Good quality as in: Will work for Nerf stuff for a while, or solid build quality where you won't have to replace it often?
If you want to go for something that's no-worries and will probably last for the foreseeable future, the Hakko FX888 is SOLID.
Anything else I'd consider "nice" would have to have a soldering iron holder and temperature control that I trust. Very nice features, because if you leave the iron sitting for a while and don't tin the tip, the heat will start to oxidize/damage the finish of the tip and become unusable. This can also happen on any iron if you leave it running hot for a while, but something that's temperature-controlled rather than with an arbitrary power knob will keep your iron tip intact much longer.
Mid-tier would be something with variable power control but not temp control. You might be able to get away with lowering the power while you work instead of turning it off.
The "Amazon Special" that UNW1 linked is a fantastic soldering iron for the price, plenty of power whereas other cheap irons won't heat up quickly enough. I'd recommend it for most people starting out, since it's great for learning the basics + soldering iron care. There is practically no temperature control on the thing though. I turned it way down to minimum (Claimed 200-250C, which is nowhere near hot enough to melt solder) and it still threatened to overheat.
I've heard of irons that are even better than the Hakko/similar models in terms of where the heating element's located, other features... but I don't have much expertise in the field and haven't seen a need for those. As far as I'm concerned, $100 is as high as you need to go for now, and $50 can probably get you set up with a solid iron.
No worries; I saw your replies come in over notifications and noticed the same thing. I checked with the mods, and we think it's just some weirdness with Reddit, since it looks like they're having some errors right now.
You are correct that I would not suggest running 4 IFRs.
The voltages you found are nominal voltages at rest; under load, the voltages will drop, especially when the motors overdraw the motors as much as with Alkalines and their measly 500 mA current capabilities. NiMH cells are much more capable while still being far more stable than 14500 (AA-sized) li-ion cells like the Coolooks, so their voltage while the motors are spun up should be higher than Alkaline cells. For example, Eneloops are capable of providing 10 A, though they are on the top end of the spectrum of NiMH cells.

To your other question about AA-sized cells to safely hit 85 fps, that's not possible without modification. With NiMH cells like Eneloops and a rewire to remove most of the highly resistive components, you might hit 85 fps with a Rayvenfire (white) or Elite (Blue) Rayven. I'm less certain about the original (green) or Stinger (yellow) Rayvens since they were build for the N-strike range, which had much lower fps than the Elite line.
On Eneloops alone, I'd expect a 5-10 fps boost, and an another 5-10 fps from a rewire.
Eneloops are generally considered the best NiMH cells based on a number of tests as well as general availability. You can get them on Amazon for pretty cheap, or you can also pick up rewrapped cells (the same internal cell with a different label) like the AmazonBasics rechargeable batteries or the Ikea Ladda batteries.

My concern is less for the motors heating up and more for the batteries and battery contacts heating up. The fps numbers you recorded seem to support* that something isn't quite right. A stock Rayven on an 11.1 V 3S lipo should hit 105-110 fps pretty consistently. 4 Coolooks form an effective 12.8 V 4S pack; with a 1.7 V nominal increase over the lipo, I would expect higher fps, not a median 10-15 fps lower. That said, if the circuit is highly resistive (bleeding voltage to heat) and the cells are overdrawn and sagging, that would explain lost fps.

* FPS readings do have some variance Chrono to Chrono, so it's not perfect.
Any good quality generic NiMH's will work. Generic NiMH batteries are good for 500 charge cycles, and the best ones will typically hold their charge 1 year. Genuine AA Eneloop NiMH batteries are good for 2100 charge cycles, and will hold their charge for 10 years minimum. You need to buy generic NiMH batteries AT LEAST FIVE TIMES to match a real Eneloop battery. You won't save money that way.
The reason Eneloop is recommended instead is because they last much longer, and that makes them much more economical, even though they work exactly the same as all other NiMH's (even the bad ones). When you get Eneloops, get these ones (make sure your battery specifications match the packaging in this photo):
Get this package first to get the highest quality charger on the market:
> A nice -dv/dt termination with only a small temperature increase and no trickle charge, this looks very good. [...] The charger is very good at filling the batteries.
You need that charger to get the full life out of Eneloops. If you take care of them, Eneloops will last at least a decade, maybe longer.
If you can get a good balancing charger and can be responsible and safe with it, a lipo will definitely be better than IMRs as far as performance goes. If you do go with lipos, you should probably get a better rev switch.
Here's a good rev switch:

Pick your favorite retail store. See if they'll beat this price. Otherwise you'd do best going by Amazon.
If you want more legit, your best bet will be here. Yes, that says 75 darts. You won't get any packages larger than that currently, without resorting to China's packs of 200 at at time.
Yes, but I'm pretty sure it's just easier to buy a cheap airsoft red dot.

