Not OP but I can help you out here. Let's break this down by component:

  1. Speakers - There are two types: active and passive. Active = amplifier built into each speaker (i.e. most dedicated "computer" speakers from the likes of Logitech, Creative, etc.). Passive = 90% of speakers out there, must be connected to an amplifier to work. Typically passive speakers will get you a better speaker for a given price for an active but you have to figure in the cost of an amplifier. For a passive speaker set up, the cheapest system recommended over at /r/audiophile is a SMSL SA-60 amp and Micca MB42X Bookshelf Speakers. If your budget is higher, ask in the daily purchase advice sticky there (read the rules/suggestions thoroughly). I don't mess around with active speakers so I can't recommend any.

  2. Microphone - For simplicity's sake, I will recommend you look into USB connecting condenser microphones as they are affordable and have good sensitivity. Something like the Audio-Technica AT-2020 or Blue Yeti are popular mics for under $100. I have the Yeti and can attest that it is a very good and sensitive multi pattern mic. They can be hooked directly up to your PC or if you want to get really fancy, check out an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett Solo or Scarlett 2i2. The nice thing about an interface is it allows you get a nice mic with an XLR connector (generally better than a USB connection) and it will work with your PC.

  3. Headphones - Don't waste your money on "gaming" headphones. A nice 2 channel pair of cans with a standalone mic like I listed above will hands down outperform the likes of Turtle Beach and Razr headsets. /r/headphones has a really good wiki with more info than I can provide here and headphones broken down by price range and characteristics. Plus, then you can use them both for gaming and general music listening and have a good experience, something you don't get with dedicated "gaming" headsets. The amp I listed in the speakers section is fine for headphones but Schiit makes absolutely fantastic headphone amps and DAC (digital to analog converters, check out both /r/audiophile and /r/headphones for more info on them and why they are good for your set up) with very respectable price tags.

Hope this helps. Higher quality audio equipment can be confusing and daunting, what with all the technical details, wide price ranges, parsing through all the marketing bullshit and the sometimes snobby attitudes of some "audiophiles". I wish you luck and feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

Ah okay. Well I'll give you a few more then.

Edifier P12. Just a review that I did of those. Pretty much, they're a fun speaker and you probably won't need a sub, but they don't really have that top end sparkle that some people look for.

Micca has been the 'go-to' for budget speakers for a while. This is the MB42X that have been popular for years, and they're many people's first pair of speakers. They're extremely well built and they sound fantastic. Just recently, they came out with the RB42. Those are $130 instead of $80. Here is a comparison between the two that I made. Basically a "what do you get for the extra money" kinda thing. The jist is more bass response and stronger bass. It makes male vocals sound much richer and fuller, and they can reach down lower to get some more low notes.

Let me know if you need anything else.

u/Jespy · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I got THIS I saw the $87 tag on it and thought it was too good to be true. If it's holding three $200+monitors I want something sturdy and reliable. How do you like the stand you got? :) Just curious. I might recommend the one you got to save my friends some money.

u/zeroskillz · 4 pointsr/battlestations

You're going to call me dumb when I tell you this but, I don't run in surround. I think the idea is cool, but the interface is shotty at best. I'll explain. So normally I game on the middle monitor with a stream up on my right monitor and something to read on the left. The surround doesn't have "true" maximize so the windows are basically maximized but still show the border, that annoys me.

As far as the monitors, I love them, albeit I'd like to replace them for the BenQ 24" 120hz.

For me, the case is a sign of power. When I was much younger, my first job was at a computer shop and one of the guys there had a really big case with all kinds of badassery inside and ever since I started making money and building awesome gaming rigs, I've always got a big case.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NPEC5A/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is my monitor stand.

I spy a republican gunship hiding. love love love. haha

On a more serious note, frames for your posters would be an easy and cheap way to clean things up a bit. Also, rbg lighting can be as simple and cheap as this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BP4DUMU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2Y1AKJUEGPG2U&coliid=I9D60H4E01TR6

u/Razzion · 2 pointsr/battlestations

trust me, i spent months researching good mics, as a person who gets about 20 dollars a month on average, it was worth saving for the blue yeti, Heres a link to the Yeti i bought it was about 130$ wen i got it but its about 90 now, which is amazing! hope it works out! :)

u/jackdriper · 2 pointsr/battlestations

OP said he spent $4000-5000 on everything while he has $99 computer speakers. There are some really solid pairs of speakers that I don't think would have been out of the budget.

I get that people have different priorities, but I feel like we (subscribers to places like /r/basttlestations) prioritize researching the best value for our money at any price range. I'm surprised to often see plastic computer speakers and gaming headsets next to $700 ultrawide monitors so often.

u/muffinsticks · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Can't speak for OP but I have a lot of experience with LEDs.

