>Showerheads: Get it changed immediately. It'll cost less than 1000. It'll save your time and better your hygiene. You will feel less depressed in the morning.

It takes 10 secs to open a shower head, and a minute to clean one. The force of the shower head depends on the source not the shower head. Been so many years(decades) never had to replace one!

>Western Toilets: Get your toilet seat changed to something more flatter and wider, it'll cost you around 600. Also use a good quality hand faucet/spray/jet. Get it fixed/changed if the pressure has gone down. Should cost you less than 500. Use good quality toilet paper, look up Selpak.

Petite women often slip inside wide toilet seats, ain't nobody got time to buy scented toilet paper, use left hand, water and dettol hand soap.

> Many iPhones run on 1GB RAM and still drop fewer frames than 4GB phones. earlier gen iPhone and you will do fine

Cheapest 1gig Iphone still cost more than Nexus 5X, no thanks! Earlier Iphone's will be slow and get boggled down by lack of memory and low ram from day 1.

>Display: You can now buy a 22 inch, 1080p display from Dell/LG for around 10,000. Buy two of them if you need your work spread out.

Work on excel, Acrobat, and Chrome simultaneously on a 15inch 768p screen, never felt the need for two screens. Just learn to use multiple desktops and stack windows. Albeit some people need multi-monitors for specialized needs, but not everyone.

>Kitchen Knives: If you don't know anything about knives, just start with Victorinox paring knives (http://www.amazon.in/Victorinox-Swiss-Classic-Paring-Knife/dp/B001U54YBU/) They are very affordable. Then move on to Chef's knives. There are many good brands there but you can explore that later.

861rs for 3 Chutkut knives? Fuck no! Unless I am trying to cut metal or rocks, a 50Rs-100rs knife will easily retain it's sharpness for over 3months. And when it loses edge, get that guy with that rock cycle to sharpen it; takes 5-10rs for it!

>Gas Stove: I know everything is right with 2 burner stoves, but your whole cooking process will change with 4 burner stoves. You can never go back to two burners after that. This one is not essential though, specially if you live alone or don't cook much.

4 burners burnt simultaneously will eat the LPG twice as fast. A No LPG subsidy no more, Cover food when cooking, cooks faster.

>Containers/Boxes/Bottles: Tupperware or Signoraware. Their lids will never go loose and they will last forever.

Had a set of those expensive microwave safe Tupperwares, tried cooking maggie, fuckin lid deformed.

>Pillows: Stop buying those 200 rs recron pillows. They have literally zero form. Most of us anyway stress our back by sitting on a chair whole day, don't worsen it by stressing your back for the rest of the night. See, pillows are complicated. One pillow can be good for me but bad for you. You have to figure out first whether you sleep on your back or sides. If you sleep on back, the hight of the pillow needs to be less, if you sleep on the sides then the hight needs to be more. The hardness needs to be just enough to support these heights. So ideally a pillow should support variable sizes depending on the size of your body and sleep pattern. Here is one for reference: http://www.amazon.in/Viaggi-0058-CERVICAL-PILLOW/dp/B00M97WOV0

3k for a fuckin pillow? Go to desi GADDA guy, will give you better stuff at 200 then what you get online.

>Boxes of Museli, roasted grams, peanuts, sprouts, fresh fruits etc.

ye saab museli, roasted grams, sprouts ka heh? Bhai saheb app kaha k ho? Keep atta, refine oil and rice. Will come in handy during APPADKALINE situations more then Mussolini.

>Desk chair: Your chair does not need wheels or 5 inches of padding. The most important thing is the shape of the backrest and to a lesser extent, the armrest. Go to stores, try a few. If you can't get a new one, at least get a separate backrest itself. Something like this: http://www.amazon.in/HealthSense-Backrest-Cushion-Memory-Foam/dp/B00S2J3DFK

90degree angle back chair is o.k to work on a desk for few hours or as a dining table companion to eat, but if an I.T guy were to sit on it all day. He'd be killing himself.

