If you're not opposed to getting things separately, then I have some recommendations and suggestions. There's also some info you should know if you want to get better value for your money. I've explained in the least technical way I can. Just ask if you have questions.

🎧 Headphones

---

Open-back:

  • AKG K612 Pro
  • AKG K701
  • AKG K702
  • Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x
  • Audio-Technica ATH-AD900x
  • Beyerdynamic DT880
  • Beyerdynamic DT990
  • Philips Fidelio X2
  • Sennheiser Game One (headset)
  • Sennheiser HD558/HD579
  • Sennheiser HD598/HD599

    Closed-back:

  • AKG K550
  • Audio Technica ATH-MSR7
  • Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus
  • Beyerdynamic DT770
  • Sennheiser Game Zero (headset)
  • V-MODA Crossfade M-100

The first thing you should determine is whether you need sound isolation or not.

  • Open-back: the earcups have perforations/openings that allow sound to freely pass through. This often provides a larger soundstage and better imaging.

  • Closed-back: the earcups have solid shells that isolate sound from passing through to various extent.

Next, you should figure out which sound signature you prefer.

  • Balanced/flat/neutral: doesn't over- or under-emphasize the bass or treble.
  • Warm: emphasizes the bass.
  • Dark: recesses the treble. A headphone can be warm and dark.
  • Bright: emphasizes the treble. Bass may be recessed.
  • U-shape: emphasizes the bass and treble a little.
  • V-shape: emphasizes the bass and treble more than U-shaped.
  • Mid-forward: the mids are louder than the bass and treble. The mids may be emphasized or the bass and treble may be recessed.

Sub-bass is where rumble lies. This is easier to find in closed-back headphones. Mid-bass is where impact lies.

Lastly, you should know what sound characteristics constitute positional audio and pertain to immersion.

  • Soundstage: is produced by the headphone, not the game. It's perceived space and environment of sound. It's the size of the sound field. A small soundstage makes the environment around you sound confined or boxed in. With a large soundstage, the environment sounds much more spatial, open and natural. You can't comprehend it without experiencing it.

  • Imaging: is inherent to the audio content. It's how accurately the locations of sounds/objects are reproduced.

  • Separation: is how you discern individual sounds from a range of overlapping sounds. This is only important for competitive shooters.

Of the listed headphones, I have Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x, Beyerdynamic DT990 (600 ohms), Philips Fidelio X2 and Sennheiser HD598.

  • AD700x: is bright with recessed sub-bass. It has clean bass and a little harsh treble. It has a huge soundstage, excellent imaging, separation and clarity, and great detail retrieval.

It has a lightweight and durable build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads are made of smooth, non-itchy velour and are very soft. They have a good size and depth for average sized adult ears and have very good quality. The clamping force isn't too tight or too loose for an average sized adult head. The wing design is a gimmick to me; the headphone slides down and rests on my ears, but using a headband cover like this prevents it from happening and makes the headphone extremely comfortable to wear.

  • DT990: has emphasized mid-bass, recessed sub-bass, and very emphasized treble. The bass is clean. The treble is slightly splashy and somewhat sharp. It has a huge soundstage and excellent imaging, separation, clarity and detail retrieval. The 600-ohm version requires an external/dedicated headphone amplifier or a sound card.

It has a lightweight and sturdy build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads are made of silky smooth velour and are very soft. They have a good size and depth and have great quality. The clamping force is just right. It's extremely comfortable to wear.

  • Fidelio X2: has emphasized sub-and mid-bass and treble. It has clean bass and smooth treble, meaning the treble isn't harsh, scratchy, splashy, piercing or anything else that's offensive to the ears. The soundstage is very wide, like the others I've mentioned, but it lacks some depth. It's probably only noticeable if you play competitively or compare it head-to-head with other headphones that are deeper. This affects the imaging from front to back somewhat. The imaging from left to right is excellent. Separation and clarity are excellent. Detail retrieval is great. The bass overpowers sound cues a lot.

It's a little heavy and has a sturdy build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads have great quality and are soft, very roomy, and made of smooth velour. The clamping force is more on the tighter side. The comfort is very good.

