5'7"ish Male here. I prefer what they call 'fisherman's pants'. I love em for yoga and wear em traveling because they are so comfy. You can roll them up to fit you properly too.

For all of those going down the "I didn't know they made men's yoga pants rabbithole," they do but they're not what you're thinking of. They're usually more baggy and, for lack of a better explanation, "free flowing."

OP (and what I imagine most of you are picturing in your head) I imagine what you're thinking of is compression pants. Compression helps with blood flow, especially around the joints. Go to any CrossFit gym, barbell club, or weightlifting gym (of the olympic variety) and you will about face with your question. As a straight dude, there are some dudes in there that can rock some compression pants. No homo.

I, personally, have never seen dudes wear compression pants into a yoga studio, though.

Also, OP...I have no idea what your ass and legs look like but it may not be the pants' fault. Sorry, bro.

Edit: also, factor in that yoga pants, especially that cheap Luleman crap is a light, cheaper fabric whereas compression is thicker and tighter (not as elastic). Go grab yourself some UA or Reebok men's compression pants and they'll be a bit more flattering.

Yep, they're harem pants.

Basically a combination of sweat pants and pajama pants.

I practice many styles, so I'll give my recommendation for each.

Hot yoga/power yoga/any kind of sweaty yoga:
Shorts:
Pillar Short with Inner Liner, no underwear needed as they have a liner. Hands down my favorites. I've had my pairs for 2 years, no signs of wear or tear.
PrAna JD Short -- I usually wear this one with a Bike jock, as boxer briefs ride up too much with these.
I know some guys love wearing tights or spats, but I haven't gotten into it. I think if they're comfy, go for it.

Shirt: None, or if I do, a sleeveless Underarmour shirt

Other Yoga (Hatha, yin, restorative, etc)
Shorts: I love the PrAna Sutra short and pant. The legs are a bit long on the pant, so if there's any leg-on-leg standing balance (e.g., tree pose), I find I have to roll them up.
I've been really into these Manduka shorts as well, but I don't wear them for teaching, as they make my anatomy very... apparent.
Shirt: I tend to wear the sleeveless Under Armour shirts for most things. I also sometimes will just wear a regular t-shirt for restorative or yin. If I'm cold though in those styles, I cover up with a blanket.
Underwear: I am a huge fan of the Ex-Officio Sport Boxer Brief for yoga.

I personally don't wear compression shorts for yoga.

Hope that helps

IT IS COMPLETE!

Behold! Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The MSPaint re-imagining.

I'm on a trackpad here people, don't judge me....I should really get a mouse...

If I somehow win, I would like these yoga socks so I can practice without sliding all over my stupid hardwood floors.

Thanks for the ridiculous contest! I had way too much fun with that doodle...

Good for you! Mr.Goddess had the surgery about 12 years ago and I believe it saved his life. It really will be "A whole new you"

My good thing is that I have the next 10 days off! Yay vacation!

This is under $15.

Cheap, durable, breathable, soft, elastic waistband cuffs. I’ve been wearing the same two pairs 4-5 days a week, mostly to hot classes, and they’re still kicking without any tears or anything.

I typically pull the cuffs up to just below my knee for a little more breeze, tucking most of the extra fabric under the elastic, but I guarantee you’ll love them. They aren’t shorts, but they turn into them when I use them. I’ve had a few women I practice with buy a pair (I’m male) and absolutely love them too.

It took me forever to find something to wear. Eventually I found these and I'm very happy. They don't fall up like normal gym shorts, they're not super tight and they're still athletic shorts. The pockets aren't ideal for flying but I've never had any problems and I fly a fair amount.

I have these and love them! They are a little bit cheaper than other pairs I've seen, and I have to say... I finally understand why ladies love wearing yoga pants. They are now also my go to for days I skip practice and focus more on (couch-based) "meditation".

Another option is to wear yoga socks. They have grippy things on the bottom so you don't lose traction, and the material won't be abrasive to your partners.

Also the lululemon running shorts are something like these. They have underwear (ish) built in and the flaps allow for movement of my legs. I don’t wear other underwear (sorry if TMI) when I do yoga in shorts.

4-rth.com I have both the cuffed pant and eco track shorts, I really like both of these.
YogaAddict These shorts are good but the pockets can bunch up at times.

I have 3 pairs of these and they're awesome. For shirts, I just searched through redbubble for prints I liked and then ordered them in tri-blend which is really breathable material that will soak up sweat like cotton, but won't stick (at least it doesn't stick to me and I'm pretty hairy lol). The shirts are a little pricey, but from my understanding the artists get a decent cut of the profits for their work and the shirts are good quality.

If you are short-ish thai fisherman pants are great. They are one size fits all and unisex, so if you are above average height they might be a bit short. But they are super comfy, and semi warm.
