Probably this: https://www.amazon.com/Powerfoot-Hockey-Skate-Performance-Insert/dp/B01A9EMLR6

I ordered on yesterday. Also ordered Bauer 2.0 feet inserts.

I get that they have a certain amount of functionality, but they are so obnoxious on the ice. I'd avoid them unless you're ok with the spotlight as you loudly carve the ice up. If you're worried about sharpenings, invest in sharpening stone and give your blades 3-6 passes before or after every skate to extend the life of sharpenings.

Skate Fenders are really nice to have and not part of the default gear load-out.

An accessory bag (something like this) is really useful for keeping small loose stuff like tape, wax, honing stone, extra laces, etc contained instead of rattling around in your bag.

A Boot Dryer is great for after the game keeping your skates and gloves from getting nasty and helping them last longer.

Air Freshner/odor absorber for the bag. Especially if you dont air your gear out. Even something as small and simple as these can help a lot.

A multi-tool. Doesn't have to be fancy or expensive. Just something to tighten up loose screws with, cut tape or torn bits of gear, and maybe occasionally open a bottle with.

EZeefit booties help, jam straps help, there are awesome these AWESOME toe inserts I use that snug my toes in: https://www.amazon.com/Powerfoot-Hockey-Skate-Performance-Insert/dp/B01A9EMLR6

Yeah, it's probably because the tongue has lost its fluffiness and is breaking down. Aside from replacing the tongue, you can buy gel lacebite pads that velcro to the back of the tongue to alleviate the pressure. Most skates shops should have them, but they're available on amazon too.

Hope this helps.

Hello! I am a girl so I am normally a size 7/8 shoe and I am a size 3 skate. The toe box has a bit of space but I plan on using powerfoot. (https://www.amazon.com/Powerfoot-Hockey-Skate-Performance-Insert/dp/B01A9EMLR6) to cover the bit of extra space. Definitely swing by your shop and get fitted. My toes brush the end lightly and it feels perfect on the ice!

u/TwoBallsagna · 2 pointsr/hockeyplayers

Good point. My current skates need toe caps as they were too tall in the toe. These have a world of difference.

Adrenaline Design Powerfoot

These are a skaters dream for a loose toe box. All my skates have them.

Yeah that's not going to work. Since it's now metal on metal. You need a Teflon chain lube, non stick, you can get it at a skateboard shop or sports store like dicks near the hockey stuff. I would upgrade. You need something like this. You just pop off the ring clean it dry, lube.. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ZHF6QQ/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_YI0mzbNCXMD70

Have you tried one of these?

u/BurntPaper · 2 pointsr/hockeyplayers

Seems like you have it mostly covered. I got the Concept 3 (I liked it a lot better than the Hybrid) and it came with a protective bag. But a shirt would work fine as long as it's thick enough and it'll actually stay on.

I bought THESE, and they do seem to help with fogging a bit, though the main advantage is less sweat dripping into my eyes.

Another concern is water, though your Hybrid will be a lot easier to drink with than my Concept. Problem I've seen is people with stubby water bottle tips (Like the standard Gatorade bottles) have a hard time drinking through the slots. Just make sure you have something with a straw (I have the 90 degree bend squeeze bottles) or you're prepared to drench yourself occasionally if you squirt it through the bars and miss. Otherwise you're unclipping your straps every time you want to drink.

Edit: This is what came with my Concept. Might be worth it if you don't want to mess around with a shirt, or risk having your helmet come out.

Things you can try -

u/jseego · 1 pointr/hockeyplayers

Yes, they are very cheap and without them your skate bladess will definitely get banged up. You can use the elastic kind like these and they're fine.

If she's part of a skating club, maybe a club jacket? Google around for contact information for the skating club near you. They'll be able to give you info on how to order a jacket.

USFSA now has semi customizable jackets in their online store.

The "fancy" kids at my rink all use the Rockerz skate guards. I'd say the majority are still in Guard Dogs

Gloves. We're always losing gloves.

Ice time- maybe the rink has a punch card for ice sessions.

Have you checked out the local pro shop? Maybe they do gift certificates for skate sharpening or something.

Do some research- maybe Disney on Ice or the new Cirque du Soleil ice show is close enough to you that tickets would be a good gift.

Have you been to the rink during one of her skating sessions? Look around and see what the other people have that your GF doesn't.

A kiss and cry bag to hold tissues, water bottle, music, etc rinkside is really popular some places.

These pants are popular.

I use this thing I guess it doesn't really sharpen the skates, but it takes all the burs and nicks off and after three swipes my skates feel really sharp.

