Spawn was pretty bad but the whole soundtrack is excellent

u/lance466 · 13 pointsr/ToolBand
  1. I’ve seen them 24 times from Coast to Coast (in the US at least) and have never paid anywhere close to $200 for a ticket. Including a show at a small NY Opera house on the 10K Days mini-tour where I was greeted by a tux-wearing usher and had to check my coat at the door.

  2. Radiohead and Beyoncé (among others) - 2 of the biggest names in music whether we want to admit it or not - have both dropped brand new albums with NO prior warning, marketing or announcement of any kind. Tool announced the release date months in advance and even told fans in advance that new music was going to be played on the tour that just completed.

  3. Here is Lateralus Vinyl for under $30:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005BGV2

    Undertow Vinyl for $25:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000000992/

    Opiate Vinyl for $9:
    https://www.amazon.com/Opiate-Ep-Tool/dp/B00000098N

  4. The setlist from this most recent tour contained 11-13 songs depending on if it was a festival gig or not.

Of those 11-13 songs - TWO were brand new tracks, ONE was a brand new drum solo, and THREE others (Intolerance, Sweat, and Part of Me) have been extremely rare cuts over the last decade (or more).

So going into the most recent tour, chances were 100% that out of the 11-13 songs they were going to play, you were going to get no less than 3 new songs you’d never heard before (period) and almost 100% that you’d get a 4th song you’d at least never heard live before.

  5. Now get off your f’ing soapbox. We need the f’ing space to nail the next fool poster.

NIN / Trent Reznor

Listen, specifically, to their instrumental album Ghosts:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyKNUj-AjgA

If you like it, please buy it from them:

http://store.nin.com/

or

http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-I-Nine-Inch-Nails/dp/B0015FQZ94/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410801779&sr=8-1&keywords=nin+ghosts

Trent has released free album(s) before as a gesture of thanks to his fans, so actually buying this (if you love it) is a good thing to do.

My favorite band since I first heard Pretty Hate Machine in my youth, I have grown up alongside this amazing, talented, haunted composer...NIN has been the soundtrack to my life.

Unfortunately, metal bands haven't really broken into the Blu-Ray market as far as I know. However, if you need something to watch, the Nine Inch Nails - Beside You in Time Blu-Ray is an amazing show.

Edit: I should also point out that it's not Blu-Ray, but the new Meshuggah DVD is DISGUSTINGLY AWESOME

Even though my taste in music has changed considerably from back in the day, it's still probably a toss-up between The Crow and Spawn.

The Crow because I'd just got my first car and we'd all be driving to 18th birthday parties listening to this sequence of brooding-angry-brooding that just summed teenage life up perfectly ... Spawn because I thought the producers really tried to do the best job they could do. There are some fucking insanely huge names on this soundtrack. And Mansun. But still, they got such a superb mix of artists on this.

u/icecolddrifter · 3 pointsr/vinyl

Fucking great album.

Just a heads up: The normal version cost right now 7,35 Euros on Amazon in Germany. Absolute steal, however they claim it's the limited editon, which it's not.

Brazil.

I can't remember what movie it was for, but there was a soundtrack I used to like when I was younger that took techno bands and rock bands and had them make songs. I think Marilyn Manson and Atari Teenage Riot were on it. I don't remember much more.

edit: Figured it out. Spawn soundtrack. I would probably hate it now, but I loved it back then:

Opiate: $12.59
Lost my first copy I got at a record store in the 90's, re-bought this on Amazon.

Undertow: [$16.98](http://www.amazon.com/Undertow-Vinyl-Tool/dp/B000000992/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346420953&sr=8-1&keywords=tool+vinyl
&qid=1346420953&sr=8-4&keywords=tool+vinyl)
I bought in '95 at a local record shop in PA. Easily available on Amazon.

Ænima:$300 / $50
Original prints are $300+ on Ebay
The knockoff that I have sell cheaper on Ebay

Lateralus: $38.99
bought from ToolArmy, didn't have the cash to get the $150 signed one
at the time. Not too expensive on Ebay right now.

10,000 Days: $49.99
Never released by the band only knockoffs available on Ebay

Salival: $69.99
Also never officially released. I don't have one of these, but knockoffs available on Ebay. Too expensive for a knockoff. I'm happy just having my original VHS copy.

$238.54 gets you all the knockoffs. If you want the 4 originals it'll be $368.56

Hope that helps.

First thing to do is research the Music Corner forums at stevehoffman.com. Discogs won't tell you the best pressing. The database isn't structured to do that there are too many noobs there. People outside of a few people that have large record collections aren't going to through all the effort to catalog their entire collection on discogs. I have about 2000 records and it took me a couple of months to get mine complete. Another source is analogplanet.com. Fremer reviews records and he compares them to older pressings.

