It's a lint trap.

https://www.amazon.com/Washing-Machine-Premium-Rustproof-Stainless

They make different kinds but you should remove it and either clean out (with a hose outside) or replace it.

You could also use something that sits in the drain of the utility tub(sanitary sink).

Something like this might work as it should not have the risk of overflow.

I try not to hug/hold/pet my cat when I'm about to go somewhere, but getting cat hair on clothing seems to be an inevitable side-effect to owning a cat. I've always had pretty good success with [3M's lint rollers] (http://www.amazon.com/3M-836R-OS-Lint-Roller/dp/B00006IA8Q). I keep one of the [Mini 3M lint rollers] (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Mini-Lint-Rollers-Pack/dp/B0000AQNOG/ref=pd_sim_121_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51zEp0xDVJL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0XX22FQ35XCHYWGDZFZY) in my desk at work for emergencies.

ETA - Just came across these "peel and pat" lint removing sheets -- [LintUps] (http://www.minimus.biz/LintUps-Sheets-J01-0459001-8000.aspx). You have to buy a whole case of them on Amazon, but minimus.biz sells them individually.

It's a basic version of one of these lint shaver things to get lint and fuzz off your clothes.

u/ecosystems · 8 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Its possibly a garment brush for removing pet hair and fuzzies

You run it over your clothes and then pull the stuff off and put it in the trash.

I was thinking of something like this

  • Was the black stuff fuzz or some kind of residue?
  • Does this person have a dry erase board nearby?

  • If you ran your hand across the fabric was it like going against the grain one way, but smooth the other way?
u/kingsloi · 7 pointsr/ZeroWaste

Yes, absolutely! I’ve been using them for my clothes and sofas. I’m not sure on their name, but I recently picked up some from Menards as a travel kit. They use static electricity to pick up and hold the lint and putting it back in its sheeth, cleans it (so you can collect it) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DF316EC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_P-AvDbDXPY0G9

I have a fabric shaver that I use on everything. I bought this one on Amazon years ago and it works great. It takes two AA batteries. I love it.

u/queenbeluga · 5 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I have this pill shaver and it works great. I did accidentally put a hole in a pair of old sweatpants when I first got it, and from that I learned that you really only need to liiiightly kiss the fabric with the shaver in order to take the pills off. Literally no pressure at all and only the lightest contact with the fabric. Even then I would probably use this comb over my shaver on my expensive/drapey fabrics.

I feel your pain. I have two orange cats and no orange clothes to match. My best advice would be to try and make note of what clothes attract the hair more than others (for example, I have one pair of yoga pants that attract cat hair like a magnet). Now I don't buy clothes based on this, but it helps me keep in mind what clothes are higher maintenance (and then I generally wait and put these items on right before I leave the house). For example I have a black wool jacket always picks their hair up. It only hangs in my closet, I put in on right as I'm leaving, and it hangs back up as soon as I get home.

Also, buy a big pack of the smaller lint rollers. Always have one in the car and one at work.
If you have clothes that are always troublesome, or that you need to keep nice (e.g, cocktail dress, business suit) I love using garment bags for in the closet. On the same note, keep your dry cleaning in the bag until you wear in next. Kinda makes me think of American Psycho but those bags sure keep the fur away.

u/DanIsTheBestEver · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

It might be worth it to invest 30 bucks in one of these.
https://www.amazon.com/House-Wonderful-Electric-Sweater-Curtains/dp/B0114OV6TE/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1536537647&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=pill+remover+for+fabric

Sure you could get one you have to plug in for half price but if you're anything like me it will be too annoying it use on the reg. I save tons by keeping everything I wear pill free. The fabric stays fresh and last a long time.

u/thatsnepallfolks · 3 pointsr/ZeroWaste

I have one of these that works well to clear up all the dog hair: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QQW5ISA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/mimefrog · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I use this and it works really well.

I took the sections apart (in hind site I could have left it together) and used a dryer Vent brush kit. Then sucked out whatever was left with the shopvac. https://www.amazon.com/Holikme-Cleaning-Remover-Extends-Synthetic/dp/B07TWFJQWH/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=Dryer+Vent+brush&qid=1570307309&sr=8-5

u/kaliforniska · 2 pointsr/homemaking

This has been my holy grail.

u/peony_chalk · 2 pointsr/ZeroWaste

There's the Cora Ball, but it's just as expensive and I don't know if it works as well. (It also seems like it would be more annoying to clean it out -- one of the reviews on their home page mentions using tweezers!)

There are devices you can attach to your washing machine drain hose that are supposed to catch lint and fibers. I think they're mostly marketed to people with septic systems, but they range from significantly cheaper than a Guppyfriend to significantly more expensive than a Guppyfriend.

u/sure_man_ok · 2 pointsr/Outlier

I use this fabric shaver. You could probably also use an electric shaver or even scissors (if your careful).

u/coffeekittie · 2 pointsr/knitting

The image isn't showing. It says it's set to private. There it goes!

I used Shine for an Anouk dress, no pilling or shedding even after several washes. I would definitely call Knit Picks and tell them about it. While it's too late for them to fix it, you might be able to get a refund/credit?

You can try using conditioner, I've never done it but supposedly that helps. Washing it cold/gentle cycle will also help. Obviously gentle hand washing would be better. Also, they sell those electric "de-pillers" that can be used for the worst of it.

u/sxzxnnx · 2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

The orange things are mini-lint combs. Similar one on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Fuzz-Sweater-Clothes-Remover-Shaver/dp/B001UAIPYM

I have a tubshroom and this lint trapper, and my wife swears the lint trapper works so much better. You need vertical space for it though

I've had a septic tank for 18 years and never had a problem. So long as you keep to a few common sense rules, it's something you can basically think about every few years and have an inspection done.

  • If the house has a garbage disposal, get rid of it. putting food waste down the drain is one of the worst things you can do for the tank. You'll find that you don't even miss it...just toss waste in the trash instead of the drain.
  • put as little grease down the drain as possible. again, once you get in the habit, you won't even miss it. Just scrape/wipe into the trash, then wash.
  • no "flushable" wipes ever. these things are murder on regular sewer systems (will probably be banned soon), and are a disaster for your septic tank. If you want to use them put a small trash can next to the toilet to toss them in, it's no big deal.
  • Don't bother with septic tank additives, you don't need to add pro-biotics to your tank. You couldn't stop the natural bacterial action if you wanted to. but it won't hurt if you need a little placebo.
  • use as little laundry soap/bleach as possible. it's ok to use 'some', but ask yourself "does this really need bleach" as a habit.
  • don't wash paint or chemicals into the system
  • If you're REALLY concerned, you can buy a washing machine drain filter like this that cuts down on the clothing fibers that get into the septic tank.

basically, the rule of thumb is if it's not water or human waste, it shouldn't go into the septic system.

I've heard of these things. Not sure how effective these are.

I use a brass wire brush. But I don't have pets so I can't vouch on that.

u/pandaminous · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I live in a house with three cats and a dog, and swear by a real, old-school lint brush.
