No sound cards are not a great investment.

A good pair of headphones is the main source of good quality audio.
Headphones and headsets are 2 different things.

  • Headphones = no microphone.
  • Headset = with microphone.

Adding a microphone to a headphone makes it a headset, it generally increases the price but also often equals in worse audio quality.
Also most "gaming headsets" are terrible. Razer, SteelSeries, Corsair, Logitech, etc..
So most people that know anything about good quality audio, always recommend a headphone with a separate microphone.
There are a few exceptions for decent / good quality headsets. I will list them down below

    ---

Your motherboard actually got good on-board sound. So you won't see a big improvement when you get a sound card.
this long video talks about sound card myths. No need to listen to everything, but I would say the first 8 minutes are fairly okay and good to know. This should make you turn away from sound cards.

Good sound absolutely starts with a good pair of headphones (or headset).
If you buy a $500 sound card or $2000 DAC/AMP and use a $15 amazon basics headphone, it will not sound amazing at all. Sure it will probably sound a bit better, but I hope that you'll get my point.

"budget" quality headphones generally start around the $100 mark. With the slightly better ones hovering around the $120-200 mark and above this you can find some awesome stuff, but also some pretty.. not amazing stuff.

Audio is also very different for every person.
First off all; what music, games, movies do you listen to / watch?
A hardcore, drum&bass music style, action game/movie type of person will prefer a much different pair of headphones compared to..
A classical, rock, metal music style, MMO/adventure games/movie type of person.

Some people prefer bass, while others rather prefer clear mids (vocals) and highs.
So I can't pick out a headphone/headset for you until I know what you prefer.

    ---

A couple of solid gaming headsets:

    Model|Review|Price
    :----|:----|:----

  1. Kingston HyperX Cloud | Review | $76/78
  2. Sennheiser PC G4me One | Review | $150 (Price went down a lot!)
  3. Logitech G633 | Review| $120

    ---

    A couple of amazing headphones:

    Model|Review|Price
    :----|:----|:----
    Sennheiser HD518 | Review A bit more bass. | $69 This is a steal..
    Sennheiser HD558 | Review More balanced | $94 Also a steal..
    AKG K240 semi-open | Review | $69
    AKG K240 MK II open | Review | $109
    Audio Technica AD700x | Review | $100

These are all amazing headphones as well as headsets.

    Headsets:
I listed them in order, this would be my picking order if I was forced to decide between a headset.
Note that the Kingston Cloud got different color options. The Cloud Pro is the exact same headset but black and red.
The Cloud II got somewhat the same color options. Black & red, Black & grey, White & pink.
The difference between the Cloud I & II is 7.1 virtual audio. This is a feature I personally never really recommend. You have 2 ears, when you place a headphone on your head you'll have 2 positions where sound comes from. Your brain actually is very cool and complex.
If you've got some earbuds or a 2.0 headset/headphone.. Listen to this virtual barber shop & close your eyes! This sound clip is amazing and also a bit educational.

    Headphones:
I personally am a fan of Sennheiser, because the music that I listen too works very well with these headphones. I've got the HD598s.
But Audio-Technica, Beyerdynamic, AKG & a few other brands are also capable of making very high quality headphones.
Honestly, I can talk a lot about headphones here, but I will spare you this.

Here is a great source list with awesome headphones. The # numbers behind the short explanation gives you a review.

    ---

    Sound cards / DAC&AMPs:

As the video explained in the above video. Sound cards is something you want to avoid.
When you want to increase the audio quality. We have to start spending a bit of money.

  • Sound cards, DAC & AMPs explained

A external DAC/AMP (Digital to Analog Convertor / Amplifier) is the next step into great quality sound!

My currently favorite company for DACs & AMPs is Schiit. Yes that really is their name. Their Schiit is bananas!
They are absolutely not the only good audio guys in the industry. But I just love them. They're a small start-up company that started over on head-fi. The website I used a lot for reviews.

Their entry level DAC/AMP combo will cost you about $240. The Schiit Stack. They've upgraded and revised this stack a couple of times already since the review. They're now selling the Uber 2 versions, which costs $150 each. I hope to be able to actually obtain this stack this year.. I hoped to get it in 2015, but well.. I don't schiit money sadly xD.
But yes, I know that this is expensive. Luckily this company created a less expensive DAC/AMP combined unit.
The Schiit ..Fulla. Yes their naming is hilarious, please reverse the brand + model name when you refer to this product!
It's an impressive device and will destroy ALL sound cards that you can pretty much get. Here is a detailed review.