  • HD598: is mid-forward with recessed sub-bass. It has clean bass and smooth treble. I haven't used it much, so my impressions of its competitive performance are that it has a large soundstage and good imaging, separation and detail retrieval. Clarity is excellent.

It has a lightweight and sturdy build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads are soft and made of smooth velour. They have a good size and depth and have very good quality. The clamping force is tight, especially when the headphone is new. It's comfortable to wear.

I also compare to AKG K52, AKG Q701, HiFiMan HE400i (the revision), HiFiMan HE500, HyperX Cloud, Philips SHP9500, Monoprice Monolith M1060, Sennheiser HD700, Sennheiser HD800, Superlux HD662 EVO, Superlux HD668B, Superlux HD669, Superlux HD681 EVO, Tritton Pro+ and Turtle Beach Ear Force XP Seven MLG Pro.

My evaluations are based on games -- not music. I test headphones mostly in BF:BC2, BF3, BF4 and R6S.

    🔊 Microphones

    ---

  • Antlion ModMic 4: it attaches magnetically to a base that sticks to either earcup. It's easy to attach and detach and doesn't fall off unless you accidentally hit it or violently move your head around. The mic has a flexible neck and can be tilted up and out of sight. It has a very good build quality and great sound quality for voice chat. It's compatible with all headphones.

  • V-MODA BoomPro: it inserts directly into the headphone, replacing the original headphone cable. It's compatible with Philips Fidelio X2 and V-MODA Crossfade M-100. It has a great build quality with an aluminum gooseneck and a tangle-free and braided cable. It has volume and mic mute controls. It has great sound quality for voice chat.

    Alternatives:

  • Antlion ModMic 5
  • Audio-Technica AT2020USB
  • Blue Snowball
  • Blue Yeti
  • Massdrop Minimic (currently unavailable)
  • Neewer Clip on Mini Lapel Microphone
  • Samson Go
  • Sony ECMCS3
  • Zalman ZM-Mic1

    Additional gear and accessories

    ---

Volume and mic mute control for use with DS4:

  • adjustR
  • Fosmon
  • Insignia
  • Lucid Sound AdjustR

    USB adapters:

  • BENGOO
  • Ugreen, single jack
  • Ugreen, dual jacks

    Amplifier and DAC combos:

  • Audioengine D1
  • FX Audio DAC-X6
  • Micca OriGen G2
  • Schiit Magni 3 + FiiO D3
  • SMSL SD793-II

To use an amp, you need a DAC (digital-to-analog converter) because USB and optical are digital signals and PS4 has no analog outputs. USB DACs may reverse the left and right channels or not work at all, so I have only included DACs that use optical, which is completely reliable. You can use an HDMI-to-optical converter if you have Slim.

    Sound cards:

  • Astro MixAmp Pro TR
  • Creative Sound BlasterX G1
  • Creative Sound BlasterX G5
  • Turtle Beach Elite Pro TAC

    Setup

    ---

To connect the headphone and ModMic, Minimic, Neewer clip-on mic, ECMCS3 or ZM-Mic1 to the controller, you need a Y-splitter with three black rings on the connector, which is called a TRRS or 4-pole Y-splitter.

If you want to use an amp and a DAC, then the mic must connect to the controller with a Y-splitter. The headphone connects directly to the amp. To avoid this clutter, you can use a sound card / USB adapter instead. You may have to use a Y-splitter if it has just one jack.

The BoomPro doesn't require a Y-splitter and works only with the controller, sound cards, and other devices that have a TRRS jack, meaning they are designed for headsets. The BoomPro doesn't work with amps and DACs.

Well, for general emulation of older system - your best bet might be a phone if you have a semi-recent model. Just get a blue-tooth controller cradle, and maybe even check to see if your phone can cast it's screen to your TV for full-screen. You can even emulate the Dreamcast on modern android phones via Reicast.

