I actually did some research on supplements that can help the liver recently for an alcoholic family member. Here is what I found,

Milk Thistle

Multiple studies from Europe suggest benefits of oral milk thistle for cirrhosis. In studies up to five years long, milk thistle slightly improved liver function and decreased the number of deaths in people with liver disease. Although these results are promising, most studies have been poorly designed. Better research is necessary before a strong conclusion can be made. Source

Recommended Dosing For cirrhosis, 160-800 milligrams of silymarin (Main ingredient of Milk Thistle) has been taken by mouth in 2-3 divided doses daily by mouth for up to two years.

Tudca

The next supplement is Tudca (Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid) is known to help reduce liver enzyme levels and liver re-genesis. From my understanding this supplement is much more effective and has better studies than Milk Thistle. 10-13mg daily has once been shown to improve liver regenesis rates in a clinically ill population.

The decrease in liver enzymes associated with cholestasis is quite strong, and TUDCA is a reference drug for these effects. Source

An increase in hepatocyte regeneration has been noted with TUDCA in persons with liver disease. Source

Turmeric

Turmeric may be another supplement that can help regenerate the liver. Studies have shown regenerative properties and lower enzyme levels in individuals with liver damage. Source

Here is a link from Amazon for the fermented kind that was used in the main study, Link.

I am not a Dr. This is not medical advice.

Bromelain is the chemical in pineapple juice responsible for improved flavor. It is also an anti inflammatory chemical. These are the ones I take.

I asked a pharmacist about alternatives to meloxicam (nsaid). They pointed to curcumin extract with pepper, but be careful - they told me based on the studies they have read (which are mouse models only), therapeutic benefit was only evident in high doses.

I began taking 0.5g curcumin with bioperine this summer. It does about as well as a daily 15mg meloxicam and doesn't burn a hole in my stomach.

However, I had to find a brand that was third party tested (because supplements are not FDA tested) and I had to do math to figure out just how much curcumin the products even have, because the tablets advertise their weight instead of the actual curcumin content.

I ended up going with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G1DB67P/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_eoKRDb5K3VCV0

5 tablets a day minimum. Seems to work OK, not as a painkiller, but as an anti inflammatory to decrease overall pain.

I think the best supplement you can take to help with lifting is creatine. It's cheap, the most studied supplement on the market, and beneficial for just about everyone. Terry Wahls talks about adding it to her diet as a way to put her MS in remission. It's good for your brain, muscles, hormones. I'll probably take creatine for the rest of my life. Examine.com has probably the most comprehensive page on creatine I've ever come across. Solid, straight forward info on it. Related, I just read a study where parkinson's patients took creatine for 2 years straight and had no adverse effects (some people are concerned with kidney function, because creatine raises blood creatinine levels, which can be a marker of kidney problems).

In some folks (like me), creatine also makes you look kinda fat, so if you start taking it and gain water weight (that's all it is), just don't worry about it :) Creatine causes your body to retain a lot more water in every cell, and basically makes me look like I've gained 5-10lbs. If I stop taking it for a week or two, I deflate back to normal.

If you don't want to go the creatine route, bulksupplements carries a ton of good supps. You could get caffeine powder, which will last a while, and add it pre-workout for energy and post-super-intense-workouts with carbs to help replenish glycogen. It could also potentially help with your weight loss goal, though probably not enough to make a big deal of. Also, I'd just recommend drinking coffee before your workout, because coffee has a lot of benefits and is a strong antioxidant.

BCAAs are good if you wanted to get some more. Citrulline malate is a good pre-workout, you could add it to BCAAs pre-workout. Read a study the other day that says fasted AM cardio was awesome for fat burning. You'll want to take some BCAAs before that to preserve lean muscle. If you wanted to try something like lean gains, BCAAs are a staple if you also exercise in the fasted state.

I might even get a big bag of cinnamon because cinnamon's awesome. Curcumin (turmeric extract) is good, too. You can eat both of these, and each has some pretty cool properties.

Generally it's sold powdered so you can mix it in whatever you want! I put it in coffee, lots of people put it in milk (cow or substitute) or tea! As far as I know, it's Indian in origin (it's called haldi doodh over there!). It's really caught on in the Western wellness industry because tumeric is supposed to have anti-inflammatory properties. But I just drink it because it tastes good!

The powder I buy I get from Whole Foods, but you could probably find it at a lot of co-ops. This is the brand I buy!

They make extract of turmeric targeting the curcumin, such as:

http://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Turmeric-Extract-Tablets/dp/B001G7R4EQ

It also includes the black pepper that makes it work better.

u/Shamwow22 · 3 pointsr/science

> If i'm buting Turmeric then i'm getting a spice which can have different levels of purity depending on where I buy from and what brands I get.

