Why? For the glory of Satan, of course!

Since I figured there is no need for me to do a whole upgrade cycle (CPU, MBO, RAM, GPU) until there's a new generation of CPUs out and when I can afford to switch to complete 4k and/or 144Hz setup, I decided to brighten up my GPU a bit. Best way would be a liquid cooling solution, but since those are pricey, I found a nice alternative - Arctic Cooling aftermarket thingy made specificaly for the beast that is (was) my GTX 690.

Considering the (iron) price that was paid for the GPU, I figured that it wouldn't be a bad investment to keep it a bit colder in the coming years.

After a quick two hour process that is mounting this dual helicopter younglings on my GPU I started 3D Mark, HW Monitor and EVGA PrecisionX to redo the tests conducted before the upgrade... For science! First table is with the stock GPU on, the second one is with the Accelero Twin Turbo.

OC? | GPU1 | GPU2 | Load
---|---|----|----
No | 43°C | 36°C | Idle
No | 76°C | 67°C | 3D Mark
+104/274Mhz | 43°C | 36°C | Idle
+104/274Mhz | 77°C | 69°C | 3D Mark

OC? | GPU1 | GPU2 | Load
---|---|----|----
No | 27°C | 24°C | Idle
No | 62°C | 51°C | 3D Mark
+104/274Mhz | 30°C | 26°C | Idle
+104/274Mhz | 67°C | 56°C | 3D Mark

  • Idle temperature is down to almost the ambient temperature
  • Temperature under load is down ten to fifteen degrees Celsius
  • There is no more sound of incoming vaccum cleaner invasion every time the GPU decides to cool itself down

All in all, I'd give it a 5/7.

To add on to this and support it:

A faster hard drive is absolutely required. Do not get slow spin drives even if they make their simple appeals from low cost and high storage capacity. They will slow you down.

Furthermore, ASUS is a wonderful company and I trust their motherboards, peripherals, PCIe-x1 expansion cards, optical drives, and almost anything else.

What I hate are their Triple-thick graphics cards that put undue stress on the motherboard. Stay clear away from those things and run toward: XFX and EVGA. If you're going to go for the 6950 (Which I advise for staying cooler and quiet than a cross-fire setup), grab one of these.

What a benchode lol.

You know they literally sell the correct replacement fan and not just ebay but even on amazon.

This is the one for the zotac 1060:

This is the closest I could find in a good 1min30 or search.
It sure is expensive, but still less than a whole new card.

I'm sure you could find generic fans of the correct diameter to fit in there too.

I HAVE A FIX FOR YOU! I have a GTX 1080 with the same cooler and about a year ago one of my fans broke. Fixing it was pretty simple, I used this video: https://youtu.be/DAWWCXYKhoQ
And the fan I reaplaced it with was this: inRobert 87mm T129215SU Graphics Card Cooling Fan For ASUS STRIX GTX980Ti/R9390/RX480/RX580 Video Card Cooler (Fan-A) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BMSTL55/

This. See the three screws that mount the fan to the heat sink, OP? Take the fan off, measure the diameter of the fan, and find a replacement on eBay that matches the diameter and the plug type (there are two major types of plug for GPU fans that I've found, and conveniently if you pull the plastic socket off the board but leave the pins the plugs are sorta interchangeable.)

Bet you can fix it for under $10.

EDIT: Even with no fan attached, you can plug it into a computer and see if you can get into BIOS (please leave the heat sink on though.) it won't overheat instantly. If it puts an image on the screen without a ton of artifacting your GPU is probably fine.

EDIT 2: On closer inspection, that's a 4-pin PWM fan, not a two-pin dumb fan that I'm used to replacing on much older GPUs. Still, shouldn't be hard to find one. Heck, here's an example that will probably fit.

I found this on amazon https://www.amazon.com/PLD09210S12M-PLD09210S12HH-Graphics-1070Ti-1080Ti/dp/B07DW3874R but i think you could replace it with other fans that are better

Thank you so much for your suggestion and the info, is that what you're referring to ?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BSMFBCQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.zI3Bb2SVPG48

Seems like i have to repair the fan myself and forget about the RMA :(

u/giantfood · 1 pointr/techsupport

Never hurts to check, Do you have any pets? Dog and Cat hair are notorious for clogging up Heat sinks.

probably wouldn't hurt if its worrying you to get one of those Expansion slot fans like this one PCI Fan

Tho it is really not needed if you can get your temps back down other ways.

u/LegendaryFudge · 1 pointr/Amd

Maybe this?

u/TrusteeFly · 1 pointr/NiceHash

I agree with this but maybe you do eventually have one that needs replaced. Not sure the size of fan on the card you have but here is a gpu fan https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074S6RJLJ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B074S6RJLJ&pd_rd_wg=f7RbB&pd_rd_r=YJYRDK2NND1AP70JVAFD&pd_rd_w=NNCCd

Ok my stuff is jacked up right now it's saying I got 9 comments but I can't see any of them. So what do you guys think if I can resell my off whites for a good price I might just build another rig however until then this is what I chose.

Please shit all over it and tell me something better. My motherboard is also RGB controllable or whatever for the front radiator unless putting the radiator in the front is a huge no no even if you rig it so it exhausts out the up and out the front. Okay here are the things I've decided on just by glancing over every category.

Air coolers I saw ones that looked better and even had better specs but were only $20 also it seems like noctua is still pretty strong/on top but I don't know who's on top of the cpu cooling game. I'll be posting more soon or I'll just finish it quick. I'm assuming artic mx4 compound is best now or is it still the silver artic 5?

  1. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HPX7J4K/ref=psdc_11036281_t5_B00L7UZMAK
  2. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B12DQ38/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?pd_rd_i=B076KNKR73&pd_rd_wg=XY5On&pd_rd_r=VAR26GMWD450BQE9HFE4&pd_rd_w=TiNwH&th=1

Lastly don't laugh but i figured why not install this or are heatsinks on GPUs pointless even if I ran a liquid cooler/block? Yay or nay?

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IAAU6SS/ref=psdc_3015421011_t2_B07BQVT22F?th=1

Figured might as well slap this over the ram

    https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Airflow-Cooling-CMYAF/dp/B00GU9UG9A/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1526987839&sr=1-3&keywords=ram+cooler

So that leaves me with the final obvious issue of many, odds are a cpu cooler that big won't fit next to my 4 dimms so is it fine to have a 240mm radiator exhausting out the front of the case. Idk why I said radiator I mean the entire computer because it's just got about an inch glass space between the mesh and two fans.
u/clupean · 1 pointr/buildapc

I changed the computer case and tried to keep the black/red theme. The Manta has room for two liquid coolers: X31 for the CPU and G10 for the GPU (you need another X31). Black/Red G10 on Amazon UK.

your second list Looks really good, but I'm not sure yet about the graphics Card, i heard alot of the 270x, maybe i Switch the graphics Card. I saw once a Chart where they compared the 270x compared to the 660 Nvidia, where the 660 got stomped. Oh i thought bucks are Money.. Never heard of EVGA before, Google says that they make overclocking graphic Cards, but i havent found what makes them special compared to others, could you be more specific? but thanks for your time :)
