If you are looking for something comprehensive send her a link to Wookieepedia instead. It's far more complete than any printed encyclopedia, contains both canon and Legends information and it's constantly being updated when new things are released. It's a lore geek's best friend.

As far as the gift goes, you could still get her that Visual Encyclopedia because it's got lots of really nice pictures. Alternatively, Ultimate Star Wars, The Complete Visual Dictionary, The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary, Rogue One Visual Dictionary and the Character Encyclopedia are all good books that have a lot of great info in them. You could also go with the Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, although it's no longer complete and much of the information is no longer canon.

Whatever you pick, make sure it's from the heart and I'm sure she'll like it.

All the comics, but I'm behind. I stopped when I read that they were gonna do TFA backstory. I have an order to pick up tomorrow, and I'm going to get caught up. I really liked the Princess Leia comic series the best so far. http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Princess-Leia-Marvel/dp/0785193170

I watched the first series of Rebels and liked it. There's a Kanan comic that I've only read two issues of but seems pretty good.

Below are my recommendations (in no specific order)

u/astralrayn · 1 pointr/StarWars

I definitely like Kylo more than Rey. I'm super HAPPY with the entire cast including Rey. But my heart has always been with the bad guys. I knew I was going to love Kylo the most the moment I saw him. In fact the moment I saw him I looked at my boyfriend and said "You're costuming that." like he didn't have an option, I'm making him a Kylo and he's going to be mine and that's that!

But I LOVE the point you brought up that this movie really makes you sympathize with the bad guys and I loved that. You feel for Finn who is freaked out by the power and cruelty of the first order and you actually feel for Kylo who is struggling between light and dark. Watching the promos and getting hyped, I never imagined I would feel for Kylo. I assumed I'd sit there and think he was amazing but I didn't think I'd connect with him, it was actually kind of nice! I'm circle jerking, I know, I can't help it.

Here's a list of shit you need to pick up:

The visual dictionary

The Art of Star Wars the Force Awakens

And you mentioned having a book with layouts of the death star and such so you may like Incredible Cross Sections.

And from what EVERYONE I know has been telling me, The Force Awakens novelization is a must read if you want juicy little details that weren't made crystal clear in the movie!

Also, if you are not reading the comics. STOP. RIGHT. NOW. AND. READ. THEM!!

In order of priority:

Darth Vader

Star Wars

Princess Leia

Shattered Empire

And read Kanan if you're a Rebels fan. I HAVE the comic I just haven't read that one yet!

But no seriously that Darth Vader comic. The stuff that happens. UGH. NERDGASM. After reading them and re-watching the movies in preparation for TFA I fell in love with the originals all over again. It was like that fresh awesome new love I had for them the first time! So good!

u/GodotIsWaiting4U · 2 pointsr/StarWars

Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Darth-Maul-Dathomir/dp/1616555513

It's based on The Clone Wars scripts that hadn't yet been made into episodes in time when the show got canceled. It's also the only comic book that's still canon (i.e. still part of the official Star Wars timeline).

Also, good on you for taking the plunge and giving the movies a try. If you're watching for the first time, I personally recommend either release order or story order; Machete Order is designed to promote a very specific attitude, and one that I would like to see less of in the fandom. There is a marked shift in quality between the prequels and the originals, but they're all at least watchably fun.

When/if you finish that, if you have Netflix and want more, watch through The Clone Wars. Start with the movie, then dive into the show. Yes, the first and second season are not in chronological order; you can look up the chronological order if you want, but it's really not a big deal and the show works fine in release order.

Actually I've found a renewed interest in the novels now that I have an e-reader. There are some really great books out there, my favorite probably being Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina.

u/Lucius_Funk · 0 pointsr/StarWars

I picked up the first issue of the DVDs without the theatrical versions, but with the bonus disc with special features. This.

u/Kylon1138 · 1 pointr/StarWars

I recommend getting the prequel trilogy on blu ray - they made some changes I liked (adding CGI Yoda to PT)

As for the OT - I recommend not getting the blu ray, not a fan of the changes they made

[I would get the DVD release of the OT from 2004] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00003CXCT?psc=1)

This started out as a blog series and became a book. It goes into incredible depth on how Star Wars came to be and many of the lesser-known factors that played into its numerous drafts and what it ultimately became.