Gosh, sorry for the bomb of information again!
    Hopefully this answered your questions.

CPU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07STGGQ18/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The Ryzen 5 3600 is all you really need. I doesn't require any overclocking to be a powerful and capable CPU. The stock cooler will work fine with this processor. It'll handle moderate workstation and 1080p-2160p gaming just fine.

GPU: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-xt-challenger-d-8g-oc/p/N82E16814930020?Description=5700&cm_re=5700-_-14-930-020-_-Product

Damn, the RX 5700 from Pulse was in stock yesterday and it's now already out of stock. The ASRock Challenger D model is the best I could think of now, as the Mech OC is the basically the same as the Ventus OC, which also runs pretty hot. If you want to wait for a better model, you can, but no guarantees that it'll be in stock soon. If you want slightly better thermals over better performance, this 2060 Super can also be considered: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-RTX-2060-Super/dp/B07V1Q4L2Z/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=2060+super&qid=1568248713&sr=8-11.

RAM: https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331285?Item=N82E16820331285

The T-Force Delta is actually one of the better under $80 16GB kits out there. It features good RGB as well as a decent build quality. It's definitely worth a try as many people seem to like it.

SSD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LGF54XR/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A29Y8OP2GPR7PE&psc=1

The Sabrent Rocket seems to be one of the SSD market leaders in price to performance. This is probably the best performing SSDs you'll find that is under the $120 price tag. I think 1TB is enough for games and a good number of files, but you can always add a Seagate 2TB Hard Drive for more storage.

MOBO: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144262?Item=N82E16813144262

This is a very decent X570 motherboard at an awesome price. It has many 5 star reviews on many different retailer websites. This motherboard also supports OC, PCIe 4.0, and Mystic Light RGB Sync. Overall, just another great motherboard from MSI. Works with the 3600 out of the box.

PSU: https://www.newegg.com/evga-600-bq-110-bq-0600-k1-600w/p/N82E16817438100?Item=N82E16817438100

This power supply should be enough, as the power draw of the GPU+CPU are around 300 watts combined. This leaves a comfortable 300W for other components and possible overclocking. This is also semi-modular and 80+ bronze rated, which will have decent cable management and power efficiency. There is also a $15 rebate on this product, as well as a 3 year warranty.

CASE: https://www.newegg.com/black-phanteks-eclipse-p300-atx-mid-tower/p/N82E16811854068?Item=N82E16811854068

The Phanteks P300 is probably one of the best $60 PC case out there, tied with the View 31, in my opinion. It has a lot of room to build in (supports some E-ATX boards) as well as above-average airflow. Overall, it is one of my top picks in lower-mid-range cases.

FANS: https://www.newegg.com/corsair-co-9050082-ww-case-fan/p/N82E16835181157?Item=N82E16835181157

The Phanteks P300 doesn't include a lot of fans, and you'll need some fans to improve the airflow due to possibly having a warm GPU. The AF120s should get the job done at a good price.

Monitor Recommendation: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GD7H18F/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Take a look at this monitor. It features FreeSync, a Curved Display, and a 144Hz Refresh Rate. This monitor will be able to take advantage of your PC's power (not like one of my friend, who has a 60hz monitor paired with an RTX 2070), while not using a lot of your budget. The C24G1 is built with a VA panel, which allows it to have better color contrast than TN panels, while not sacrificing response times. As a bonus, AOC also has a 3-Year "No Dead Pixels" warranty in case of a defect.

Everything should total up to around $1275 before all taxes and promotions. This build includes a mixture of components from Amazon and Newegg's website. If you already have a G-Sync monitor, then spend $90 extra and get a RTX 2070 Super from Amazon to take full advantage of that.

Hello!

So I did some checking around for retailers in Brazil. PCPartPicker doesn't have store prices built into it currently, and the retailers that I could find had higher prices than purchasing from Newegg Global. I'm not certain how/if you will be able to purchase through Newegg Global or Amazon, but the parts and prices are from those retailers. Maybe you can save on combined shipping.

