Where you can find the RAM QVL It's nice as a reference, but we've seen a lot of RAM compatability improvements in recent BIOS releases, while this list hasn't been updated since the board's release. ANY ram should work, more a matter of if you'll get full speed. At 2666, you probably won't have any issues hitting that speed.
Assuming you want to buy from Amazon, looks like the Corsair set is a tiny bit cheaper, in stock, and rated for faster speed. If you want the HyperX stuff that's fine too. Getting 3000MHz stuff to 2933 usually isn't too hard though. Like I said before, the 3200 mark is what's hard to reach these days. Honestly? Go with whoever you think will have better customer support or honor warranties incase you have errors after the 30 day return/replacement period with Amazon ends. Make sure you give the sticks a good Memtest run once you get your system running to check for errors NOW, and not discover you're having problems a month after you buy them.
Yeah, video card budget is a pain. I had 400 set aside for a video card, ideally a Vega56, 4 months later, I've dumped my budget into some nice headphones once I saw the December surge. Kind of regret not buying that one Gigabyte Vega 56 I saw for 420 one day back in like... october? but thought it'd come down a little more if I waited another week, or when Black Friday came around. Also regret not just settling on a 4gb 580 for 200 on the Black Friday sales. Oh well, can still game on my old HD 6950 on low, and listen to some nice headphones too.
It's possible to game on 8gb of RAM, you just may find yourself wanting to shut down your browser that's trying to suck 3-4gb when you start up a game. Browsers are HORRID RAM-Hogs these days. 16gb is a nice buffer or if you like to multitask a bit.
You can always grab an SSD in the future. It's about 80 dollars for a decent 250gb one. If you find a sale you might be able to snag for around 65-70. I'd be tempted to do this before getting 8 more gigs of RAM when you upgrade in the future if you're not a heavy multitasker.
Edit: One more thing, remember you can always try to manually overclock your RAM higher. It's POSSIBLE you could take a 2666 rated kit and get it to 2800 or 2933. Depends on your luck, patience, willingness to try.
Looking at your case on Newegg, I'd leave the rear exhaust fan and take the other fan and put it in the rear top fan as an exhaust fan as well. Leave the top front fan grill open and then grab a new front intake fan (Here). I know you want to save money but let me explain why this would probably work.
A bottom intake fan usually increased temps in my case because it would blow hot air from the video card upwards, so that's out in my book. A front intake fan will feed your 1070 that you'll be throwing in there, so that's nice. The rear exhaust and the top rear exhaust will work in tandem to grab any heat from the CPU and CPU mosfets, keeping things cool. It's exactly how I have it set up in my current rig. The open top front fan grill can act as an intake vent for the CPU fan if needed as you don't have a front intake fan that can blow air ABOVE the video card.
I think i just confused myself. Okay. Starting from scratch. I have the cooler linked https://www.amazon.ca/Thermaltake-Contac-Silent-Support-CL-P039-AL12BL/dp/B06X9Q1K88/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 here. It has a 120mm fan on it. The fan connects to the motherboards cpu fan pins. I would like a fan to replace this one that has rgb (pink mostly). I'm hoping whatever I get works with rgb fusion through the gigabyte software. I can't afford a full nzxt setup as nice as they look
so today i went to actual gigabyte manfact. to have motherboard flash latest bios, f22 check. as for the build i have all the corresponding parts cpu, mobo, case, psu, hdd. all i need is ram now also i have older periphals so thats taken care of. My case is rosewill tyrfing, power supply is 450b3evga i also did consider getting an ssd but my budget either consist of saving up for actual dedicated graphics card, or add additional ram 8gb making it total of 16, or possible ssd as well just waiting for ram to come in so i can boot pc run test see if ill need the additional mem or if i can splurge on new gpu to pair with ryzen2200g cpu or the ssd for increase in operating functions. my total budget is around 600$ for build still got about 150ish to full around with. if u could send a link with compatible ram list for the ga ab350m would be much appreciated. the one im looking at currently is a hyperfuryx 2666ddr4 link:https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-PC4-21300-HX426C15FBK2/dp/B013H7QBTG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519208623&sr=8-1&keywords=hx426c15fbk2%2F8
Thermalright Macho Rev. B is what I have on mine. Fits perfectly and was surprisingly easy to install.
20°C @ Idle & rarely goes above 50°C during gaming with a 3.8 OC @1.3V.
do you think the higher soc voltage affects ram overclocking? with +0.00 SoC (1.15 with a multimeter), GFX SoC at 1.175 and DRAM at 1.38 I could get 3066mhz, c14 stable (haven’t tried lowering voltages).
have you tried measuring with a multimeter to make sure that HWINFO is accurate? the more results we have the better.
copied from another comment:
the only way to know the actual voltage is to go in and check it with a multimeter. something like this should work just fine for the job. you'll want to take off your case's back panel, put your PC on some gpu load like furmark or firestrike or something, and put one multimeter lead on one circled pin and one lead on the other (if it's negative just flip the leads around) if you've never used a multimeter before, it's easy---just put the red in the red, the black in the black, and set the dial to what's in green.
be careful not to short the two pins together, though.
huh that's weird, because when I was able to boot back in I was still on F9d and then I attempted to do the same thing (force into the second BIOS) again, the PC refused to post, until I did it again. So I'm assuming that means I have one fuck up left. I also did remove the CMOS battery and reinsert it before attempting to boot into the backup BIOS and it did pretty much nothing (in the past that would solve all my problems)
I'm using G.Skill 3200mhz (8gbx2) 16gb kit and the Ryzen 5 1600x.