I prefer the Vita - but there's some caveats. Most importantly, you have to install custom firmware, which is against Sony's terms of service. I've never heard of anybody being banned, but it's possible at pretty much any time. So if you go that route, make a new account that's not tied to your PS4's library. Installing CFW merely requires you to be on official firmware 3.60 and under, and then visiting a certain site. The process is pretty much automated. A better option may be the PSP - which has a much worse screen, but better controls for playing classic games IMO. You don't need a PSN login for the PSP, so no risk of being banned, and CFW is as easy to install as starting up a game. The Playstation (Vita) TV is another good option which will let you use a DS4 (or I assume compatible PS4 arcade sticks) - but functionally, works the same as the Vita. They're pretty cheap - but memory cards are ungodly expensive for meager space. Thankfully, with the PSTV running CFW, you can use USB thumb drives - and the Vita can now use SDCards via a Game Cart converter. In all of those cases, you'll need access to a PC at least temporarily (or maybe you can do it on a phone if there's a decent FTP server program) so that you can download and move the necessary files over.

There's very few actual emulators written so far for the Vita, and most of the ones you'll want are accessed through a homebrew called Adrenaline - which basically turns the Vita into a PSP. They just released a custom bubble installer for Adrenaline too, that way you can just launch the PSP emulator you want right from the home menu without having to actually go into Adrenaline first. On the downside, since these are all running via the Vita's built-in PSP functionality - you're limited to the PSP's specs... which means it can only emulate up to N64 era games (PSX games run great, N64 - not so much). No Dreamcast emulation, sadly. Maybe later natively on the Vita, but that's going to be a stretch.

Couldn't say much about the homebrew scene on the Xbox 360, since I haven't followed it. I'm sure there is. There's also an actual potential good reason to get a (cheap) Xbox One - since you can sign up for the Developer Program which will let you side-load homebrew/emulators onto the system. It doesn't seem very popular so far, and will require a connection to a Windows 10 PC.

Overall, I'd say the best and easiest bet would be to get a PSP 3000 for on-the-go, or if you want a more arcade experience in the livingroom, and you want it cheap - then a VitaTV and a good PS4 Arcade stick. Just, again... make sure it's running Official Firmware 3.6 or lower. The necessary exploits won't work on newer firmwares.

I assume you are asking about these:

https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500S-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW

Higher quality/high fidelity audio compatible equipment would mostly only benefit you if you had hi res audio to listen to in the first place, plus with that relatively small impedance of 32 ohms they are very easily powered, the jack on the DS4 is enough. These are relatively low-tier headphones so don't go too high on externals for them, it won't help as much as you want them too, but they will help nonetheless.

A small/portable amp for the these headphones would do some good for you in games where 3D/spatial/positional sound awareness can give you an advantage in game, such as in FPS games. If you play those a lot, especially competitively, I recommend it.
If we are talking about the same headphones, then that 12-35 Hz range will be awesome for what I just mentioned, as lower frequencies (especially when amplified) will make footsteps easier to make out.
I don't know if you use a seperate pair of cans for music but if you use these then they should sound pretty good, more so with that sub-$100 price tag, and especially so with an amp. An amp is a bit of overkill on these as with all easy-to-drive headphones, but hey, overkill is fun. Bear in mind that these are open-back headphones, so sound will leak both into and from your environment, as you might've experienced already, so an amp would help compensate.

All in all, no, you don't "NEED" an amp, but you'll most likely find them fun to use for music and advantageous for certain games, so go ahead and try them out, just do your research.

TL:DR; No but get them anyways kek

I have the PX51 which are pretty much the same as the PX4 just with a different transmitter. Excellent headset, but mine is also starting to show its age. I also have the XO Seven, which is a technically an Xbox One headset. But works great on PS4 plugged into the controller. XO Seven has a really good mic and great sound quality. I use that XO Seven when playing with friends and the PX51 for playing solo or watching movies. The XO Sevens are a little bit tight fitting though. I have always had good luck with the quality of Turtle Beach though. I tried the Astro A50 but did not like them as much as the PX51.

I have been eyeing the V-Moda BoomPro though. Thinking of pairing it with the Philips SHP9500. Non gaming headset. Comes out to about $107 from Amazon.