The pc built here is budget in parts, but not in performance. This pc will play almost all current games at Ultra settings in 1080p. It has an NVIDIA turing gpu that can also be used for streaming. The gpu also has cuda cores for using blender. The cpu is both a gaming and workstation powerhouse. Note this benchmark is the 3600x not the 3600 (extremely similar performance).

cpu: ryzen 5 3600, one of the best value cpus on the market. Here is the passmark.

cpu cooler: stock cooler is fine

thermal paste: I suggest this for all ryzen 3000 builds even though the included air cooler has a stock paste applied. (requires removing the stock paste with alcohol) This ensures the best thermal conductivity. This is very important because of how the new chips are designed.

memory: a budget option of ddr4 3000mhz 16Gb of ram, for another $20 can upgrade to ddr4 3600mhz 16 latency memory (ryzen 3000 series processors benefit from faster memory, and will gain about a 3% performance boost in both gaming and other workloads, this was the only performance downgrade in the build)

storage: 500Gb m.2 ssd, middle of the pack speed, goes on sale often, 5-year warranty, a budget downgrade from 1Tb of storage for another $40

motherboard: a very budget motherboard, but should be fine for completing the build. It's a MAX version meaning it's ryzen 3000 compatible out of the box.

videocard: as explained above, the 1660 ti. here are the benchmarks compared with some other videocards when using the ryzen 5 3600. this is the average framerate across 40 games. If you needed to save some money, maybe could shop for a used 1660 ti or go with a 1660. The 1660 doesn't have NEW NVENC for streaming games, and it's also slightly worse gaming performance (still very good for the cost).

case: a budget mid-tower case, it's totally fine, it's larger than it looks, it has 3 pre-installed fans, doesn't look half bad

power supply: a budget power supply, still great value for money, 500 watts is totally fine for this build as both the 1660 ti and the ryzen 5 3600 are extremely power efficient

Monitor: I custom added this part, it wasn't on PCPartPicker. It's a 24inch, IPS (great color depth), Flat panel (I don't like curved at this screen size), 144hz, 1ms response time panel. At $180 it is more expensive than the $140 curved VA panel from AOC.

That's about it! I didn't want to go with a ryzen 5 2600 because it would downgrade both the gaming performance and the multi-threaded performance. The ryzen 7 2700 is also a significant gaming downgrade, but is fine for multi-threaded (still too expensive currently). Let me know if you have any questions!

I just spent a full hour writing about this but it got deleted by my mistake :-:
I recommend these parts

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Power-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU

The CPU is good enough for the game you will be playing, the motherboard is good enough and more expensive ones sell you feature you don't need. The RAM will do you fine and is enough for any game you want and the GPU will be perfect for 1080p with 3GB of VRAM. For storage, go with a cheap 500GB HDD but I would certainly recommend an SSD for the future. The power supply will do you fine no matter what anyone else says, trust me (powers my R9 280X which is a LOT more power hungry).
I would recommend looking round Ebay, Facebook selling sites etc etc for any used components or 'starting points' with Ebay being the best bet in my opinion due to the massive amounts of sellers. If you see a 6600 or a 6600k for the same or less than on Amazon, snag it up and make sure to have a CPU cooler with it (stock will do you again, I have experience with 6600/6500 running on stock coolers and it's perfectly fine)

Sorry if the response looks rushed, I had a better one but I clicked something and it deleted :'(
Would love to hear about how the build goes, may your frames be high and temperatures at a low enough level!

EDIT BEFORE POSTING : 'Bomba' recommended an 8GB RX 470 - that's pointless for 1080p in my opinion and having a Pentium Dual core isn't something anyone would crave. I also have bad experience with Corsair PSUs but I haven't tried the 450W.

Hi, BloatedWComplacency!

First, let me give you some of my background info. I have been a PC gamer ever since I was itty bitty. I have owned and gamed on many consoles and I even currently own a 360. I recently sold my PC which I was using on my home theater. I used it for gaming, random media, Netflix, web surfing, Reddit... you name it. I would destroy my xbox just to have my PC back.

Have you heard of Steam? I mean, if you game on the XBox to be social with your friends or something I can understand your hesitation but steam has a similar function. The PC opens you up to so much more in home entertainment without all of the paywalls offered to you by Micro$oft.

I use Amazon Prime for new movies, Netflix for meh movies, Hulu for some TV, Youtube for movies and videos, plus you get anything you'd normally use like Facebook or Twitter... that stuff.

The system I put together for you is a great entry level computer for gaming, it sounds like you do that primarily. Steam will be your new best friend, especially when the summer sales and special event stuff is going on, check out the humble bundle also. You can use your XBox 360 controllers for the games as well, as long as they're USB. If they're not you can always grab one of these.

I hope I helped out! Message me here or in a PM if you have any other questions or comments :)

CPU - Ryzen is a no-brainer here. Music production is very CPU intensive so a Ryzen CPU with more cores and threads would be the better pick here than an i5. Ryzen CPUs are also fantastic for streaming as they provide a stable average framerate (Intel's are known to have a wide variation between maximum and minimum). It is 5 (-10) % behind Intel in gaming but it is usually not a very noticeable difference and I think it is a worthy compromise for all the benefits you trade for. If you opt for the R5 1600 already you will have 3x as many threads as the 7600, and it looks like you'll need them for all the multitasking you have described.

