Even more of a miss, they went to the 3M wall-hanging products and didn't just grab this.

These clips also fit a wider variety of cables, I use them for a spare HDMI I keep plugged into my TV.

I bought these off amazon. They're pretty neat. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00V7KOIZA

Hey all, I just started collecting a few months ago after missing hot wheels as a kid. My collection is small, (and all black lol) and I wanted a nice display case to show it off, but didn’t want to spend a lot — thought I would share with everybody how I did it.

First I got this Display Case from Michaels. Use their 40% off coupon and you can get it for $35. It holds 24 cars at an angle.

I bought the LEDs off Amazon for $9 — it's just a simple 3xAA Battery Powered String Light. I chose this because you can trim the length of the lights down to only what you need, and it's easily concealable as the wires are very thin.

Wiring was simple. You can easily remove the back panel on the case. I just used some black electrical tape and zig-zagged the lights from top to bottom and cut off the excess. I also left a little extra so I could run them out the back and create a backlight for the case. I'll probably paint the battery housing black to hide it more, and maybe move it to the bottom or back if I mount the case on a wall.

Last, I used some mounting putty to secure all my cars in place.

All in all, it took $45 and 45 minutes to get it all setup. I think it turned out pretty nice, hope you guys like it too!

I've always hated the built in overhead lighting in virtually all the rooms I've lived in, so I always opt for some strange combination of hanging string lights of various kinds. What I've found is pretty nice is running an extension cord up the wall and hiding it behind a tapestry (not sure if that's your vibe though). I then start the string lights up at the ceiling and I feel like there's a good amount of customizability. Something like these will give you a ton of light compared to the Christmas kind, and it won't seem so unseasonally festive. The drawback is the lights are really delicate, so I'd recommend doing the hanging first and then screwing in all the bulbs. They've got all kinds of sizes of these which are pretty damned good for holding up the lights. Then it's just up to you how you want to arrange. Hope this was at least a little helpful!

Edit: light, not lift

got these and these for last year. both lasted through the festival, my girlfriend has the white ones on her balcony and they're still going.

like I said though. need like 3 per canopy. also the white ones are definitely brighter, the colorful fuzzy looking ones are definitely cooler

So sorry for your loss! Twinkle lights can really make things cozy. I have a strand on my mantle and I actually have them up all year round. Also candles! The Thymes Frasier fir candles are a little pricier but great quality, come in different sizes, and to me they just smell like the holidays in a good way (I'm not a fan of food/super sweet candles).

u/hippocratic_oaf · 3 pointsr/makingitpodcast

These might not be the exact ones but /u/evanandkatelyn made a similar sign using these lights. It's an Amazon Affiliate link so if you buy them you'll help support their channel at no extra cost which would be great seeing as they are mods here for free!

u/madsbrain · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I do not want a boat like this. But I DO want a string or two of Christmas lights! Why? Because everyone needs Christmas lights adorning their living space! Boring old desk chair? Glam it up with Christmas Lights! Window without curtains? BAM! MAGICAL GLOWING CHRISTMAS LIGHT CURTAIN! Annoying person who wont seem to leave? Tie them up in a festive wrap of Christmas lights!

Can someone help me?!?

Can y'all look at these and tell me if you think they'd look nice together (and if you think it's too feminine or if you think a guy wouldn't mind it keeping in mind he's kinda super chill about things). I promise this will one day be relavent (no I am not becoming a decorator for one of my friends - I wish) - also keeping in mind on a beach around dusk / nighttime

Ignore that they're all glowy lights, just what is the opinion of the colours TOGETHER as a whole.

Sorry the camera angle is a little off but I swear the thing is level. Anyways, I moved into my first apartment recently and unfortunately there was no light in my bedroom. I had this idea after seeing something slightly similar online and I figured I could make it look a little better for less effort/money. I had never really done anything like this before but I figured why not.

Made a picture frame that's 2.5'/5' with some wood from Home Depot (they cut it for me), ran some sandpaper over it, and then stained the wood to resemble walnut. After it dried overnight (one coat was enough), I then hammered in cut tacks around the edge at 5.75 in. intervals. I bought a 165 ft. copper wire (with 500 LEDs) and then wrapped it around the tacks. Best part = I can change the brightness since the lights came with a remote/IR sensor.

I put it up a few days ago and recently had a housewarming party. Everyone thought it was really cool, especially when it's at lower light settings - really sets the mood.

