99 / Ebook: $8.99 / Also on Kindle Unlimited

My wife and I where exactly the same...but we didn't hold out for more than a few hours and we ended up telling our respective parents, even though we where cautious because of them (my mom had a miscarriage in the first trimester before I came along and my mom in law went to full term, only to loose her baby a few days after birth due to preeclampsia) and we waited till week 8 until we told our closest friends and after that the news just leaked, by the time our week 12 announcement came along a lot of people that "didn't know" already knew.

Maybe this book, that was recommended in this subreddit, will help you pass the time and start to prepare :)

I heard such great things about The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy, that when I found out about this pregnancy I ran to the bookstore to pick it up. I don't know if I just didn't understand her humor, but I hated it. I thought it was really condescending and though she claims she is no professional she generalized a lot. I personally did enjoy What to Expect when You're Expecting book, but I was told to completely skip the chapter on food, and that seems to be where a lot of the hatred from the book stems from. I'm currently reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and so far I like it a lot :)

u/thisismymoniker · 1 pointr/Parenting

I like the way these are written but you know your audience best.

Definitely want to stress on getting him out of the house once baby is vacinated. Even just walking around a mall can be a welcome break from being cooped up inside 24/7.

Also make sure he has some hobbies or something in the evening/weekends so he can do other stuff. Same goes for you, since you'll be working and parenting. Y'all will both need to remember you're individuals, not just parents/workers.

There's an awesome book (written by a comedian) called Raising the Perfect Child Through Guilt and Manipulation.

What a great read that is, let me just say. Oh man. =)

I used to lurk this sub back when I used the account more, so hey, why not? I wrote a short book (30,000) about how insane my mother is as part of the promotion to help me raise funds to get away from her.