Therefore I suggest you swap out your $336.00 cpu+mobo combo for:

  • $219 Ryzen 5 1600 (comes with decent stock cooler) and $85 Gigabyte B350 microatx mobo with crossfire support This route will save you ~$35 with which you can invest into another 1TB WD Blue for all your games and music library OR You can pick up a full sized ATX B350 motherboard with crossfire support and no extra hdd

Everything else I agree with, especially the ultrawide monitor which will be invaluable to your multitasking. you will need to pick a mouse and case but that is your own preference. I suggest an S340 elite as a great & affordable option.

edit: changed the motherboard to one that supports crossfire as you have wished

All Amazon, so you can take full advantage of that sweet, fast, free Prime shipping! Other vendors had slightly lower prices but I have the feeling that Hawaii shipping would kill the savings.

Webcam: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008ZVRAQS/?tag=pcgedit-20&ascsubtag=bestwebcam

"Gaming" kb/m combo if you like LEDs, only $5 more: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A7WHWE2

I went slightly overkill on the PSU. It has flawless stability and is fully modular. I feel like a build of this price deserves a top notch PSU, but since you're not overclocking, it's not entirely necessary. You could save $30 by going down to this one, and be fine with no performance impact.

One last thing: The GTX 1070 is coming out on June 10 at $379. It's expected to be more powerful than the 980 Ti (which a $600 card), making it much stronger and a much better value than the 970 I put in the build. It does put you over budget, and supply is likely to be an issue when it launches, so you may end up waiting longer than you'd prefer. I would personally wait, but if you'd like to dig in ASAP, I suggest buying EVGA. They have a step-up program that lets you upgrade within 90 days of purchase, provided you register your product within 15 days. Check it out and think it over!

i noticed you listed your budget in USD but you live in spain... so i went with the USD estimate here. i made a reply down below with some adjusted parts and prices for your region. i hope they're correct but i'm not certain

  • this cpu has very balanced and decent multithread performance and the single thread performance is very good, both of which are used in music production. games tend to favor single thread performance over multi but both hit the right mark here. intel cpu's play along well with hackintosh, unlike ryzen. this cpu includes a fan and paste, unlike something like the 8600k, which makes it a better deal for this build
  • 16GB is enough RAM to work on very large projects in your DAW
  • the rx 570 can play far cry 5 on ultra at 50-70fps for a good example
  • i went with an extra 500GB HDD since you said you have one already and 1TB HDD space is usually good. stuck in a 500GB SSD also. you did say you wanted 2 SSDs for each windows and hackintosh, but you can partition this into 2x 250GB if that works for you.

i couldn't include monitor in the budget nor could i find a decently priced white bezel monitor, but this one is not bad: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-SB220Q-Ultra-Thin-Frame-Monitor/dp/B07CVL2D2S

Ouch, my bad, I meant the i7-7800K!! Sorry to bother, but I still am a tiny bit confused.
>Yes, gaming performance is almost always going to improve. Every generation we get a bump in Instructions Per Cycle or IPC. This means that at the same clock speed, the CPU with the higher IPC will perform better.

>To simplify it here is a simplified 'benchmark'

>i7-2600K @ 4GHz = 500 points
>i7-4790K @ 4GHz = 700 points
>i7-7700K @ 4GHz = 1000 points
>i7-8700K @ 4GHz = 1200 points

>i7-8700K @ 3.5GHz = 1000 points

>i7-8700K @ 4.5GHz = 1400 points

>These numbers are made up, just to help you understand.

So basically the Ghz are faster with each new generation? Like for instance, would the Intel i7-7700K at 4.2GHz run faster than the Intel i7-8700K? Like I know the 8th Gen is faster, but what I am trying to say is the GHz speed is different for each generation? Sorry if that was not clear, I'm trying to write my thoughts down.

Also, this was the website I was looking at to compare the two CPUs.
Link

The main thing I am worried about here is Minecraft, and I know it sounds dumb and stuff, but I've been seeing on other PlanetMinecraft and Reddit forums that it is hard to tell with Minecraft, and you never really know how to tell if it is going to run well or not. My current laptop, a Lenovo YOGA 710-14IKB, can run MC vanilla at a max of about 120fps, which is the highest I have ever seen it go. When I am running on MultiMC with a custom modpack of about 120 mods on the lowest settings, I am lucky to get 40fps. I just really want to make sure that the parts I am looking at will run these games considerably better (To play my heavy games such as Black Flag and PUBG I use Nvidia Geforce Now).

