I have NOT cured myself. Let's get that out of the way. I personally think I need to give antibiotics a go for bartonella and see what happens combining them with what I'm already doing. However, these are "natural" things that I have found quite useful for bartonella in particular. I have been much better at one point than I am now, and attribute that to all of this (some things more than others). I have NOT been cured yet, so I'm not claiming any miracles. I have been in a downswing in the past year, and I attribute that mostly to getting away from what was working for me. I say doing as many of these things as possible would be helpful. But if you don't agree/find any of it to be bullshit...don't do it. We don't need to have another internet argument over the validity or proof behind any of this. There is some for some of it, but I'm not offering or claiming anything, but anecdotal evidence here. A little background on me....I'm a former athlete(thanks to these infections) who has always been interested in the best ways to improve my health/body. So when I recommend something like breathing exercises...I recommend them based purely on the physical improvements they have given me. I'm not interested in anything that doesn't work. And just because these things have not "cured" me...does not mean I think they are completely useless. In fact, I may be dead by now or at least in a much worse place physically than I am now and like I used to be. I found some things some people claim as absolute bullshit....to be actually quite helpful. And I have also found some of it to be useless. At least for me. I keep an open mind, and try what I can afford if I think it could be useful. I would recommend these to anyone who has been on antibiotics for a while and isn't noticing any/or little improvement. Maybe just try these for a while instead or in a combination. That's up to you and your doctor. I recommend not jumping in without careful consideration and second opinions. So with all of that said.....these are things I have personally found helpful. I may expound on these later, but for now, google search these herbs in general and with keywords like Lyme, Bartonella, etc if you want any explanations as to WHY they would be helpful.

  • Cinnamon Leaf Oil
  • Cordyceps Extract
  • Haritaki Fruit
  • Red Root
  • Infrared Sauna (you can get a cheap portable one) Helps with detox,
circulation, and keeping you warm. We tend to run on the chilly side with
    these bugs inhibiting our circulation.
    *Hot baths
  • A diet filled with generally warming foods. Look up yang foods. These would
be foods and spices that promote circulation, warmth in the
body...some are antimicrobial as well (such as garlic). This is basically a
lifestyle change. You are trying to get back to even....and as these infections
are diseases that are promoting bodies with weakness, tendency to feeling
cold, having low energy and poor circulation....we can help this by avoiding
foods that promote sluggishness and bacteria growth. So cooking veggies
instead of eating them raw...and drinking tea or room temperature water as
opposed to cold water can help on this area. For more info on this just google
yang and yin foods. Certain aspects of Chinese Medecine are more out
there...but for anyone skeptical... this part is just simple common sense on
how food, spices and herbs affect your bodies beyond just calorie surpluses
and defecits. Its already prevelant in western society to a degree. We tend
toward warm/heavy food in winter when we are cold and need more energy. In
the summer we go for lighter, colder foods. Take a look at it. Again not a
cure.....but a very helpful tool. Close to my biggest recommendation. Create an
environment that the bugs don't thrive in....and attack it with antibiotics
herbs...go at it from both sides.
  • Exercise...whatever you can manage...don't overdo it or completely ignore it.
  • 3 specific Chinese formulas for the infections. Thunder Pearls Lightning
Pearls, Dragon Pearls. These are for GU Syndrome. Google it. Don't let the
words "demons" and "snakes" make you dismiss this right away. Read about
it. These are just the translations from Chinese to English for the ancient way
these infections were described. In simple terms "demons" was describing
the more mental aspects of these infections and...bartonella in particular likes
to mess with and embed itself in the brain and nervous system. "Snakes" is
describing infections like Lyme....(what's a spirochete look like?). So these
"Pearls" are a specific brand by one of the better respected TCM Doctors out
    there. Doctor Heiner Fruehauf.
    GU Syndrome

  • Breathing Exercises. There are a lot of different kinds of breathing exercises.
Some to basically stimulate yourself and some to calm you down. I'm sure you
have heard of Qi Gong and Yoga Breathing at some point. Yes, there is a lot of
bullshit, New Agey and ineffective things that are constantly promoted and labeled as Qi Gong. The term simply means "breath work," or breath exercise.
I do not, once again, believe every single one of these exercises is
bullshit. In fact some of it is absolutely fantastic, practical and relatively easy
to learn. I have found, through really looking into this stuff, that its some of the most basic exercises that are the most effective and based in common sense from a western perspective. So I will focus on the one that I believe to be the
easiest and most effective. And that is the Warriors Breath. Its basically deep chest breathing that floods your body with oxygen( or whatever the actual
explanation is, that's up for debate on the internet) in a healthy way. It might
look like hyperventilation to the unfamiliar eye...but its not. There is a
difference. This is yogic breathing that is very similar to some of the breathing
that Buddhist and Tibetan Monks do to stay warm in the snow. The most famous, easiest way to learn about this is by looking into Wim Hof (The Iceman). Yes, he makes some claims that are, in my opinion, excessive. I do not believe that this alone is the answer to all health problems or our infections...but I do think it is a fantastic tool that has given me back energy, relaxation and cognitive function that nothing else has..which, at the least, indirectly effects your immune system. Bit I sing its praises for the energy it has given my body back. Deep reserve energy...not the cafiene and stimulant type of energy. The specific version I do (which I believe to be better than Wim Hof's) is made by a guy who I would describe as very New Agey...for hardcore athiests and people who are highly skeptical of anything Eastern....listening to his CD (where he coaches you through a breathing session) will probably piss you off. I get it. It is kinda cringey to me sometimes when he talks about his beliefs, but it's also not as bad as I'm making it sound. Either way, if that bothers you...get over it. I think the actual, physical exercise he has you do is great. He has worked with Wim Hof and studied with Tibetan monks and combined these two very similar breathing forms and basically fine tuned it. If this interests you I would absolutely recommend buying his CD over Wim Hof's course. I believe it's better and cheaper

Have a look into Wim Hof first though. There is a lot of free stuff on YouTube that can sort of introduce you to the concept.

DO NOT DO the cold immersion part of Wim Hof's program. Just the breathing.
(I had a backslide because of cold immersion and cold baths) Quick cold showers every morning are good though.

  • Avoid cold MOST of the time. I already mentioned try to stay warm and keep your circulation going as best you can. However, my one deviation from this rule would be to to take a quick cold shower in the mornings. (You do not want PROLONGED cold exposure.) Cold showers are shown to have positive affects on the nervous system, hormones, and immune system. It's really helps lift your energy. But staying in the cold for too long will be detrimental to people like us. It was for me. My infections came back a lot worse after a period of trying the cold immersion. The infections thrive in a "cold" body.

  • Gynostemma (An Adaptogen that is really great at balancing your hormones,
adrenals , and nervous system. This and Cordyceps are my two favorite herbs for general energy and we'll being.)

  • Doug Coil Rife Machine. This is expensive...and I would only recommend it if you have the money, but only as an adjunct to other things. Don't make it a priority and listen to opinions before you buy one. You will find a lot of opinions that they are useless and a scam..once again....this is true for some Rife machines....but in my OPINION and from my PERSONAL experience...the Doug Coil machine has value in killing the infections. But, take that with a grain of salt. It is a lot of money to throw towards that. Listen to opinions on both sides and NEVER decide to put your faith in only a rife machine. That is not going to work and would be a very stupid, uneducated way to approach this disease.... in my opinion.

This is all I'm going to type right now. Take what you want and throw away what you don't. I'm making no claims of a cure, and I'm still not free of this disease. There are natural things that can be helpful....but I'm only listing some of the ones that I have tried and found to be helpful. Cheers.

Edit: Also a huge help. Coffee Enemas and detox in general. Some help with Byron White as well.

Jordan Fisher Smith, one of the Lyme disease patients documented in Under Our Skin (a required film for Lymies!), is the only person who I am aware of who claims that he is “cured.” His treatment was long-term antibiotics, as well as Chinese acupuncture & herbs, supplements, a clean diet, exercise & proper sleep. Jordan’s struggle is partially described in a 2006 article for Backpacker—“Reality Bites: Lyme Disease”. In 2016 he said, “I was treated for 7-1/2 years and have been totally cured now for 8 years. There are others.”

Ally Hilfiger, designer Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter, wrote a (great!) book titled Bite Me, describing a nightmarish experience with Lyme that began in her childhood. She now refers to her health status not as “cured,” but instead, “managed.”

“Managed” is a term that resonates with me. I do not believe there is a cure for Lyme (if there were wouldn’t we know about it by now??), however I do know of people who find a “managed” place and are able live fulfilling lives. That is my goal, and I wish this for you too!

—————
FWD: The complexity of “managed” >>

💚 Thought I’d share something I just wrote to my sister. Sums up the reality that has unfolded in the past 6+ years while being treated for late-stage Lyme disease. As they say— take what you want and leave the rest:

“Oh ya there is definitely a ‘secondary lyme syndrome’ meaning lyme and/or lyme treatment will cause or enable other issues/ailments/diseases. It's a catch 22... like chemo, it can wreck you almost as much as the cancer. U just have to hope your immune system has been boosted enough after treatment to fight off anything new. Immune system will always be comprised tho because there is no ‘cure’ for lyme, the bacteria is always lurking even tho antibiotics can take care of a lot of it. U just have to try to eat clean, rest, no stress, take supplements, stay as healthy as possible so as not to allow the bacteria to take over again. Kind of like AIDS patients - they have to be really careful.”

So, there it is. Defend yourself against Lyme disease and if you suspect you have it, see a “lyme-literate doctor” to help nip it in the bud. 💚

While I suggest following Stephan Buhner's protocols to most that I talk with, there are others out there as well. Overview of Buhner's protocols

This is just an overview, the site is not owned or maintained by Buhner himself. If you do choose to use this protocol, then please do buy the book, or borrow it from someone, as there is just too much information in the books that are not anywhere else - and they are not that expensive.

Dr. Rawls has a protocol based on the herbal experience and protocols of Stephan Buhner, which many people do prefer, as long as they don't have allergies to any of the premixed herbs that are included with Rawl's protocols: Dr. Rawl's Lyme protocol

There are other protocols, but in my 20 years of being a forum moderator, I haven't seen a lot of people have success with the others, although they are an option as well. I used one of those and it was what healed a 37 year old set of tick-borne infections for me, so they can be life savers for some of us.

One thing that I did when I was searching for treatment options was to read this book (maybe you can borrow it from someone, or your library can get it for you?):
13 Lyme Literate Practitioners share their healing insights

The reason I still suggest this book is because it shows that everyone still has different ideas about how to go about healing from these infections. About the only thing that has changed, is that there is more focus on healing the GI system as soon as possible to help facilitate healing better. If we can absorb and utilize what we take in better, obviously we will heal faster.

I never asked you to keep it to yourself. I think sharing treatments is very valuable. All I was asking was to share more information about the treatment, where to find others using it, what risks to watch out for, etc. I had assumed you would have much more research on this than myself, and thought it would be valuable to patients.

I did some quick research myself:

There seems to be a guy who wrote a book on it and people reported success:
https://smile.amazon.com/Salt-Plus-Protocol-Lyme-Infection/dp/1463575483/

That same guy seems to have a website which links to a yahoo groups page with thousands of people in it.

I found this printout that has more details on a potential treatment and it makes an attempt to explain why it works, and what risks you have to watch out for:

https://www.connersclinic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Beating-Lyme-Section-4-PDF.pdf

But since I have never done it and only spent 5 minutes researching it, I have no idea which source is good, or if there are better places to learn more about it. I thought you may know more and that it would be valuable to share.

Lyme patients see so many different claims of cures it's hard to process. So in order for people to choose treatment plan over another it's very valuable to patients to show them information about a proposed treatment.

My public library has a rather robust LYME DISEASE section. I highly recommend starting there, as I always say "FREE IS FOR ME."

"Read this book to find out about the following breakthrough Lyme Disease treatments. Five Core Treatment Protocols: The Antibiotic Rotation Protocol, The Marshall Protocol, The Salt / Vitamin C Protocol, Detoxification, and Electromedicine (Rife Machine Therapy). Five Supportive Supplements: Systemic Enzymes, Mangosteen, Lithium Orotate, Coenzyme Q10, and Magnesium. This book is also very helpful for the family and friends of loved ones with Lyme disease."

Many people who have successfully been treated for Lyme and associated diseases were in exactly the position at one point that you are in now. I personally tested negative for Lyme 4 times, and only started testing positive for it after several months of treatment and now consistently test positive. Serological testing for Lyme is very unreliable, and this is what makes diagnosis excruciatingly difficult.

You need to seek out an LLMD as soon as you can to get their opinion and begin treatment. Also, you need to continue to seek other diagnoses along the way to cover your bases. The symptoms of Lyme and associated diseases are very similar to a number of other chronic diseases, some of them serious like MS. So you have to make absolutely certain you don't have those. Most importantly, you need to learn about the various co-infections that ticks carry (e.g. Babesia, Bartonella, Anaplasmosis, and others) and make sure that you are covering your bases with those. I personally have both babesia and bartonella and they have been worse for me that Lyme has.

I recommend you buy this book called "How Can I Get Better?" by Dr. Richard Horowitz. This guy is a rockstar and is so good he has a seven year waitlist to see him. Buy it now so you can start learning about what you are dealing with - that's the only way to get better.

https://www.amazon.com/How-Can-Get-Better-Resistant/dp/1250070546/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498154805&sr=8-1&keywords=how+can+i+get+better+horowitz

While you are figuring out you doctor situation, and who to see, there are also other treatment regimens that don't involve antibiotics that people have had some success with (but absolutely you NEED to see an LLMD and most likely get on antibiotics). These two regimens are the Cowden Protocol and the Buhner Protocol.

Check out the link below for the Cowden Protocol:

Good luck and let us know if you have any questions at all

Sibo is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Bad gut bacteria that produce ammonia. Like Lyme.. And like Lyme they mess with the brain. One of the main causes is antibiotics use.. My doctor says my Lyme is under control but I still have gut issues and memory problems. I've taken several courses of gut antibiotics for the sibo and miraculous, my mind was clear again! Day and night difference! Also another thing to consider is yeast overgrowth. It can have the same effect as sibo. I keep relapsing because when the sibo is under control the yeast flares up and vice versa..
One solution could be a fecal transplant!

Yeah I think this is pretty common across Lyme patients. The infection (or lingering damage) creates so much inflammation, you need to eat pretty clean to even get close to feeling "normal."

This book on the Autoimmune Protocol Diet has been pretty useful for me in terms of finding some new creative ideas that don't involve grains:

I have used Flourish Probiotics by Eu Natural. These are actually probiotic supplements. i had a really bad case of stomach problems with nausea and lack of appetite. I was recommend this and did some research before deciding to go in for it. Basically, this is a natural combination of healthy bacteria that helps to support digestion, urinary tract and gut health. The brand Eu Natural is actually highly recommended when it comes to natural products. I will attach a link so you can read more into it. But definitely a go for me:

Wow thank you for the fast reply and advice. So no wirey, partially awake nights anymore? Hopefully?

Edit: Also do you recommend I buy this one of 250 grams or this one of 500 mg (I would have to take a lot of them to reach 3000 mg)

Edit 2: Nevermind the 500 mg is actually a 1,500 mg dose :)

u/mossyskeleton · 2 pointsr/Lyme

It could be that you're still in "sleep mode" when you wake up in the middle of the night, and your mindbody is dissociated from your aches and pains...

i.e. you haven't "turned on" yet, and so your psychosomatic pain menagerie hasn't paraded into consciousness like it does when the sun breaks over the horizon. Body chemical communication and all that.

---

QUESTION: Have you been treated with antibiotics? Are body aches one of your most constant issues?

(The below is a promotional advertisement. That said, the only thing I have to gain from this is a potential additional guinea pig other than myself to see what happens when this is introduced into a daily diet against treating Lyme Arthritis.)

I may have discovered an intriguing and incredibly simple treatment today. Recent studies have shown that Lyme bacteria shed their membranes while growing and replicating... and that these membranes stick around in the joints for a long time.. and these may be what causes persistent inflammation after a Lyme infection.