That's why they make the standardized extracts of herbs. They're standardized to contain something like 95% of the "active ingredient".

(If you shop around, you'll see that not all of them are even close to 53 dollars, but you get the point)

I take this liposomal (highly absorbable) mixture of curcumin and resveratrol. I also take the same company's liposomal vitamin c and glutathione.

You can buy turmeric grown in Hawaii. I use these gummies.

I'm in the nutraceutical biz and what I've found is most effective is to look up on Amazon or Vitacost the drug that I'm taking, than I check the ingredients and from this you'll find the safe dosages. Branded retailers are pretty good about putting correct qty in capsules.

Go to Amazon and just type in "Enhanced Turmeric" a number of products show up. or click this link
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=enhanced+turmeric

this product says 10mg per 1500mg dose
https://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Bioperine-Available-Standardized-Curcuminoids/dp/B01DBTFO98/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1499540532&sr=8-2&keywords=enhanced+turmeric

This product is 10mg per 1300mg dose
https://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-absorption-BioPerine-Standardized-Curcuminoids/dp/B01N18P82R/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1499540532&sr=8-3&keywords=enhanced+turmeric\

So the suggested dose of retailers is 10mg per 1500mg that is the safe level. These companies have researchers who investigate the products before formulating. Let them do there work and just follow there findings and you'll be fine. We are in a litigous society so if they are wrong than they can be sued. They usually aren't.

This is sort of expensive but I eat tons of it. It might be all in my head but I seem to absorb better the nutrients when I eat gummy vitamins. I've actually had some success with the flare-ups going down.

Since I'm a compulsive overeater I have to be careful cuz sometimes I can really go to town on these.

30mg? that's so tiny. and 130$ is a lot for that amount. I'm in Cali.

\^ what i like and buy. note that 400mg is with 95% standardized curcuminoids, while normal turmeric has only 2-7% curcuminonids. unless it's in a super form of turmeric (where they process in the lab to make it more bioavailable, you got ripped off, me thinks)

u/pickuptwix · 1 pointr/bjj

I use two teaspoons of this turmeric blend

It's very beneficial to consume turmeric with black pepper. This blend has that and it tastes nice.

u/Sireyn · 1 pointr/KratomKorner

Hey there! Yeah I stumbled across a liquid with both Turmeric and BioPerine on a supplement website I had a voucher for; I did a Google search and found a better price on Amazon (of course!) so here's the link:

http://www.amazon.com/PLANETARY-Turmeric-Ayurvedic-Nutritional-Supplement/dp/B003MBI8JE/

The bottle doesn't say anything about Curcumin specifically, but I think that should be present in all Turmeric supplements? Looking forward to trying it!

Thank you so much again for the reply. I know my posts can be long but no matter how long it takes for you to get back to me, I really appreciate it. Really means a lot to me to have someone as competent as yourself answer my questions, and I've been thinking about what you've said a lot lately.

>Hmmm, I don't actually know for sure which would be more stressful on your heart valves between those two choices, sorry I can't be of more help there.

I appreciate your honesty there, no problem. Smart answer.

My solution right now is to run it the NPP at 490mg and run P5P and Vitamin E instead of caber (Unless you think that'd still carry negative health effects) but if that doesn't work out then I'm done with nandrolone forever and lower dose tren would be my only 19 nor I'd use again. Don't even think I'd need any 19 nors after this blast or even now since like you said, I have a good base now. Just sucks to throw away so much NPP and tren but I'll probably just try to run test/EQ after this blast, as it keeps weighing on my mind as the smartest decision every time since you've brought it up.

>If you're taking a 10-20mg/day of Tbol as a day versus 50-100mg/day, there's obviously going to be a difference in risk. But 50mg/day isn't going to be 5x as beneficial (or even twice as good) as 10mg/day, when used to "kickstart" a cycle.

Smartest way I've seen anyone lay it out, just like you did in your other reply

> because at a certain point you're looking at heavily diminishing returns with more potential detriment. Cuz the difference between running a total of 250mg/week of 500mg/week of AAS is astronomical, but there's not that big of a difference between 500mg/week and 750mg/week, and definitely not between 1g/week and 1.5g/week. But the detrimental effects increase pretty much linearly, so the risk:reward profile gets worse and worse.

I've always understood diminishing returns, but it's just that I've seen how the muscular gains in certain testosterone studies were linear up to 600mg/week of test E (the highest dose I've seen in the studies), so I assumed that it might be linear even higher up and similarly with things like nandrolone or tren or even bold. Tried to find the studies but here is one at least Don't have access to the full text through so I'm sorry.