Also, I was browsing around Microcenter yesterday, and I found a couple good looking monitors. I wanted to make sure that they would work with the parts I will get in the future, plus I want to wait for the prices to go down, maybe get a holiday/special event deal or something. This is one in particular I was looking at, I will probably have to go over budget, but monitor is important.
*Dell Gaming Monitor-144Hz, 3ms Response Time, 27" Monitor--$479.99 @Amazon

Let me know what you think. (Also, this is kind of my first post on Reddit, so sorry if the formatting is bad, I was looking at the Markdown chart below.)

Anyway, thanks so much for your help! I've learned a crap ton ever since you started commenting. Thanks!

  • 4590 for $160 is a fantastic deal (all hail MicroCenter). 4 cores will be much appreciated in Photoshop.
  • Cheap, reliable motherboard.
  • 8GB of RAM- typically sufficient, and at this budget 16GB is a bit of a stretch. You can always pop in another 8GB stick in the future if you need more.
  • MX100 is the best price/performance SSD right now, and 256GB is a really nice spot. 128GB is a bit more economical ($60), so if you want you can drop down.
  • WD Blue is the standard 1TB HDD, and is pretty reliable.
  • The 270X will pretty easily handle your gaming needs. You could consider dropping down to a 270, 265, or 260X- look at some benchmarks if you want to drop down.
  • Source 210 is a good case at this price point- solid airflow and decent build quality.
  • Pretty good budget PSU- only 80+ certification, but it's got decent quality. 430W is enough.
  • Well reviewed 1080p monitor, seems to be pretty good.
  • AmazonBasics provides alright peripherals at this price. Can't really fit in a mechanical keyboard/gaming mouse here, so this'll have to do- it's really not bad.

Just a couple, but thanks so far!
To take advantage of the microcenter cpu deal I've been hearing about (pairing it with a mobo) would you recommend any of these over what you have above?:
http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

I also found this ram on sale, seemed pretty similar to me but cheaper. Thoughts?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004CRSM4I/?tag=pcpapi-20

And last but not least the video card. I've seen the Sapphire Radeon XT thrown around a lot here, any reason why the one you've recommended is better? The 2gb is about 60 bucks cheaper and I'm thinking about making some room for a SSD (I know I didn't specify that in the post..), is the current card that much better?

Thanks!

Build Basics:

  • Great gaming performance for the money. 50-60fps at 1080p easy

  • 256GB SDD + 1TB HDD combo (No WD Blue) plextor and hitachi are pretty reliable brands

  • Huge side window on Phanteks TEMPERED GLASS P400. It looks amazing, heres a [video review] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaVmbStgW8E) by HardwareCanucks

Overall, this build is a great deal, but it is $50 overbudget. however, look at it if you were spending $25 for the SSD and $25 for the glass window. Its great!

As for a monitor recommendation, I'll refer you to a techdeals [video] (https://youtu.be/K0ZQUkuO7FU) where he reviews the [Acer - R240HY] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0148NNKTC/?tag=pcpapi-20)

Its an overall great monitor that fits any budget for $120.

However, if you want a piece of the technology that makes games smooth as silk, no stuttering and tearing, than buying a Freesync monitor might be a good option for you!

In that case I'd buy the $180 [ASUS VG245H] (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CMCrxr/asus-vg245h-240-75hz-monitor-vg245h)

Made the right compromises here, without failing to meet your friend's goals.

I think this will do great.

Didn't go with Kabylake, as the base Mobos are still expensive.

This has room to upgrade down the line. You can add more RAM, add some more fans/LEDs, and change the peripherals.

The 144Hz monitor will be great for gaming, and the 3GB 1060 should hit 1080p frames in most new games nicely. Its almost identical in performance to the 970 of the previous generation, at a friendly price tag.

As for a headset, I'd pick up the Logitech G430 if he wants to stick with the blue accents. The mouse and keyboard do this.

I might have missed something, but I don't think that's possible. Which racing game are you thinking about?

Yeah, you could get one monster PC with multiple processors and SLI, but afaik VR does not properly work with that. Multiple GPUs each running their own OS? Maybe possible, but that's too much tinkering, and not guaranteed to work at all. 4 gpus would also be too much for the board, I think.

