Available in Worf and Troi versions as well as Picard and Riker for a few bucks less.

Maybe get something like a room divider to hide the rig? That's just the first image I clicked on, I'm sure there are cheaper/better looking ones than that. Maybe put the rig in a corner or something and put one of those dividers around it to hide it a bit.

That bedspread could totally hook into a sorta Firefly-inspired "look". For the walls, choose either a steely grey(my preference), or a rich warm colour. Hang the Firefly posters up, and complete with some more Asian/Space-Cowboy -inspired decor. It would also work with the underbed lighting. Some ideas:

Mirrored Pillows Add a little bit of lux comfort to your bed.

Shoji Screen Could be used as a room divider, or as a headboard.

Maybe a pink/white/red color scheme?
I thought these laterns were kinda cute
1. 2. 3.

As for the blossoms maybe try layering different blossom motifs?
wall decals. My pick would be this.

If you're trying to save money DIY is going to be your best friend. You could string and hang cherry blossoms from the ceilings around doors and sprinkle petals on table tops 1. 2.

How about a mother daughter origami DIY project? Put these blossom branches in japanese vases on table tops? 1 2.

More DIY blossoms made from tissue paper here.

These are pretty inexpensive so maybe splurge a little and do a geisha lounge in the corner with borrowed coffee tables set up with table cloths and floor pillows serving japanese tea. These. would look really good to enclose it a little bit or as a backdrop to the cake or even an as a photoshoot area with ans. These are cute.
And above the lounge you could pick up cheap sheer fabric and tuck some twinkle lights above.

ok...first of all, lets take down the shelving and paint the walls and most importantly, the ceiling. Get some nice bright white paint and paint the ceiling and the trim the same color.

Then, choose a color you like for the walls. Maybe something like this

Once you have the walls and ceiling painted, wherever you need shelving...put up the closet wire shelving that you can purchase at lowes/homedepot. It will be bright white, clean, and while the wood shelves are sturdy, they just make it feel like a garage and not a laundry room.

Once that is done, I would change out the light fixture so that you get something new looking with unfaded glass. Doesn't have to be expensive. Its just a cheap way to make the room look fresh.

And finally, I would get some kind of panel to hide the water heater. Something like this so that you can put it in the corner and cover the water heater from being an eyesore

You might look at a shoji style screen. They can be small in height but do exactly what you want.

I freaking love your woodwork! Are you handy? Can you make privacy screens with wooden frames (stained to match the existing wood trim) with fabric panels?

Jealous of anyone who has absolute privacy in their backyard, deck or pool.

I'm in the suburbs with a 2nd story back deck and while there are many trees / large bushes giving partial privacy, it isn't completely 100% since some of my neighbor's homes have an eye-level view onto the deck from certain parts of their home. My backyard is almost private enough to be completely nude due to all the trees/bushes; maybe at night if there were no lights on but that does me no good (we don't have a pool or hot tub). I live in the Southeast so casual and social nudity, even sunbathing, is shunned and viewed as being wrong (or worse).

I have 5 of these privacy dividers for use on my back deck which I bought off of amazon. They work great except when it is windy since they only weigh 12-15lbs each so they can blow over easily. The privacy screens which only cover the bottom of the railing (like these ) don't work well because the neighbors homes are 3 levels so they can see directly onto the back deck from certain vantage points. The only way to create complete privacy on the back deck would be to build something like the below (either hard structure or outdoor curtains) to attach to the deck. I don't want to do either b/c then I've created a 'boxed in' deck.

  1. Using tension rods for clothes is never a good idea; you just don't know when it'll give out even if you're super careful with placing and removing hangers. I'd suggest getting pole sockets for a rod but you mentioned avoiding screwing into the wall. You could opt for something like a clothes rack instead.

  2. A tension rod and a decorative curtain would be great for covering shelves. Or you could use more than one set of rod/curtain for each of the shelves you want to cover. Or a room divider that doubles as a privacy screen.

Ah. I didn't realize you shared a bed. That does make the situation a bit more challenging. I can definitely sympathize with the woes of small-apartment living.

My brother once made a great semi-permanent fort for his kids by just nailing some strong string/cord to the walls, marking out a square several feet off the floor. He draped blankets over it. Couldn't have taken him more than 20 minutes, and I'm amazed I'd never thought of it. You could even make it easier to take down by installing some small hooks (the kind you'd find in the hardware section for a few dollars) instead of nailing the cords to the wall.

Ooo, or what about a curtain rod? You could easily block off a corner or partition a room that way in two seconds. I saw a corner one here. These gorgeous graphic curtains or something similar could really make you feel like you're in your own sanctuary. Or maybe a room divider tension rod kit? Or even a folding screen like this.

When you search "Scandinavian interiors" online you'll notice specific trends like:

  • white walls, black and grey accent pieces, small pops of color
  • wooden furniture in a natural wood finish or white
  • geometric shapes and lines, textured linens

I think this image is a great way to start. White walls, a low-profile light colored couch, an interesting geometric floor lamp, wooden coffee table with a geometric tic tac toe board, the pillows and fur throw add texture and look inviting, and lastly the art above the couch is low and coordinating in color so it looks cohesive.

In order to divide your living space from your bedroom you could try a translucent room divider like this <- it's not the prettiest one, but it gives you an idea of what I mean. It would divide the spaces but would still let plenty of light through both sides. Here are some better looking examples

What is it that you make? Are these things hang able? I can't tell from the picture and I'm on my phone. My mom did craft shows for years and years (she started when I was a tiny baby), and so I have some great ideas for vertical space. Are they going to be able to walk into your booth?

Edit: my mom used something like this with these kind of hooks. She also used a rack similar to this.

Some simple japanese style (which I think lets light through). Could also go with some solid panel ones. I've also seen people go to a habitat for humanity restore and pick-up old window shutters to make their own.

I think I can understand your layout, and you're right that it's a bit tricky.
Here's my suggestion. I know it's awkward to walk in and immediately see the bed, but it makes most sense to keep the living and dining areas next to each other. How many people do you need to seat at the dining table? 1? 2? 4? If possible, I'd suggest using backless stools as the seats for the dining table. That way you can push them all the way under the table when not in use. Do you plan on buying new items or thrifting?

The corner desk has got to go. I'd say the Ikea Micke is a good bet for you space-wise.
There are like zillions of different styles of room dividers if you want one to screen the bed from the living area. You mention curtains but I didn't actually see any windows?

Instead of soundproofing the entire room you can try to create a smaller sound cushioned area around your mic with a room divider, something like this, with soundproofing foam on it. It's not perfect but it's fairly cheap and easy.
