Here’s a slightly closer look at the two bottom levels. If you want to see more photos of any of them, check my post history!

-The lighting kit was ordered from The collection corner. Pricy, but probably the best lighting setup on the market: http://thecollectioncorner.com

-The Cabinet’s are all dustproofed using weather strip around the doors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071S8M5H8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5h6VCbQ71SY6S
They’re adhesive backed, so all you have to do is measure, cut and apply around the doors 👍🏼

-The risers were some modular storage units I got from wal mart. I don’t know if they’re being made anymore, but I bought an additional two cubes to reinforce the inside and space them apart to line up with the detolfs.

they were cheaper when I bought them, around $25 each

Theres so many now. When I had this issue which was more than 10 years ago, we relied on Home Depot because they had at the time the best deal for them. We must have used 4 jugs of Round Up, which worked good but didn’t stop them, before getting into the glue traps. The glue traps took about 3 weeks.

I installed a bunch of catch masters maxcatch in the kitchen because some of the bugs were coming in from the window when we had a vent installed. They were gone in about a week. I placed them inside of the walls of the kitchen cabinet where they were lurking and at the bottom of the sink. The sink is where it’s slightly damp so that’s where they will be.

You should also try to figure out where they came from in the first place. If you open your windows a lot, may way to cut that down. Look at the gap between the door and the floor when the door is closed. You can buy a silicone draft stopper which doubles as a bug blocker so they can get in the apartment.

Put a rolled up towel under your door to retain privacy, or buy a door draft stopper.

I just can't see how you'd possibly get a good seal around the top of the unit when it's under the counter long term because you just slide the bottom keezer up against styrofoam boards - that's not a rigid/complete seal. You'd need to have some sort of flexible seal around the whole back/sides where the "lid collar" is butting up against the bottom tub/freezer. Might be able to do a couple rows high of self-adhesive foam insulation around the "collar boards" where the freezer would snugly fit against the foam to make the seal? Like bring the "collar boards" down to overlap the top opening a bit where you would then use the foam strips below to create the draft seal?

You need to look into drop-down weatherstripping/door sweep for the bottom. Sleeve/surface mount plate gets you most of the way there, and takes care of angle. Drop-down part seals against floor when door is closed, and lifts up slightly when open. Get long enough to bridge the frame and weatherstrip the corners for maximum seal.

That, plus compression soft rubber weatherstripping around door perimeter (on a solid door) will help a lot. Carpeting the hallway outside will help too, even though it's not your area.

If the door has a fire rating, which it better have, it's as good as practical for being solid.

Weather stripping works really well as a back bumper.

I had the same problem running a light strip on top of the cabinet and solved it using adhesive door trim seal strip. Basically you just want to mask seeing the actual strip without the little leds, right? Would something like this work for you?

Thank you! :) searched draft door seal on amazon and found this one that sticks on the inside, looks perfect. https://www.amazon.ca/Stopper-Weather-Stripping-Soundproof-Prevent/dp/B07D764453/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=under+door+seal&qid=1551153577&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1

I have an older model Fractal Design case, and my trays look very different from yours (they cover the sides too... for horizontal mounting).

But the screw and rubber dampeners look the same, and yeah, they don't help much.

for additional dampening I used a double D-Profile window/door strip ( https://www.amazon.com/Aurora-Miracle-Door-Seal-Strip/dp/B077RZFVTJ/ )

and glued them to the trays (two short strips on each side, two short strips front (touches the HDD's PCB, careful to keep in border area, not under main chip which may be heat sensitive), one long strip in the back.

make sure there's still air gaps on all sides, you don't want to seal it off. also keep the screws "loose", overfastening them does nothing but reduce dampening effect to zero.

the result is a much improved noiselevel. and I didn't find anything that works better in the given size constraints

getting rid of trays entirely and hang the HDDs with rubber bands would be better, but there is just not much room to make it work. I've done it before with 5.25" cages but these are all 3.5"

If you already have dedicated VR glasses, just put something on the sides of the lenses as spacers so the lenses of the glasses and the HMD stay separated. I'm using some sort of window isolation tape I had laying around which even can be removed later. Something like that:

https://www.amazon.com/Self-Adhesive-Insulation-Soundproofing-Collision-Avoidance/dp/B077LQM6LT/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1519460964&sr=8-11

edit: Of course don't do this if you only have one set of high end coated glasses, the coating of the glasses may get ruined by the adhesive.

u/HierEncore · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Something like this? It doesn't have to be an exact match to provide you a perfect seal, just the exact thickness.

I'm excited to tell you what worked for me. I bought this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0742H2XBR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which is like a door soundproof/weather proof insulator thing. And I got a small fan. Use both, and the sound will be gone. It has been working wonderful for me. My roommate plays her gangsta rap music super loud and talks on the phone like no tomorrow, but this rly helped me!

Here is what I used if anyone is interested. It’s enough metal to make about four grill guards and I had plenty of the trim left as well.