This one should clamp down to actually fit N-Strike rails if you don't to bother with rail adapters.
OK, I need to clarify this.
When the motors are not firing balls, and as long as I have my finger on the trigger, the motors will run great, and not slow down. So they appear to be working great.
However, It's when they are shooting balls that there is a problem. When they are firing the balls for a solid 10-15 seconds, the motors start to slow down, and sound like the battery is dying.
The battery has a 20C constant rating with 30C burst discharge rate.
The battery I'm using is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0072AEY5I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'll admit that I'm having to read up on the C rating right now. I don't know much about that. Is a 20C battery too low? Or maybe it's just not made to be held down continuously?
Thanks again with all the help you've given me. It really means a lot.
Cardio Cardio Cardio. And some tac gear is not a bad thing if you are aware of how to use it. I recommend this guy. It is easy to modify with some longer velcro straps to fit any clip size. And that tac vest has some room for expansion. I also have this dump pouch.
I've also got a workout guide to get you in shape and ready for some running Here. I wrote this for me and it has already started but you should be able to catch up.
And make sure you have fun and lots of it.
The nerf rebelle 4victory is actually a great choice. Smaller than the hammershot and more reliable. It is as fast and as easy to load as the triad and can be primed with one hand.
I know it's not the question you asked, but related. This pouch fits a 35 drum perfectly. It's almost like it was made for it. The bottom is flat too, so it's not awkward or anything.

A few people have said it but: Hammershot, Strongarm, and Roughcut.
If you head to target the Hammershot is $14.99 http://www.target.com/p/nerf-zombie-strike-hammershot-blaster/-/A-14497493#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=nerf
The Strongarm isn't on Target.com right now but is in stores, but it is also on Amazon and it's only about $10 http://www.amazon.com/Nerf-N-Strike-Elite-Strongarm-Blaster/dp/B009T45XDW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406649798&sr=8-2&keywords=nerf
The Roughcut is $16.99 http://www.target.com/p/nerf-n-strike-elite-rough-cut-2x4/-/A-14280678#prodSlot=medium_1_55&term=nerf
You can order from Amazon if you have a few days. I would say Strongarms and lots of extra ammo, but I love the Hammershot.
Thanks to BL reader Matthew for the tip. It looks like Hasbro is trying to get these off of shelves...
The solution is simple, really.
The one I painted and used on my Stampede is an NcStar Tippmann Red Dot Sight with Weaver Base and is $9.95 on Amazon. It fit onto a Nerf rail without any modification.
And Zombona is right that sights are not terribly useful on Nerf, but they are neat looking. :-)
I really like the Buzz Bee Western Rifle for just... fun factor. It's just a fun thing to use. It's not a good blaster, but the fact that it's lever-action and ejects shells... It just makes you smile to use.
This is complete overkill for NERF needs but Weller is known for high quality soldering irons
This is the one I use but it's over your budget (I do more than NERF stuff)
This is what I would recommend for starting out. It's good but totally not stupid expensive.
I would avoid soldering irons that don't have the cradle/base (although you can buy a cradle separately)
Carrying blasters- A simple one or two point sling works great for primaries. Holsters are available all over from loads of places for carrying secondaries.
A basic Molle vest or battlebelt offers great flexibility if you want more overall coverage.
Mag pouches and pod holders offer belt mounting for less money.
Lots of other gear on the gear up database.
Avoid all the Nerf or PPG gear, it's awful.
I ended up using a rig like this for a year when I mained my Zeus.
Condor M4 Mag Pouch - MOLLE
If you don't use Molle, I used the same rig with this belt:
JT Paintball Pod Holder
I did add some tubing to make them friction fit and they never fell out while running.
I was able to hold 4 12-round sticks easily with this setup and used it for a long time.
You can see how it holds up here in one of our videos (I'm the guy w/ the green bandanna).

No idea how much they draw, but I'm using this 2200mAh 20C battery with no issues:
https://www.amazon.com/Turnigy-2200mAh-20C-Lipo-Pack/dp/B0072AEY5I/
Your diagram is exactly how I wired mine, only difference is I spliced together the negatives to save wire. Should be good to go.

