Hey Janey,

First, let me thank you for the kind words. Second, I truly like your handwriting. The 'f' especially jumps out at me, you've added a distinctive elegance to that letter. Yes, looking at your writing again and again, I like it very much.

You asked about practice, so...I write all the time. I carry a work journal in which I document my day. I practice writing different peoples names a lot. Not to copy their signature, but to practice different letter combinations. And, let's face it, some people just have really pretty names when written. My version of doodling is writing different words or names in a little steno book or on a legal pad.

The pen is a Lamy Safari, the ink is Lamy brand as well. There are better fountains on the market, but I really like the simplicity of the Lamy Safari. It's durable and simple.

In my earliest posts, I was writing on Crane & Co. sheets. It's a linen paper which I use when I write letters. It takes a bit of practice though, because the ink bleeds if you don't hold the pen just so and write fast enough. Lately, I've been using Office Max Multi-Purpose paper for my notes here on reddit. It holds the ink, doesn't bleed too much, and photographs well under my desk lamp.

I think that's about it! I'd love to see more of your handwriting in the future, keep using it! It's slowly fading as they don't even teach it to kids anymore...

I believe Rapid Pros use a Parker style refill. If you could post a picture of the refill that would be helpful. I'd be especially interested in the rear of the refill to see if it has a clicky mechanism on it or not. If it is a Parker style, you can use this Parker refill. It says "fine" but comments seem to indicate that it is actually a .8mm. There is also this Schmidt refill which seems to be finer, but maybe of lesser quality. I have not used the Schmidt.

Looks like a Muji fountain pen. If that is the case standard international ink cartridges will work. Probably not at most office supply stores but you can get them from Amazon or Anderson Pens or Goulet Pens. Good luck

On mobile so no formatting but try these

I recently found my old fountain pen in a drawer and I was wondering if there's any place I can buy this type of ink. I found some on Amazon but I don't know if it would still work in an older pen such as mine. It also has a small ball inside of the cartridge so I don't know if that's so necessary or not. Any help or info on the pen itself would be greatly appreciated.

edit: Here's the cartridges I found, would these work? https://www.amazon.com/Cross-Fountain-Cartridge-Refills-Cartridges/dp/B004HE7IVO

I use the uniball signo impact 207 at work. It's similar to this, but when you go to clip it to your shirt it activates the spring and automatically sheathes the tip. It's pretty dope.

Heres the link for anyone interested:

If you want to keep using the pen, you will need to get a washable ink and one of the little pens that can erase ink mistakes. Used them a lot in Germany. Pretty sure Lamy makes both items available.

Edit: this stuff

try this one. I used the blue-black nice in-between black and blue.

I use the Monteverde Capless Ceramic Gel Refill in both a Parker Duofold and a Montblanc Meisterstück ballpoint and they work fine. Highly recommend Monteverde.

Hey, I'll get a bit of flak for this, but if they're too expensive there are cheaper options. On Amazon and eBay, there's a brand called Jinhao, which is a nice Chinese pen. They're not perfect, but they are really good for a first pen. You can get these and quite a bit of ink for not even fifteen bucks: Example Pen Example Ink

With the g-2, you gotta mod that sucker with some
mont blanc pen refill.

Energel sky blue is a very nice medium blue that's blue. I use the 0.7 needle tip. Very smooth and pretty. Dries fast but is not thin.

Try the .5 needle point or maybe Sarasa blue fine though I haven't tried sarasa blue so not sure how blue it is.

OP doesn't know how to use Amazon. OP, there are 73 sellers selling that product on Amazon.ca. Click on "73 new from CDN$ 0.70". The very first listing shows a seller in Toronto who will ship the item to you for 70¢ + $6.98.

Do not just accept the first offer Amazon puts in front of your face when you search for an item. They do that to trick you into paying too much.

People need to stop complaining about Amazon.ca if they don't even know how to use it.

I have a hard time believing those pens cost much to produce.

Take for example Mont Blanc.

The pens retail for $300-$1000 http://www.montblanc.com/en-us/collection/writing-instruments.filter.html?&filters=2019618787

Yet the functional writing part costs $15 to replace twice http://www.amazon.com/Blanc-Refills-Rollerball-Point-Black/dp/B00007FJZ0

Even if these were CNC lathed alloys, which is about as fancy as manufacturing gets, I don't see them costing more than say $20 each from a CNC shop, and then gold coating a lot of several hundred pieces this size costs around $1000 at a plating shop (assuming the gold is dissolved and electrochemically bonded, and not solid gold, which it isn't, because that would be heavy and cost more than $1000) , so my guess is a few dollars of gold.