I have a Pro with a 2TB drive installed internally. This is the drive I'm using. I just took the 2TB HDD out of the enclosure (which does void the HDD's warranty FYI) and put the 1TB HDD from the Pro back in the enclosure and use it as extra storage on my PC.

I didn't end up installing a solid state drive in my Pro. I don't care enough about load times to spend so much more money on an SSD vs a traditional HDD.

This guide has some good info to help you do the HDD swap, with pictures to help you make sure you are doing everything correctly.

If you aren't planning on backing up any of your data, the entire process takes about 15-20 minutes and is super easy. If you do plan to back up your data and transfer it to the new drive, that can add a LOT of time onto the process, depending on how much data you need to backup.

I had to backup and restore a full 1TB of data, so I spent about 12 hours getting everything transferred and ready to go. I just left the restore process going while I slept and the PS4 Pro was ready to use when I woke up the next morning.

I hope this helps anyone that was having the same issue. I am also using a wired headset that is connected to my ps4 controller. I am sure there is another way to do this but I didn't feel like buying a wireless headset. I found the answer shortly after posting this. I was just messing around with my microphone settings and it started to work. Now I am able to mute my ps4 party chat and speak to my stream audience without bothering my friends on the chat. Not sure how to post pictures of this but I'll describe it as best as I can. Also I am using Windows 10 so I am not sure if this will work with other OS.
I went to the sound recording settings and made the streaming mic I use the default communication device. While making the headset microphone(ps4) a default device. On the remote play app I have the microphone icon active so when I speak my friends on the ps4 can hear me. I use a dongle that allows me to mute myself on the ps4. It is the AdjustR that can be purchased online. It is sold at Gamestop and Amazon.

If you're looking for slightly more powerful graphics (especially if you have a 4K tv) the Ps4 pro is the way to go. The Ps4 slim model is smaller but in my opinion not worth getting. Of course you have the original ps4 which is definitely a solid choice. On the issue of memory you can easily change out the standard 500 gb storage device on the original ps4 for a 2 tb one all you need is a screwdriver and a usb.

Link to storage device I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRHTTJE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit: I feel that 500 gigabytes will fill quickly and 1 terabyte is a good medium between price and storage space. However, if you buy most of your games digitally I would recommend 1-2 terabytes as all the digital games will start to eat up storage and also bring the hassle of having to reinstall through the Internet rather than on disc.

Okay. The VITA is actually better for Remote Play than the app you run on Mac/PC in terms of connectivity. I've been places where the VITA connects to my PS4 no problem, but the program on my Macbook Pro deems the connection too weak.

The complaint most have about using the VITA for remote play is the controls. For reasons I cannot understand, the joysticks cannot be pushed as R3 and L3, so those buttons end up on the front bottom corners of the touch screen. Meanwhile, R2 and L2 are the touch pad on the bottom, which are very hard to control. So, if you do go this route, you may want to purchase THIS

25 down and 5 up is adequate on the VITA's end most of the time, but you should definitely have the PS4 receiving a better upload speed. I started getting noticeably more stable remote play connections only after upgrading my Comcast to 10mbps upload and hardwiring the console.

When my Macbook does connect to my PS4 Pro, the quality is 1080p, which looks amazing on the 15" screen. If you can get this to work, go with it. The image quality combined with being able to use a DS4...awesome!

I know this is the same answer on every thread but Hyper X Cloud is gonna be the best. Comfort is top notch, only has 3.5mm so it works on pc, ps4, xbox, and mobile.

I got https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-Line/dp/B01MTLMV89/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1485283574&sr=8-8&keywords=hyperx+cloud

Has an inline cable to mute and turn volume up and down.

$50 USD and is also great, just mainly plastic but has volume slider on ear cup.

  1. Should you replace it? That's up to you and how many games you think you'll have. Right now I'm doing fine with the 500 GB, but I don't have a ton of games yet.

  2. Is there an improvement in speed/performance? I believe the PS4 uses an HDD. SSDs are faster than HDDs, although I'm not sure if you'd notice a huge difference in speed.