>Footwear: This is very important. You will have to spend some money here. You may not be aware how different it actually feels to wear something that is meant to give care to your feet. Go to a store, try out some stuff from asics, sketchers etc. You will have to spend around 4000 to get started but suddenly you will want to walk to every place. Save up money to get a good pair. I absolutely insist.

4000Rs shoe isn't necessary, got one chappal for 99rs from flipkart and a sneaker from Globalite worth 350 from amazon, still going strong after a year.

Wanna know cheap? Picked up Holi Powder falling on the ground to rub other's today, washed clothes in friends washing machine, ate food at his house, updated apps at his house, snatched a pair of socks he got at some wholesale market. Packed extra roti's in newspaper that his mother made, sabji in polythene bag, gonna eat that now as dinner. Forced him to drop me off. All this at zero rupees!

EDIT: As O.P also requested more hacks, here it goes; (will keep updating it.)

  • When eating at a not so fancy place or irregular one, spend money on mineral water, you'd have no idea what kind of water that plastic jar may have. Splash is the new Bisleri it's seal is much harder to fake and open(sometimes get's annoying) but use teeth, keys or nails to open that plastic seal on top. Trust me, splash' seal is much harder to fake.

  • If you can't finish your food, ask them to pack it, if they refuse, get a polythene bag and put food inside it.

  • Buy gadgets based on your needs, don't fixate on that one thing(3gb ram, 4g). Need a laptop to just browse and post dank memes? Buy a sub 20k lapi. Need a phone to just make calls? Buy a sub 1k phone.

For the smokers and Tobacco Chewers

    My hipster anytime high friend uses these tricks;

  • Instead of buying cigarettes whose prices are always getting high, he buys packets instead of Khulla. What he does is even more astonishing; he smokes the cig halfway and then plucks the amber away like that of a carom player hitting a striker. This cause the cig to instantly go out, and then he smokes it again at some later point, counting it as 2 where as he actually smoked one cigarette.

  • Use a lighter instead of matches, buy one of those 10-20rs lighters, last ages at lowest flame. Matches create garbage and contribute to deforestation, or so my friend says......

  • Instead of gobbling whole packet of Tulsi-Rajnigandha at once, chew fractions of it. He makes a packet last all day.

  • Drops cigarette ash into his pegs, says it gets him drunk quicker (not sure? don't try this at home, in fact, don't do any of those bad things in the first place!)

    Edit 2:

  • Don't be stupid and start buying those Calvin Klein/branded uber expensive underwear, it's an underwear, ain't nobody gonna see that you wear branded expensive ones. Never buy tight ones just so the can form crease lines across your package, which when you view yourself in the mirror, makes you feel good. The only thing the'll do in the long run is cause rashes, and make you do that "pull underwear off butt crack" every 10 minutes.

  • Rayban/Fasttrack, nobody cares. Buy off shops at cheaper price for not so 'branded ones'(albeit they U.V protected and all) If you see goggles/sunglasses as a practical element, then no need to spend that much on it. if you see it as a in-your-face, I am rich, fashion statement, then by all means buy those expensive ones.

  • Summer is coming, stick with just wearing briefs or vest instead of buying specialized summer clothing, unless you going out.

  • Use Hibernate instead of sleep in laptop, saves battery.

  • Turn off background services on apps not necessary, to save data.

      Planning steps

  • We started with a known foot print and therefore decided to find what we thought would best fit within it.
  • Plan planter box layout; make sure you have enough room to walk around and squat/bend/kneel down.
  • Plan for excess space to have potting/seed starting bench and tool/supply storage.
  • Figure out how many doors you want to have, maybe you want to have a door at each end. Factor if you want to get larger items inside like a wheel barrow to see if the door is wide enough.
  • Look up and calculate ventilation requirements passive or active will result in different needs.

