I have this one, the silent mode is indeed almost silent https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C4QP8KU/ there is also this one which is a lot smaller. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KHLU1WE/ good hunting.

There is a much more economical 500w model by EcoFlow for $599 that I would recommend.

It is also ultralight at a cool 11 pounds. 3000w seems a bit of overkill. This 500w model had plenty of power and I could run my USB personal fans for over a week. They made it really pleasant to hike Southern California during the day. Also, I tend to smell when hiking, hence it was really awesome to have my USB Scent Flower plugged in also. It kept the around me smelling nice and I'm sure the other hikers appreciated the gesture. It seemed to really brighten up their day, because after they saw me, they tended to hike even faster and I couldn't keep up with them.

As one who must sleep with a fan, even in the winter, I highly recommend this guy:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00873CICA/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Very solid build, great output, and it oscillates both vertically and horizontally. Muy bien.

I love that you're trying to help your mom! I regret so much that I wasn't very understanding or patient with my own mom when she was dealing with this.

I definitely agree with the suggestion of a small fan for a bedside table. Here are 2 that I've been using for years, and highly recommend:

https://smile.amazon.com/OPOLAR-Operated-Recahrgeable-Hurricane-Portable/dp/B0749M96XT (The rechargeable batteries are a lifesaver, and it allows me to take the fan with me around the house. And it's great to travel with -- mine has been with me all over the country.)

https://smile.amazon.com/Caframo-7-Inch-White-Chinook-Fan/dp/B0010UPOEQ (This lives on my nightstand, and it's one of my most favorite belongings.)

u/Pearl_krabs · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

The key for cleaning is to get this style. Those three tabs you see around the edge are key, they allow easy disassembly of the fan cage. You can wipe down the blades and send the cage through the dish washer.

Whisper rooms are typically something that actors work up to (due to its high cost) or when soundproofing (and not sound treatment) is your only option.

You've mentioned a few things:

(1) First is that you’re renting a studio apartment.

(2) Second is that you haven’t done much voiceover work yet.

The issue is that Whisper rooms can easily run up to $3500. They typically have poor resale value and due to shipping costs, you are very limited in who you can sell it to. You can only sell it to anyone who's around you. So that's something to consider. That money would be better served in other areas that could help you accelerate your career ie, a better microphone, audio interface, a demo reel, a website, workshops and training, etc.

The problem is that even if you manage to set up the Whisper Room (it's a huge hassle btw), you then run the problem of later having to sell it when you inevitably decide to move somewhere else or to carry it with you, which can be a huge hassle.

Another issue is ROI (Return on investment).

As mentioned, you really only should be considering a Whisper Room if you feel the ROI is justified. If you're paying $3500 and you aren't making that money to even break-even it's not good ROI. Typically you want to work up to it. As in, when you are at a point where income is steady and you are making enough money in voiceover, you can then make adjustments to consider purchasing a Whisper room.

For now, I think the best route might be to just bear without AC during recordings. A PVC booth would work great. Also if your closet is a walk-in closet, it can be made to have great sound if you add the right acoustic treatment. Non-walk-in closets are hardly as effective as they tend to sound boxy but if you’ve got a walk-in closet, it’s fantastic for sound.

If the heat is unbearable, there are two alternatives.

The first is to turn on your air conditioning to cool the area. Then turn it off and then to record. If that isn’t an option, get RX7 Elements.

RX7 Elements $29.99 (It's rarely discounted this low so I'd definitely consider taking it)

RX7 Elements is one of the best audio editors out there and it’ll help a lot with the fan noise.

Another option is to consider a super quiet fan. This fan was actually recommended by six voice actors and it works absolute wonders in the “Silent Night” mode.

The fan is called the Rowenta VU2660 Turbo Silence Extreme

https://www.amazon.com/Rowenta-Silence-Extreme-Electronic-control/dp/B06WD44Z47

Buy it on Amazon and see if it works for you. If you don't like it, just return it. But I guarantee you that you'll be amazed at how effective it is. (I don't work for Rowenta. I just think it's a f-ing awesome fan)

I’ve probably tinkered with about 25 different fans and I found that this was very effective in helping me stay cool but adding minimal noise in my recordings.

Hope that helps!

Hah, I totally get that. It took me over a year to build my lightboard, deep water cultures, aeroponic tower, and a small room inside of our FROG to handle everything. None of it was difficult to do, other stuff just kept getting in the way.

I built a lightboard with LEDs but you can buy one instead. There are a ton of grow lights on Ebay. They're coming straight out of China and getting cheaper every day.

I'd skip the Raspberry Pi for now. Go simple. Get a cheap timer like this and a simple oscillating fan like this. Once you get the hang of it, then consider using an Pi to start monitoring sensor data and controlling timers.

For inspiration, check out this report the The Verge just did on an MIT project.

This guy on YouTube is always fun to watch. He's a redneck down in Georgia that does some serious hydroponic gardening and really knows his stuff. He then gives away all of his food to elderly neighbors.

u/Ratus_ · 2 pointsr/flashlight

Hmm... Didn't think to look an Amazon.

Yep, but it has an USB out and a LED light, $13 (not an endorsement).

