From the information provided, we can probably get you out of this mostly unscathed. For starters, I don't think you have to worry about any damage to the internal components. The keyboard on the Yoga 920 has precisely one trillion screws affixing it to the chassis, and the gaps which could lead to the motherboard are minimal. That being said, there is still a pretty good chance that your keyboard is fugged. There is a very small chance that one of the fans needs cleaning as well.

So we have two options here:

  1. yolo and turn the thing on after letting it sit for a good chunk of time so that maybe any water inside dries and doesn't short the motherboard when you turn it back on. Then try the keyboard to see if it's working.

  2. preemptively take the notebook apart (this is not as scary as it sounds - computers are essentially just adult legos) and let it air dry, which will let you manually inspect the motherboard for any spillage and clean it. This is also a good opportunity to check the fan and do any cleaning that needs to be done. Once you're confident that everything is dry, reassemble it, boot it up, and test the keyboard.

If the keyboard doesn't work, you'll have to take the laptop apart (or take it apart again, if you already did it in step 2, and replace the keyboard.

I highly recommend getting this iFixit kit if you're going to take the notebook apart.

As for disassembling the laptop, this is a pretty good guide on this exact model:

It's your hard drive flex cable. Guarantee if you mount those drives to another machine there'll be no issues.

Here's the part you need. it's literally two screws once you take the bottom case off. Dead easy.

Unfortunately, this is most likely not a software issue, but the first indication of heat-damage to your keyboard. Your damaged keyboard will start working again (to some extent) after the 30m to hour wait because the contacts are expanding from heat.

I've had the same problem with a couple of high-end Clevo laptops in the past, and replacing the keyboard was the only solution. I learned my lesson about continually recompiling UnrealEngine without having my laptop on a cooler. :)

Thankfully, multi-color rgb Clevo keyboards are cheap and easily replaceable (only requiring the removal of two back screws and five minutes to change out). I'm guessing it wont be much more difficult for a Dell, and new keyboards look just as inexpensive ($35). https://www.amazon.com/KBR-Replacement-Keyboard-Compatible-Backlit/dp/B07V1TFLXP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa

You can buy keyboard stickers ([example]).

If the laptop has a qwerty version and that has the same layout (same number and size of buttons)* then it should be possible to buy a keyboard ([example]) and replace it / have it replaced.

*correction: the keyboard just has to fit into the laptop, it can be any layout etc. as long as it is for that specific make and model.

The charging port is pretty easy to replace. The most common piece that breaks is the little plastic flange that screws into the hinge. That lets the port get pushed too far inside the laptop, resulting in the AC adapter not getting fully connected. The replacement port/cable is about $8 on amazon. Just be sure to get the right version. Check the little tag on yours, to see if it is an X200 or X300.

If you have a USB-C charger, you could always use that in the meantime, while you wait for the part to arrive from amazon.

On the subject of charging ports, I am far from an apple fanboy or anything, but I have to give them credit for their magnetic charging port. It is leagues ahead of dell's crappy barrel connector shit.

The search won't know which items are important in the search query. There is a slider in the search results that lets you narrow down or expand the results. If you narrow it down, then things like order of words and placement of words in the results start to matter. When you expand it, it will loosen the requirements to match.

This looks like the item you wanted. It wasn't in my database, which explains why you couldn't find it in the results. Unlike stores like TigerDirect, Newegg, etc, Amazon doesn't provide a complete list of all products. So the only way I know about an item is if someone searches for it, or uses the browser extension and PZ can't locate it. PZ then asks Amazon for the item and adds it. So the more useage the site gets, the more complete the database becomes.

Currently just over 3.5 million Amazon products btw.

When you replaced the hard drive, did you do a clean install of the OS, or a clone from the old drive? If you didn't do a clean install, I would try that, as it's possible that there was data corruption preventing the boot from completing that was carried over to the new drive.

If replacing the hard drive and doing a clean install didn't fix it, the most likely issue is a bad hard drive cable, which is a common issue on the pre-retina MBPs. I would try replacing that next.

Joined Reddit just to post this comment. After doing tons of research prior to purchasing an M15 R1 I found this topic of the missing cable/caddy thing to be without a solid answer or resolution. I've seen comments of mixed results with people calling Dell and getting the parts ordered. I have yet to see anyone confirm purchase of parts outside of Dell.... which is where I took a leap of faith with Amazon.

My M15 arrived with 2 1TB SSD drives on the 60whr battery configuration and an empty HDD area in the chassis. I didn't get a cable or anything to mount a 2.5 drive in the laptop despite having the space. I found the cable on Amazon here, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V84PV2W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and figured I'd risk $40 to test it out... to my surprise it actually worked. Seller provided the correct cable and I managed to connect a spare 2.5 1TB WD Blue SSD into the M15. The only issue I had was not having a caddy tray to secure the hard drive so I used a spare from another laptop and with some creativity I was able to rig a mount to hold the drive in place. Not the most ideal configuration but I can confirm it's at least possible to have (2) NVME SSD and (1) 2.5 SSD connected to the M15 using the cable from the Amazon link. If anyone can locate the actual caddy/tray that'd be great.

