My dog (40lbs, eats about 2 cups per day) has similar tummy issues - months of recurring diarrhea out of nowhere and all vet tests came back negative. Antibiotics cleared up the diarrhea, but a few days after he'd get off them, he'd be right back to liquid poops.

The vet prescribed the Royal Canin GI kibble. We did that for several months (the 28.8 lb bag lasted about a month). Once we knew that the low fat kibble was what cured him, we decided to try to cut down on the costs and find an alternative low fat brand.

The Royal Canin GI kibble has a max fat content of 8.5%, so our goal was to stay around that. Low fat kibble is usually labeled as "weight control". We found Avoderm which is about 1/2 the price of the Royal Canin and we've been mixing half and half ever since.

We also switched his treats to be as low fat as possible (we personally use Old Mother Hubbard's Low Fat Treats) and switched from using PB in his Kong to using the lowest fat wet food I could find - Purina ALPO Wet Food.

It's been about 6 months and he's been great on this diet. Of course, YMMV, but you should totally give it a try and see what works for you.

I know how frustrating a sensitive tummy can be, so I hope this helps :)

These are the best I've found, dogs love them, and since they are a food alternative you don't have to worry about them eating too much junk food. It's cheap, and you cut it up yourself, that way you can decide how big or small you want the treats. There is also a selection of flavors to change it up every once in a while.

Well cooked chicken bones are actually safe for dogs.

Last year I found out that my pooch Finnley has ridiculous allergies, including being allergic to the cat! I'm also still trying to figure out how to settle his digestive issues. He's allergic to dry food and so I feed him a mixture of this canned food and chicken and veggies whenever I get a chance. As you can imagine it gets pricey having to buy him cans all the time (I usually feed him a can in the morning and one at night). I just had to get his yearly shots this month and of course they were all at once so that was a nice $300 bill. I love that guy to death and all I want for him is to be happy and comfortable. He's just been very expensive while I try to adjust his diet and allergies. It would be so nice to have a break on my pay check for one round! Also... his favorite ball bit the dust this morning so he is in need of a new one. He loves to herd it down the hallway and shake it about. It's the only one I can get him to play fetch with long enough to tire him out.

I think it is really great of you to do this! Thanks for hosting.

edit Bonus photo of Finn and his best friend that he is allergic to.

I tried and tried and tried (and started when she was a puppy), but I just could never get her to tolerate it. So I gave up and I give her dentabones and put drops in her water (which is nice because it's good for cats and dogs). So far so good... and her teeth at least look really clean (no brown plaque build up or anything).

I haven't noticed any connection to the canned food and allergy. The treats were mainly Cadet's duck breast. He also had occasional Greenie and sometimes food from my husband's plate... I am yet to train this human how to behave with the dogs.

My 12 lb Chihuahua / Terrier mix is the same way; not very motivated for regular dog food, a little excited for "treats", and pretty excited for actual meat.

I feed him and our other 6lb Chihuahua at dinnertime, once a day only. They get Organix wet food mixed with taste of the wild dry (links below), some water added, and then microwaved for a few seconds.

Dog food goes bad just like our food. Think about what the dog food looks like right when you open it, and a week or two after that; it looks different because it is different, and they can smell it way before you or I can.

My other dog is food motivated, and his behavior when I would open a new bag of food is what tipped me off this might be it. He can smell it when I open a new bag of food and get really excited about it. Because of this, I get the smallest bag of food I can find, and sometimes toss it when it has been open a while and they both seem less than enthused about their dinner.

It's possible your dog is just really sensitive to the smell of the food after a couple of days and just doesn't like it.