I also previously had the exact same RAM kit but in the 8gb version (4gbx2) and was able to run at 3200mhz perfectly
This is what I am using in my ga-ab350 GAMING ATX board:
ADATA ASX8000NP-128GM-C XPG SX8000 3D MLC Nand Flash, 128GB PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 Solid State Drive
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MFH0I0S/?tag=pcp0f-20
Works great.
Thank you for your suggestions, I will probably look into these! Do you know if 3 of the Arctic F14s and a NZXT FN V2 120mm will work with the mobo?
Forgot to mention, you can buy something like this for RGB https://www.amazon.com/NZXT-HUE-RGB-control-AA-HUE30-01/dp/B008RWT2IY/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1491432517&sr=8-8&keywords=pc+rgb+controller
It goes in the slot where a cddrive would go and allows you to hook up RGB light strips to it and control it using knobs since you can't control it through the motherboard.
Ignore things you don't have ( chassis intrusion, speaker, TPM etc ), the board doesn't need them. Actually it only needs 20+4pin MB and 4/8-pin CPU power connectors to run, you can use a screwdriver to short the power pins and it will run fine without anything else, it's all optional ( SATA, USB headers, power leds, reset button etc )
The Gaming 3 doesn't come with a built-in beeper, so no, it won't beep unless you plug in a speaker, you can buy one separately ( like this one ) or do what I did and just salvage it from any trash pc laying arround, the plug is mostly standard
Im in a situation similiar to the OP. Ive got a Ryzen 2600x on a ROG STRIX b350-f gaming mobo updated to bios 3805 w/ corsair ddr4 3000 (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15) (i tried booting it w/ bios 4011 and decided to rollback to try my luck getting it to boot to no avail). The memory is clocked @ 2133 1.2v on the board.
I got the boot kit from AMD and can enter bios using that, however I can't install windows from a USB w/o it freezing within 5 seconds. With my Ryzen 2600x in the slot I dont get any bios and no video.
Halp
I'd suggest getting an adapter,
https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Adapter-Converter-Gold-Plated-Compatible/dp/B017Q8ZVWK

Assuming you have a cpu that has an igpu (2200g/2400g) running two sets of graphics drivers is only going to cause headaches in the long run. I'd avoid it if possible and instead go with the adapter I linked above. Could also do dvi to hdmi.
A bit late, but here are some questions.
Have you returned the motherboard or RMA'd it?
Do you have something of this sort?
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Motherboard-4-Pin-Header-USBMBADAPT/dp/B000IV6S9S/ref=sr_1_cc_6?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1503257581&sr=1-6-catcorr&keywords=usb+2.0+front+panel+header
If you do, then please try plugging the 4 pin connector to first, at the top of one usb 2 header, then at the bottom of the same header. Try this with both headers and this would definitely help isolate the issue to either a fault in the headers or some sort of problem in the case's front panel usb 2.0 wiring.
Anyways, this is a hardware issue of some sort, just quite tricky to determine whether both usb 2.0 headers have either the upper half or lower half pins not working, or some plug issue in the case wire itself.
Do let me know if you do it.
Edit: formatting.
E2: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016RPA2N6/ref=pd_aw_sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3SR0AYGGSXC24022SK3H&dpPl=1&dpID=41yJFZivj8L
This would be a better and easier way. Just put this into one header, check both ports working or not, then the other.
Hi there, sorry to hear you're experiencing the same as me! I'd advise you to log a ticket with Gigabyte ASAP because I posted there before here and I still haven't received a response.
I don't know where the error light is so I don't know if it's on or not.
I have Corsair RAM. CMU16GX4M2C3000C15. Here is the Amazon link.
R7 1700
Gigabyte gaming 3 using latest f8 bios

If I enable XMP the system hangs and cannot get past the windows logo screen. It will also completely ignore any input from the keyboard so I cannot enter the bios to make changes. I then have to unplug the cmos battery and the power supply for at least five minutes to reset everything.
I am old school and ram overclocking is something new to me. My understanding is that I am supposed to enter the timing numbers that are printed on the sticks correct? problem is that every time I see people listing the timings they write them out as something like 14-14-14-14-36 (five different numbers) my sticks only list four numbers 16-17-17-36 ............. also. In the bios memory settings how am I supposed to know which specific setting gets what number?
