The realistic, "not doing moab every day" answer is a set of the next step up in the Bilstein lineup (5100 series), something that's an improvement but not full on "I can feel the size of the gravel in the pavement" level of suspension diva...

Conveniently, Amazon sells/stocks them... Links:

you'll need two of the Fronts and two of the Rears. apologies, rear of xTerra is THIS model.

Background: Owner of an 09 xTerra S 4x4 (2010-2014 and 100k+ miles) and current owner of a 12 Pro-4X Frontier (2017 - now, "travel/trip" vehicle, 10k miles?).

This was my first "upgrade" on the frontier. $340ish plus tax?

Worth it, and wish i'd done them on the xTerra, it's a better handling platform imho...

I don't use a folding J-style rack but I do use J-style racks for my kayaks (2 of them) and they barely fit on the X cross bars. They attach nice and snug.

As for securing the kayaks down, I use the quick straps that came with my racks and make sure to tie them off to prevent slippage.

The farthest I've traveled with this setup is about an hour of highway driving (75 mph).

Edit: The racks I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003V57NUQ/ref=sxl1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467757196&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65

Haven't done the job myself, but the guys at thenewx.org tend to recommend this cat, made by Eastern Industries, which costs $192.

If your headlights were as bad as mine, I can completely recommend the 3M headlight restoration kit.

It worked insanely good and made the process easy, plus it was only $11. Just follow the instructions and it'll go well, plus a lot of people recommend clear-coating. I can't really do that because the humidity pretty much stays above 80% down here, but the kit has enough material and polish that it could be used a couple more times to do maintenance.

This video is also super useful if you have a ton of air in the system. For example, after a radiator or hose replacement. I use a spill-free funnel when using this method to avoid the mess that comes from pulling the funnel off the radiator when finished. https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-24610-Spill-Free-Funnel/dp/B001A4EAV0

I bought the above. It's cheap, it was easy to install, sound quality is decent.

Ubolts are plain steel 2.25" (I think) exhaust ubolts. A little grinding was needed on one of the ubolt plates. Def will rust. I am looking for a slightly better solution to replace the clamps. Could have probably painted but I didn't want to at the time. Once I come up with something different I'll swap out the clamps.

OP, I found the factory suction mounts are made of fail and suck. I have a similar detector, but invested in a high quality mirror mount. Now it doesn't rattle on the glass, doesn't get in the way of a sun shade, is less visible, and it isn't cooking in the sun. Plus, when those suction cups get baked by UV, the detector doesn't fall on your dash while driving. I tried a bunch of different styles of mount, this is the only one that has never given me problems in the 10+ years of running radar detectors.

I also hid the wire in the headliner and a-pillar trim for a very clean installation.

Lordy, you can run a sawzall off your inverter?

I just got one of these, one of these and a cheap true temper axe and have been served well so far.

It's an industrial plastic pallet that I'm experimenting with. It fits right between the rails and sits on the cross bars, and I clamped it down with some u-bolts. It's sturdy as hell with tons of tie-down points, so far so good. Here's a link.

Edit: Here's a photo of it sitting on the rack.