Were you not able to find ones on Amazon or was there something about them that didn’t fit your needs? This one is for outdoors.

I laid out smart lights in a 24 x 4 x4 glass case. I hid the wiring and bases of the bulbs in sand and surrounded the bulbs themselves in selenite pieces. Then I added selenite towers and quartz chips along with some larger quartz pieces. The selenite carries the light better and the quartz provides some more diffusion and darkening at the surface and in between towers.

If you're only going to live here for another year, I wouldn't go out and purchase any major pieces of furniture unless you plan on moving to another place with more space. I say this because your place look eerily familiar to an offictel I had in Korea or a small apartment in Japan. Are you teaching overseas?

Anyway, I think you did a great job with the layout and with what you have. Everything seems to have a dual function in a way.

My recommendations would be:

  • Add more color with framed pictures or some wall art. Do you take photos? Consider have some of them framed for cheap.

  • More pillows for the bed, so it can double as lounge seating. Think throw pillows.

  • Can you get a TV stand with a bit more storage below? Something like this from IKEA. You'll be able to put a little bit more on display (books, trinkets, etc.). Plus, you can stain the wood to your liking.

  • Check out these string lights. I have a feeling you have really obnoxious overhead lighting, but awesome natural light. You can string these lights around the big window like a "U" shape. It will definitely give off some nice ambiance at night.

I've been looking at your room quite a bit, and one thing I realized is I cannot deduce anything about you. Meaning, there's nothing in your room besides some generic wall art that shows off your personality. It's clean, minimal, but not expressive.

Try thinking about some of the things you like and how you can incorporate them into your place. I don't mean putting up a bunch of posters on your wall like a college dorm room or displaying toys you bought. Make it tasteful and mature.

So for example, in my apartment, I have some things on display that I've come across in my life or when I travel. Little glass bottles of "medicinal drinks" from Korea, Japan, and China. Some random trinkets from wherever displayed in certain places around my house. An old SLR camera I use every once in a while. A few high quality screenprints of bands I enjoy, city transit system maps are cool (I have this one), and maybe reprints from artists you like. A few tea candle holders and a scented candle goes a long way too.

I know you are limited on space, but check out the aesthetic of this guy's house, [this guy]http://imgur.com/OEw1jeU), and this guy. All of these spaces display personality and style.

Please do not do something like this. It's just tacky and self-absorbed.

I do really like your space. Try bringing more of you into it.

Uh. Just get solar powered lights! No need for batteries then!

u/lalalalaicanthearyou · 1 pointr/DesignMyRoom

Ok, Soo.. obviously I have no life but I browsed your apartment therapy classifieds and saw some really cool stuff. This is what I'd do:

Starting at the back towards the kitchen. To mix industrial & rustic I'd get these stools A guy local to you makes these so you can put them on your wishlist and not worry about getting them too fast if you like them.

Following from there, the half wall in front of the brick pillar just to the left when you come up there stairs, I'd put a small console table with maybe some books, candles, frames and a bowl to throw your keys in. Something almost like this But I wouldn't buy that exactly, it's over priced. You can easily make your own. Something very slim and only just the length of that wall. Maybe you can make your own legs like this or buy an old table take the off legs, spray paint them red and make your own console table top. It's really easy I just made made my own coffee table top for $50. It was very easy and home depot cut all the wood for me. I'd guess about $100 for you. Again, that can wait.

I'd put your TV on this killer vintage credenza that's a total steal at $280 with a cool $9 vintage owl I'd jump on that if you like it. It's a total steal I've seen that exact style run for much more.

I'd grab this baby for $700 first thing Along with this chair

I'd still keep the original coffee table and side table I posted.

cool storage for that nook/half wall by the stairs $180

I thought [these](As for wall decor these marquee letters would be cool framed and mix vintage and industrial.) were industrial and cool.

And this light is a cool industrial touch too

Also, it's always been a dream of mine to hang globe lights from rafters.

They're sometimes called party lights, if you want to expand your search terms. I recommend LED if you want to keep bugs away, since the most credible theory I've seen says bugs are attracted to UV radiation in artificial light. There also shouldn't be any glass to worry about shattering with LED.

Human perception of the brightness or dimness of a light source is relative to its surroundings. You'd probably be best off either checking out your options in person at a brick and mortar showroom, or get something dimmable (or even find one with an in-line dimmer).