    Construction steps

  • Calculate all dimensions and cuts needed to make before taking out tools.
    • Use Roof calculators listed below in Knowledge section for the more complicated dimensions like rise/run and bird mouth cut.
      • In our case the front wall is ~ 8’ the back wall is ~ 6’ and we chose to rest the rafter on top of the back wall and butt it into the front wall. This gave us a pitch of 2 in 12 or 10 degrees. This is right on the border of being able to self-shed snow but we figured since we can easily brush it off this low angle would be fine.
  • Cut framing for front wall.
  • Frame front wall on ground at 3’ OC (on center).
    • Stand front wall up and prop with extra 2x4.
  • Add dwangs/sills between studs for additional support of panel and/or window locations.
  • Cut framing for back wall.
  • Frame back wall on ground 2’ OC.
  • Cut plywood siding and attach to wall.
    • We needed to do this because of the short concrete wall at the back of the patio wouldn’t allow access to attach the siding.
    • Stand back wall up and prop with extra 2x4.
  • Put layout marks on top of both walls for rafters 3’ OC.
  • Check measurements for rafters and cut to correct angle, length, and bird mouth.
    • We choose to have the rafter terminate at the vertical edge of the double top plate (on the front wall) instead of resting on top of it. This way we could utilize the “R” angle profile to seal the roof panels to the wall panels.
      • Joist hangers could be used here to increase strength and we may add them going forward.
  • Add dwangs between rafters to keep distance consistent, resist twisting, and additional support for panels.
  • Frame side walls using same angle (10 degrees) created to make the roof.
    • Leave openings for Door (32”x80”), Exhaust fan (18.5”x18.5”), and gable vent (16”x16”).
  • Prep H profiles by running glassing tape on back side to adhere to studs.
    • This will reduce the need for excess screws. I borrowed this idea from the Growing North blog listed below in the Knowledge section.
  • Tape top (Aluminum) and bottom (Anti-Dust) of 6x8 a panel.
  • Run glassing tape on perimeter of 6x8 panel to create a better seal and reduce need for fasteners.
  • Slide H profile on to first 6x8 panel and install both on wall fasten using neoprene washer fasteners (DON’T CRUSH PANEL).
  • Continue down the wall till complete.
  • Measure and cut roof panels to size.
  • Tape same as before with aluminum, anti-dust, and glassing.
  • Install Roof panels in similar fashion to wall panels.
  • Install “R” angle profile as you go along we found it best to slide it on to both panels from the side.
  • Cut, Tape, and Install side wall panels/siding in same fashion as above.
  • Install “F” Gable end to seal side wall to roof slide like on from side like “R” angle profile.
  • Install storm door according to instructions.
  • Build planter boxes according to layout.
    • Line bottom of planters with burlap and staple in place.
  • Fill with soil

    Future plans

  • Cut window openings and install automatic openers.
  • Bring water and electric into greenhouse.
    • Wire up exhaust fan and several outlets for:
      • Grow lights
      • Circulation fans
    • Design/Install irrigation system.
  • Potting/seed starting table.
  • Tool storage.
  • Vertical growing.
  • Solar lights.

It would be fairly difficult to drive regular stakes into an apartment floor, so use a bigger hammer and these instead: https://www.amazon.com/Pinnacle-Mercantile-Stakes-Ground-Anchors/dp/B07N139PWF

It might be easier if you sharpen the points.

u/proudplantfather · 5 pointsr/houseplants

Thank you! To your first question: the vines that were damaged had a lot of nodes, which made propagating very easy. I basically cut the stems (internodes) below the nodes, dipped the ends in rooting hormone, and set them in a clear glass cup with water. Once they root, I'm shipping them out to my friends!

To your second question: Get a trellis instead of a moss pole!

https://www.houseplantjournal.com/home/monstera-trellis

I purchased this off of Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SHFWXQ7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I use green rubber ties to tame the beast into a form that I like.

It's a trellis for climbing plants. I have the same ones and they're super helpful for pothos and other plants that will climb https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RN4B7WG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_H6mRDb9VA1HZH

Or try this. By a decent knife (100 bucks is decent) and get a whet stone for 50 bucks. That shit will last you a LONG time. I mean it. Seriously. You just have to understand how to retain an edge and you'll be left with a sharp knife 24X7.