The original website is gone, but the Internet Archive still has several snapshots of it, including an earlier version of the book from 2008 and this articles page from 2015. (After early 2015, the domain appears to have been taken over by squatters.)

I found it to be a great companion to the authorized Making of Star Wars by Rinzler.

The very TLDR? Marcia Lucas. Award-winning editor and George's wife at the time of A New Hope, who more or less saved the film in the editing process.

You can pretty much sum it up with this line in the Wikipedia article from George about Marcia's role on Jedi:

> When asked of her contributions to the film, George described the scenes in which she helped edit as the emotional "dying and crying" scenes.

u/cuddlesy · 2 pointsr/StarWars

I flipped through that one at a bookstore, actually! I ended up getting its sister book, Star Wars: Visions, which also has some incredible artwork.

The TOR book is pretty cool, yeah. It's pretty heavy on text at some points - I don't mind, personally, but I've read some complaints about that - and a lot of the images have been featured before, be it in promo materials or on BioWare's site. To tell the truth, I don't really care as long as it looks great and satisfies my endless craving for all things Star Wars.

Well it will depend on your definition of 'Affordable'.

Funko Pop's! A good choice for <12$. And there's a wide variety of characters to choose from.

Thrawn is a good re-introduction to one of the most memorable Star Wars villains.

Battlefront II: Inferno Squad serves as a companion piece to the new game coming out next week.

Over 30$

Smuggler's Bounty Box A subscription box by Funko. One Box =25$ 12 month subscription (6 boxes) =150$

I didn't know there was a separate Amazon for the UK. You can't purchase it on Amazon Instant Video? The series isn't out on DVD yet as far as I know, I simply bought it on Amazon and watched it on their site.

Here's the link if it works.

u/Gammaj4 · 1 pointr/StarWars

Well, if you want the blu-rays, Amazon has the first five seasons, and the Lost Missions.

u/ever_more_serious · 5 pointsr/StarWars

UPDATE: An I received it. It completely lives up to my expectations.

The Jedi Path An in-universe textbook for Padawans with a lot of inserted media like the napkin Obi Wan sketches his Saber Design on and notes written in the margins from the book's previous owners starting with Yoda, and passed down from Master to Apprentice until it came to Luke Skywalker

u/ToadGazebo · 5 pointsr/StarWars

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00COYNZJ8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It looks like it just went out of stock. I might have bought one of the last ones. It JUST arrived (like a week ago).

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Rebels-Season-1/dp/B00O3X20TY

This seems to most definitely season 1. It might say 101, but it's the right one, the episodes are individually underneath. It's also on iTunes.

u/beardslol · 12 pointsr/StarWars

Here are the Amazon links to the books Book of Sith, The Jedi Path

u/[deleted] · 4 pointsr/StarWars

Or you can get the Vault Edition from Amazon

u/Azhor · 3 pointsr/StarWars

A reverse image search points to this book which seems to be a "fan art" book, but all the art is done by professionals.

The Essential Reader's Companion (Star Wars) (Star Wars: Essential Guides) https://www.amazon.com/dp/0345511190/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_-GZ.ub0SPYE2R

Great reader companion book to Legends (Expanded Universe).