Barclays probably signed a deal with the maker and gets them very cheap.

It's all marketing psychology, I guess. People see a high price, meaning only rare people can get it, and then they want it more.

That link doesn't really work for me. There's one pack of cross at the top then a bunch of parker style refills.

This is what you meant to link I think.

u/mtsyport , Those unscrew down the middle and you can see what's in it currently. Lefty-Loosey.

If you love the pilot G2s, then you could frankenstein an awesome pen. I found out about it about a week ago, and just got the refills in to make it work today.

If you get some Mont Blanc rollerball refills, and trim the butt down just a bit, it fits perfectly in a G2. I bought these refills, and love them.

Otherwise, I also love the Pilot Precise V5 pen like /u/Super_Human.

u/pinkaardvark · 1 pointr/fountainpens

There's this.

I can't tell you about the quality because I haven't tried it. You'd also need to make sure your pens take standard international cartridges.

u/QueenElizabitch1 · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

currently but I'm also very partial to Precise pens. I haven't gotten into the fountain pen game yet, unfortunately. It is on the horizon though.

u/X207Blitz · 1 pointr/mechanical_gifs

Starter: Lamy Safari with some cartridges.

I have this pen at work and use cartridges rather than a converter to save time and prevent potential catastrophes of filling them. If you like the fountain pen in the GIF, TWSBI Vac 700, should be a great second starter or you can get a converter; just know you'll need bottled ink.

My favorite ink right now is Pilot Iroshizuku, lines are clean for most of my foutain pens, it dries decently fast and is easy to clean out of the pen aswell.

u/nusm · 1 pointr/pens

If it's the Parker rollerball refill that looks like this, I'm afraid that you may be out of luck. Monteverde usually makes different colors of some proprietary refills, but even they only have a blue, black, and blue/black (dark blue). I couldn't find red, green, or any other color on Amazon, JetPens, eBay, or through a Google search.

Your only other option would be to try and hack a different refill into it, but I'm not sure what would fit. Maybe get a few different ones, along with some spacer material (like a chopstick you could cut up) to lengthen refills or an Xacto knife to cut pieces off of refills and experiment.

OK, since my post a few minutes ago, I have been doing some searching, and I did find a few. Look on Amazon for "Ink Eradicator."

http://www.amazon.com/Lamy-Ink-Eraser-And-Overwriter/dp/B008FNNLOQ/

EDIT: Here's another one:

http://www.shopwritersbloc.com/pelikan-ink-eradicator-super-pirat-set.html

To use this effectively, you'll have to get a pen that uses a washable ink of the correct color. The German students I remember used fountain pens with ink designed for this use. The eraser end of the marker I linked above will erase mistakes, and the marker end has an ink that is permanent and will not be eliminated by the eraser fluid.

u/shiraz410 · 1 pointr/fountainpens

Music nibs are just extra wide stub nibs. IIRC the FC Music nib is only 1.9mm so if you have a Lamy pen that isn't the 2000, you can go on amazon and buy a 1.9mm for like $11 which is like 66% cheaper than the FC counterpart.

Edit: My bad the nib is $13.25 but still 60% cheaper than the FC counterpart on Amazon. Hope this helps!

u/kipthunderslate · 1 pointr/pens

I don't believe you can get the F-701 in blue, but this refill will fit it, if you're interested.

u/GoodHandwriting_y · 1 pointr/Handwriting

The Lamy Safari, with its various width in nibs.

Less than $30, even, on Amazon. The pen with a 1.5mm italic nib .... . A 1.8mm nib isn't much more separately.

u/HeatR216_AF · 1 pointr/pens

Just tried these: 1 and 2 that I have in other pens and they are too short.

u/mslindz · 1 pointr/fountainpens

Did it come with a cartridge or ink?

I'm not certain (as I am new to fountain pens), but could the maker mean these Cross Fountain Cartridges? If so, maybe one of these converters will work: screw style or push in style. Or perhaps this universal converter? If that doesn't help, I'd be contacting the maker for more information. Best of luck!

u/Jaksongitr · 1 pointr/EDC

Amazons got a 3 pack for like 15 bucks
Edit: sorry it took so long but here's a link

u/robertgfthomas · 0 pointsr/gadgets

Nah, it's similar to one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0081SYC3O/ref=twister_B00A4ND8PC

I tried using just a regular short pen, but it seemed to just get in the way more than anything. With this one everything lies flat nicely.
