This "study" (if you can even call it that) is deeply flawed, unless we see some sources on where this person got these prices. I mean, the prices aren't even averaged, they literally took a random product from each category, and sometimes the products aren't even comparable.

For example, with razors. Where did this person find a $8 men's razor? If you look at the Amazon best seller list, women's razors (a reusable with 5 refills) are about $14, so that figure is accurate. But if you look at the Amazon best seller list for men's razors, the cheapest comparable option (reusable razor with 4 instead of 5 refills) is about $17 which is MORE expensive than women's razors. If you want to compare disposable razors, you can find both men's and women's for about $5.

Same with the watches. You're not even comparing two equal products. One is an understated, all black watch. Other is a very flashy, gem-encrusted watch. And we're supposed to be suprised that the one with the shiny gems on it is more expensive? Color me shocked.

I don't really get why people get so caught up in the "old school is better" mentality. The same people who complain that the cost of "2000 style" razors is too high refuse to use the "1950's style" razors with aloe strips and multiple-blades, even at a much lower cost. Here you go, 50 cents a shave. I'm sure you can get even cheaper results going with other brands, but I'm sticking with Gilette here.

It's not a cost thing, it's not even a practical thing, it's a weird culture thing that doesn't make sense to me. Maybe someone can explain it.

For the record, I use a DE (face), Fusion (neck), SR (trimming) and tweezers (stray hairs). I wouldn't say any one of those is "best," they all serve their place in my shaving routine.

Here are some sources for you:

24 Bic Razors are $1.18/count.

12 Gillette Razors are $1.25.

So she actually picked two that were similar in price. However, the concept that one company's razor made for men is better than another company's razor for women even though they cost similar amounts is really dumb. They aren't made by the same company and there was no blinding in her study. Since she has a bias, she obviously will not shave her legs as gently with the female razor.

Edit:

/u/JuryDutySummons pointed out I grabbed the wrong razor. The Sensitive Sensible is $1.69/count. That's 43% more per razor, so her comparison is not good based on price either.

People may hate on me but in this case, you could probably just use a cheap cart - a disposable, even (two blade is good - see here - a can of barbasol would probably last you years since you won't need much.

check out the razor saver. It's basically just a mirror in a protective casing but it extends the life of a razor by at least 2x... Probably more if you make sure to soften the bristles with hot water before hand.

I have this issue too, I use the cheap ass two blade razors and throw them out frequently, seems to do the best that for the price.

I'm UK so idk whether brands carry over where you are but at the moment I use these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wilkinson-Sword-Hydro-Razor-Blades/dp/B01AK7IA0E/ref=dp_ob_title_hpc, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Real-Shaving-Professional-Shave-Sensitive/dp/B000UVNJQ6/ref=pd_sim_194_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=V2A0QM79MR0X2F8NKN79

I get the shaving cream for a pound in my local discount store it's extremely not worth that price lol. But that is honestly less than I pay for the blades in superdrug.

How key is shaving in a skin care routine? Do I really need to dive into the world of shaving (and buy new materials) or is my current routine okay?

Right now I use a Bic Flex 3 Disposable Razor with Edge Shave Gel once a week for every week/week-and-a-half.

Having read some of the shaving posts however, I think I might pick up Arko Aftershave Balm

I’ve tried this with no luck a few months back. Spent about $100 on a complete shaving system created by and for people with coarse/curly hair. Ended up with not so good results and pain.

Once upon a time I had a good run with these Bump Fighter Razors. I may end up trying them again pretty soon come to think of it.

The name Sanguine and its connotations of blood would bother me, but it looks like it would do the job. It's basically a holder for the blade of your choice; the actual shavette will make very little difference.

I use a Parker one for edging my beard, works fine.

When I used the mach 3's, they would only last about 4 to 5 shaves before they wanted to make me take them to my wrists instead of face. I started buying the very cheap disposables (http://www.amazon.com/Schick-Disposable-Sensitive-12-Count-Packages/dp/B001ET73CO) because I could use them for 3 shaves or so and toss them and not feel like I was throwing away big bucks.

u/MisterPhalange · 1 pointr/Accutane

I only shaved my mustache during my course using Gillette Fusion HydraGel shaving cream and the Gillette Mach3 Sensitive Disposable Razor and trimmed what little beard hair I have with this because I don't like shaving my entire face.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/funny

For me the Mach3 was a game-changer at the time.

These days, you get disposable triple blades. So quaint.