The secret to this is, you'll probably have to grind the knife a little when you're sharpening it for the first time and this may take a good twenty minutes. Once done, you'll only need to run the knife's edge over the stone gently just a couple of times every time you feel it is losing its edge. That's it. Chop onions like mother fookin Gordon Ramsay. Marvel at your ability to finely slice cucumbers. Become the knife maniac that you should be.

It isn't a rail spike that would be used for a railroad. It is a landscape spike. They are used to secure landscape timbers and edging. It might have gotten bent when landscaping was being done and accidentally left there.

I've also seen them used for surveying, marking fence or wall layouts etc.

I use something similar to this hoop plant support. I tried the moss pole but that thing got pretty moldy. It is working great for me. i dont have any aerial roots though.

I had mine over a bed, it is supposed to work as you can see in the link I sent, but I found it shaded off too much. I don't know. You may have a thought as the lettuce likes it cooler. I mean this kind.

Grapes need sun, the fruit. I have to pull off leaves tomorrow. Fungus attacks the fruit as well as the leaves, so sun helps keep the fungus down. Other than that, I don't know of any. Peppers and tomatoes get sun burnt actually.

u/Mullberries · 2 pointsr/Rabbits

I just keep my cables out of sight for my rabbits. I use garden border along my baseboards to tuck wires behind. The buns haven't bothered the border or the wires since I did it.

I used a super powerful double sided tape to stick it to my baseboards too.

What do you mean by “good stuff”? If you mean nutrients, I’d recommend a high quality feed such as Formulex, I swear by it. It’s not as nitrogen heavy as cheaper plant food and has a long list of trace nutrients which encourage more balanced growth and more robust plants. I’m surprised you haven’t fed them at all by now, I usually start feeding after a plant has been in new soil for about 3 or 4 months.

If you’re referring to the acidity of the soil itself, there are cheap ph meters you can buy on amazon that will give you a rough guide, but the soil is unlikely to change ph very much after just a year. If the soil really has changed ph drastically somehow, there are additives you can get specifically to alter the acidity of your soil.

4X4 tent, HLG 600 H Quantum Board, 707 soil watered/fed every 3 days. The clips are plant clips I normally would use on some bamboo... but hold to netting well too, The trellis is a bungee one off of Amazon:

This is the type of barrier I meant. To use it as a grass barrier, I think you bury 3-4 of the 5 inches, and a lawnmower should be able to pass right over it, eliminating trimming.

I'd guess a little grass would sneak through somehow, but nothing that 10 minutes with a hoe 3x a summer won't solve.

> I plan on giving a 6"-1' buffer that I can trim back any creeping grass

Yes, this is a good idea. New gardeners like to cram seedling veggies right to the edge of the growing space, but everything works so much better with a buffer. (This means, if you are growing tomatoes that need a 36"-wide row, plus a 24" buffer, the tomato seedlings get planted 42" from the grass.)

u/PM_ME_HUGE · 1 pointr/landscaping

I would put down actual edging. Then yes, a weed wacker.

For reference: https://www.amazon.com/Master-Mark-Plastics-95440-Landscape/dp/B006H39W30/ref=lp_3480672011_1_6?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1494114652&sr=1-6

Edging prevents the grass from creeping into the bed and ends the constant battle you will fight trying to keep an edge without it.

u/gabefields · 1 pointr/houseplants

I would, it allows it to grow nicely, i bought this really nice green plastic trellis on amazon, the plant loves it

Spring-loaded lines that have a hook on the end.
I'll attach them at the top of my tent and then drag the hooked line underneath a branch or cola I want to life up.

They lock into place and the hooks are pretty small. you can also wrap a small rubberband or plant training wire around larger branches that still need help from the yo-yos. Just lock into place once you got or else you risk the plant sagging the line once the flowers put on more weight.

I didn't want to use one scrog, let alone two.