Also, on the Super Soaker front, a new listing for something called a "Microburst 2" (
and is probably a mere remold of the original three shot piston squirternah, looks like a straight-up squirt gun like the crap from last year; the original Microburst at least had a nice piston pump for its size) but is actually branded and packaged as the "ZombieStrike Extinguisher": http://www.amazon.com/SuperSoaker-Microburst-Blaster-Water-Soaking/dp/B00MXT4Y8U/I use these in UCP for both paintball and Nerf. They hold 2 pods or 4x18's perfectly, and will close, albeit barely, over the 18's. Academy sports has them for ~$12.
these https://www.amazon.com/Official-Nerf-N-Strike-75-Dart-Refill/dp/B00JMJS1WY/ref=sr_1_15?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1496511942&sr=1-15&keywords=nerf+darts
then try these https://www.amazon.com/Yosoo-400pcs-Refill-N-strike-Blasters/dp/B00YZOEOT0/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1496512097&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=nerf+darts&psc=1
the 400 round pack will be way more fun then 75
Don't forget the Sledgefire for $15. And for anybody thinking of getting one just for the shells, they're currently 3 for $5 with free shipping direct from Hasbro here.
I personally use clear Poly tubing from amazon for my barrels. It's a hair larger ID than cpvc, great for stefans and half lengths but a bit too tight for stock darts.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OMJ4YW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hammershots and Slingfires would be your go-to in this case, I agree.
--
Also maybe some Buzz Bee Doubleshots for that double-barrel break-open action.
--
EDIT: OP, not sure how much you like/dislike shells, but there's also the [Buzz Bee Rapid Fire Rifle](http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000GL1OL2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1463624503&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=buzz+bee+rapid+fire(
), which is lever-action like the Slingfire but uses shells that eject after each shot. I own one with around 40 shells, it needs more prep and cleanup than the Slingfire but can confirm you'll feel like a bad-ass gunslinger.
According to Amazon, the Maverick upgrade spring package is 7" x 12.8" x 2.8". Easiest upgrade ever, installation couldn't be simpler.
>please let me know if you know what the game is going to be like.
You will be starting on hard mode coming there, count on it. It's gonna be all the hvz vets from around the country showing up.
>Stryfe and reliability comments
First of all, get that thing squared away. NO stock wiring, NO stock motors, NO stock switches and NO 14500 cells allowed and don't even think about it being still stock in toy form. You will be playing a high stakes game and you will also have a lot of high end guns on the field as the status quo.
Motors- You can get Rhinos from Duke_Wintermaul and Containment Crew in the US or you can use Banshee 130 (check /u/foam_data post history, he links a fleabay listing recently).
Batteries, wire, connectors, chargers- Hobbyking
Switch- Omron V-214-1C6, buy from digikey.com
If you need tech help, feel free to bug me about it as much as you want, I have infinite patience for those who want to do stuff properly.
>can you plz link me tac gear you like and use(also affordable) in the comments
http://www.amazon.com/JT-Pod-Paintball-Harness-Black/dp/B00ERDEHT6 fits 4 mags, includes belt. That ought to be a good start.
Huh. That's pretty inventive. Papercraft Nerfing.
Of course you are aware the Buzzbee made an actual flintlock foam blaster, right?
I don't run a dump pouch, so I have no personal experience. However, VISM makes a dump pouch. It's able to fit 8 18 round stick mags.
The Elite Alpha Trooper or Retaliator (or Recon MKII if that's easier to find) will be most different from what he already has, being larger magazine-fed blasters. If you think you may mod them in the future, lean towards the Retaliator/MKII as it's a little sturdier.
As u/The_Backwoods_Nerfer pointed out only having one magazine can be tedious, but you can buy an extra flip clip or banana mag on Amazon fairly cheaply.
If you can find evidence supporting these claims, I'd like to see it.
I doubt the fact that the ammo is slightly decorated has any effect on anything, really. Also the prices vary. Take these examples from Amazon, it will show you that there has been an increase in some cases and a decrease in others. The ZombieStrike and Rebelle series have always had decorated refill packs, so they don't apply to the "change."
Elite Darts, 75 pack, decorated.
Undecorated 75 pack Elites.
Elite Darts, 30 pack, decorated.
Elite Darts, 30 pack, undecorated.
Decorated MEGA 20 pack.
Undecorated original MEGA refill pack. Multiply by 2 because it's a 10 pack
Zombiestrike standard Elite streamline refills have always been decorated.
I can't find the Zed Squad Mega refills on Amazon, but I checked Target and they're $9.95 for a refill of 10.
Rebelle has been known for having decorated refill packs, like ZombieStrike.
Rebelle Refill pack
Another Rebelle Refill pack
And this Rebelle Refill pack
Practice purpose? I can think of one: people could use decorated ammo to identify their darts in a war. It's not all of the darts in the packs that are decorated, only about 1/3 of them. Another practical purpose: Indicate when you're running out of ammo and when it's time to reload. You could place one decorated dart at the end of your clip and have the rest undecorated. Since the packs have more than one, you can disperse them among your clips.
New isn't always bad.
Edit: Added data for comparison.