I bought mine off of Amazon, but I'm sure you could probably find them cheaper locally at a Walmart or something.

u/Jayohwhy23 · 2 pointsr/WaltDisneyWorld

We bought this one for our trip last August. I had a Mophie battery to hook it up to once the initial charge died and it lasted us all day.

u/grewbeaucoup · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

At h. Depot i got two 4" vornado personal fans with lil S stands that i wrap around tent poles. These fans output some air and seem well made. $20 each tho..

Unfortunately i think its discontinued as its an awesome fan. You might be able to catch one on ebay.

u/2xfooled · 2 pointsr/pelotoncycle

I just had my second bike install (in my second house). Before delivery I set up three fans. I find that I can't have too much wind -- it makes a huge difference in the amount I sweat and my performance. I like these from Amazon because they work well, aren't too expensive, and you can control multiple fans from the bike with one remote:

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Adjustable-Oscillating-Standing-Pedestal/dp/B07BNGPWT4

If you aren't getting your shoes delivered at the same time, you'll want those ready so you can climb on and test things out while the installers are there.

Of course, ready your account and wifi password so that you can log in to the bike right away.

I also like to have a tallish shelf/table/stand next to the bike to store kleenex, extra drinks, towels, phone, whatnot at arms reach, but you can figure that out after delivery according to your preference.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the club!

Roku: I have two and use them everyday. They are how I get all my movies/tv. Both of mine have the usb port on the side so I can watch the things that are on my external hd.

Silicone bowl covers: These are freaking magic, I'll never have to deal with hateful saran wrap again! They also can go in the oven, but I haven't tried that yet.

Nail Tek: I have flimsy nails that peel and break, this lets my nails grow without breaking.

Hunter desk fan: Quiet, beautiful, BFIL quality, and powerful. When I say powerful I mean it, like it will blow on me and I'll go to turn it down and it's already on the lowest setting. But that's not really a negative. I used this fan all last summer it worked perfectly.

Salux: I love my salux, dries quickly, never smells bad, and makes my skin glow. I've even gotten the boyface and his family using them.

It's sort of similar with husband and I. I like the noise, he hates having air on him. I found this on clearance at Target and it would suck to use as an actual fan (lol) but it does make just the right amount of noise and you can tilt the head to point straight up. Gives me my noise, keeps the air off of husband. :) If you need it to keep cool, though, not sure it'd be very effective.

Well I have 2 fans in there and a small dehumidifier that help with the temps, then I also put in a 1 liter frozen water bottle per day to make sure my rez is nice and cold. I have never had a temp higher that 83 degrees.

^ Not cheap, but the price has actually gone down about $10 since I bought it. Great fan though!

Fans don't use much electricity, compared to something like a grow light.

If on a budget, I'd recommend ebay / craigslist, as /u/Inasaba mentioned.

$60. Free shiping (I'm pretty sure it said so), and most reviews are very well and say its reliable. So it won't die on you like your other one. Or you could get two of the smaller ones for double coverage of your apartment

I use This It's awesome for keeping air moving in the tent and can charge anything with a car adapter. Also I've never used more than two sets of batteries for near constant use all bonnaroo long. Though there is a very specific and confusing way to put in the batteries so make sure you read the instructions.

UPDATE:

Stopped in at my 2 local grow stores and holy markup batman. One of the stores took out and showed me a Can-Fan HO 6" (Best fan they have according to the grow store guys at both stores...) and truthfully I think my cheap ass ventech fan is better quality...

But the best part is one store wanted $190 for the can fan while the other was asking $230 FOR THE SAME FAN that sells on Amazon for $130 talk about freaking markup.

I really wanted to give my local grow shops some coin but not with the crazy inflated prices and limited selection... Oh yeah both grow stores quoted me Prices for the Vortex S-Line 6" as well. One store was somewhat close at $230 but the other one wanted $310 for the damn thing that growershouse.com sells for $183 with free shipping.

Anyways just needed to vent about the ridiculous prices and that I found and my thoughts on the can-fan HO. Be sure to price check everything you buy at a grow store (other than soil prices seem standard) or you will most likely get ripped the fuck off...

I've had success with Thermacell, but even more success with a multi direction oscillating fan.

u/The_Real_Bill_Murray · 1 pointr/HotPeppers

It looks to be only affecting my jalapeno, cayenne and crosses of the two.

The light was probably 1-2 feet away, maybe they got burned?

I have noticed that the soil is taking forever to dry. I'm suspecting my light source is an issue?

I have the light on from 6am to 10pm, fan running, 2 of 3 flaps open. Room temp is 68F, no idea of the inside temp of the tent.

Using this LED light and this fan

A week ago I shaved the top of the soil, it was dark, hard and just not drying out. That's when I added a fan to the equation.

Am I right in thinking it's the light? I am thinking of grabbing this one

I have a teeny portable fan that has a stand and a clip that I take when we travel. Hotel rooms often do not have a ceiling fan either and for some reason always feel humid/damp. This is similar to what I have: https://www.amazon.com/Holmes-Convertible-Desk-Black-HCF0611A-BM/dp/B007QE62PU/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=mini+fan+with+clip+and+stand&qid=1571169143&sr=8-5

This fan will freeze you out. I have one at work and when the AC was out last August in SC, I actually had to turn it off sometimes because I was too cold.