But $20,000 is a lot of money. Let's say the four seats cost $5000, as with https://rseatamerica.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=67. The displays could cost under $1000, 4x https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF240H-bmjdpr-24-inch-FreeSync/dp/B01DHTWZRQ. For the wheels, Logitech makes good ones, though they are expensive: 4x https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Driving-Racing-Feedback-Steering/dp/B00Z0UWV98, $1500 (edit: Note the alternative recommendations in the comments to this comment, apparently this wheel is not a popular option). Keyboard 4x https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823816015, $300. The headphones, https://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA is an option, $220. Though maybe you want closed ones.

That leaves for the interesting part $12000, for the PCs. And of course that is more than enough to get 4 VR capable gaming PCs:

External Storage has too many options, could be as simple as https://www.amazon.com/Book-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBFJK0060HBK-NESN/dp/B00KU686HI linked to one PC, or a real NAS system. But that would be a topic of its own.

So, given that gigantic budget possible. Practical? Well, on you to judge. You definitely want to double-check everything I wrote, it is not like I (or anyone around her, most probably) has ever created a setup such as this before.

u/tamarockstar · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

You can have the PC somewhat function like a console with Steam Big Picture. The wired Xbox 360 controller is plug and play with Windows, but the wireless needs an adapter. In order to switch from gaming to tv and movies, you would have to use the TV's remote to switch inputs. Steam Big Picture is pretty customizable and you can make Steam default to it when you launch Steam, but I'm not sure if you can set Windows to boot straight into it. I'd bet you can, but I wouldn't know how to do it. You can just get a wireless keyboard with a built in mouse like this one and you can get to steam easily that way. As for the VHS tapes, I would just hook the VCR into one of the inputs on the TV. I can post a build for you later if you want. I'm sure you'll get a couple of suggestions though.

u/eugene2n · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

first of you will need a new gpu I would recommend the 1050ti heres a link

https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-DisplayPort-128-bit-ZT-P10510A-10L/dp/B01MCU1ERO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483387038&sr=1-1&keywords=1050+ti

the 1050ti I linked will fit in pretty much any system and will get you 60fps on most games at 1080p

secondly you'll need an extra stick of ram for 8gb
(wont link this since you need to figure out what ram you are currently using and other the same type)

Your proccessor should be fine however if you want to upgrade your best bet is picking up a used 3570k from ebay since it uses the same socket as your i3 and also a pretty good value nowadays

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=i5+3570k&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xi5+3570.TRS0&_nkw=i5+3570&_sacat=0

Lastly I would buy a ssd which should make programs open faster and your pc experience in general will feel smoother

https://www.amazon.com/250GB-Internal-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B01LXDQX35/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483387611&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=ssd&psc=1

Hey, I'm not the OP, but just wanted to say I went with your build, got everything together this past Friday and am very, very happy. The motherboard was backordered on Amazon so instead I went with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FWVJSHC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only hiccup was the fan on the case panel with the window bumped right into the video card, so I yanked it and relocated to the front of the case.

I haven't built a pc from scratch in 12+ years (been living the MacBook life in grad school), so this was very helpful.

Cheers!

I recommend this headset, as it's cheap and extremely comfortable:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CQ35C1Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought mine almost a year ago and wear it around 10 hours a day most days, and it only hurts towards the end of long computer sessions. The flip side of it being cheap is that it didn't last - around the 9 month mark the sound balance started acting up, and I am going to replace them, but they are cheap enough that if you like them, and comfort is a top priority, they're good value and could be worth replacing.

u/dragoth13 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I like to split the job of Home Theater PC & Media Storage PC into two discrete systems.

This allows you to hide your noisy spinning disks somewhere out of sight, and keep a slim, quiet gaming-capable PC in your living room.

With a $2k budget, you have more than enough to do this from scratch and get a really, really nice system out of it.

Here's what I'd do.

Storage PC:

u/karmapopsicle · 3 pointsr/buildapcforme

Two ways to go. I will actually give you a decent headset recommendation just in case that's the way he wants to go.

Headset

Skullcandy SLYR in fact. Now of course the brand has done a good deal to gain a reputation of flashy products with low quality, but they absolutely upped their game with this one. Great sound quality, and a solid mic.

Headphones and mic.

For the mic, definitely a Blue Microphones Snowball. The Ice version is relatively inexpensive, and awesome for picking up voice for VOIP/games.

For headphones, there's a mountain of options available. Some good options however:

u/Thatisdifficult · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I second the Dell Optiplex.