Check out the Star Wars ABC book

I got it for my daughter and she loves it. She knows almost every character in the book now.

u/THE_Aft_io9_Giz · 1 pointr/StarWars

Star Wars ABC - my 3-1/2 yr old daughter loves this book

u/dangerousdolphin5 · 1 pointr/StarWars

You can watch it here, but you need to sign in with a cable provider after the first few episodes. Otherwise, you can buy the episodes from Amazon!

u/tikiporch · 2 pointsr/StarWars

Is this not it? They also have the Sith edition for $55. If yours is identical, i.e. "Vault Edition", then that should be the Jedi equivalent.

u/DankDespot · 1 pointr/StarWars

They sell these kits in stores (Michaels, Costco, Target, etc.) and Amazon.

u/The-Beer-Baron · 20 pointsr/StarWars

Here you go:

http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Eisley-Cantina-Star-Wars/dp/0553564684

Edit: There's also a Tales of the Bounty Hunters and Tales From Jabba's Palace

u/palabear · 1 pointr/StarWars

I started to read my daughter this book

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-ABC-Scholastic/dp/0545227380

Now she can tell me the name of 23 of the 26 characters. Jedi, IG 88, and Obi Wan trip her up. She is 2.

I bought it right when it came out for $15 or something, but now it looks like it's being sold for $111 on Amazon at the cheapest. Sorry!

Here is the art book from Star Wars Art: Visions project referenced above.
Costs about $30 on Amazon.

u/megatom0 · 1 pointr/StarWars

I highly suggest tracking down The Star Wars comicbook. It is based on Lucas' original version of the script. It has Han Solo as a big Green alien, and a bunch of the names are switched around. But in it stuff like "The Wills" "Padawan" and Sith are used. The Jedi are are called the Jedi-bendu, which is where the name for that character in Rebels comes from. Its pretty interesting to see how much it changed. And indeed prequels-eque political stuff was much more a part of the story. It does have a more Flash Gordon-y kind of vibe to it, but every Star Wars fan should read it IMO. To me it shows how Lucas' ideas became much more honed over various drafts of his script.

I'd also recommend tracking down Leigh Bright's draft of Star Wars 2 to see how much stuff changed there. In that version of the script Vader was not Luke's father. That will also show you how much Kasdan brought to that script.

u/Dannik_Jerriko · 2 pointsr/StarWars

It wasn't the director's cut of the movie. It was the Star Wars Radio Drama.

It was produced on NPR shortly after the film was released. It features Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels, but every other role has been recast. Fortunately Brock Peters totally brings it as Darth Vader.

Some pretty cool additional scenes include:

• The days Luke spends on Tattooine before he meets the droids, including a final farewell to Biggs.

• How Leia helps intercept the Death Star plans.

• Vader's interrogation of Leia.

• Additional plotting by Tarkin, including him considering using the Death Star to usurp the Emperor.

• Luke briefly training upon his arrival at Yavin IV.

And, look here. Here it is on Amazon.

I got the new lego Falcon, the topps trading card SW book, a long sleeve raglan tee with the first order trooper helmet on it (can't find a link, they have it at Target), and the making of Star Wars coffee table book.

u/Kampy5567 · 2 pointsr/StarWars

Man, he really reminds me of Luke Skywalker from "The Star Wars" comics book. He just needs the weird head thing.

u/dangzal · 3 pointsr/StarWars

I don't know if these are the official dates, but the first TPB's for all current Star Wars comics are already available for preorder on Amazon.

The limited Princess Leia series (5 issues, I think) seems to be available September 15 as a TPB.

Star Wars Volume 1 also has September 15 as a release date for the TPB.

Darth Vader's first TPB looks to be available October 20.

The upcoming Kanan: The Last Padawan series seems to be available November 3 as a TPB.

Also, I've just noticed that if you click on one of these comics, under "customers who bought this item also bought" there are a bunch of Journey to The Force Awakens books available for preorder, I thought "Aftermath" was the only one.

u/TraumaSwing · 3 pointsr/StarWars

All of these comics exist in the new Disney canon

Star Wars (Takes place between episodes 4 and 5)

Darth Vader (Takes place alongside the Star Wars comic)

Star Wars: Shattered Empire (Shows a glimpse of the post-episode 6 world)

Star Wars: Kanan (Between episodes 3 and 4)

Star Wars: Princess Leia (Immediately after episode 4)

Star Wars: Lando (Sometime pre-episode 5)