Price is going to depend a lot on where your willing to make compromises on the above, as well as how much you need. You can get a 48' string of 24 LED light sources from Jasco for $90. If that breaks your bank, then nothing that meets your criteria will be affordable. If you need over 100', then be prepared to spend triple.

A quick search for LED party lights turns up a few options more in the 96' (2x 48') for $70-$130 range, but from brands I've never heard of and can't vouch for. This one seems like the best fit, since it specifically mentions shatterproof.

Good luck.

Here is the amazon link.

Thank you, next year I'd like to get rid of the deck and make it one large patio. Add a hottub if I can afford it.

We all start somewhere! This is in a suburb near Buffalo NY

If so, it’s similar enough to this one (I bought it like 5 years ago)

My experience with University apartments is that the lighting is just plain icky. Buy some pretty decorative lights like this star lamp or string up some cafe lights. The dim, warmer lighting just makes the room feel more home-y and really makes it a place you want to spend time in.

Also, this is just me, but every home or apartment should have a plant. I'm a city-dweller, and being surrounded by pretty green leaves just livens up my whole place. I still have the plants I got for my first college house. I am very attached to all of my plants and I like to talk to them and sing to them, and caring for them is just so fun! And, they make great decorations. The first plant I got was a cactus. I had to leave mine in California when I moved back home, but a cactus is very easy to take care of. Just give it lots of sunshine, and water every once in a while. They grow very slowly, but it's soo cool to watch them slowly get fatter/taller.

I found two lights just now that might work. They have a slow fade option so the colors will rotate slowly. One is $7 and one is $9.

Yeah the frames around the tiles are white, though i thought that might not look bad with darker panels considering the previous suggestion of a dark ceiling with white recessed lights. Installing new lighting is a bit out of my budget sadly but I like the idea of having some dim glove string lights like these along the ceiling
I do also prefer matte colours, never much liked stuff that’s too reflective

u/luopjiggy · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I would suggest buying a string of lights and hanging them from somewhere on your ceiling if you can't install anything. Something like this: www.amazon.com/Brightown-Clear-Globe-String-25-Feet/dp/B012S2LNLC/

They sell them at Costco and target as well.

I feel you. My fiance and I have a very limited ($3,500) budget as well. We took a different route venue wise, but I think you can pull it off! Tulle is an inexpensive material that can adorne many things. It's great for softening the look of things and adding a romantic/feminine charm. Not only that, but you can buy it in bulk for cheap and you wouldn't need to go overboard for it to make a difference.

I would also recommend focusing on ambiance. Stuff like these fairy lights would go a long way to adding charm to a bland space. Partner that with the tulle and you could do a lot!

I don't know what your vision for flowers (yay or nay?), but you could save a lot of money by using mostly greenery like fern and other plants typically used as filler. Another option is to buy them from a local market and arrange them a couple days before. There are products out there that would help them retain moisture and freshness (putting them in a home fridge would actually dry them out faster) so you can still have them looking nice the day of. You could also try silk flowers laced in with fresh greens if you don't like the idea of all artificial.

Thrift stores are another great option for various elements. I personally appreciate the mix-matched look, but I know that isn't for everyone. Because I prefer the non-matching route, I love the thrift stores.

These are just generic suggestions. Obviously it depends on the theme and feel you are trying to achieve but I hope this helps some! Good luck with your planning and try to keep your chin up! It will be a beautiful day and you will come out of it winning no matter how you decide to decorate :)

Look similar to the ones I bought. Here- RTGS 2 Sets 15 Warm White Color Micro LED String Lights Battery Operated on 6 Feet Silver Wire (1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VFMC5GE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nYayybK3WX7PH

I wrapped these ones up on my backpack last year, in purple. If you look at the "customers also bought..." or whatever it says you should be able to find other colors. They worked great for what I wanted - battery lasted the whole time and whatnot. No complaints whatsoever.

Needs some string lights. Not Christmas, or fairy, but the globe kind. Kind of like these

u/terrencegf · 1 pointr/oculus

Agreed. I use 3M Command Clear Light Clips. The only difference between the 'indoor' and 'outdoor' versions is the command strips. (The 'outdoor' strips work just fine indoors, but the 'indoor' strips don't last outdoors.)

u/DireCyphre · 1 pointr/oculus

Command Hooks. If it's cables you are routing, they make a version for cables:
