Here is the rail I use. It's very easy to install. You get a punch to remove the pin that holds in the rear sight and knock it out. The punch from an AK cleaning kit fits perfectly. Take off the sight and slide the leaf spring out. It just slide forward and out. Then line up the hole on the bottom of the rail with the hole left by the pin and put in the screws. Then use the included hex screws to balance it out and set the screws. Everything necessary is included except the punch which is easily acquired anyway. And the hex screws fit nicely in the mosin cleaning kit as well as the punch.

This is the sight I use. Very nice red dot and pretty affordable. My friend has one on his .22 and it's great.

And I'm looking to get these for the sight soon. 37.7mm fits the tasco red dot perfectly.

Unfortunately I have not fired my mosin since the installation of either of these parts as I just got them last week so hopefully the hold up well to how hard the mosin kicks.

Really pleased with this mount. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009ZKHD3S/ref=pe_175190_21431760_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

Solid as a rock and mounts well to the dovetail. I left my rear pin in and filed a little off of the mount so that the pin acts as a stop bar. If I cared a little more about looks I'd have drilled holes instead. But honestly it doesn't need more than the included stopper as long as you drill a small impression for the pin. Also Pleased with this scope if you are looking for that too. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FH6M00/ref=pe_175190_21431760_3p_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

Yeah...a Lee press is like $30. https://www.amazon.com/Lee-Reloading-Press-Md-90045/dp/B002SF4X5I/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1504265516&sr=1-1&keywords=lee+reloading+press
Lee RGB Dies are $20. You'll save a lot of headaches.

Case trimming......If you really want to do it the ghetto way, you can use a piece of sandpaper, laying it flat on a table and rubbing the case mouth in a consistent manner on the sandpaper. Alternately you can use a coutersink bit from Home depot and just hog off the excess brass with a hand drill. Trim die is probably your next cheapest option.

Digital scale like this is alright....just check it with a known value each time you use it. Use a bullet or a pellet gun pellet or something. If you're using a middle burn rate powder like IMR4064 or Tac or something...you have to be pretty far off...by probably ten grains... before it gets dangerous if you're going for a middle of the road charge. Consistency is more important for accuracy.

Simple ram type primer....or just use the priming function of the lee loader you already have....

And then a set of calipers to check your length

its available on amazon, i have a hard copy version but i can take and send you photos if needed. came with my '44 izhvesk pu sniper. thr sniper version has all the regular mosin nagant stuff in it, plus lots of weird cool historical stuff in it, like targeting paratroopers, ranging, estimating speed, and holdover for bombers and fighter planes (not kidding about that), and info on using other equipment like an issued periscope and standards for qualifying probpems with the pu sniper rifle.

its pretty damn cool.

Not a problem. It sounds a little confusing how I paraphrased it, I'm sure, but the rifle's manual itself goes pretty in-depth with it.

You can order one here: http://www.amazon.com/Official-Soviet-Mosin-Nagant-Rifle-Manual/dp/158160081X

The one I have is the sniper rifle manual (M91/30 PU), but the "regular" manual here goes over the carbines, too. I should definitely pick up a copy of this one sometime, too.

I bought this cheap flexible LED flashlight off Amazon. Works pretty well. Thanks for the feedback.

Best book in English on the Mosin Nagant ever written

u/joe_canadian · 2 pointsr/MosinNagant

I second Plano. I've got their Gun Guard which is supposed to fit a single scoped rifle or shotgun.

It's 52" long, which fits my 1942 91/30 with ease.

u/BioChemistryStudent · 2 pointsr/MosinNagant

If you don't mind, I'd actually advise picking up one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-RTX-B-3-Speed-Rotary/dp/B000MUSLCC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416532678&sr=8-1&keywords=Black+and+Decker+dremel

The motor is higher quality and higher amps than a Dremel, so it lasts longer, and wont burn it's self out if you start using it. Uses all the dremel accessories too! :)

Get him some interesting ammo, you should be able to find at least four or five different varieties to test out, both commercial and surplus, if you go to a gun show. Maybe get him a book to provide some history relevant to use of the Mosin Nagant rifle, i thought this one was interesting https://www.amazon.com/Frozen-Hell-Russo-Finnish-Winter-1939-1940/dp/1565122496/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543462642&sr=8-1&keywords=a+frozen+hell. It’s not as much inside baseball as some military history.

I have an ATI mosin Nagant stock, I'm pretty sure they have only one style but this is what it is http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Mosin-Nagant-7-62x54R-Monte/dp/B000HOT2SK

  1. Cap the end of the barrel. I ate a bunch of cheese and made a wax cap. Bonus, you get to eat cheese for this step.

  2. Pour a bunch of Kroil in the breech. Do this outside in case the wax cap doesn't hold.

  3. Let it soak for 24 hours.

  4. Uncap it, pour that foul shit out, go to town with a bore brush. Scrub and scrub and scrub some more.

  5. Rifle is fine. Shoot any remaining corrosion out.

I had my mosin zeroed at 100 yards, but the crosshairs was up in the top left corner, not centered, I thought it was just messed up. That website is how I found out about the elevation screws on the side. All I had to do was set my elevation knob at 1 and my windage at 0 and buy one of these http://www.amazon.com/Caliber-Cartridge-Sighter-Nagant-Boresighter/dp/B002OL3NZW/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1380768670&sr=1-1&keywords=Mosin+laser and then just messed with the elevation screws on the base of the scope until it was where I wanted it.