Regarding beta blockers, I should be able to get some metoprolol pretty easily in a few days here, although I know it's not as cardioselective as nebivolol which would be a little trickier to obtain. Not sure how much more cardioselective or better overall nebivolol would be but I've heard it's by a lot.

I might give metoprolol a try but not sure what dose you'd recommend to start at. It's alright if you don't have time to lay out specific dose related recommendations for it and let me know if you think nebivolol would be a lot better.

Thanks for explaining your reasoning for mentioning tbol as well. Surprised you didn't mention dbol or anadrol since those have been pretty widely used historically, but anadrol gives me really bad sides. I'd be willing to tolerate the bloat, high BP and pretty bad lethargy if it didn't make me lose 30-40 hairs every day lol. Dbol makes me lose just enough hairs to make it not a long term viable option, so I'll look into giving tbol a try then!

Another random thing I wanted to ask you about, you said if you do ever use AAS you'd use

>2.5mg of aromasin/day

The only pharma Aromasin pills I've seen are 25mg, how do you plan to dose 2.5mg of pharma asin?

Lastly, I see that you're mod of /r/Supplements. Thanks for the reassurance that the Vitamin D3 and CoQ10 are helpful. Just wanted to ask if you have any recommendations in regards to other things to include, or what to remove.

On blasts, I'm also still taking: Tumeric This brand, which claims to include Bioperine due to tumeric's supposed low bioavailability, just wanted to ask what you think of that or tumeric in general for AAS centered supplementation.

Which form of CoQ10 you recommend (Ubiquinone vs. Ubiquinol) or if that even matters.

In addition to Fish oil (just omega 3s, would you recommend Omega 369?), 500mg milk thistle on orals, 1.5g TUDCA on orals, 1g Choline/inositol for liver health year round, 2.2g aged garlic extract for cardiovascular health, 1.2g NAC, and a multivitamin, (Complete multi by Naturemade because they're USP certified, let me know if you have another multi preference to recommend!).

What do you mean by "you have not used any commercial preparations of curcumin"?

I was thinking of purchasing this powder: https://www.amazon.com/Strength-Anti-Inflammatory-Antioxidant-Supplements-Friendly/dp/B01DPW5DD8?th=1

And blending it with my topical steroid medication to make a sort of paste, and applying it to my nails and massaging it in.

I was also thinking of taking a teaspoon of it with black pepper and milk each day, orally.

How do you find curcumin? You don't purchase it?

u/otwang · 1 pointr/Supplements

To be exact it is standardised to 95% curcuminoids, not standardised to 95% curcumins, This is the standard concentration used in the supplement industry, and it is considered safe and efficient at this dosage. Curcuminoids are a larger family of natural phenols that includes curcumin, plus other active compounds. Here is an example.

u/SameerPaul · 1 pointr/ADHD

There is evidence to show that vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 help some patients with ADD. They are very important vitamins in general, and they play a very big part in the proper functioning of your nervous system (B6 is involved in neurotransmitter synthesis among other things, and B12 is involved in the metabolism of literally every cell in the body). Some of the effects that can be seen are increased energy, motivation, and focus. If you look at the ingredients list for 5 hour energy, for instance, you will see ridiculously large quantities of these two vitamins. It might be worth a try. A quick search of Amazon brings up the following:

https://www.amazon.com/Mason-Vitamins-Formula-Tablets-90-Count/dp/B002VPE74W/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469476887&sr=8-1&keywords=b6+b12

https://www.amazon.com/Webber-Naturals-Vitamin-Folic-Tablets/dp/B001LFK9MM/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469476887&sr=8-5&keywords=b6+b12

Take your pick, both seem to have good quantities and seem relatively reasonable price wise.

You can also try a B complex, which includes all the B vitamins and can be found at your local pharmacy, but sometimes the presence of B1 (thiamine) seems downregulate the effect of B6 in ADD patients.

In the meantime, exercise is one of the best things you can do.

u/jonfl1 · 1 pointr/gout

FWIW, after reading your post here, I did some further research and came across this product: http://www.amazon.com/Formula-Cherry-Extract-Celery-Turmeric/dp/B0088JPQOU/ Has the celery seed and bromelain you mentioned, but also the tart/black cherry, which I'm currently taking by itself now.

Haven't tried it yet, but just bought it to give it a go and see if it helps at all. Will definitely report back on this sub.

u/pl4typusfr1end · 1 pointr/sports

Hey, try these. Seriously. Take two before you go to bed-- you'll metabolize the curcumin out too quickly if you stay awake.