im on the line about that tbh with the roughcut I have one but the sledgefire can handle rush's very well lets say someone is hiding behind cover out of ammo and I cover them and someone goes for a flank at 15 ft whould you rather have curved darts fly and hopefully circle back in for a hit or a triangle shaped projectile that goes straight that very hard to dodge but the roughcut you can just slamfire 8 darts into someone switch out do your double strike and do what you were doing
For assassins I have two jolts on me at all times and usually a Rebelle 4Victory in a shoulder holster (It comes with a holster that I hang on a belt strapped around my chest). I also have a doublestrike with a homemade holster either in a shoulder holster or on the back of my belt. I'd recommend any/all of these (doublestrike only for close quarters).
For Jolts, if you can split the price with other team members, THIS:

They're $10.50 for two 12s (they come attached but you can separate them) along with 24 elite darts.
Just so you know, the clipazines that come with the Modulus Flip Clip are entirely opaque (not see-through), and have tabs along the sides that you can see in the picture.

Here's one for fairly cheap. From HobbyKing.

Here's a GenAce battery that works too.
These?
$18 Apollos
$32 Artemesis (Artemisies?)
$24 Sledgefires
Haven't had any hands on experience but this might work. Is suppose to have an interior diameter of 1/2" instead of the 15/32" that the cpvc seems to have.
I wouldn't recommend elites for this though, foam is just too squishy.
Generally, there's only a couple top tier mod types.
Then you have your budget builds,
Rivals,
_
But yeah, most people a 3S Stryfe mod is plenty for most players.

Just get yourself a bunch of 18 mags, and a condor 3 fold dump pouch, or vism chest rig.
Also me personally I usually run an ammo pouch, with a large ziploc bag, with 2 vertical pieces of duct tape on one side, and then 2 cuts for belt loops.
I use these with my Foxfire builds. They are roughly the same size as the screws that come with the Stryfe (the head is slightly bigger) but they are a much harder steel. You won't easily strip them out with a screwdriver.
I must be confused about how switches are rated. This was is listed as a 15A rating. Which should be adequate right? Or maybe you were meaning that for the given size of the switch it could have a higher amp rating?
These are a direct replacement for most shell screws.
I use These
I found polycarbonate tubing to work well for Men Gun darts, and the 6MILES darts are of similar shape. The tubing has a .509 inch diameter bore.
Hehe and then there's this guy which is a Big Shock for regular $67.94 on sale for $12.99. But it's amazon and we all know how messed up amazon can be. https://www.amazon.ca/Nerf-A9314-NERF-Nstrike-Bigshock/dp/B00LD6KJTC/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys&ie=UTF8&qid=1511209223&sr=1-3&keywords=nerf
Hey guys, making a post about finding replacement screws. I have looked up previous questions and only found some useful things from it. The basic thing is that for the 'regular' sized screws, I can use this. Not sure about it, because the answers to a question about Nerf on there basically cancel each out. From my measurements, the common screw sizes are 3/8", 5/16", and either 7/16" or 1/2". The only problem I have is the thread count, I don't know whether to use a coarse thread or a fine thread for the replacement screws. I can barely get a quarter of the screws off to tell if they're too rusted or if they've been stripped (leaning more towards rust). The recommended screw is #3-24, but it's likely that I'll be opening up my Longshot quite a few times in the future. So should I just use that thread count or opt for a coarser thread count to keep the blaster together?
TL;DR What the f%&* is thread count and what screws should I use for my Longshot?
P.S. If I read any comments about just thrifting some Mavericks or something for the screws, I'll label it as spam. I'm looking for help, not snark.