There are two parts to an LED setup.

  1. Type of LEDs

  2. Controller to set the LED colors / animations

What are you looking to do? Animations along an LED strip or single color lighting like this (all LEDs in the strip independently colorable or the whole strand all being same color at a time)? This will determine what type of strip to use.

How would you want to control them? Via your mortherboard (if it has the option), an IR remote (like TV) or a phone?

If your looking for something super simple and easy then something like this would be the way to go:

Nice setup man!

If you're trying to get better performance out of your loudspeakers, I highly recommend getting them on some stands. You want your tweeters to be at ear-level or close enough that you can tilt the speakers a bit to make a difference. This is because treble is very directional. The other reason that stands make a big difference is mechanical isolation. When your speaker cabinets make direct contact with your desk, their vibrations transfer out of the cabinets and into your furniture, which muddies up the sound.

If you want something cheap, AudioEngine DS2's would probably do the job. If you want something a bit better where you can tweak it a bit more to your liking, I highly recommend getting a pair of IsoAcoustics stands. I was able to A-B several loudspeakers on and off of the stands before I bought them, and they make a very noticeable difference. They come with 2 different heights of poles as well as two different size spacers for fine tuning or tilting. The correct size for your monitors according to the IsoAcoustics site would be a pair of ISO-L8R155's.

Both the 2012 Minis and the 2010 Mini are completely headless. Unfortunately, this means that accessing them via remote desktop gives you a measly 800x600 resolution. I use this handy little gadget on both of them to replicate a 1920x1080 display being connected. So, when I connect via Screen Sharing I get a nice big display.

My desk is an IKEA linnmon but I bought 2 extra table legs and used the drawer to put my pc on as seen in the picture

Mouse pad is so worth the money and its a mouse pad alot of pros use, Its so smooth and just perfect you can wash it easily just by putting it in the washing machine on cold setting and air drying it out (just lay it on the back of a chair or something) I would highly recommend it and its a HUGE mouse pad too.

Awesome setup but it's begging for some studio monitors. I recommend the Vanatoo T1 if you're a big spender, or a pair of Micas with a $100 amp. I have both and they're awesome. Audio Engine is somewhere in the middle and they're good too.

[Vanatoo T1] (https://www.amazon.com/Vanatoo-Transparent-One-Powered-Speakers/dp/B0080K2KUK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501298805&sr=8-1&keywords=vanatoo+t1)

u/Chispy · 4 pointsr/battlestations

Get yourself one of these

I have it with my Audioengine A5+, and have em placed sideways. Right now I have them behind my monitors, as I'm testing how it sounds from there. Here's a picture of my desk I just took They sound great. I usually have them in front of the monitors but I like leaning back so the sound isn't always the best since I'll be leaning too close to one speaker. But now that the speakers are placed behind the monitors, they sound pretty good. The top of the speakers are a bit blocked, but that doesn't harm the audio quality at all (at least nothing noticeable.) So I think I'm going to keep them like this.

u/-lemonlyman- · 5 pointsr/battlestations

Yes, it is definitely worth it - I have had the same M-Audios you have and now have the M-Audio BX5's - getting foam wedges like these for desktop speakers will not only angle up the tweeters to your ear which will make them sound a lot better, but also separate the speaker from the hard surface of your desk. This will reduce vibrations against the desk during playback. Another easy suggestion I would make is angling your speakers like in [this diagram] (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/triangle_mar2007.gif) for better stereo imaging

u/Callamanda · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Looking good, but I have two inexpensive suggestions: get this for a PC stand and get this for your headphones

I just received the glass stand and I like it a lot, used it to raise up my monitor and free up space for my keyboard and my backup HDD. It'd fit/look a whole lot better than that silly AC retail box ;)

u/awesomesauce1414 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Well there's a few options for you here. There's these, which I have a highly recommend. Fluance SX6. Or a cheaper yet still apparently great set of Micca speakers that are quite a bit smaller. These both require something like this to power it, along with some speaker wire and maybe banana plugs. You could also get some powered Audioengine A2
's
. Those shouldn't require an amp. Overall I would highly recommend taking the plunge into quality sound equipment. I myself would buy the fluance one's again but it's up to you. The cost is most definitely worth it when it comes to these speakers.

u/HowManyCaptains · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Thanks! I spend most days here, so I strive to make it a place I enjoy.

Desk is from World Market. It looks like they have a 40% off deal going on right now!

Ultrawide is the Dell Alienware AW3418DW.

Top monitor is a dell 4k 27" I bought a few years ago. Great color reproduction.

Thank you!

The Mousepad is the XXL Ripper LINK

I love it so much I travel with one everywhere. Great way to deploy a mobile battlestation.

My favorite feature is the mouse and keyboard are on the same surface so the keyboard doesn't keep hitting the edge of the mouse pad when I game.

u/kamintar · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Not OP, but looks like the one I bought last year. It's kind of always been "on sale" but it's a cheaper alternative to the Ergotech or Amazon Basics arms. The other benefit of this is the ability to stack the monitors vertically or horizontally depending on your preference. It's fairly modular; you can put the arms on the pole at different heights to stack them, or you can use the splitter as seen in the OP. Both arms also have 2 parts, so you can extend the monitors fairly decently in almost any direction. Some parts might seem a little cheap compared to the other high end mounts but for the price I can't complain. One of the arms split a little bit on the plastic exterior because I tightened the lock screw too much and tried to move it, mostly a cosmetic issue as far as I can tell.

I use this SteelSeries Mousepad, and I absolutely love it 100%. It's high quality, has a great feel, and is the perfect thickness for me. For your setup, I'm actually thinking you could rock an XL pad that goes under both your mouse and keyboard. While SteelSeries does have a couple basic XL and XXL mousepads, you could always get a Corsair pad, or go and get yourself something RGB. Totally see where you're coming from in terms of not finding any that you like. I know that you can probably get one custom made, or something with a design that complements your case/controller color schemes. Just a couple ideas to get you started, but I feel like it will end up being a simple, yet highly impactful, addition to your setup.

u/ElitistMango67 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

You all are correct, I went to ikea store and got the countertop karlby wood. Very durable and meant for rough encounters. Mixed with Grey or black Alex drawers and I love it. Very popular on reddit, I don't bolt them down but you can with these if you want. Also upgraded from a glass desk and I love this setup!

Guessing, but looks like the VIVO Dual Freestanding Monitor Arm. I've used something similar at my previous job and have another one with a different base at home. Easily supports 22-23" monitors, but I haven't tried mounting 27" that the vendor claims it can handle.

u/billputer · 3 pointsr/battlestations

I love those speakers. I'd recommend getting some stands like these, you'll def notice the improvement in sound when they're angled correctly.

u/Sionnix · 3 pointsr/battlestations

I tried having the bookshelf speaker behind the monitors but the acoustics were terrible. So I used these stands to elevate them (not ideal but it is what I had) and these isolators used backwards from the intended orientation to angle them down towards the operator. The rubber isolation wedges are intended for smaller desktop speaker but they inspire enough confidence that I don't think they will topple my Swans :)

u/bloke226 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

I'd recommend elevating them to make sure you get the right experience. I bought their recommended stands and its more direct and enjoyable.

EDIT: Link to the stands I own. They seem to reduce the rumble and they look better than if I made anything myself.

u/KR0SSED0UT · 2 pointsr/battlestations

This is the keyboard mat, this is the case.

I wouldn't reccomend the 400C in any variant, and the 460x/570x don't have a great internal design either. They're not really very easy to cable manage in, the radiator support is extremely limited (you can realistically can't fit a 360mm in without removing the mechanical drive bay entirely. S340 Elite wasn't much better, no top radiator support is far from ideal.

I'd take a look at something like the Define R6 in white. Doesn't have the front glass but has much better cable routing and options for HDDs to be installed. All white version won't be out until 3/7/18 but it might be worth it from what I've seen.

I just commented on someone else's post about this as well, but if you want a little stand that will allow you to move your desktop to the floor, allowing for more desk space, here is what i use. It's meant for monitors but works perfectly for a tower.

u/thirtynation · 2 pointsr/battlestations

We are loft brethren. Something something master race something.

One suggestion, get some speaker wedges for your desk to angle them at you. It will greatly improve your sound quality for minimal cost.

Or better yet, if you're even one tenth crafty, make some clamp stands! They are very easy to make.

Thanks and sorry for the late reply. The wallpaper is from Ori and the Will of the Wisps, an upcoming game (first game called Ori and the blind forest is also worth looking at, has some great visuals too). The two stands at the side are custom made simply by using some small furniture legs similar to these which made it easy to adjust the height of the monitors.

I’ve seen a lot of good responses to your question, but i was wondering the same thing, even after reading a lot of these response. Then I went to the Amazon listing and I watched the demo video they have (it’s the last ‘image’).