There is an easily obtainable over the counter way to potentially reduce the inflammation caused by this. It is called Glycine and it is commonly used and available (you can buy it at any decent vitamin/supplement store, or in bulk on Amazon), and the body handles it very well.

I'm going to be taking approximately 30g per day.

Can you share which one you order from Amazon? Any at a lower price? And do you think pink himalayan salt would work for adding to food? That's what I use and I supplement with iodine from kelp since it's almost absent in American diets.

Edit: this is the one and it's way priced real high

Ah you again.

Dr. Stoller uses the latest medical research in his medical practice. You can read all about it in his book (Incurable Me: Why the Best Medical Research Does Not Make It into Clinical Practice https://www.amazon.com/dp/1510707980/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Pa4-Bb1YBW0QT). It’s because of him I am even functional enough to reply and write this. He’s arguably saved my life.

Are his methods conventional? Not at all. Do they work? Yes, many of them do because they’re backed by the latest clinical research.

When it comes to Lyme disease, he’s well researched and educated. He’s successfully treated people with Lyme disease for over 30+ years.

His opinions on vaccinations aren’t relevant to treating Lyme disease. With that said, I personally know people who have experienced health problems due to vaccines. One of my old clients son was disabled for many years by an HPV vaccine, and now requires blood pressure medications to function again. While I don’t know if vaccines can cause autism, I do know that there are sometimes negative side effects to vaccines.

In fact, a senator just died after receiving a flu vaccine that he himself was promoting. https://www.learntherisk.org/other/senator-dies-of-flu-shot/

Anyhow, I would much rather see a doctor who is suspicious of the current medical system and uses the latest medical research to treat patients then the dozens of doctors who misdiagnosed me and allowed my infections to become chronic and nearly killed me. Dr. Stoller saved my life, I can’t say that for any other doctor since childhood.

This book is a must-read in my opinion. It’s all the things we should have learned about our cycle but were never taught. It’ll teach you how to read your body to know when you are and aren’t fertile. The chapter on hormonal birth control and all of its deleterious effects is eye-opening and maddening. I’d use only non-hormonal methods of birth control.

I've long suspected that Eddie McSweegan's little novel "Deliberate Release" that he wrote while being paid to do nothing at the NIH as the Lyme Disease Program Manager was a veiled threat to his superiors when they suspended him. This was covered by 60 minutes years ago in a segment entitled "The Man With No Work". It's supposed to be a novel, but my guess is that this was McSweegan's pathetic passive-aggressive attempt to let the gov't know that if they tried to fire him, he'd become a whistle blower regarding the release of Borrelia burgdorferi.

I've had 2 Lyme blood tests done now and both came back negative. I am still convinced I have it as I pulled off 7 ticks from myself during fishing in summer of 2018 and am exhibiting every single symptom to a t. I am going for another test next Tuesday and can expect another 1-2 weeks for the results again. It started with joint pain which I thought was from years at the gym but seemed unusual as my joints in my finger and shoulder just wouldn't heal for months. I finally got hit by the worst headache of my life in December while being at the gym, I thought I was having a stroke, had a catscan and an mri and both look fine so no stroke. Now I have a daily headache and insane weakness which has caused me to stop working. My heart hurts at random intervals throughout the day and my muscles sometimes spasm. My eye vision has gotten worse for no reason except some sort of neurological issues. The most worrying part is when my hearth beats so hard that my stomach actually shakes. I also feel very sick for 1-3 hours every time I eat. I have however started taking a easily made tincture which has helped me extensively. Basically just 6 drops of stevia extract and a tablespoon of each of these just boiled in hot water twice a day.

I recommend giving it a try as these are all known for killing lyme disease quite efficiently, worst case scenario you're wrong and don't have lyme and will just have a bunch of extra spices laying around the house. For anyone that's not aware Lyme bacteria carry a toxin which gets released into your bloodstream when the bacteria's cell walls break when they die which will make you feel much worse as you're being poisoned as you get better. I've been using this for a week now and the improvement is significant even though I felt much worse for the first 5 days.