I also tried to install an 2.5" SSD ( Samsung Evo 1tb ) with a cable from Amazon that said it was for a Envy X360 and it fit perfectly. Problem is it was not seen anywhere. Not by the Bios, Windows or the Sansung disk manager. Not visible anywhere. I even updaed the BIOS. Bad cable? This was the cable: https://www.amazon.com/Deal4GO-Connector-M6-AQ005DX-M6-AQ003DX-450-07K06-0001/dp/B07MYCCCTG . As I said, it fit perfectly..just didn't work. I put the SSD in a caddy and formatted as well. The drive is fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It may be that (about 15% sure) the melting incident somehow damaged the charging port and now it does not make firm contact to the center ID pin, thus sometimes it recognizes the charger and sometimes it doesn't.

Luckily charging port replacements are really cheap. The product code for your charging port part should be on a sticker around the cable leading to the port, like you can see in this listing. To search for the part, you want the XXXXX part of the CN-0XXXXX-BLABLA text.

Some other comment is that you don't need to remove the battery, just disconnect it from the motherboard, no need to search for screwdriver. Same as this port, if you order it, it's a plug-in part, so before removing parts from the laptop, you can just plug the new port into the motherboard and check if the charger is consistently being recognized.

Hey everyone! I'm back for more help with Mastering out my HP stream mini 200-010.

Specs for the Little Guys Base Model I'm still working mostly with

So I've upgraded the First SSD. I've got my eye on some nice DDR3l ram.

Whats bothering me is that a lot of the upgrade guides suggests an HDD for the second drive (which the HP stream mini does have a rack slot for).

The suggested piece is This Little Beauty here. Connected to the board via Cutey of a cord

Now, while I don't have a problem with this (my tower has a split SSD/HDD going on), an Idea came to mind. Why Do I want an HDD and not another SSD? Im pretty sure That would be awesome, save my little Buddy some heat and power draw. So I would like if my fellow PC builders could suggest a Similarly priced SSD with the same (or more) amount of Space and, Cost around the same as the suggested upgrade that can also fit into this tiny things Drive rack.

Repost, Are my amazon links better now?

TLDR. Im looking for a reliable 2.5-Inch 7mm internal SSD with Around 500gb for around 40 bucks. Plus its ribbon cord.

Typically the latitude keyboards tend to be more noisy in the non backlit models vs the backlit options. She could try replacing it with a backlit option but there's no guarantee it's going to be all that much more silent for this sort of usage case.

Looking online seems to suggest the E6410 is much the same.

Sourcing the components

Ebay is an option - http://www.ebay.com/bhp/dell-e6400-backlit-keyboard

Amazon no fuss returns also - https://www.amazon.com/WX4JF-Latitude-Backlit-Laptop-Keyboard/dp/B00UX3BSSM/

You can certainly get them for about 拢20 (~$25) as I've done this before for a previous Latitude I owned.

Okay so this board actually has the wifi and bluetooth built in, sadly for you it's an Intel chipset which means it absolutely wont work on Mac and there's zero ways you can get it to work, nobody has ever managed to do it with any Intel chipset.

Even worse this integrated Wifi + bluetooth chipset takes up one of your free M.2 slots on the motherboard, so you wont even be able to add one that actually works without removing your M.2 hard drive or going back to old fashioned SATA. People are moaning about it on the Hackintosh forums LOL:

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/new-gigabyte-z370n-no-more-wifi-support.235348/

Much better to buy another motherboard with free slots and add the wifi and bluetooth chip yourself, that way if you ever upgrade or Apple decides to drop support for it you can just buy another cheap $15 chip from Amazon, rather than having to build an entire new PC, especially since you want it to last a while.

This is the one most recommended in the community.

It's literally Apple spec so you just plug it in and play, zero messing with drivers, kexts, DSDT's and other nightmares that happen. It will also allow you to use cool things like iMessage, iCloud, Handoff, Airdrop, Apple Store and other things third party adapters might not play nicely with (if at all).

This one is also pretty popular too, but it's not as easy as the last I linked.

u/zjibben 路 1 pointr/buildapc

Cool! I think this could be a rather painless upgrade for you.

Edit: Maybe not quite as painless as I thought. I just decided to check..is this your motherboard? It doesn't look like a standard size (further research reveals it is a Micro BTX), and you might have a hard time finding a case that fits it. If so, there are cheap motherboards (alternative) out there. If you need a new motherboard and case, you might even consider a mini-ITX mobo (alternative) and case for a very small build that'll still fit a large GPU.

tl;dr: At this point, I would say you can either get another small form factor GPU, or a larger GPU with a new case and likely a new motherboard since it looks like your current is a weird size..

I know it doesn't list your model explicitly but for 20 bucks it might be worth to try.