  3. Is it easy? Yes, it's very easy. If you can use a screw driver and know how to follow easy directions for formatting the drive, it's stupid simple.

If you do plan to upgrade the drive in your PS4, I recommend the Nyko Data Bank as it allows you to use bigger drives than what the PS4 can use (as long as you don't mind your PS4 having a big bulge on one side). There's a ton of information on the subject in the sidebar of this sub, so just go through it and you should find all the information you need.

See alot of people recommending the Sony gold headphones and they're great headphones but the hinges are plastic and tend to break after a couple years of use (mine did a month ago). Now I'm using the hyperx cloud headphones 80 bucks on Amazon and they're awesome the build quality and comfort are much better than the Sony golds . These aren't wireless though.

I have these installed. Love my Ds4 more than any controller since the Wavebird now I have these. I don't even use my other two DS4's, or won't until I get the other sticks shipped & installed! The concave is ideal for folks like me with bigger hands. The cool touch of the aluminum is great for intense gaming sessions.

> Also, how does remote play work exactly? If my PS4 is on and connected to WiFi and I'm away from home, say at a friend's house and connected to their WiFi with my Vita, can I still use remote play? Basically, I want to play Persona while my friends take forever with their turns during our Dungeons and Dragons campaign... ;)

More or less. The internet at your home (where your PS4 is) and where you are at (with your vita) needs to be fast enough.

Since Persona doesn't have much "fast reaction" it's a perfect game for it (I've logged a handful of hours on it from my vita, though usually just from other rooms in my house), as even if there are hiccups they won't result in instant death.

One thing to note is that the vita doesn't have L2, R2, L3, and R3, (which don't matter much for Persona as you don't need fast reaction for those buttons) and instead requires you to tap on the back touch screen to activate these buttons. You can get a plastic case thing which adds these buttons (via levers and such) and also adds some nice contouring for adult sized hands: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ERA94BY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you can find a set of Philips SHP9500 cans and couple them with a V-MODA BoomPro mic, these things are earcandy. They are open-back however, but if you like a fantastic soundstage and sound then these work a treat. They are also extremely comfortable, can game for hours with them and zero issues with discomfort. ~Cheers~

None of which might fit great now that the rubber on your controller is actually falling apart. Might require some hot glue or something else if you want them to stay in place.

A lot of people eventually switch to xbox style sticks, not just because the material doesn't fall apart but because it's actually a much better design. These compared to the DS4 sticks is night and day in terms of control and your thumb not sliding all over the place.

Not that hard to install. Hardest thing about taking the controller apart is getting the shell separated for the first time and the fact that the triggers and springs might fall out, so just work on a clean table where you'll be able to find the little springs. Watch videos on how to take it apart.

Commented on another thread earlier. I've spent few weeks researching and getting help from /r/headset and /r/gaming_headsets. Best option for comfortablity, price and quality is getting a Philips SHP9500, which has a detachable cable on, and plugging in the V-Moda Boom Pro mic. Dude, i'm telling you man, it's sanely awesome.

Yes But some people risk it but to be honest the portable is 80 that's 90 I say it's worth the 10 extra bucks to get the one you showed us and people may tell you but you can use the old case for your ps4 hard drive to make it external that may be true but you can also get that for 12 bucks more as you can see here http://amzn.com/B00OJ3UJ2S

If you want to upgrade the internal drive to a 2TB one you can use this one, it fits in the pro and the original PS4 (not sure about the slim) and you don't need to modify the chassis. You just need to shuck the drive from the enclosure, it's pretty easy and there are videos online you can follow.

Yea makes sense. The other Microphone I was looking at was [this] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2E8S89R4FAKQB&coliid=I1AYAFG2JPEGH3) one. I know it's like 30 bucks but it has amazing reviews and would work really well with just clipping it on my headphones.

u/whoshiighpitch · 1 pointr/PS4

I've been doing research on this lately and came to the conclusion that "gaming" headsets are generally overpriced for the quality. Best bet would be buy some good quality headphones and attach a mic if you want to. The 2 pairs that I am looking at now for under $100:

Philips SHP9500

Sennheiser HD 518

They are both open back so they are not noise canceling, just FYI.

u/Praise_the_Tsun · 2 pointsr/PS4

You linked the Hyperx Cloud IIs, which are just as good as the ones, but the ones are just as good or better according to some, while also being $20 cheaper.

