I use these whenever I need lighting in one of my cheapo gun cabinets. No wiring, motion sensing and you plug them into a USB port to charge them. They last me months between charges.

Just a note Hue sells also extension kits (1 m) which do not include plugs.

Also another note I have seen several users report that the plug makes a lot of noise when there are extensions plugged into light strip. I have one 1 m extension but the plug makes noise even without it when set to white (cold and white.

I've never had LED strips that stick well. If you don't mind a more permanent solution I can recommend these clip things

Edit - obviously these are only really an option if you have a wooden desk to screw them in to