If you want to know a few re-issues that worth the money that are still in print I'll give you my list.

Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, Moondance and His Band and Street Choir from 2008. These are as good as the original green labels. Cut by Kevin Gray (with Steve Hoffman on Moondance).

Metallica's Kill 'em All, Master of Puppets, and Ride The Lightning cut by Chris Bellman from 2016 on Blackened.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication cut by Chris Bellman

Big Brother and Holding Company Cheap Thrills (mono) cut by Kevin Gray https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VTAETI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Love Forever Changes cut by Chris Bellman https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096PS4Y4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Paul Simon Graceland 25th Anniversary Edition cut by Ryan Smith

The only expensive one is Californication, all the rest are under $30 and you can probably find Electric Warrior for less money than Amazon.

If you notice the list is almost entire Chris Bellman and Kevin Gray. You can look them up on discogs. It will list records that they have cut. This won't tell you which to buy, but it will give you a starting point.

They use quite a bit from Ghosts 1-4 by Nine Inch Nails. Quite a bit of that material was used for the basis of some of the songs on "The Social Network" soundtrack. Not sure if that's the previously referred to movie soundtrack.

iRobot is a personal favorie. Anything from Disney/Pixar (especially Wall E) is amazing. Kung Fu Panda does a great job. if you are into the bands, the Nine Inch Nails "Beside You in Time" Blu Ray is gorgeous as well as Metallica's "Francais Pour Une Nuit"

everyone that i listed will also give your surround sound a solid work out if you have it set up

u/aCfOB12 · 1 pointr/Music

I know of it from this.

u/Tomcat1994 · 1 pointr/DIYRift

Lenses are a billion percent necessary for a DIY Rift. Along with the fact that you'll have a very small field of view, the software also warps the image for the lenses, therefore it'd be practically useless without lenses.

I can see why your family would think spending 20 bucks on cardboard is silly. Seeing how you don't want to order online, the only other place I can suggest getting a pair of lenses under 10 bucks is your local music shop. Really. Does your family think you like Tool? Because Tool's album "10,000 days" comes with two stereoscopic lenses. Check your local music shops for a new copy of the album with the lenses, and boom, you have your lenses.

Hope this helps!

I paid $20 for my copy. If you live in the US, you can order off of Amazon here for $30. In terms of prices, I've seen them vary from $25 to $35, with the average price landing somewhere in the middle in my personal experience. If you wanna try and land a copy off of Discogs, here is the page for the version I have. Its a great sounding pressing, and the gatefold is something to behold

|about|Opeth is a progressive metal band from Sweden that is influenced by many diverse musical styles ranging from jazz, 1970s progressive rock, death metal, and blues. Their recent releases have deviated from their traditional death metal influenced style, with more emphasis on progressive elements. Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt is also noted for utilizing both clean singing and death growls, often in the same track.|

10,000 Days album cover

Seeing as that's the cover for one of their albums, it's reasonable to assume it's possibly Tool related. The back of the album continues the artwork as you can see the top half of the tattoo image as the back cover.

u/justabaldguy · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Awesome! Which do you like most? For starters, do you use last.fm? I'm justabaldguy on there and that has a lot of the more electronic/chill stuff. I've found a LOT of great artists on there, including free downloads. If you sign up (free) and add me as a friend you can see my tastes. Very good way to learn new artists. I use that site daily when grading and doing online work.

If you want more progressive rock, my current new favorite is certainly In the Silence. A brand spankin' new band with just one album and (last time I checked) they don't even have a Wikipedia page! 3 is a good band too, especially The Ghost You Gave to Me. I am OBSESSED with Anathema though. Weather Systems is absolutely HAUNTING. Beautiful vocals, love the male and female duet on the second track. UN. REAL.

u/doomed_wizard · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My coolest item would either be this or this I don't know both have some pretty trippy artwork

NSFW story

as for a story (well I still laugh every time I think about it) this happened recently. So I had my first gig with my band last sunday and only our friends showed up (it was at the worst bar in town) and we played death metal but on the last song we played the song I got erection (a funny punk song) and we made up funny lyrics like: every time I get an erection lasting longer than 4 hours....ERECTION!...ok well you get the point we just made up the stupidest lyrics then when the song ended my friends got up on the stage and every one of them just said erection into the microphone.....I know I have a teenager mentality. I can think of some better stories if anyone wants...

Some albums are made colored, some have special colored releases.

The only case I can think of where it is all "chance" would be this upcoming Primus Vinyl Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese

>A 200-gram vinyl LP to be released on the same date also features Claypool's new stereo mix of the album. In a 'Mystery Vinyl' challenge for fans, 1000 unmarked, randomly selected copies will contain the new stereo mix on a yellow vinyl LP instead of black.