If you want a solid charger, this will do it. It stays on my table and doesn't move. Not to mention when my cousins come over and play with my ps4, it's fine, and they're 3 years old! The charging port on the controller can't really break because there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room and you just plop the controller in to charge, it's great.

u/DoctorWock · 1 pointr/PS4

I have the GTA version of the Pulse Elite, and I've been told how clear I sound by a few people. Great quality headset overall, and the pulse feature is an interesting novelty. Plus, it's wireless.

I went through 3 replacements of my left stick before finally buying [machined aluminum sticks](
http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Thumbsticks-Analogue-Controllers-Playstation-4/dp/B00K23LKK4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422197908&sr=8-1&keywords=ds4+metal).

I love the weighty feel to them and the ridges and I have been using them for months and they feel exactly the same as day one. I would definitely recommend these before trying to put new stock sticks back in.

u/LennytheGoodson · 5 pointsr/PS4

I used the Sony Gold headset for 2 years and it's amazing. I'd recommend just plugging it in to your controller though so you never have to recharge it.

First I bought this: X-Box One thumpsticks for DS4

It was way better than the original sticks. 2 days ago, I replaced them with aluminium ones: Aluminium sticks

It's a bit slippery, hard to grasp. I think I'll put xbone ones back. I've been using those for months and they were great.

u/Deathclaw2277 · 2 pointsr/PS4

They are harder to come by, as I began to notice people asking about them. It seems like many retailers get small quantities unlike the standard PS4.

Amazon PS4s might give you the chance to get one, however, they might be asking for more than a standard retailer. When I bought the first run of the Pro, it didn't seem like they would make less of them. Or maybe they knew in a few years the PlayStation 5 would be announced?

Anyways, good luck. Also, I've noticed the Spider-Man version is still available in some places if you look hard enough. Amazon says it has 7 left in stock.

This is a really nice TV at pretty decent price. I got one for me and two more for family members. It has hdr10 which is a really big plus. The color is on point as well. You won't be disappointed.

u/Infectedbumhole · 1 pointr/PS4

Most likely, however just to note I don't recommend doing it through PSN itself. What I do reccomend however is this:

http://www.amazon.com/50-PlayStation-Store-Gift-Card/dp/B004RMK4P8/ref=lp_1289533011_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1412062564&sr=1-1

On Amazon the purchases actually work, on the US PSN they didn't for me :(. Anyways when you buy this of Amazon they simply 'add' the code to your Amazon library and you can use that to add funds to your PSN wallet. On Amazon when you are purchasing you can see the tax they add buy going through all the buying steps but simply not confirming the purchase look the top right hand side and see the tax charge. You will need a US mailing adress. Just make one up they don't care and they don't check IP's.

Hope that helps.

I'm looking to pick up a headset so I don't have to use the single-ear earbud anymore.

Right now I'm between the HyperX Cloud Stinger and the PlayStation Gold Wireless. Has anyone gotten a chance to use either of these that can speak to the quality? What I'm looking for is mostly going to be comfort for long sessions and audio quality. Mic quality isn't the most important factor for me, but that'd be nice to head about as well.

u/houmi · 2 pointsr/PS4

I have tried Remote play with:

  • Vita + L2/R2/L3/R3 Grip
  • PSTV
  • Xperia Z3 tablet compact + DS4 + Game Mount
  • PC + DS4

In terms of usage, I use the PC the most followed by Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact + DS4. But they all work...

In terms of ease of use / portability, I'd say it's a toss up between Tablet/DS4/Mount & Vita then PC (Laptop) + DS4. Vita isn't bad, but the screen is too small for my taste for remote play, and the grip, even though helps to add extra buttons, isn't as natural as using the DS4.

From the reviews (all good scores, basically troll 1-star ratings) and images, it seems fairly legit. Internal casing looks about right, genuine buttons and sticks.