I had no idea games allow a wider perspective if you have a screen like this. Far different (better) than the monitor I use. I’m genuinely interested in buying one now.

u/Rancorip · 1 pointr/battlestations

So this thing is pretty freaking good. It does have important drawbacks tho. 1) it is VERY stable (they offer it for a 24in monitor and 27 in monitor version) 2) THe base is quite large, so if you dont have the desk realestate, consider other options. 3) I have 3 24in monitors that hang off to the very edge so one way or another, I reccomend getting the 27 in version (if you have the space). I’m also 5’10” and I fit in just fine. I went from having the IKEA Linmon desk and it was almost the exact height as this one so I’m already used to it. If height is a problem for you I would recommend ordering some adjustable metal legs like for furniture. A lot of people are using these to put between the desk and cabinets to raise it up a little bit, and plus they make it look a bit nice imo. Something along the same lines would be the Micca Covo-S, but you need an amp for them (looks like the soundphonics have a built in amp in the larger speaker?). Amps can be had for cheap, but many cheap Chinese amps have a slight buzz in them whenever they're on. I don't spend any real time with super cheap speakers, so sadly I can't give any cheap amp recommendations. I had a Dayton DTA-1 on my Micca MB42X (bigger cousin to the Covo-S) and it was a weak amp, but loud enough, and no buzz. Lepai amps seem to be very hit or miss with their quality.

If you want something nicer, but a bit over $70, there's the Micca PB42X. I mentioned the MB42X, but those need an amp, whereas the PB42X has one built in. It's not a good or powerful amp, but being built in is handy if you don't plan on going for crazy quality. They aren't huge speakers -- about nine inches tall, or six inches if you lay them on their sides. IMO the best sound you can get for this price without scouting for crazy deals on hi-fi equipment.

But of course... if you happen to be outside of the US then I think that availability is pretty poor.

u/DrVixen · 1 pointr/battlestations

Instead of white key caps I recommend something like these : https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Double-Shot-PBT-Keycaps/dp/B07JDVG4RQ

u/Folthanos · 1 pointr/battlestations

Looking good! Does this vertical monitor setup work well for you? I've been considering to set my monitors up like you did (they're currently side by side) and am concerned about getting neck aches from constantly looking up.

Regarding speaker recommendations, these two are great for desktop setups (taken from /r/audiophile's Purchase Help Thread):

  • $120: Micca PB42X or Micca MB42X + SMSL SA-60 if you prefer separate components.
  • $280: JBL LSR305

(The JBLs might be a little too big on your desk, but perhaps you would also be willing to upgrade to a bigger desk for these :P)

u/fuzzy_logikk · 1 pointr/battlestations

figures, I got more help here than in the /r/audiophiles help thread.

I asked specifically if the lepai could drive them ><

so I need a better amp if I want to get those speakers? I'd definitely position your speakers so they aren't angled inward so severely. You want the point where they "meet" to be just behind your head, and as-is they're meeting like at the base of your keyboard. I'd also pick up some wedges, like this, so they're actually directed at your ears rather than your chest.

About $1,000 on Amazon. That’s not terribly bad. Samsung Electronics LC49HG90DMNXZA CHG90 Series Curved 49-Inch Gaming Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C7TNC5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rOqUCbADE21EM

Thanks! I'm planning on getting some sleeved cables soon. The stand is the Rain Design mStand.

HyperX Double Shot PBT Key Caps

Be careful with Corsair keyboards though, the bottom row doesn’t fit unless you do a little DIY and file down the edges of the keys

While I appreciate your background choice, I felt like there was something missing, some - thing... then it hit me, your mousepad is the equivalent of “missing leg day”...

I'm planning on getting these ones.

OP's are 5050 which are great, but they can only display one color at a time. The 3528 can have multiple colors. I've been doing research on this, because I want to make this

Thanks. It's called Halter Dual LCD Monitor Stand. I got it from Amazon.com.
Here is the link.

This will work better than a box: Monoprice Multimedia Desktop Stand 22" x 9.5" - Monitor Riser, Laptop Stand, Desktop TV Stand, PC Riser w/ Height Adjustable Legs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AJHCQD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_hpECCbK2Y0KJ0

I have this dual arm and it works great. I have dual 27” monitors, one being curved and works with no issue. Look at my posts for pics

Do you have these keycaps? How do like them if so?

u/James_Blonde007 · 1 pointr/battlestations

It came with the desk in the first photos actually. I'm not sure if you can buy them on there own. But honestly it wouldn't be too hard to make one. Or, depending on how big your case is, a monitor stand like his one could work.

Just get these and turn the speakers a little so they are pointed at your ears instead of straight ahead. You will notice a significant difference. Hi from Columbia City btw

AX Accessories AX2200. Looks a lot like this mount from Halter(Amazon).

NZXT 820 Gunmetal Crow and some LED strip like that

You should order double faced tape extra tho, since this doesn't include any option to tape it to the back of your table.

They're these, which I've seen be popular on here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCKZRTL

But I didn't like the metal look so I wrapped the metal parts in this to match the drawers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W57WGY

It's made by Ergotech

Amazon

Not sure if Amazon has the best price or not, but that is the stand.

Thanks for comment!

I am using an el cheapo Mount It single arm. Its barely holding it, but it gets the job done.