Here's one for $150. It includes an i5 3550, 8GB of ram, a 500GB HDD, an optical drive, and Windows 10 Pro. A very good deal that will overcome the overpriced ram problem.

Here's a $90 1080p, 60Hz, IPS monitor.

Here's a $225 GTX 1050 Ti (MSRP: $140). All graphics cards above a GT 1030 are overpriced right now.

Here's a $95 Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SSD. You can clone the operating system on the HDD to it.

Here's a $27 blue switch mechanical keyboard. (or if you want a more silent keyboard get this $40 brown switch keyboard).

You may want to replace the power supply. Here's a good one for $50.

It says free delivery in the UK right here. Add it to your original wish list/cart too. Your build looks good so far.

Maybe you could change the Monitor to the one I suggested as it'll be bigger with the 24'' and it has pretty good reviews.

Also, try to look for 1x8GB, not 2x4GB. Your motherboard only has 2 RAM slots, so if you want to upgrade in the future, you'll need to throw out your 2x4GB. If you get 1x8GB there will be no problem. If you do not plan on upgrading any time soon, just go with 2x4GB as RAM usually runs better in Dual Channel.

u/ReachTheSky · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

You're better off finding a used prebuilt and putting a nice GPU in it. Take this Dell Optiplex for example. It comes with a nice CPU, HDD, RAM and already has Windows installed. All you need to put in it is a GPU, like the GTX 1050 Ti and maybe an SSD if it fancies you. Then you have a gaming machine that can play just about everything at medium-high for around $300-350.

I just looked up eBay real quick and clicked on the first thing. You can probably find something similar for a lot cheaper with deeper searching. Also check your local classified listings. Most companies/recyclers are usually eager to get rid of them quickly which gives you negotiating power.

u/TibbTobb · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I think amazon ships to Ireland for free?
But if not you should be able to get something similar from dabs for slightly more money.
Anyway just take this as a general guide and ask again just before you buy as prices change all the time.

When you have €100 spare get this SSD. Well worth the money in my opinion. Or if you can't get that much money together get this 120gb, €60 one. But its worse value for money as the euro per gigabyte is worse.

u/miketheayy · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Absolutely! I'm open-minded on it. But money is a bit tight for me which is why I'm leaning towards turning it down.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CLIZ698/?tag=pcpapi-20
You're positive this case will fit the build? I'm not sure about specifications or anything like that & I'm not sure how to test compatibility either rofl.

>This< is an excellent monitor that isn't super expensive.

For Windows, your just going to have to use the free version of Windows at this budget. Don't worry, basically the only difference is that there's a watermark in the corner of the screen. You can see how to do that here.

The build above has a few imbalanced choices as well as a few overpriced items. The following build fixes those issues:

This build also removes the annoying mail in rebates.

As for the monitor, it only really makes sense to get a 144hz monitor for your main one because a refresh rate that high arguably won't make a difference for regular PC use which generally is the type of thing you use a second monitor for. Save money and get something like this for the second monitor. That does look like a great main gaming monitor though.

PS this is capable of 4 displays through the video card and an additional 2 through the motherboard/cpu.

u/wazero · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

well my friend you just won the golden ticket by living by a micro center. there are so many deals and combinations I can put together for you. here's the first one. get this cpu
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.aspx?sku=804831

with this mother board
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.aspx?sku=804831

this is the ram that is cheapest
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MTSWG30/?tag=pcpapi-20

Here's the psu
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H33SFJU/?tag=pcpapi-20

here's the gpu
https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/5r63tu/gpu_asus_rx_470_strix_oc_edition_11490_16863_pay/

here's a decent budget case

all that parts should cost 550 before taxes and rebates, and that's without a windows key.

but you could also just buy a pre-built and put a 470 in it along with a new psu.

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.aspx?sku=139808

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/5r63tu/gpu_asus_rx_470_strix_oc_edition_11490_16863_pay/

this build is 600 before taxes but that includes the windows key. but if you have to wait to get a windows key you can use windows 10 without a key and just deal with the watermark until you can get one but it;s not even that bad. as long as you play in full screen it won't be there.

u/Not-an-account · 2 pointsr/buildapcforme

Intel NUC perhaps?

http://amzn.com/B00HVKLSVC

Along with the apparently frequently bought together RAM and this SSD, should make for a nice system. It runs TF2 on medium at 30fps though, so it may not be 100% what you're looking for., but it's highly compact.