>What signs can I look for when it arrives to tell if it is real or not?

Compare the buttons to a real DS4, feel the grip of the bottom of the controller and the thumbsticks (again compare). Plug and play, and note the colour that lights up (it should be orange/yellow like a normal controller on charge).

Dualshock Mute Button

I like my Klipsch ear buds enough to just purchase a separate mute button over replacing them. I also have a set of Sennheiser RS170's for when I really want amazing audio quality and am not using a mic.

u/N0N_N0BIS_D0MINE · 5 pointsr/PS4

I have several headsets and the HyperX Stingers are by far the best bang for the buck. They're better than many that are 2-3x the price.

u/MonsieurBlueSky · 1 pointr/PS4

I haven't had any controllers completely break on me (bought two on day 1 release and one additional controller a few months later), but I have had to take them apart several times to clean them. The only adjustment I have done is replace the stock thumb grips with metal thumb grips (link). I usually try to clean the connectors and buttons with alcohol once or twice a year. I would also suggest replacing/upgrading the battery and possibly buying new springs for L2/R2.

u/usrevenge · 2 pointsr/PS4

I believe it was this one

you take the HDD out of the external casing and the actual hard drive is samsung.

back when i did this you almost couldn't find the 2TB drive separate and I still think it's cheaper to get the external and take the drive out of it.

then you can take the old ps4 hard drive and put inside the external enclosure and with a little work and formating it you can turn it into an external drive for your xbox one, wii-u (i think) or for your pc.

looking at my ps4 i actually only have 850gb of space but i just installed overwatch and re-installed TESO which is like 70gb so yea.

2TB should be fine i have about a dozen games installed i have no plan on playing again but i just leave it there because meh (example, borderlands handsome collection and black ops 3 combined taking 90gb)

u/Grayfox215th · 1 pointr/PS4

Should be? I literally just upgraded to a 2TB this past weekend using this one...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010CBASS0/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_D0KQAbVJ7RC9N

And I also snagged this case for the old PS4 HDD to be used as an external for other stuff...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJ3UJ2S/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_Q1KQAbFV2XW1N...

The process was super easy and only took me maybe a half hour total. The only long part is re downloading all your digital games. I opted not to back up the actual games when backing up the system because that would have taken forever.

u/PeachesComeFromACan · 1 pointr/PS4

u/jbigboote · 2 pointsr/PS4

Pulse Elites are pretty distinctive. Maybe he is wearing some other headphones, or maybe he is wearing pulse elites, and I just can't tell. or maybe he is wearing headphones that are not connected to the PS4.

I just installed SetPoint 6.60, and it did not enable scrolling. I even let it install a Firefox extension, no luck. I am happy assuming it's faulty hardware at this point, and getting by as-is.

u/HylianSamurai · 1 pointr/PS4

For anyone wanting a slightly more in-depth description, the PS3 and PS4 both and HDCP encryption on their HDMI Outs. PS4 was delivered a toggle in a patch that will turn off HDCP and turn off the ability to access blu-rays and video streaming apps. PS3 never had this option removed, so to record with a system like an El Gato you would need to reset the PS3 and have it output over D-Terminal (that may be wrong, I just call it my capture wire) into the El Gato, and then into the TV through HDMI. PS3 is very complicated for a first time recorder, so I can understand how you may just jump ship. HDCP can be broken using certain HDMI Splitters though. If you were ever looking for one I've heard good thing about this one. Cheers!

u/Mazhurg · 1 pointr/PS4

I have one of those, with a 4TB drive. Works like a charm.

http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Data-Bank-PlayStation-4/dp/B00UA55ZRI

Note, while it costs $35, and the cheapest 2TB drive is currently about $70 the total is slightly more than gutting the external 2.5in drive from the usual recommendations.

However, if you need more storage, the above will take any size HDD and past 2TB they are a lot cheaper than the 2.5in ones, and you don't have to worry about thickness.

u/tehkeemo · 2 pointsr/PS4

I was in a similar situation and ended up getting one of these audio/mic controls. They plug right into the audio jack of the Dualshock 4 and let you mute the mic or change the volume whenever you want. I personally prefer the mic switch over the one in the vita earbuds (it's faster and easier to use).