I can usually skip a few skate sharpenings by using it, it holds me over when I forget to get them done or lose an edge.

There is also the edge again which is like a portable hand held sharpener which I think is also not a full substitute for skate sharpening.

Your last option is to get your own sharpening machine and offer your services to others.

u/funkyb · 1 pointr/hockeyplayers

A sweet stick, or some other similar sharpening tool.

Insoles for your skates. I really like the ccm ones I have.

Extra skate laces (especially if you want waxed ones)

Cup/jock with Velcro for holding up your socks

Suspenders for your pants

If you use a cage, I highly refined one of the hybrid cages Bauer (I think?) makes. I love mine. Make sure you get the right size though...

Glove palm repair kit(s)

Socks (like over the shin guards hockey socks)

Moisture wicking socks (like on your feet thin socks)

Bearings and wheels if you play roller.

Alright, makes me not so nervous about the overall fit anymore, your help is much appreciated.

I'm seeing them at ~$8 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Elite-Hockey-Prolace-Waxed-Skate/dp/B004R6VACA/ref=sr_1_3?crid=ICWD1LQ71C78&keywords=elite%2Bhockey%2Bwaxed%2Blaces&qid=1556864489&s=gateway&sprefix=Elite%2BHockey%2Bwax%2Caps%2C251&sr=8-3&th=1&psc=1), where are you seeing them at that price? May just be looking at the wrong ones on my end or since I don't have a store nearby.

u/_QUAKE_ · 1 pointr/rollerblading

Awesome!

Do you miss ankle support?

Also, you're welcome

u/clipper377 · 1 pointr/hockeyplayers

I've been playing in these for a while:

https://smile.amazon.com/Skate-Fender-Pro/dp/B005RSHOPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500576116&sr=8-1&keywords=skate+fenders

Doesn't really change my skating style, and it's an extra something between the puck and your skate. I've taken two pucks off of them (but to be fair, no serious clap bombs) and it does seem to make a difference. Seemed to spread out the impact and deaden the impact some. Wish the velcro straps were a little neater, they seem kinda cheap.

70 bucks and some ribbing in the locker room or an ER visit and a few weeks off. No brainer for me.

My son used to skate barefoot and his skates were SO GROSS. I tried everything to make them smell better but nothing helped. When he switched to a different type of boot, it was no longer comfortable to skate barefoot.
He wears these socks now. Says the seam isn't bothersome like the Mondor socks. Plus they look cooler than the basic tan socks.

For my mids, I use these figure skate laces I found on amazon: A&R Sports Figure Skate Laces, White, 63-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C3H5YQS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_Xxgvzb2FM2S33

u/bkrassn · 1 pointr/rollerblading

I'm going to stick with the stock size for awhile. I believe they are 100's right?

Are these the kind of laces I should be getting? https://www.amazon.com/Elite-Hockey-Prolace-Waxed-Skate/dp/B00VEEW4LO/

It says 130". I don't think you mean 177mm, but I'm confused what size you do mean.

Wipe the blades off immediately after skating and store them in soakers at all times: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000N82DU4/ref=twister_B000N839TS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The blades will start to rust very quickly if you're not careful to keep them bone-dry. Pay careful attention to where the blades screw into the bottom of the skate. You want to wipe the entire skate off until dry.

As soon as you get home, take your skates out of the bag and let them breath to dry out the insides.

It's also good to wear hard guards on your skates anytime you are not on the ice. Hard guards come in a million different color choices. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MBW4K6/ref=twister_B000MBUXEA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I put my hard guards on before I even put my skates on. Then I take them on and off as I enter and exit the ice. This will keep your blades sharper for longer and protect them from the tiny grit and dirt from the floor you walk on.

DO NOT store your skates in hard guards. They will definitely rust. Always store them in the soakers.

This is the best way to prolong the life of your skates and blades.

Also, get your skates sharpened when you start to have trouble staying on your edges. You don't want to sharpen them too soon, since that wears the blade down faster, but you do need them sharpened often enough that it doesn't affect your ability to skate well. Right after they've been sharpened, you will feel wobbly until you get used to it again.

Those skates will probably start to break down after you've used them for a year or so. Especially if you start doing freestyle classes. Jumps and spins exert much more force on the skates than just simple Basics classes. Your bodyweight will also play a role in how fast the skates break down. The heavier you are, the more stress the skates are under.

Yes it is! They're extreme walking soakers, perfect for getting dressed in the car and walking to the pond