Otherwise there is the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190, though I can't really find any benchmarks on it's Celeron 1017U.

u/Dylan014able · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

If you can afford it, I'd greatly recommend you spend the extra $30 - $40 and get an extra 8 gb of ram. Also, get a monitor if you can. Even a cheap 1080p one will be better than a tv lol. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-SB220Q-Ultra-Thin-Frame-Monitor/dp/B07CVL2D2S/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=1080p+monitor&qid=1557094474&s=gateway&sr=8-3 This is $90.00

u/Mando_dablord · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Also, I'm not sure if you prefer MSI or not. But Gigabyte has a 450M board for around $70. Figured you can use that to save money or get something better. Maybe get a better GPU or a 3600x.

do you have a recommendation for a motherboard ~$100 with the Z170M and LGA1151 socket?

i'm leaning towards going with the i3-6100 and something like the ASRock Z170M Pro4S using the onboard graphics for now and giving him the option to add a dedicated card as he finds the need.

Yeah, in the bit of research I've been looking at, it looks like this might be a decent deal also?

Also, what about this power supply?

Personally, I don't know much about the motherboards, or really anything besides where the power button is. I'd rather deal with amazon than newegg but there's also a Microcenter close by me, so that's not awful. I am willing to wait until BF if anyone thinks the deals will be worth it.

This cheaper motherboard at $70 (I currently use this one)

Ryzen 1600 should fit her requirements and is $101.

Try using the app OfferUp and search for parts there. May be able to find very cheap used components.

What do you think about this monitor; https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01C05C1OK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521567448&sr=8-1&keywords=acer%2Bpredator%2Bxb1&th=1
Do you think it would go together with the one I have (https://www.amazon.com/24-inch-FreeSync-Monitor-VG245H-Response/dp/B01JGYM5H6) as a secondary monitor? I do really want to experience the 144hz myself, but I don't want to give up the IPS part of my main monitor

sigh. I misread. This is a TN panel, I just thought I found the perfect monitor. The search continues

u/krnlcheese · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I know you said you don't want an AMD card. But for the same price you could get a r9 280 (which outperforms the 760.)

And I would highly advise against the kingston ssd. Kingston was caught doing a bait and switch. You can read about it here. On top of that the v300 is one of the slowest ssds on the market right now. For only $7 more you can get a much better ssd.

u/midnightn0ise · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

There's a 128GB Crucial MX100 for around $60 on amazon. I've heard crucial is a good brand for SSD's. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KFAGD88?me=&ref=olp_product_details

u/Joel05 · 3 pointsr/buildapcforme

Do you know anything about music production/audio? Those speakers are rubbish, and a good amp should be obtained before a soundcard. For almost $90 dollars you could get a pair of K240's or Sony Mdr v6's.

Not to mention this is /r/buildapcforme not /r/suggestaprebuiltforme.

u/NeoProHex · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I would recommend this monitor. I have it and it is incredible, 1080p 60hz IPS 24 inches

u/xMico1236 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

You can also get a Logitech G430, it's way better than the G230. Also only $6 more.

u/NeVe12p4wNeD · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

Oh god, Relay for Reddit vomits on my face with unusable links.

If you're into rebates, I meant this one plus shipping after rebate for $24. Or this 500W for $40.

u/ddog510 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I'm not a huge fan of that ram...get [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-240-Pin-Platforms-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=pd_cp_pc_2) at the same price.

That case is actually on sale on newegg right now with the promo code EMCXRXT55. It would actually be cheaper if you bought the case with the promo code for $40 and the HDD from Amazon for $67 (actually this only saves you $3 ...but what the hey!).

Everything else is still fine.

Regarding Reviews:

  • Motherboard has no reviews because it is technically brand new, but it is just a slightly modified version of the non-max model. It has plenty of reviews on Amazon and on Newegg.
  • Memory is memory, and there's no need to look at reviews. They're all the same as long they have the same specs and come from a well-known brand.
  • Case: has 1000+ reviews on Amazon.
  • If you have any other questions about a specific part let me know.

    Motherboard Compatibility

MSI's MAX series motherboards were specifically released to be compatible with Ryzen 3000 series cpus. PCPartpicker gives you that warning because all it knows is that it is a B450 motherboard, and most B450 motherboards require a BIOS update to be compatible. However, at this point most B450 motherboards have been updated to be compatible with Ryzen 3000. The problem is if you order online instead of going into the store, you don't know if you'll get an older version that hasn't yet been updated. That's why I'm recommending the MAX motherboard which is guaranteed to be compatible.

    Note on Memory

3600mhz CL16 memory is now available at a good price. $85 G. Skill Ripjaws. You should get this instead of the 3400mhz memory in the original build.