Here is an image of how it looks like when attached to the DS4.

Edit: Forgot to mention you can use any earbud/headset with it.

u/elo228 · 1 pointr/PS4

This would probably best your best choice.

It doesn't look nice but if space is what you need, this may be your only option. Or invest in a good external HDD and use it to install games to. External HDDs go all the way to 8TB powered from USB port.

Negligible, I bought a 250GB drive and a USB caddy. The idea is whatever I'm currently playing is installed on the SSD.

The 250GB is enough for a few games or a couple of really big ones. (I had RDR2 on there for a bit which was a big space eater)

Probably about £50. (I'd have to dig through my orders to get the prices)

Larger SSDs I use on my pc and laptop.

You don't have to replace your drive, you can just put the SSD in a caddy if you don't mind permanently using up a USB port. That way you've still got the storage of the original PS4 drive for anything that doesn't need the SSD speed. (indies etc)

EDIT:

For example, usb caddy £7.89.

Samsung 250GB SSD £49.59

43" is as small as you're going to find with 4K and HDR until some computer monitors start supporting HDR.

Get a DS4 chargerI prefer the sony original dual charger and just hook it up when you stop playing. Keeps the place neat.

Get some thumbgrips, I prefer Kontrol Freeks, it really helps, not to play better but for comfort.

Lastly if you are into fighting games, get an arcade stick.

Currently this is one of the most used 2TB drive.
Also, you can get this one and remove the hard from inside. There are many videos on YouTube.

If you're looking to install bigger sizes (4TB+) that has 7200 rpm, get Nyko Data Bank, it allows you to install 3.5 inch hard drives which basically have 7200 rpm.

EDIT: I'm mistaken. There's a 1TB Drive that rotates 7200 and more. Thanks /u/dano8801 and /u/IPurpleIDrank for correcting me :)

I highly recommend this HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset - Black (KHX-H3CL/WR) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJNQG98/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_eogFwbHVPSRAJ

I use this. I don't know if its available somewhere else but others that are similar should work just as well.

Something like this may help you out. I haven't bought it yet so idk if it actually works. I don't see why it wouldn't though.

Depends on how your Sennheisers are connected. If it's just a 3.5mm, then you will need to get an adapter. You can use an adapter like this one.

It's on Amazon I just don't want to drop $60 until my V1 is completely shot.

Elgato wont work by itself you also need an hdmi splitter to remove hdcp. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this one works really well

I'm using the HyperX Cloud Stinger. Very light and comfy, a short wire that plugs into the controller, on headset volume control, and flip up the mic for mute made it perfect for me. Decent price at $50, but I got them on sale during Black Friday for $35.

This is the one you need. It has the Samsung M9T drive in it, which is the officially supported drive.

Metal Thumbsticks. Bro.... just buy these. Dead easy to replace and they're a million times better than the originals. I've replaced the thumbsticks on all 3 of my controllers and it's the best.

My Controllers Sorry for the poor quality photo

I have this for Direct Capture, works fine as it is.

Just have to be aware of whether you want 3D, HDR, 4K, you'll need one that's compatible.

Nope, I mean a PS4 pro
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B01LOP8EZC/ref=mw_dp_olp?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Edit: well last night I saw the pro that low. Someone must have took advantage.
But if you go in a selling app Offer up or LetGo you can find them cheap. I got mine for $300 and sold my OG PS4 $220

I bought this internal ssd along with this enclosure to make it an external drive. Works just as well, but costs a bit less.

u/Pokedude97 · 1 pointr/PS4

Sorry for the late reply but I just preordered it from Amazon (the release date will update soon) and there's a Gamestop Preorder too.

Upgrade the hard drive.

Get a 2.5 inch firecuda, take original hard drive the ps4 comes with and buy an external enclosure.

u/XStreamGamer247 · 2 pointsr/PS4

Not sure, but it's already at $60 (Standard price) on Amazon, or at least it was when I looked on Sunday.
